Just A Note

Good Sunday morning all!  I have a clean and simple designed card to share with you today.  I started with a piece of clear acetate and used Pixie Powders on it instead of alcohol inks to do the Caught in Crystal technique.  I like this fun twist on the technique.  You need to add some Cosmic Lacquer onto the acetate and spread it around with your finger to cover the piece.  Next I tapped Red Lava and Straw Yellow Pixie Powders all over it.  I used my finger to mix the powder into the lacquer a bit.  I covered it with apiece of scrunched up white tissue paper and used a piece of kitchen roll to tamp it down.  You set it aside to dry overnight then cut it to the size needed when dry.  I cut one of the Linear Leaf Backgrounds, leaving a wide frame around it and glued it into place over the pixie powder piece.  I ran strips of double sided tape around the edge, then sprinkles Frosted Sparkle Glitterbitz over it.  I made a very thin frame using the Double Stitched Rectangle die set and added it with mounting foam to raise it for dimension.  The card was completed with white on white mats.  The finished dimensions are 5 3/4" x  7" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Hello Sue. I love love love seeing your samples made with this die,and all the backgrounds behind. It lends itself to either be 'dressed up' a little more of you so wish or just leave it be as if there is one design of card I really love is a CAS design, they are fresh and classie but so beautiful at the same time, unfortunately I've not got this background die but I really enjoy and love seeing the similar samples that get posted on Paul's fb page. Lisa gave us some wonderful ways to use your dies over the past day and a bit. Don't know where I've been but my keeper bought the Paper Cuts dies to my attention yesterday, the paper cuts haven't been my favourites so never added them to my stock of CE goodies, but when the two dies were pointed out to me I was really surprised, not only that I'd totally missed them, but it took Andy to rewind and point out to me that they were NOT paper cuts like I was trying to explain lol but actual cutting dies (I was actually putting the collar on the dog so only saw the die cut) after lisa had cut it so thats my excuse lol. Everyone must have loved them as they sold out then the extra stock sold out too lol guess I'll have to add them to the list - which is supposed to be closed this year 😢 I'll sneak them on somehow lol.
Sending Sunday hugs to you Sue xx

Morning Sue.
Thank you, a great technique with the acetate.
Take care and have fun Kitty.

Or, quicker, how about some red, orange, and gold gilding polishes, applied randomly, for the background color?

Has anyone seen this in person and would be able to attest that Sue's acetate crystal background is worth the effort and expense?

I spent some quality hours this weekend cutting Poppy, Sophie, Bella, and Heather in white. Quite possibly, my Frames and Tags category needs a box of its own.

As enthralling as the January launch was, it's nice to get back to regular life on the blog.

Enjoy your Sunday!
Best,
Donita

Hi Sue,

Lovely bold statement card and would be so quick and easy to make up once the background had dried, perfect for man cards!

Donita - you could always substitute "dries clear" PVA glue instead of lacquer for your first experiment, the finished result would be very similar - although when using acetate both glue and lacquer (like oil) would go a long way as acetate is non-absorbent so not too costly in terms of how much you'd use to get a good coverage...hth

Hi Sue, love this elegant CAS card and the Linear Leaves are shown off beautifully by your pixied background. Love the colours and the sparkly border.

Myra, Crewe Trish and Sam - thank you for reminding me about the Lift Your Spirits set. I had totally forgotten about the sentiment, just remembering the beautiful balloons.
Pauline in SA - CAS is our lazy way of saying Clean & Simple :-)
PP - admit it, you overdid it didn't you. Glad you are on the up again but what have you done with your sparring partner she has been AWOL for ages.

A complete change in the weather today, instead of yesterday's gloom it is bright and sunny and I hope that the sun is shining on everyone.

Lovely card and the technique could go with many other background dies.
Donita, I have not tried the Pixie Powders as yet but I will tell you that the "Caught in Crystal" technique using alcohol inks is well worth trying & Sue's instructions are excellent. I used transparency sheets (had a box), and Ranger Glossy Accents which you probably have. I did add some mica powder lightly sprinkled over. Tissue paper from a gift, easy & cheap. You really do not use a lot of the products. I did not even use up my partial bottle of Glossy Accents although I had purchased another in case needed. I did several color combos (full sheets)...a blue/purple, an orange/red, and a green/gold mix. I did not get messy and it goes fast. Left over night to dry and you can cut it too. It really is gorgeous and a real WOW factor. The orange/red looked fantastic behind the bonsai stained glass die. Try it.
Also, like someone said , you can use glue. Julia spritzes the pixies on the glue. Sue didn't say to with the lacquer. Another tip via Julia...she puts her finger in a baggy when she spreads.
Sorry to be so wordy.
Everybody, have a great day,
Stephanie K
