Winter Scene

Hi there my crafty friends!  I am sharing one of my favourite cards using the Forest Animals today.  I cut the Birch Tree Background out of a leftover piece of card that I have crackled using the CE Crackle Glaze and matte paints.  I just loved how the birch trees looked when cut from it so I used it as the basis for my card.  I created an evening background for it  simply by selecting a piece of cobalt card and using a Smoothie with White Cloud ink on it to create a moon glow in the background and added some darker black soot ink above it.  I attached the birch over it and cut a double oval aperture (two pieces of card with different sized ovals) to frame it out of coconut white card.  To the front of the card, I added some trees glittered with Iced Snow, the log, the male deer and two Snowflake corners all cut from white card.  I cut the mother and baby deer in white and put them in the framed forest.  White on white mats and layers were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  8 1/4" in size.  I hope you like it as much as I do!  All for now, Sue x

Beautiful card Sue, lovely. Love the deer in the trees.
Rosemary, so sorry that your friends seem to have deserted you when you need them, I think people are scared of what they don't understand so stick their heads in the sand. Pkease fight against the depression, try to comment, we are all supporting you. If you don't comment we won't know how you are.
Dragonsnap, I hooe you are starting to feel better.
Saba, my what a hectic life you lead. Have a good sailing trip next week.
Little lamb, congratulations to your granddaughters, what a pair of stars.
Elaine, nice to hear Andrew is enjoying his new diet. Seems a long wait for results though.
Tv coverage of Irma is dreadful, my thoughts are with all of the people affected by this. Also remembering the lost lives of 9/11.
Thank you for encouragement for today, Maureen working 7 to 11, I like to start early as I am up so early.
Hugs to all, especially our poorly and missing friends.

Good morning Sue. Amazing card! The background with the hint of a moon and the double frame just make your incredible dies stand out even more. Just watching the news and seeing how Irma has hit Florida, hope that you are staying safe and warm wherever you are.
Pam, you've probably left for work by now but please take it easy and if you need to leave early you must!
Rosemary, sorry that you're feeling let down by your friends, they probably don't know what to say, but as other people have said, we are here whenever you need us. Hugs to all. Sue xxx

A basic design to work on. I think it would also look good in a round and square frame. The only thing I would change is the corners as I prefer holly or ivy.

Hi Sue. Firstly I'm sending my love and thoughts to you whether you're safe in the UK and concerned about friends and family, or more so if you're battling Irma, can't help feeling anxious about you both, either way my keeper and I send our love and thoughts your way.
Into the first card of the week - and what a beautiful start. I made so many lovely tasteful cards (blowing my own trumpet ?) No, as it's down to the tools you give along with the lovely inspiration from you that allow us to do this. So this year my forest plus it's cute inhabitants will grow with added woodland trees and deer etc. The most perfect set of dies to make cards for those awkward male's top, it's so lovely and really useful when you provide us with all year round dies during the festive launch, more than any other company can offer. It's a beautiful sample Sue.
As I always do, I send my love and hugs to you and whatever your plans wherever you are I'm thinking of you xxx

Fabulous card this morning, Sue. You give us such inspiration along with the tools to make great cards. I hope you and all your family and friends are safe. We are hearing terrible news from the Caribbean and Florida and yet another hurricane, Jose, is coming along too. I get frightened when we have strong winds here but cannot imagine what it's like to be in such strong hurricanes.
Thoughts and prayers to all in need, especially sick and missing friends from the blog and those who have lost so much in the hurricane.

Morning Sue
Love everything about this amazing card. It evokes a calmness and very peaceful mood - wonderful x
The trees are beautiful and the subtle 'moonglow' sets the whole scene off perfectly. Oh what a clever girl you are Sue x
You really are keeping us on the edge of our seats in expectation for the launch of your new dies. The suspense is nail biting. Please don't keep us hanging on for too much longer x
Spot of baking on the cards for today. Muffins - chocolate chunk, raspberry and white chocolate and blueberry. Then gluten free rich chocolate brownies and gluten free white chocolate brownies. A friend of mine is launching her new business venture so we figured plying future clients with cake may help the proceedings along nicely x
Pam - I know you are already nose to the grindstone but I am thinking of you x
Dragonsnap2 - lovely to see you - welcome back x
Diane - you see I am back bright and early x
Elaine - glad Andrews scan went well and his new breakfast regime is a hit x
Maureen - waited for you at the finish line but got fed up x
Rosemary - I am so sorry that your friends have not been in contact. I really hope they have a change of heart. I think this blog is such an amazing 'pick me up' when I am feeling down. I know it is really hard but try and stay positive. Are there no support groups in your area? As you can't drive would you be entitled to any help with transport? I am not an expert but these things are worth looking into. Ask your GP if there is any support. Sending love and hugs x
Laine - still no launch - both wrong!! Get your bum into gear and get to the dentist x
Little bit more chill time with a cuppa before I turn into Mary Berry and get cracking in the kitchen x
Thoughts and prayers are with everyone who is being affected by Irma and Jose x
Sending happy thoughts and lots of love to everyone especially my blog besties x
Take care

Dear Sue and Crafters,

Deer in the moonlight really do embody peace on earth. Or at least where the deer are.

