Faux Letter Press

Hi crafters!  It's a long one today, a video to watch (showing the letterpress technique with a die), a second card to see and pics of my Mom's surprise party.  I hope you have a few minutes to enjoy it all!
Buy from Joanna Sheen

Today's extra card is a really fast card to do which, I know, we all need from time to time.  I started with kraft card (which I love) and used the Justrite butterfly stamp from the Butterfly Kisses stamp set.  Using Adirondack Snow Cap pigment ink, I stamped the butterfly several times across the card, going off the edges on both sides.  I used a Black Archival ink pad to stamp the sentiment.  I also stamped the butterfly in black in the lower area of the card (between the white butterflies) and one more time on a separate piece of kraft card.  I cut out the extra butterfly, but nipped away the antennae on it.  I used a white gel pen to highlight the butterfly then added it directly a top the stamped image so the antennae showed from the stamped image.  I used Black Soot distress ink around the edges and then used my scissors to distress them.  I matted it with a thin black mat, then added a white pierced layer and finished with another thin black mat and a white mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8 1/2" in size.

Here are a few pictures from Mom's surprise party.  I had a bit of problems with the sun coming through the windows so most of the shots are pretty washed out.  I still liked this one even if it is a bit over exposed!

Here is her cake, not a calorie in it! LOL

My Mom has never owned a pair of jeans in all of her life and she made the mistake of telling that to everyone a few weeks ago.  One of the presents everyone got together to give her was her very first pair of blue jeans!

Here she is opening up the other present they got her....

It was a hat!  She loves hats!

Group photo!
Roger and Earl in their party tiaras, Mom in her new hat!  It was a fun breakfast party
though, everyone takes such good care of my Mom when I'm not there.  They are the best!

All for now, Sue x

Hello Sue, loving todays cards, as I always do. Just so beautiful. Photos are fab, Mom looks great.
Jean, I hope your son is making some improvements, my thoughts are with you.
Lindsay, so sorry to hear about Little Floppy, poor little thing. My daughter lost her first horse 3 years ago (grass disease/fever) and even though she has 2 more now, she will never forget her "Mojo".

Morning everyone. This is Nick from Bulgaria. I just had to write to let you know that the vouchers you all sent arrived. Apart from a massive thank you to everyone who has helped to keep the club going, I really don't know what to say, to use the word emotional would be an understatement. I'm only sorry that I will never get to meet you in person, I've been really touched by your kindness and generosity it will make a real difference. I mentioned in an e-mail to Sue that it has reminded me of the film 'It could happen to you' with Nicholas Cage.
I am truly blessed to be a member of Sue's blog and to be surrounded by the amazing Wilsonette's.

Sue both of these cards are stunning, I so love your background die. Thank you for sharing your Moms Birthday photos with us, they're super.
Lots of love and hugs to you all, Take care Nick

Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
Both cards are beautiful today Sue, the cleaness of the white and pale blue letterpress card and the simpleness of the craft butterfly card. The only part that i am not fond of is the roughed up edges of the craft card as i have a thing about neat and pristine on a card(ignore me just another little Norah foible). I love the gentle phrase of the butterfly and it having left its mark where it has landed with the white imprints, before finally coming to rest at the corner. The white with the touch of blue looks so lovely with the calming, soothing effect of the blue. Can i pick today...No i can't as both beautiful cards Sue. So glad that your mum had such a fantastic time with her friends from the coffee shop. Diane Gilman always says you are never to old for jeans and this just proves it. I had a hat similar to that when i was doing my bowling(green bowls) as you wore it when you went to play other clubs, of course that was pre broken back the first time round. I still have my bowling gear up the stairs, if only i could get into it. I am sadly not the size 8 uk(is it size 4 across USA) that i used to be at the start of the year playing, as it went down within the first month of walking up and down for 21 ends. Thank you for bringing back happy memories for me Sue.
NICK, i hope that every bit will help you keep what you are doing going for a long long time. You are bringing happiness to a whole new spectrum of people and giving them the new skills to be able to use in other ways as well. Glad that your time and effort is being so well appreciated and bringing on a new generation of crafters. We are the Wilsonettes, the family that all you need to be one is to be apart of an incredible ladies blog.
Jean, i am so sorry to hear about your son, and being on his own with the wee ones you must be going up the wall with worry. I hope that they find out what has caused it soon and he is on the road to health again soon. We are all thinking of you flower and your wonderful son.
Happy Birthday to Maisie and Xander, a whole one today. Having been a twin for 20 years, there is nothing like having your own built in playmate and fighter. It gets better when they turn about 19-20.
Waohhh Judy, did you not get the present of the year. I'm still available to go in someones suitcase for holidays and i don't mind where it is we're going....any takers?
We have a rotten day across here today so the washing will definitely not be getting put out, but my hills are lovely and clean looking again so i'm happy.
Take care my dear friends, sending hugs and wee prayers up to all our special friends that need us the now,
Love and crafty hugs

