You Light Up My Life

Good Sunday morning all!  This happens to be the second card that I made when my die prototypes arrived in my hands.  (The first card was my daughter's birthday card last October!)  I just fell in love with this background from the Italian Collection and couldn't wait to see it all done up!  I cut it in coconut white card and inked the leaves with Shabby Shutters distress ink through the die to bring out the embossed vein.  I used Spun Sugar to add some pale pink to the flowers.  I decided to leave a wide border on the background so that I could add mounting foam and raise it for dimension.  I added the background over a piece of white glitter card so a bit of the bling shows through the die cut.  Using some white felt, I rolled it and made two flowers for my card.  I stamped my sentiment and tucked the end under the roses which I seated on some white tulle and added some pearl strings.  I finished this really simple card with a double white mat with a pierced inner layer.  Finished dimensions are 7" x 9" in size.

It is time for the Sunday Comment Game winners.  This week's winners are:

Grannysue!!!
Foxyg!!!
Margaret Corgi owner!!!

For the extra qualifying post of April 16th, the winners are:

Helen Barker!!!
Gingernuts!!!
Lynda McKittrick!!!

Congratulations all!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prizes.

I think that I need to address some of the issues that were brought up a few days ago.  When I moved to the UK eight years ago, I didn't know many people and because my work is done from home, didn't have a chance to really get to know anyone to make friends.  When I started my blog  and it began to grow, it was truly the first time that I felt connected to friends here, even if I hadn't met most of you in person, I began to get to know you through the comments left on my blog.  You, my blog family,  became my lifeline here and continue to do so. People always ask me if it is hard to keep up a daily blog and my answer is always the same, no, it is the easiest thing in the world to do.  What is hard however, and sometimes really heartbreaking for me, is to get to know so many people through my blog, read their comments every single day for months or even years and then they leave.  I always notice and sometimes I email them to see if they are okay, but the truth is that I never know why and often I see these same people commenting on other blogs.   It becomes very evident when I need to look back in the blog for something and then I see the names that have left and wonder why. Was it something I said or did?  Who knows, but I don't want anyone to stop commenting please because it is one of the things that keeps me blogging daily.   I always know that you are there reading the blog when you leave a comment and it just feels so much more personal to me then.  When I finish a card I really like, I actually get excited about being able to share it on the blog because I know I will get your feedback on it.  I don't want to lose that, it is so valuable in my life.    However, I also think we all need support in our lives at some point.  You were all there for me when my father passed away a few years ago, you helped so much, I cannot tell you.  I love the fact that my blog feels like a great big extended family and everyone cares for each other, everyone rallies to help with charitable causes, everyone is lovely and warm to each other.  It does pain me when I feel like someone doesn't feel welcome here as I want it to be a welcoming place to come for absolutely everyone.  I know that I cannot please everyone all the time, but it is in my nature to try.   I don't really know what is considered blog etiquette in this situation either, but I do know that I don't want anyone to stop coming to the blog.   While I don't really have any issues with anyone leaving the comments about issues in their life, perhaps we could just try to keep it more positive and that might help everyone feel like it is a little less weighty and more upbeat.  I truly hope that doesn't offend anyone, but hopefully will just bring about a sort of compromise that everyone can live with.   I will say that  I have been checking into adding a forum to the blog but I am reliant on the computer skills of others to help me bring this about, perhaps that is the answer here, I do not know.  If you have any suggestions , please email me directly.  All for now, Sue x

Afternoon Sue, A lovely delicate card today which looks adorable. Really enjoyed your shows yesterday and you deserve all the success you had even if I wasn't quick enough to get the flower/leaves dies. Sold out after approx. 20 mins!! That must be a record. if I don't blog every day it's not because I've left you, but I'm still having a lot of trouble with my eyes after an operation and find it difficult sometimes but on my better days I go back and look at them. Loving your You tube videos too.Well must dash as your last show is about to start. Congratulations to all winners and hope you are all having a great Easter. Hugs Pauline A x

