Christmas Double Day

Hi crafters!  Welcome to another double day Christmas post.    This first card is a personal favourite of mine, I have to confess.  I just love the simplicity of this design, remember I told you that it is a "go to" layout for me.  It always help jump start my creative juices.   I started with the white background and stamped snowflakes all over it using a clear perfect medium pad.  I heat embossed them with white powder for a tone on tone look (which can be seen in the close ups below).    I matted it with silver card then went to work on my focal element.  I used the snowflake background and stamped it on white card using a clear perfect medium pad.  I love this background as it has been drawn in negative.  The actual space around the snowflakes is what you are stamping, leaving the snowflakes to show up in whatever colour card you pick.  I heat embossed it with Silver Shine embossing powder.  I covered the entire piece with a sticky self adhesive sheet, then peeled the backing paper off and covered it with Iced Snow.  I trimmed it to size and backed it with a thin white mat.  I mounted it with foam atop my white background.  I stamped the sentiment and cut it into a strip and backed it with a matching silver mat.  I attached it across the card and added a silver messy bow, tulle and a crystal sparkler to complete my focal element.  I finished the card with double white pierced mat layers for a simple but elegant Christmas card.  Finished dimensions are 7" x 8 1/4" in size.

For card number 2, I have done some baubles in stained glass style.  I have to admit that I only had a few Christmas colours of glitter on hand when I made these so I decided on just red and white.  You could easily make them more interesting with the addition of another colour to the mix.  I stamped the baubles on acetate using a black archival ink pad. Acetate is slippery and not the easiest thing to stamp on, but if you use an anti- static pad over it before stamping, it does help.    I let it dry overnight (as my acetate was not heat resistant so I couldn't emboss them!)  From the back side of the acetate, again I used an anti-static pad over the area then I used Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue to fill in the areas that I wanted to use the red polished silk glitter.  I sprinkled it on then tapped off the excess.  I did the same with the white glitter areas then set them aside to dry overnight.  Once dry, I cut them out by hand (I didn't want to risk using the die on them), but I cut a white mat for each one using the dies and glued them together.  The white backing helps to pop out the colour of the glitter used.    I created an embossed background with a glitter edge for my card.  I place double sided sticky tape all the way around the edge of the card, then sprinkled Diamond Sprinkles over it.  Then,  using the Tapestry embossing folder, I embossed the piece.   I arranged the baubles in a cluster and made them look as if they were suspended by pearl swirls.  Using the thin red ribbon, I plaited a strip to create a side border for my card (directions for this are in the tutorial section at the top of the blog under Ribbon Wreath).  I used the wider version of the ribbon to tie a double bow and added it with glue dots.  I finished the bow with a pearl embellishment.  I matted the card with a thin red mat before finishing with my double white pierced mat layers.  You could easily add a small sentiment tag if you like, I decided to leave it simple this time.  Finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Good morning Sue
Two fabulous cards, I love how you've done the background on the first card. I am always reluctant to stamp on acetate but will try using the tips you've given us. The ribbon weaving is such a lovely technique and always looks great. The way you've made the baubles look as if they are hanging from the pearl swirls is so pretty. Thanks for the ideas and tips.

Oh Lordie Lordie Lordie ! Morning Sue and Wilsonettes. Blow me down with a heat gun. I saw the first card and almost choked on my coffee, then scrolled down and then actually choked on my coffee ! Coughing and spluttering then the enevitable happened - coffee down the nose syndrome ! (sorry ladies TMI) no it didnt happen but it could have ! Ive been up since 5am usual aches n pains, and usually clock watch till 6am when I know there will be a treasure or two uploaded, but I left my eyes in the 'little' room where I play (NO not the loo) ! Our 2nd bedroom is little (too small to have to pay for but that's politics for ya) !! Anyway I couldnt focus on my phone keyboard and at the risk of being arrested, decided to wait until Mr Lancashire rose from his pit so I didnt wake him shuffling around from room to room ! Jeez the waffling has started, cant stop myself ! So, the treasure's above - what can I say ? Certainly 2.W.O.W cards yet again - these Wonders Of Wilson stop me in my tracks, well they would if I was walking round looking at them, but I'd probably bump into something so always a safe bet to sit and browse. The first card is beautiful in a quiet, simple way and I bet when the light catches it, it lights up a room, the sparkle would be magnificent. The second 'treasure' shouts BOO at you as you scroll down ! Its fantastic, imagin opening THAT after a bunch of boring, yawnable shop bought poop we get from certain people, you'd fall to the floor ! But come on Sue, this is ME you are trying to tutor - acitate slides, guilding flakes laugh and attack me, and you show me a plaited ribbon !.I remember watching you demo that ribbon plait, and said out loud " I couldn't do THAT Sue, Im too dozy for one thing to follow instructions, my brain doesn't co-operate with my eyes and hands, all 3 want to do their own thing ! But the biggest issue (apart from fighting with my brain) is I cant feel my two index finger tips, Some crazy disease hit me years ago and took a lot of skin from those to fingers so now the skin is numb lol that turned to Raynauds which isnt great when you want to craft, its SO severe I have to stay indoors now until Spring, one good thing is that I have no finger print on those two fingers - so Id be great in that bank job I mentioned a few days ago lol
Yep I get craft shop withdraw symptoms, but Im so lucky that Mr Lancashire goes craft shopping if I need glue or card, bless him : )
Still waffling - anywsy Im going to try and adapt the BOO card, and if anyone hear's a scream the acitate moved !
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving Sue.
Have a great day lady friends. Stay warm and happy.
Hugs.
Lancashire Steph xxxx

