Faux Rusted Background Card

Hi bloggers!  Today's video shows you how to get a little messy and create a faux rust background, it is ever so easy to do!  You just need to let your inner grunge out a bit! LOL

The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Morning Sue. Oh so different to way back when, to the early years when I found you and your lovely inspirational blog. I'm not a grungy type gal more CAS but I think I see why people enjoy this style. Sorry that this is a long post but must share with you and anyone else that reads all the days comments. So who has joined me in being a shop card critic lol ? I had the most beautiful sweet card from my keeper yesterday, a delicate shaker card with a really meaningful sentiment within the shaker heart (so I'm told) how many of you receive a lovely shop card but the first thing that jumps out at you is wonky ribbon or wonky mats etc well the first thing I noticed wasn't the sentiment it was all the delicate sequins, tiny jewels all stuck to the acitate ! After kissing and thanking him for another beautiful card, I then went into the reason why it has happened as he was really disappointed I couldn't see how meaningful it really was. We ended up laughing about it as apparently we are too critical and as card makers difficult to buy for as it takes longer to find the 'perfect' shop card without any booboo's and 'wonks' so there you are, although we are very grateful for the cards we receive the buyer gets cold feet and we're too critical lol anyway, I hope a pleasant Valentine's was had by you without a 'wonky' card or a shaker card that you could read.
Sending love and hugs to you for a happy fun day xxx

Marion - I bought the Ransom Note Happy Birthday too - it's my most used die at the moment, it's so versatile and doesn't have to look grungy does it - it all depends on what card you use and what you do to the diecut afterwards....love it to bits!

Good Morning Sue. I love this. I have just watched the video and Ohhhh you made it look so very very easy. I need those colours though. I only recently started to invest in these oxide inks so I have been buying 1 each time I go in our craft shop. I am definitely going to try this. Does any one know where you can buy a mat that Sue is using to apply the inks so she doesn't mess anything up please? I would appreciate if someone could let me know.
My lovely new winning die arrived yesterday Thankyou so much Sue. It's my Lovely Sisters birthday next week so I am saving it for her card.
Has anyone heard from Pam or Elaine and Helen.... am hoping all is well with them. Sending best wishes to everyone and keep warm..... although it's a sunny morning here.... it's still freezing outside

Good morning Sue
There were some techniques today I haven't done in such a long time, I love grunge style but haven't tried it with oxide ink (don't own any yet) but the more I see cards made with the oxide ink the more I want them. The copper micro beads are a must and look fabulous in the centre of flowers, but also look great as accents! Just got off night shift so off to bed.

Hello Sue,
Have been under the weather and missing!
Today’s card is not a “ me card” but I can admire all the effort which went into it.
Ann ( Toppcards) Leeds - you need a non stick, heat resistant craft sheet! They are brilliant and last for years. I know Julia Watts has them available in her Craft Shop - I checked! Hers is a CE one. Hope this helps you.
Agree about bought cards! People spend a fortune sometimes on something that we could do and do better in ten minutes! They then put handmade on the back! By whom I often wonder!
Love to all, Myra ( Friend of Maureen! ) xx

Hi Sue, just because I don't do grunge myself does not mean that I can't admire it when others do and this card is a particularly lovely example. With your Industrial Chic collection I think that Chic is the operative word and that some of the dies could be used on a more everyday style card - you always give us so much versatility. I enjoyed the video, it is always a pleasure to see you work your magic

Laine - I hope things went better for you today.

Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

This is simply divine, i LOVE grunge cards because they absolutely take you out of that precise, controlled and perfectly placed comfort zone that we all usually habitate. I am aching to try this technique but don’t have the tools ie your industrial chic dies or the oxide inks so I will have to make do with admiring from afar until i can invest in them....it goes without saying that i am thrilled to bits that you have created a video demo of your techniques, i will so enjoy watching it when my eyes aren’t cross eyed with tiredness:-)
Well, today managed to go to plan, i made the executive decision that 7am was early enough to get up for the transport, had a bath etc and was dressed and ready by 8am....good job really because the ambulance was actually over two hours early arriving at 8.30am! Was taken for my MRI early as a result but the process from start to finish took nearly 2 hours....i had to spend 45mins in the scanner which went past surprisingly quickly. Unfortunately my ambulance driver turned up 29 mins before i was ready and promptly left me behind:-( Luckily for me they managed to get another one for me in less than an hour which must be a record for the ambulance service:-) Feeling tired and drained tonight unsurprisingly so i hope for an early night....that however is, as always, in the hands of Darcey and Brodie!
Bejay, more details about your kitten please, is it a boy or a girl, name, colouring and most importantly, is it alright after its little operation?
Myra, sorry to hear that you have the lurgy, do hope that you feel better soon honey because we miss your joyful presence...and no, i;m not being in the least bit sarcastic:-) How are Maureen and Saba? Will they be returning to the blog anytime soon? I hope so, they are missed.
Carmen, thanks for your well wishes, much appreciated, as are all the comments by you lovely ladies, its such a caring blog:-) Are you still troubled with bad weather in Toronto? It must be such a long hard winter for you:-(
Huge hugs to all my besties, missing and present, as well as consoling cuddles to anyone who needs themxxx

Love and crafty hugs

A late comment, I forgot to check in yesterday.

Grunge has never been my scene but seeing Julia and Lisa use it I am slowly being converted and this great contribution to my education is furthering my appreciation. I have come to the conclusion that it is not so much not liking it, but not having the confidence to play around to achieve something grungy but attractive.

I am in the process of sorting out prior to down-sizing and have some net curtains I was going to give away to an embroiderer friend but seeing your use of cloth, I might have to cut some up and keep it. Oh dear, and my craft room is going to be a nightmare enough to pack up without adding to it!!!

Good morning Sue and all Wilsonettes.
This is a beautiful and unusual card and you have made it look so easy on your video.
I get messy very easily, especially with the spray glue. I wonder that you don't stick your fingers together as I do. Not long ago I stuck the shoes I was wearing to the craft-room carpet even though I thought I was spraying into a cardboard box. I live alone so I said "Oh Dear" (or words to that effect) out loud.
Thank you again Sue for my beautiful Bella.
Love to all.

Fabulous card. I didn't think industrial chic was my style until I saw your super dies. My first attempt for a Christmas Birthday went down a storm. I used the industrial chic corners with pixie powdered brown card (I don't have oxide inks) and it was really effective.

Take care everyone.
