Gilded Ivy

Hi bloggers! You may have seen me do this card as a demo on my last shows, but if you didn't, here it is on today's video episode for you to enjoy.  This is a great way to transform ordinary card into something that looks like metal and it is so simple to do.

Buy from Joanna Sheen

The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  7 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Morning Sue. WOW WOW WOW I love everything about this card. I watched the video last week and had a go at making this card. It's stunning when it's finished. The acetate and luna flakes work beautifully together and then to make the dazzler with the luna flake's as well just finishe's the card off and tie's it all together. Could be used for many occasion's and a very good male card. I just wish i had half of your imagination and a little bit of your creativeness. A BIG thank you for your video with all your great hint's and tip's.
Have a great week everyone and take care.

Good Morning Sue,
I remember seeing this on create and craft, and taped the show. I had a go at my own version as I didn't have the colours of the flakes, it's amazing just how they come out using the double sided tape on acetate, I don't know how you can be so tidy with the flakes I always get mine everywhere lol.
I've spent a lot of time recently looking at your old video tutorials (whiles away the hours while I'm off work with a bad back thanks goodness for the iPad I can just rewind the videos and keep trying until I get my card looking slightly decent.) thanks Sue for all your ideas.
Can't wait to see what is for tomorrow

Morning Sue
What a beautiful way to start the day coffee with Sue Wilson in her wonderful craft room and a fantastic piece of art to boot.

Although today's gift is a little on the dark side for me I fully appreciate the format and techniques for today.
I love the idea of aging the die cuts and must have a go at this.

Sue I do have a question though about gilding wax. I have a few jars of the wax and because I haven't used them they seem to have hardened although the tops are on tight. How do I revive them? Anyone any ideas please.

Pam may I ask How Robbie is doing. It seems an age since we had a last update. I hope you don't mind me asking.

Well the weather looks as though it really cannot make its mind up this morning. At the moment we have a little sun, rain, wind and very black clouds.

To all in pain and suffering I hope your day gets better. To everyone please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Hi Sue,
This does really look like metal! I can remember you doing this on C and C. For my tastes though, I think it is a bit " heavy". I would prefer it in white on white or with a bit of green or gold. I do love the layout though and it is one that I would try to replicate.
Thank you to Frances and Wheely for your kind thoughts yesterday.

It is so nice to see a card that can be used for a male. This card ticks all the boxes and I love the effect of the gilding on the ivy.

Wheely Bad said...

Hi Janet

Creative Expressions do a guilding wax solution. Its alcohol based I think. You just drip a few drops onto the surface of the wax, do up the lid and leave it to soak over night. I have heard of some people heating the wax with a heat gun but I don't know if this works as I haven't tried it. The gilding wax solution is not expensive and you can do some cool techniques with it- painting with the guilding waxes and making some messy backgrounds. A little goes a really long way too. Hope that helps x

Hi Sue

I love, love, loved this card when I saw you demo it. I am a bit of a gilding wax junkie as it's ending up on pretty much every card I do, but despite having half a dozen colours I've yet to pick up gold and silver! In desperation of needing gold a few months ago I tried a gold oil pastel! Not quite the same especially as I had to use a fixative on it afterwards! Silly me, I shall be righting this glaring omission to my crafty stash by searching every online shop I use that sells CE products. Going for some mica flakes too, as have promised myself some for a long time. Got to make a card for a week tomorrow so I'm going to cut the mats today, cut the dies tomorrow etc as I'm still pretty tired. That way I get the card made without messing myself up. Talk about lasting enjoyment - a card that'll take a week to make.

Alison (mecca), hugs x

I could quite happily have a nap now. Time to set the alarm so I don't sleep all afternoon, even with them tearing the road outside up, time now to cuddle up with Billy an relax for an hour as I'm struggling to keep my eyes open! Need to be 100% awake for gilding wax & mica flake hunt as online shopping when tired is never good.

Hugs and wishes of happy crafting to everyone, extra hugs here for anyone that needs them. Billy sending wags and woofs too,

T x

Thank you for your video demonstrating the techniques you used on this lovely card. I have yet to try using Mica Flakes and the Gilding Wax. You make it look so simple! I have the gilding wax, but will have to find a source for the mica flakes. Great idea to place the mica flaked side on the acetate face down to keep the mica from flaking off. The gilding wax certainly makes that black debossed piece look like aged metal. Good job!

Hi Sue, a stunning card that anyone would think had taken hours to make. I love the look of the mica flakes and like Wheely above, I will have to go in search of some.

That card looks so gorgeous and I love the gold gilding wax on black.
Also what a fab idea with the dazzler setting I would never have thought of that in a million years.

Hi Sue,
I'm late tonight! For some reason I couldn't leave a comment earlier or even Pin the card! In the end I saved it and Pinned it that way! I was quite proud of my little self! However as the saying goes - pride comes before a fall - so I'll watch my step!
Love the card and the video! Great to see it clearly and close up. It is beautiful and I will be trying this out. Many many thanks,
Love Myra xxx

Hi Sue. Ooooh what a fab video and what a gorgeous card today !! It really does look like metal !! Your video is so easy to follow and I love the techniques you have demonstrated. I love the idea of the mica flakes on the acetate. The Greek embossed Dies look really fab using the black card with the enchanted gold guilding wax. It has created such a great look, especially when accompanied by the black and gold ivy borders to !! Also I love your finishing touch of the metal bezzel (I hope I have got that right !!) Using the same guilding flakes again to match the background and tie the card together. It is very pretty and such a lovely look. Thank you for a great video today Sue and a gorgeous card using some clever techniques!! Sending lots of love to you Sue love from Tres x x x

Lots of love to everyone on Sues fab blog today love from Tres x x x

Hi, Sue and fellow Wilsonettes, hope you've all had a good day, despite the cold, hail, rain, etc.

I 'm going to catch up with the video now, while I enjoy a nice hot soak in the bath. I've been out for several hours this afternoon and early evening.
My youngest son phoned me at 2.30pm to see what I was doing as Kelly's waters had broken. He told me I'd better be quick !!! Baby Osian James Wade was born at home at 4.40pm, weighing in at 8 lb 10.5 oz :-) :-) :-) His older brother Thomas is thrilled. Mother and baby are doing brilliantly !!

I really liked this card when I saw it on your shows,
Sue. Sheena Douglass also does something similar with black card and guilding wax.

Hugs and Best Wishes to you all,

A beaming Angela, in S. Wales Xx

Beautiful card, great video. I don't use black on my cards except when I use gilding wax. I love the metallic look it gives. The first gilding waxes I bought seemed a lot harder than my more recent purchases, which are much easier to use. Blending solution does help on the older ones though.
Congratulations Angela on the arrival of your new grandson.
Take care everyone.

Hi Sue
I made a version of this card... different size from yours and it turned out a little dark, but I love it nonetheless.

Please keep your inspirational posts and videos coming. I eagerly await each one.