Lacking a crackle product, I'm trying to think of other ways to achieve a similar effect. Perhaps a random stamping of something with the desired line thickness or an actual crackle background stamp in really dark brown on kraft paper. Then add white highlights.

The swirly rumpled deer family will not do here, I'm afraid.

Saba, nothing gets past you, does it? Even while you're crossing Europe. I was just too tired all day yesterday.

Rosemary Powell, perhaps you're due for a new set of friends. Plus, maybe your purpose is to help your old friends understand how to be a deer. (Send them this card!) I hope you'll find a way to enable members of this blog to Facebook friend you. The photos that come up are really small on my iPad, but is that you posing with John Lockwood?

It took all day Sunday, but my dishes are done! (Last week I only did enough to get by. Now I can cook!

Hope your week is good to you. Let's all be grateful, maybe especially for our challenges.

Love,
Donita

Rosemary, So sorry to read how upset you are but no way can you desert us all on this blog, we are your friends and want to know exactly how you are doing ,i do think it is as others have said , your friends don't know what to say to you etc , i am the worst one when it comes to someone being ill , i don't know what to say as my mind goes blank i would rather run a mile than visit them , or hobble a mile in my case and lets face it you have conquered bigger obstacles than this one and come through it all so no more talk of depression do you hear ,,,.So lets get talking strictly The Rev is a very close friend of a friend of ours she used to support him in her younger days when he was in a group she followed him everywhere ,i think she had a secret crush for him in those days , and she is going to be his biggest fan again i am sure .

Pam i am sure your time will go quickly at work , but if it tires you , you know what to do. xx

Thoughts and prayers to all and to those caught up in Irma and Jose it is all so tragic .

Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Well, the inevitable has happened and i was wrong, wrong, wrong about today being the blog launch but hey, what does that matter when we are greeted with a stunning card which teases and titilates all of the senses:-) i adore the design and composition of this little charmer, the woodland trees are exceptional....i only wish i knew how to create the paint effect, as ive never used crackle glaze before. The background is perfectly atmospheric and the deer stand so proud and regally in the foreground. I also love the trees around the frame, one of my all time favourite Christmas dies. Beautiful card created by a beautiful ladyxxx
Had a really busy day toiling away doing cleaning the bathroom and wooden floors....would much rather have spent the afternoon doing Yvonne's dishes after her marathon baking session in exchange for a few of her white chocolate brownies of course because they are absolutely delish:-) Nevermind, i just made do with some uber moist M&S mini carrot cakes instead....no match but don't tell Yvonne because her head is big enough as it is!
Rosemary, i know how you feel honey, i have lost more friends than i care to count over the years as my health failed, the girls are so right though, there are many reasons to be cheerful because this blog offers many friendships with caring, thoughtful and funny ladies who will always be there for you through good times and bad:-) Plus, doesn't Strictly look fab-u-lous! I am ultra excited by the partnerships and yes, Rev Richard will be a scream, i can feel it in my water:-)
Yvonne, cant you post me some of your white choc brownies, its been a year since i tasted their delights and since you have denied me a visit this year i feel that its the least you can do! Go to the dentist? Who me? Not until i can fit my fist through the hole because I'm a martyr like that:-) No, i have oral thrush...no obscene assumptions please!...and cracks at the side of my mouth so I'm not letting a man/dentist/sadist with all the subtlety of a farmer in a tutu near my mouth until its cleared up!
Maureen, did you get MO's autograph as you passed him over the finish line?:-) PS. Loved the Mr Blobby outfit you were wearing too:-)
Saba, wow, what a well traversed lady you are! Where is your next destination on the ocean waves? I hope you're well practised with your knot tying skills!
Little lamb, congrats to your lovely grandchildren, well deserved accolades I'm sure.
Pam, my thoughts were with you all morning in the hope that you managed to get through the 4hrs without collapsing....okay, probably a fatalistic scenario but i am worried that its too much for you too soon. Hope it all went wellxxx
Like many i am thinking of the people directly affected by Irma, thankfully the casualties are fewer than expected but the devastation to properties and services is chronic, aren't we lucky in the UK?
Today is the anniversary of my baby Dante's death and the horrors of 9/11, two days that will live with me forever, thoughts are with all those affectedxxx

What a beautiful card Sue. It reminds me so much of my 22 years in Canada where the deer were in abundance where I lived in the Haliburton Highlands. Such happy memories. I am not doing much with my card making at the moment as I'm overwhelmed by the thoughts of having to sort out all my 'stuff' in preparation for my move.
Yesterday was 9/11 for me and two of my old friends took me house hunting which I hate with a passion.. We looked at 6 properties with 3 different agents so it was a trying day. It was also the anniversary of the death of one of my babies 55 years ago. I wish I knew one or more of you ladies in person so I could unload some of my worries about moving house at this time in my life. D.O.B 1931. Anyone from that era will know what I mean.
Thoughts and prayers for all of those that were in the path of Irma and also the survivors. of 9/11

I made a card similar to this as batch make last year. A lovely traditional scene. BarbaraC