Hello Sue. I am sorry that you feel like you have done or said something to upset some of your followers. I have not been following your blog for long and must confess I don't read all the posts some are very long and are personal writing. As I don't know the history of any of the crafters following you I do skip those I do feel a bit guilty because I know so many people are herring and do need so comfort from others. I think a forum would be good for those that have made friends to have a good heart to heart
I have to say this is a lovely card I ardour the rose background die. I don't have many of yours yet but hope to increase my collecshion over the next few months. Still not seen your shows as away aty daughters. I will watch the recording once home. I did have a quick peek on my phone last night. Have a safe trip home. Thank you for sharing I would love to craft along side you that would be awesome. I craft alone too like some of your followers my crafting friend moved away. Boo hoo. I admire you for blogging every day as I know your a busy lady and if you read all the blogs then that is amazing in its self. Congrutulations to all the winners. Have a lovely weekend. I am. Keep smiling
Debra xx

Happy Easter Sue, another lovely stunning card. You are such an inspiration.
I'm sure that anyone leaving your blog is not because you have done something.
I know you most probably think I have stopped visiting.
I don't get to visit as much as I would like to do as I can't get on the computer until 10pm when my son as gone to work. By that time I am usually tired.
I do visit but don't always have time to leave a comment.
Your blog and cards are a real credit to you, you inspire all of us. Love and hugs x ChrisB

I love this blog and my WOW friends ( like Lorraine up North I to am a lone crafter) and the inspiration and friendship I get from looking at it first thing every morning just makes my day. I enjoy hearing how others are doing and what is happening in their lives ( where are you Norah hope you are ok? )I'm late in commenting today as I still have my grandchildren here, and also we are having really super gardening weather so I still have some of your shows to watch , I did see the first two of your shows yesterday and they were superb, the others are on tape until I get time to watch them.
Congratulations to the lucky winners and Happy Easter and hugs to all! Safe journey tomorrow and hope you have special happy times with your mum xo

Hi Sue, I too am one of your first group of followers and agree with another commenter who said it's hard to think of things to say everyday. I usually just say hi and if there's something I particularly like I will say so.

I don' t as a rule read what other people write, so was unaware of any "funny" goings on. I must admit as a blog follower I have always thought that really you should just be commenting on the card. That is unless you tell us something about your life other than the creative side and then to comment on that would seem fine.

I too think the answer would be a Forum, which as I understand is fairly easy to set up by someone with a little computer knowledge. People could then chat about all sorts of things and share the highs and the lows of life. I currently only belong to one invite only forum and we do not have moderators as we all know how to behave and the correct etiquette.

Joanna Sheen has a Forum, so was wondering whether Richard would be able to offer you some guidance on setting one up.

I hope whatever has been going on settles down soon and can only offer a few points of advice re posting on forums.

If someone annoys you with something they have written, step aside for a while before posting and calm down.

Never make personal attacks against people who do not have the right of reply. I.e TV presenters and demonstrators.

Remember that for some people a Forum is the only place they can go for light relief or comfort during difficult times.

I was very touched when my Dad died in November that Sue emailed me to tell me a lot of lovely comments had been left. I was very touched by Sue's thoughtful message and the comments people had left.

I am pleased to say tomorrow I will return to my normal style of commenting but hope my ideas may give you Sue some food for thought!

Oh sue I absolutely adore your cards. Your new dies are fabulous and although at this moment I can't afford to buy anything new they are absolutely top of my want/need list. I also would like to comment on your very interesting part of your blog that doesn't involve your card. I am one of those people who used to comment every day. I am a recently new crafter - only two years - and you as a person on C&C and your cards are what inspired me to make my own cards and build up my own craft stash. It was the fact that you are so successful that stopped me leaving comments on your blog. You are so popular and I felt I was probably lost in amongst all the other hundreds of comments that are made. BUT I Have never stopped reading your blog and maybe that is the case with other people. I do want to say I think you are the most talented person I watch on C&C and there are quite a few talented people on there. I have sat engrossed in all the programs over this last weekend. I actually 'book' the TV when you're on. I will in future be commenting on your blog as I used to. Even if it is just to say a quick hello.
Much love Lea x

Hello Sue - this is just stunning! I have visited your blog for longer than I've been commenting, and don't really have time to read everyone else's comments, but I'm sorry if someone has made you feel upset. Your generosity in having regular give-aways and a new and inspirational design every day is testament to your kind and giving nature, and I am thankful that you share your ideas and techniques so freely with us all. Your cards are most often the ones re-pinned from my Pinterest page, so I'm obviously not the only one to appreciate your talent. Happy Easter, Susan x

