Christmas Double Days

Hi crafters! Two completely different cards today, but both very pretty in their own right.  The first one is a traditional red and white card with poinsettias.  I started by cutting the decorative die from the Poinsettia Border on each side of a piece of coconut white card.  I wanted to add some colour to the background, so I used the die to lightly emboss into a piece of Ruby red card.  I hand cut out the poinsettias and glued them behind in both of the side borders for a pop of colour.  I cut the Filigree Poinsettia in white and backed it in red, then cut the centre out to create a frame.  I stamped my sentiment and covered it with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I peeled the backing off and seated the frame over the sentiment then added Diamond Snow glitter to the exposed adhesive.  I cut two of the Holly Octagon die and added them behind the filigree frame before seating it in between the side borders.  I completed the card with white and red mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  8 1/4" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

The second card is a frosty snowflake card that was actually made with some leftover bits from another card I made, waste not, want not as they say!  I started with a piece of aqua card and used the large polka dot mask and pulled Polar White sparkle texture paste through it.  I laid the mask down randomly in a few spots for this.  I allowed it to dry well, then added a few stamped swirls in the open areas using a Clear Perfect Medium pad.  I dusted them with Pearlescent Mica powder.  I added the Bold Snowflake Flurry that was cut from another card that I had used the same mask on so the snowflake has the polka dot texture paste pattern on it as well.  I added it with mounting foam to raise it.  I cut the Greetings of the season die twice out of silver pearl card and just used it as Seasons greetings in the corner.  I used the seconds cut to snip the "s" off of greetings and add it to "seasons" for this version.  The card was finished off with white, aqua and silver mats.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  7 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

My colleague at Work came into work yesterday not well, she dare bit stay off and she only has 4 weeks left to work. It's the way our place us run unfortunately.

Morning Sue. Brrrr it's a cold one so far, I'll be going nowhere today that's for sure.
I think it's card 1 that caught my eye the most, a true Sue Wilson work of art with your tell tale beautiful design. I see elements of Julia in the second card with its varied background elements of stamping and frosting the card through the mask, its a nice card, but number one is more ' you'
Getting through my market festive cards thanks to you and this lovely blog. It so helps being able to 'pin' your samples Sue and keep them all in one place, I thank you for the ideas that grow from your inspiration.
Take this hug and use it when you feel like one and hope it helps you through your day xxx

Two really lovely cards today, Sue, love the design and colours and frilly holly frame on the first and the contemporary feel to the second. Would be happy to receive either!!
Pam - really don't understand how they can (legally or morally) victimise people who are clearly unwell, so upsetting for your colleague... and all of you.
Sharon - hope good news of your daughter soon.
Bejay - so so sorry to read about your sister's dogs Merlin and Dizzy, what a bad time. Trust little Mouse will keep her spirits up. We no longer have a dog because of Mr P's walking condition (fear is if I should become dodgy - ha ha even dodgier - and couldn't walk it). Do so miss having a dog - they laugh at me at the vets as I get my 'doggy fixes' there - as in "oooh what a gorgeous dog, can I talk to it please?" Fairly often. Just hope that one day something canine will arrive accidentally and fait accomplis!
Hugs all round.

Hi Sue and crafters all,

Peter is still waiting for appointments and complains of being cold. He is wrapped in blankets with hot water bottle and the heating on and I am in a teeshirt - sweating - tats life !!!!!!
Pam - hope you and your work colleague are feeling better, sounds like you are being exploited by your employer- this is the 21st Centenary . If you are all ill they will not have a business to run!!!!!
June Smith - glad you are getting around more easily and enjoyed your craft club.
Elaine hope you have put in a complaint to PALS but they do take time.

Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, hurray it is double day Friday and you have not disappointed us, two lovely cards. I have to admit that card 2 just edges it for me as it is my favourite colour, (yes Theresa G we are so alike). I do have a question though Sue, on card one, when you look at both of the pictures that are the full card and look at the side panels it really does look to me as though you have not got anything in the white cut out sections but when you have the close ups it looks like you have used texture paste or ice diamonds or something, can you tell me what you used please. personally I prefer it without anything filling in the white area. Hope this makes sense.

Pam, your company is greatly at fault here with the wait they have treated your colleague, it is our human right to work in good conditions, this is not Dickensian times but the 21st century. Not only is she coming to work feeling very unwell in herself but she is also unwittingly in danger of spreading those germs to others, how would your bosses feel if everyone in the office actually went sick and stayed at home...............surely their is someone in personnel or welfare who could intervene, and what is so sad is that she only has 4 weeks left before she retires, what awful memories she will take with her of the way she has been treated. Sending her a special hug.

Elaine, I told you of my recent experience with a really awfully agency nurse when I was in hospital, I also put in an official complaint (in fact I sent it to the CEO of the hospital) within 10 minutes of sending in the email I had a reply, and in less then 4 days I had everything resolved to my satisfaction with full apologies from so many people and the nurse not being allowed to work in that hospital again. What I am trying to say is that I really hope that Andrew's complaint get's dealt with quickly and efficiently as mine was.

Tina T, oh poor Peter, his body thermostat is really haywire, I do hope you hear from the hospital soon xx

Sharon, hope the news is good of your Daughter, you must be distraught with worry, take care of yourself though xx

To everyone who I have forgotten to mention and you know who you are I send special hugs.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, June Smith xxx

Hi Sue,
Both cards are beautiful but I think the first one just wins for me as I love the poinsettias ☺.
Well, what awful weather today. I was woken up really early by the gale force gusts of wind, thankfully no tornado like in Wales yesterday, then someone was chucking gravel at the window... hang on, it was a hail Storm! Now, my little kitten is only just over four months old so didn't know what it was, is this a problem you ask? Yes it was because he was asleep on the windowsill! The noise when him up with a start and he fell off, bouncing off the radiator on the way to the floor. He then made a mad dash down the hall to the kitchen and through the cat flap, only to come back in right away, jump on the bed and rub his wet fur all over me lol. Meanwhile the dog is so stressed by all the news that she's busy trying to give me a bed bath! I think it was a plot between them both to get me up before the sun lol,
It got so dark just now that I had to put the lights on in there, don't you just love November.
Happy crafting and hugs to everyone who needs comfort today.

Hi Sue
Oh how I love a double day x
As always I love them both. Very different but both gorgeous x
The first one is so typically Christmas being red and white and who doesn't like poinsettias?
Love the 'abstract' and 'left over' second card. Snowy, frosty and festive. Just lovely x
Another apology from me today - so sorry - been absent since my early comment on Tuesday x
I had a bit of a complicated 'issue' to try and sort on Wednesday. This involved a realisation that there has been a 'cock up' on the letter of administration which we have after Steve died
When Steve died (almost 6 years now), there was no will and things were very complicated. As Steve and I were not married, despite the fact that we had been together for 21 years, everything automatically went to the boys as legally they were next of kin.
As George was only 13 years old he had to have an adult representative to deal with things on his behalf until he turned 18. Steve's brother was more than happy to fill this role and everything was fine (or so we thought).
Now that George is 18 it should have been a simple case of a birth certificate and the letter of administration which stated that George was a minor and therefore Paul (his uncle) was acting on his behalf until he was 18. No problem!
It turns out that the document gives no indication that Paul is acting on George's behalf and basically means that this is a legal nightmare. Without the correct wording George is unable to act independently and his Uncle legally could throw a spanner in the works if he so wishes! This won't happen as we have a very close relationship, but it is not something that can be ignored in the hope that it will be fine!!
You would think that after nearly 6 years all the legal stuff would have been put to bed. On Wednesday I had to spend a while digging out files and paperwork and talking to the solicitor who guided us through the difficult legal minefield after Steve died. That in itself is a chore as he really waffles and is so long winded so I find it very draining and obviously quite emotional.
I also had to tactfully explain that I am not in a position to pay any money. I felt that this error should have been noticed at the time and as I was by no stretch of the imagination an expert in these matters did not feel that I should have to cover the costs of this mistake.
Anyway, I have gone on long enough. The result of this is that after a couple of long conversations with my solicitor on Wednesday I had brain overload and was done in!
So I will finish for today by congratulating all the lucky winners of the draw. Quite a few familiar names - enjoy your new toys folks x
I will catch up over the next few days but for now I will send you all happy thoughts and lots of love x
Take care
Crafty hugs

Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a delectable duo, they really remind me why Christmas double days are my absolute favourite. The only problem being, how do you choose a favourite when they are both so gorgeous yet individual? I love the first card, red and crisp white are a favourite combo of mine at Christmas, it is so clean, fresh and oh so very seasonal, like cherries on snow. The poinsettia border die is stunning, i like the touch of sparkle peeking through from behind, possibly my favourite.....However, card two is just so individual and different from your norm. Its no secret that i am a huge fan of texture paste and you have utilised it in a really inventive way here....love the mixture of stamping thrown in for good measure! The colours are lovely and crisp, very appealing. Thanks Sue, for providing me with so much inspiration for my own Christmas cards.
Well, its been a really chilly day with white frost and freezing temperatures, quite seasonal for mid November.....it makes creating dozens of Christmas cards more appropriate though i must say i am glad of my daylight lamp because the days are just so dark.
It has been murder tryin to get Brodie and Darcey to venture outside, particularly for Darcey's evening walk because of the plummeting temperatures.....it could have something to do will the fact that the other night i let her out as usual then proceeded to fall asleep until 3am, she wasn't amused when i got up to find her crying at the window soaking wet:-(
Bejay, i was so sad to read about your sisters dogs, it is heartbreaking when we lose our babies. I must say though, i am a pure cat person and find that they give you so much love in their own unique way, maybe not as full on as dogs but i prefer that. Your poor kitten, it did make me chuckle though, i bet the dog wondered what all the commotion was about:-)
Lynda, i'm so sorry to hear about Annie, it must be so hard for you. Do you have an operation soon too? Sending you hugsxxx
June, well done on your fabulous progress, you should be so proud of yourself. Hugsxxx
Tracy, what a fabulous effort you have made lately, you should be proud of yourself too, if you need more happy pills to help you cope then so be it, it takes a strong person to ask for help when they really need it. Hugsxxx
Yvonne, glad you're getting that legal mistake cleared, hope the windbag lawyer didn't tire you too much:-) Its such a pain when one slight oversight causes all manner of problems later down the line, hope its sorted swiftly.xxx
Tina, glad to hear Micks procedure was a success, lets hope it helps him to at least maintain his weight if not put some more on. Remember to take some time out for yourself if you can from time to timexxx
Hugs to Elaine and Andrew & tina and Peter.
Special hugs to P, Myra, Maureen, Frances, Deb C, Pat, Pam, Lorraine, Maria and all my other besties including Wheely who i hope is well, and Billy of course:-)

Hello Sue,
These are beautiful, but No. 2 is my favourite.
PP, you are certainly going through the legal mill and I hope you get this all sorted out soon.
Elaine, I complained to PALS about my treatment a number of years ago and they were great.
Thinking of Tina & Peter, Tina & Mick, Tracy, and June Smith.

Two very contrasting but lovely cards. My immediate reaction was to prefer the first as I like the red and white, however, looking more closely at the second I have decided that I would prefer not to make a choice as I like the design on that one as well.

Reading some of the working travails mentioned in in posts, I have so much sympathy for those who have to work for unsympathetic, unyielding employers. I saw working conditions in FE colleges decline to often unbearable in my many years of teaching and never was I so glad to retire and leave them all behind me as the day I walked out of work for the last time.
