Happy Birthday

Good Sunday morning all!  I started with a piece of black card and applied Cosmic Shimmer Crackle Glaze across the card with a wide flat brush to just cover the entire card.  Once completely dry, I applied Warm White Matt Chalk Paint and Chocolate Gold Metallic Lustre paint to card in about a ¾ to ¼ ratio.  I painted it on but allowed the paint to leave a bit of a striped look to have gold coloured veins show through then allow to dry naturally or use the heat tool across it (moving continuously so it does not scorch or bubble the background). I cut the Vineyard Frame out of milk card and used Cosmic Shimmer Chalk Cloud inks and small smoothies to colour the wine frame.  I used the Sweet Violet and Gentle Lavender for the grapes and wine bottles, the Sweet Apple and Subtle Sage for the leaves, Cozy Clay, Misty Grey, Toasted Rose and Terra Cotta for the wine barrel and vines.  I distressed the leaves and edges slightly with Vintage Photo Distress ink.   I used a small bit of Enchanted Gold Gilding Polish on my finger and rubbed the design lightly for a soft distressed shimmer.  I cut the backing to the frame then glued them together and poked my scissors through the centre and cut out the interior of the frame.  I added mounting foam to the back and attached it to the crackle background piece (use glue on your foam for extra adhesion.) I cut the Happy Birthday mini expression twice, once in milk and once in black and used it for a shadow before gluing the sentiment in the centre of the frame.  Milk mats and layers completed the card.   The finished dimensions are 6” x  7 ¼” in size.  All for now, Sue x

I like how the crackle looks like bark. I also like the happy birthday and its shadow. And I like that you tell the colors you picked. Otherwise, I think this card could be used as a cry for help in quitting drinking. It’s just so dark, like there is no hope left in life.

One thing that recently restored my will to live was receiving the die set you so graciously let me win from the October release. Thank you again. And whoever addressed it wrote in beautiful calligraphy that nearly covered the whole mailer front. It was wonderful to get in the mail!

Thank you again!

Donita

Hello Sue and all
One of my favourite die sets, I have used it so often for my friends who enjoys drink or two lol ! I really like the background, though I do find the whole card a bit dark, just personal taste, it is a really good set for those pesky male cards too.
Hugs

Hi Sue. Loving the clever background but I'm on the same page as Muriel I'm afraid, it's the overall depth of colour, a little too dark, if certain pieces of the beautiful frame had been highlighted with lighter colours like the grapes it would have lifted it just a touch more, although saying that, one photo looks like it has more light shining onto it which gives a completely different look.
Collecting all my snow globe videos so I can touch up my technique as I didn't have it last year, only problem I have is that I only have small treat cups !! Oh well, will have to go without my jar of coffee fir this week. Have a great day Sue and thanks for today's inspiration xxx

Morning Sue,
Having visited numerous wine estates and cellars here, today's card is a great reminder for us. The dark, mysterious coolness as been captured beautifully on your sample card.
I love the effect of the crackle glaze for your background.
A really lovely card. Enjoy the rest of your day. Cheers!!

Hi Sue
Oh wow - brilliant card. Love the crackle background and am in awe of your colouring skills using smoothies. I don’t think mine would look anything like that if I attempted your technique.
I have this die and it is such a good one. I have so many friends who like the odd glass of wine (actually it’s usually more then one).
Happy Sunday everyone.

Hello Sue, lots going on this card with cradle background, colours and dies. I do think you have captured the old dark cellar feel with matured cask depths of colours. Xx

Hi Sue, a beautiful card. It has a very rustic French vineyard look to it. Great for anyone who loves their wine.

Fluffycat said...

Hi Sue, not one of my favourites I'm sorry to say. I much preferred the card you made previously where you had snipped the frame apart and used much lighter colours. I do however appreciate all the techniques you have used. The last time you made 'wood' I tried to get the crackle glaze and white matt chalk paint but everywhere was sold out so now you have reminded me I will have to try again.

The gold added to your crackle bark background brings a lovely warm look. Your card design today reminded me of a fond Califorinia wine and tasting tour I shared with my late husband. Thanks for sharing.
