Double Family Tree Sunday

Good Sunday morning all!  I thought I would not only give you a double day, but one that relates to the shows I'm doing on Hochanda all day today as well!  I am showcasing the Family Tree die set which also happens to be one of the sets available on the One Day Special.  For the first card, I used the Linear Elegance Edger to create a background.  I cut it twice into each side using just the decorative die and turning them so each side was facing each other.  You get such a pretty design that way.  I left a bit of a wide border around the card and added a piece of self adhesive sticky sheet to the back.  Next, I glittered the exposed adhesive on the front with Diamond Sprinkles and added a white backing piece behind.  For the focal element, I cut the Family Tree in black three times.  I used the Bora Bora outline die and inner cutting dies and cut white solid pieces with them.  Before removing them from the dies, I inked each of them with several shades of Colour Cloud inks (Lemon Meringue, Baked Peach and Chic Moss.  I added mounting foam to the backs of each of them to raise them.  I glued the Family tree to the largest one first, then attached the next solid die cut.  I added the next tree to it, lining it up with the one underneath and gluing it in place,  I used my scissors to cut away all of the over hanging areas.  I attached the smallest die cut then aligned the last tree onto it and glued it into place, then cut away all of the extra tree from it as well.  The result is a tree that appears to be growing from one die cut to the next and then the last one.  I completed the card with a white on white mat with piercing.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  7" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two is a great one if you need a special card in a hurry!  I started with a piece of coconut white card and inked it with Colour Cloud inks.  I used Scarlet Woman, Chic Moss, Baked Peach and Lemon Meringue.  I used Decadent Oak around the edges to soften the colour and frame it.  I cut the Family Tree die in the centre and then just used the aperture.  I added a piece of acetate across the back of the aperture, which keeps you from having to add mounting foam to ever little space around the leaves.  I added mounting foam around the back edges and the head of the tree to raise it.  I added this piece to another piece of coconut white card .  I cut the sentiment from the Retail Therapy die set a few times out of white card and stacked it, then glued it below the card.  I completed the card with a simple white on white mat.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  8" in size.

Sunday smiles to you Sue. Those samples on last night's show were absolutely gorgeous, I watched the repeat at 5 this morning (the usual time the dog likes to get up) !! And as usual your inspiration is also kept safe in the little black craft box lol I look forward to watching what I can and catching up with those I have to record whilst out having lunch with Lottie, mummy and daddy, so all in all a good day ahead. The Family Tree die is as you said "so versatile" it's so wonderful to see all the different backgrounds beneath it showing through, plus all the other amazing things I can't wait to see you do with it, I'm really hoping it will be part of either my birthday or Christmas die bundle I'm so lucky to have at this time of year. So while I'm waiting for my two to return from the park I'll congratulate the 3 winners listed above, enjoy your gift ladies, and end my post with my usual hug. Have an enjoyable day in the studio and a safe drive home xxx

Hi Sue,
wow, the first card had me guessing BIG TIME how you'd done it. It's ingenious - that's all I can say. And of course, absolutely stunning.
The second card is also beautiful and, as you say, quick to do. Something we all need at one time or other. Also, I have some friends for whom this would be more than enough - they "don't like fussines and ornateness etc".
Are you demoing the first post? It's something I hadn't seen done before EVER..........
Hugs, Rose

Hi Sue, two great cards making full use of the Family Tree die. I like them both but I think the first one gets more of my attention as it reminds me of your 3-layer stamping technique. I enjoy making the stamped version so will have to try the die version - not with this tree as I don't have it, but I'm sure I will find an alternative in amongst your other dies that I do have.

I managed to watch your 9am and 12 noon shows, both excellent, and am hoping to get to 4pm on time :)
