Sew What's New?

Good Sunday morning all!  I was going for a vintage sort of sewing themed card with this one.  I started with a piece of black card.  I used an old  hexagonal design stamp to add some watermark detail to the background by inking it with  a Clear Perfect Medium pad.  I dug through my stash and found some old vintage looking newspaper printed paper to use (sorry, I don't know what company it was from)  I used the Double Stitched Rectangles to cut a base for the sewing machine which is a die in the Sewing Accessories die set.  I added some heart buttons in the corner.  I wrapped some jute twine around the card and attached my sentiment over the top on another small piece of the same backing paper.  I used the pinking square die from the set to cut several swatches from some decorative papers.  I cut several of the spool dies and wrapped them with twine and black and white Bakers Twine and added them to the corner with a button die cut.  I used milk card and black card to mat and layer the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8 1/4" in size.

Hi Sue. Clever, very clever. I've never been a sewer, I tried but always found pattern instructions too complicated, although under the wonderful instruction of my lovely late MIL I did manage to create a couple of summer dresses for our daughter when she was a baby but nothing to be proud of lol. I really admire those that have the talent to make the most beautiful quilts to hand down as heirlooms or even just hem neatly, I'm a 'bodger' which is why I have to leave it to the professional's. Can you imagin the smile on the face of someone who loves sewing as much as we love card making when they receive a card literally made for them they'd be ecstatic and that's what you enable us to do, you know the hobbies people enjoy, the things people emerse themselves in to help lift the pressure of loneliness or illness, then create the tools that make us happy to use, so we can emerse ourselves to help others have a great day or lift spirits, so for anyone who may sew for work or pleasure, this collection of dies will make the perfect card for them whether male or female, it's made to measure. Hope someone makes your day equally as happy xxx

Hello Sue,

FABULOUS! I think that says it all. What a delightful for card for someone who likes sewing or quilting. I don't think there is a detail you have missed. The black for the sewing machine makes it look like a very old, even antique Singer sewing machine. I love the twine and the baker's twine that you have wrapped around the spools and around the card and the buttons look real. So creative and clever as only you can do. Fantastic.

I know you are at "Creativation" and I am sure there are many people there who are inspired by your work.

Have a wonderful time.

Beverly

Good Morning Sue. I love this card. It could have been made for me. I was a tailoress all my working life. From leaving school I was what is called a run around.... that was having to run and get things that were missing from the bundles of work for experienced hands. Every one who left school and went into tailoring had to do this job before they were trained on a sewing machine. Ahhh those were the days. It's all gone now.... there are no factorys left any more. No more young dressmakers..... it's a dying trade now.
But you have just brought so many memories back for me with this beautiful sample. Thankyou so much Sue. Sending best wishes to everyone. Kind regards Ann Toppcards Leeds.

Hi Sue
This is such a fantastic card. So clever.
Sewing has never been ‘my thing’ but I know quite a few people who are a dab hand with a needle and thread. Give them a sewing machine and they could conquer the world!
Had a sneak peak at your new dies - amazing as always. Can’t wait to see you work your magic x

Good morning Sue.
What a fantastic card that I'm sure you enjoyed designing. I don't think you missed anything out.
My Mother was a dressmaker and my childhood was filled with all things 'sewing'
I actually didn't enjoy sewing because Mum was a perfectionist and I always had to keep taking back everything I had done. What memories you have brought to mind Sue. I love this card but would not attempt it in case I had to keep trying again. How odd is that eh? During the second World War I remember my Mum staying up all night making a Bride's dress out of a bed-sheet because the groom was being sent to war in a few days time.
So sorry for rambling on.
Love.

Well Sue, you've certainly created lots of memories for everyone today. So many tales of a bygone time when family and friends used to see. My dad taught me how to use the singer treadle machine we had at home. He also taught me how to cut out patterns. As an engineer it was so easy for him. Anyway back to your card. It's a wonderful card using so many different bits and pieces, ideal for anyone who enjoys sewing. Thank you for the memories from everyone today and for your inspiration too Sue xx

Morning Sue, truly brilliant. I got back into sewing last year having not done much for several years, andd as I've lost quite a lot of weight and it was costing a fortune for a new wardrobe.
My sisters would love this card too. I have the dies, but haven't used them yet. However, this has definitely spurred me on to get at least one card done for an upcoming birthday.
You've definitely got us all reminiscing this morning. Thank you. Hugs xx Pauline in S.A.