Thank you so much for writing what we all carefully read this morning! This is your blog - you are the reason we joined and we trust we will keep this in mind in the days that lie ahead all being well. You can clearly see how much this blog means to us but it was absolutely wonderful to read how much it meant to you!
Thank you for that!
I love today's card and was thrilled to see it as I ordered that die from Julia's store yesterday! I look forward to receiving it and experimenting!
I would not have bought a large die before I read your blog as I thought it was not cost effective! How wrong was I ?
Haven't been able to see today's shows as been to church and then had family to lunch. Hopefully will catch up later!
Safe travel, Sue,
Love and thanks for all you do publicly and privately.
Love to all our lovely caring Wilsonettes,
Love Myra

I love the pastel colours on this card today, the die is stunning, and doesn't need much embellishing at all, this card is magnificent !!
Congratulations to all the lucky Winners !!
I'm not too sure what your write-up today means, but if people have left your Blog for any reason, it won't have anything to do with you, Sue, it won't have been anything that you have done, I'm sure !!
Enjoy the rest of your day.

I am one of those who left the blog but I haven't commented on other blogs. It was definitely not something you said that made me leave. Life has been a struggle for various reasons including bereavement with the loss of my mum. This is why I left and even stopped crafting. I am only just going to get back into it. And one of those reasons have been you! You are such a huge inspiration and super talented. I hope you never retire!! I have watched you on TV and am always amazed.

When I came back I did go back and look at every post I missed over 2 years.

I shall try to comment more often. Much love. Keep doing what you are doing.xx

Thanks Sue for a perfect weekend. The shows were amazing, the samples out of this world.
Thinking and reading back to your comment this morning, it made me wish id found you at the time you needed support as you have supported me over the past few months and for that I shall be forever grateful to you for your thoughtfullness and sincere friendship. That takes me onto the subject of either a forum or facebook page. They worry me a great deal. As we know a few wrongly used words can be miss interpretated, taken to heart, and can hurt, and typed words can be so dangerous. The very last thing id want to find is another few days like those we have just had, which saddens us if you get sad. It can take just one message to upset so many people that although we do like 'to share' Im worried that after reading one of the posts here about how a forum got so nasty, it may happen to you and none of us that have found friendship and comfort here want/need any nastiness. You have thrown many of us a lifeline, I for one would hate to 'sink' again.

Thanks again for a brilliant weekend and wish for you a wonderful time in Florida.
Well done card winners on CC this weekend.
Hugs to all.
Lancashire Steph xx

This is very beautiful, soft and delicate and I love it. I was so pleased that C&C put your shows on at times when I could actually watch them live. Worth every second (even though they sold out of what I wanted).
I am surprised by the 'issues' you speak of I'm afraid. One thing I'm absolutely sure of is that nothing you have said or done would cause anyone to leave.
I have been inspired by your creativity on countless occasions and enjoy your blog every day. I read other comments randomly and comment daily (unless I'm away).
Who could possibly be offended by your tactful and sensitive remarks or feel unwelcome on your blog? No-one in the world can please all of the people all of the time, but I'd bet you come closer than most!
Do have a lovely visit with your Mum.

Good sunday evening. What great show yesterday and today. I had to watch yesterdays shows Saturday late afternoon was out all day with my cousin, first for a facial and back massarge then shopping, must ademit I did doze off during facial i think it was the wave music they played. I managed to watch todays shows and thoroughly enjoyed and admired your work on every show. I now know what stamps to buy for the Calafonian dies I bought from J. Sheen and of course I have never stopped using the filiagree flowers and leaves on my cards. I'm off to Jersey in the Channel Islands on Tuesday so I could not order stamps today(never know where the postman might leave them) So hopefully I can order in two weeks time. Once again Sue you are so helpful in explaining how to use these dies in so many different ways. Enjoy your time with your Mum and your American family. Kind Regards Sandra Kent

Hi Sue,

What a beautiful card today, the simplicity of it makes it even more so. I wanted to purchase this die yesterday after seeing it on C&C, but unfortunately I was to late, so if anyone has any ideas where I could buy this item, please tell me.