Good morning Sue,
The "Let it Snow" card i think its a blizzard that's came instead of just snow. The 2nd card is my favourite i must admit because the red touch in the mat and the ribbon edged with the touch of black against the white looks just beautiful. The Christmas baubles are so lovely and the card edged with the crystalised snow around the edge just finishes it off a treat. Of course we now know how you achieved the stunning effect around the card and it just makes it pop.

Just had a wonderful, laughable, video vision of me, wrapped up in extra strong double sided tape, you all know the one, the one where the red tape follows you round the house no matter how much you've flicked your fingers into the bin, wiped it off your fingers with a wetwipe ! Mummyfied in ribbon and covered in guilding flakes ! Mr Lancashire knows just rooms Ive visited during my crafting days as there are bits of red tape, glitter AND guilding flakes !!! But believe ME when I say Im going to dare myself to do your Ribbon flower tutorial first, then if I can still move enough Im going to play with the plaite, oh what a laugh THAT should be ladies : )

The second card looks fabulous with its red and white glittery baubles !! I just love it. I have the round baubles die set and have just received my Sue Wilson stamps to die for round christmas beaded flourish and snowflake set !! So I will be making this one !! I love the plaited ribbon but it is to complicated to make with my brain.

Morning Sue,
"WOW OH WOW" They are both fantastic Cards in there own right I wouldn't be able to choose between them, they both offer so much! If someone sent any like this to me I'd keep it up all year long! And more.
I truly loved the first as I thought the Background was Awesome with using your, stamp I love the Tone on Tone effect, using the Fabulous Snowflake Stamp Heat Embossing in white, mat onto Silver then here comes the Awesome next part, using the Snowflake Stamp once more Heat Embossing in Silver this time then place onto a sticky sheet, then add the "Wonderful Iced Snow", Messy Bow, I Love the Texture in this Card and the Beautiful Sentiment!
If that wasn't enough we have been treated to Card number Two once again Fabulous Background, I have never tried any like this with Acetate but what a outcome, I don't think for one minute mine would turn out quite like yours but I'm not the fabulous Sue Wilson, I love the Stained Glass look on the Baubles and at least the Bauble you chose is simple enough to cut out by hand, the Awesome Ribbon Plaited Strip I've never tried, I just love that Ribbon I purchased from Sam's on-line shop and how you've added the Pearls coming down to meet the Baubles as if there meant to do so, what trulyFantastic, Opulent Cards, Love from Sam x

Ok, two cards, the first is definitely my favourite, the simplistic style but rich at the same time, I also like the tone on tone look, the second card is equally beautiful but just doesn't "do it" for me,I think its the shape of the baubles, although the ribbon is gorgeous, and I'm not usually a big ribbon fan, this is by no means a criticism, its purely personal taste and if I were to receive one just like it I would treasure it because it was made for me x

Hi Sue

Just got in from helping my daughter and her fiance move into the 1st home they have bought together.( their faces when we left were so happy). I hope it's not because we had just left.

I just had to come home and look at your Friday double take. They are stunning, I love he glitter on the first one and what a stunning ribbon effect on card 2. they are both beautiful.

Lancashire Steph, you are like a Jackanory interlude. Tomorrow I am going to make a cup of tea and take time out to enjoy your story (blog).

Kind regards Sue. :-)