Your comment about your blog family on C&C today was very heartfelt, and it reiterated what you had said on your blog earlier. I have never felt I was being left out, quite the opposite. Last year I commented on a loss, and the next day I was over whelmed with support, it was like having a big warm cuddle from people telling me that had gone through the same thing and that they were there for me. I had an email from Sue which really took me by surprise as I thought she would have been way too busy to speak to me, and a few months ago when I lost my beautiful Berkeley dog, Sue was there for me then and all the lovely blog family went over and above to comfort me, and I thank all of them from the bottom of my heart. I don't have a big family left anymore, and I know a lot of other people on the blog are in the same situation, and I can say that I have felt nothing but love and kindness in abundance on Sue's Blog, including Sue herself. People come and go throughout our lives for one reason or another. I think part of a good friendship is that, you might not hear from them for a while, but when you do, it's like you had only spoken yesterday, and know that it is nothing that you have said or done, but know that they will come back and check in from time to time.

I wish you a safe journey back home to your mom, and have such a well deserved rest with family and friends. God bless Sue. I know it's late in the day but HAPPY EASTER.

PS. Can I just say that in my blog message yesterday I meant to say Kleenex tissues, not cleanex DOH!!

Has anyone heard from Norah?. I hope you are ok X

Happy Easter all and congratulations to the lucky winners. Have been enjoying your shows and seeing how you use your beautiful dies. My wonderful husband keeps urging me to buy the lot!! Maybe he should buy a lottery ticket first!!!
I visit your blog every day, though don't always comment. I've learned such a lot from it and would hate to lose it, so I'll comment more often!!! Not sure I'd have the confidence to join in a forum.
Take care and thank you, Jan

A very beautiful card such brilliant ideas you have.
I try and look most days but don't always comment as I admit to being a novice when it comes to blogging and I don't always think I have done it right so give up and was a little put off by some saying certain names only appeared when a competition was on. Still I am going try and comment more often. Thank you for your own thoughts. Regards Jane fr.

Hi Sue,
Your card is a dream - and the delicate colouring is just right.

Having read your heartfelt comments I have sat and read all the comments on today's blog - it has taken me an hour and it was good to see that everyone supports you.
As I said in a previous comment if people don't want to read all the blog messages just scroll ove r them.
Lets use this Easter Day as a new start for you and your followers.

I try to leave you a comment daily and being a true Yorkshire lass I do let you know if a card is not to my liking.

Enjoy your time with your family - I have been with my family today and it has been wonderful as they live in different parts of the country and we don't meet up that often.

Lucky winners - it's an amazing feeling when you see your name has been drawn.
I don't know why but Margaret corgi owner's name always pops out at me in the messages and I am pleased she is a winner.

Love you and your amazing cards.

I love today's card and my friend next door has the main die!!! Can make it -or have ago at least.
I read your blog every single day -I get it by email so I dont miss it -but I don't comment every day, just a couple of times a week. I don't really feel I 'belong' to a group though and would love a forum. I know little about setting them up, but maybe Yuku would be a good place to look. I know they do forums.
I know you get so much mail you can't possibly answer or comment on all of either blog or private mails you receive (I've written privately but understood that you would be too busy to answer) so a forum where we can help each other would be lovely. I'm sure you'd feel the support too.
Some people just leave groups/blogs for no reason -I'm sure it isn't personal. They perhaps wanted somwehere a little 'cosier' -please don't take that the wrong way but such a huge number of comments makes it hard to be personal. I'm sure most people understand that but some want more attention!!

Hi, just ordered the hollywood collection of dies.
Really looking forward to receiving them as they will give a whole new look to my cards.
Would have bought all the dies you were showing on C&C but I have aholiday in two weeks to Greece so have to watch the pennies for now.
I held off because of the holiday but tonight, I couldn't resist and ordered them from Sunrise Crafts.
When I saw them on C&C, I just thought WOW!
I wll hopefully get the others in the creative expression set when I get back from holiday and when I make a few cards, I hope my "customers" will be saying WOW too. :)

Sue, I had not received your blog in several days but didn't know why. Then my husband told me he changed some things on the computer and I realized it had knocked some of my daily blogs off. My only way out was to unsubscribe and resubscribe. I won't know for a couple of days if this is going to work. I will be heartbroken if I can't get your blog every day. It's the first I look at. Also, I did not understand comments meant that much to you so I never comment except to enter for a drawing. My mistake. Make no mistake, if you get 300plus comments each day, there are so many more that do not write but love your blog. People can be so mean. Don't give it a thought. Do what you do best and share. Most of our rewards are not of this earth. I will have a Sue Wilson die set very soon! Thank you and God for your talent. Also, I get C&C on my IPad now but still haven't figured out the time difference. You might consider when you publish the times you could tell us in EST, too. Just a thought. Myra from Florida

Hi Sue. Just finished watching your shows from earlier today as just getting back off holiday and i am so pleased with the response to your dies i think everyone loved them. You must feel very proud of yourself after all the hard work you have put in to them. Todays card is beautiful so simple but very effective. Loved the way you have used a touch of colour on the flowers and leaves. I have only been leaving a comment since the launch of your dies on your blog i think it was about six months ago but had been following your blog for about four years but when i saw your cards with your new dies on i just had to leave a comment because they were beautiful and so different from anything else out there. I agree with everything you said sue. You dont have to read all the comments but its lovely to leave one and then you know how much we crafters love your blog. Congrats to all the winners. Have a safe journey home to see you mum and have a wonderful time. Hope she has a lovely birthday with her family and it will give you time to recharge your batteries.
Best Wishes.

Dear Sue,
I have loved all your shows on c&c this weekend your card samples were each and every one of them beautiful and a work of art.
I adore all your new dies and your embossing folders but unfortunately couldn't buy as I have no money in the bank until 29th April so totally gutted I had to miss out. I hope you will be back soon on c&c to give me another chance to buy a collection of your wonderful dies.

The card today is so very pretty, I love the roses background die and the way you have inked them so beautifully.

I'm so sorry I've not been around - this has been a tough year for me already with battles with my health.
I read your blog everyday and enjoy your video tutorials very much. I try a comment when I can.

You are a wonderful and kind, generous person and I'm sorry I've let you down 😔

I hope you carry on your blog I would miss it and you very much, once again I'm very sorry I've not been around,

I hope you have a great time with your Mom back home. Have a good flight.

Dear, dear Sue,
Thank you so very much for your shows (watched and recorded and watched again), which once more have given me great pleasure and inspiration, not least today's beautiful creation.
Thank you for your personal notes on recent negative elements on hitherto upbeat comments; my lovely Mum always said 'If you haven't anythings good to say, please, don't say anything'.
I intend to e-mail with my personal, positive thoughts on these matters as I don't wish to upset any of your faithful and lovely followers.
But for now, my thoughts are going with you to your own lovely Mom. I can just imagine how pleased and proud she is of your magnificent talents and how exited
she will be to see you again.
Wish her a lovely birthday from me and give my love not only to her but also to her breakfast friends. Wish I could be there when you share their company during this trip home.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all that you do.

Dear Sue, I now own the Italian background after meeting you at the Colemans Rushden demo at the beginning of April - I can't believe I had never known of you or seen your work before and if you remember I got quite a ribbing from the other ladies there when I owned up to this. Now though I am completely hooked on your style of crafting and despite owning a fab electronic cutter I just had to have the Italian background which has gone through my Bigshot beautifully. - You're such a lovely lady, your warmth and patience shines through and I'm happy t have joined this blog. My crafting is coming on leaps and bounds now - to think that all these years I had been using the glue you use but didn't realise I could make such easy little pearl drop accents with it! It was great seeing you on TV this weekend and having my email read out - hope you have a safe flight back to the USA and look forward to your daily posts xx

Hi Sue, I so look forward to your shows and demonstrations and made quite a substantial investment at the latest one!

I have started playing around with my new dies, it is so much fun! I really feel it is helpful and I feel fortunate to be able to read your blog and see how you have used the dies, it is like a reference library that I shall keep returning to. So please keep it going.

I have been asked to make an A4 card for a special 80th Birthday. I was wondering whether I may be able to use the background from the Italian collection (roses) and create a large panel (4 cuts on 1 sheet). I think the die will fit across the plate but I have yet to try it. I am going to experiment on Saturday - fingers crossed!