Hi Sue,
Hello to all crafting friends!
Wow Sue, what lovely photos. Your Mum looks so young and I did like the card - if Donuts could talk! So lovely to know your Mum had a lovely party. I guess the jeans will take a little getting used to!
I haven't had time to watch the video yet - saving that for later! However the card looks great and will definitely try the technique . Love the butterfly one - I love that stamp. Have used it lots thanks to your great tips.
Nick , great to hear from you - you are doing a great job and I think that just struck a chord here. We can't do what you are doing but we can do our little bit to help. Keep up the good work!
Happy Birthday to Maisie and Zander - 90 years to go to catch up on Sue's Mum!
Jean thinking about you and your son . Take care.
To everyone else! - have a great day - we certainly got off to a great start!
Thanks Sue,
Love Myra , from a rather damp Lancashire.

Hi Sue, Two more beautiful cards and hopefully time permitting I will eventually get to try them both out. I love it when the tutorial is attached. A big thankyou for the prize that arrived yesterday, cannot wait to play with it. The photo's are terrific, if there is a great place to grow old it is definitely Florida, my Mum lived there for forty years and it always amazed me to see the " seniors" zest for living!
Enjoy every moment with her. Regards to all at the breakfast club. Linda.

Hi Sue,
Love the faux letterpress of the Californian background - it is a beautiful die and doesn't need much embellishing to create a lovely card.
The butterfly is completely different but equally lovely. As per usual, I don't seem to be able to pick a favourite.
Great photos of your mom's birthday - she hasn't aged since last year (well, not on the photos anyway). That birthday crew seem to take good care of her. Thanks for showing us the pics.
And, of course, for the video etc.
Hugs, Rose

Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes. Thank you Sue for sharing your happy memories and 'personal' life with us all. I must say, bottle it, make it, share it - I dont look like that and Im 40+ yrs younger than your mom, so, the secret please Sue if you wouldn't mind. Jill does look wonderful, and that hat just suits her so well. Must be such a relief knowing how well she is and that she has a lovely group of friends to keep her happy and active whilst she waits for her beautiful daughter to return.
Oh Lindsay, bless little 'Floppy foal' and her mom, must be so confusing for mommy horse and heart wrenching for you not only watching, but dreading the outcome should flops not get any better.
Jean D. Being so far away just after your return from France then to have the worry of your son must be dreadful, thinking of you.
Now then, brain blur ! You know which friend you are but pleeease dont worry about offending me regarding my daft, stupid and useless hands and fingers, I dont get offended at ALL regarding my 'disabilities' so please dont worry love, for most things my back is broad enough. I get more upset if Im 'put in my place' so to speak than I do with anything : )
Nick - after we heard of 'the problem' we were all desperate to help in some way, it just didnt feel right not to ! Sue's blog was full of 'how can we help' comments, and Sue was bombarded with emails asking how to help. So its just great that we had the option to use Joanna's site and brilliant service to help you. I too am thrilled that we have been able to help you continue your great venture. You are such a thoughtful person to bring so much joy to people. Something we take for granted. So good luck Nick and enjoy trawling through Joanna's site and enjoy all the goodies when you receive them xx

Now then - craft talk time : ) its so odd that all the photo's of the 1st card show cream and black until the very last photo where it shows blue and white ! (on my phone) never the less its stunning, and what amazes me more is that if I were to ask my dies to all stay in one place (even stuck down with the weakest possible stensil tape) they would just laugh at me (conspiracy along with the flakes) they wouldn't stay and behave like yours did ! You never seem to have 'tut' moments Sue ( or do you cut that bit out) lol ? Id love to invest in Grande dies as I adore the large frames but a little more than my finances can stretch to at the moment, as Id love to invest in more of your dies and folders before set 2 are released and I fall way behind ! Card 2 is so beautiful. The main butterfly element says it all along with the heart warming sentiment. I have now invested in kraft card after the last card you showed us, just need to stock up on my white and clear powders, then I will play : )

Cam. Hope your parents arrived safely and you enjoy your time with them. Not long now hon. Still waiting to hear about the honeymoon joke : ) pretty please, such a fab idea Cam.
Pam. Lovely lady xx
Tina. In my thoughts.

To all lovely Wilsonettes. Hugs to you if you need some. Happy Birthday Mrs B

Love you.
Lancashire Steph xx

Dear Sue,

Both of your cards are stunningly gorgeous. I love your letterpress card technique, I've still not been brave enough to try letterpress technique, I think it's because I don't like getting messy!
I'm so glad you had a great time with your mom and she's looking great, maybe I'll get my mum into jeans when she's older too! It was my mums birthday on the 29th April and I bought her, her first electric sewing machine which thankfully she was very pleased with (phew).

Lindsay, sorry to hear floppy is not great, would hate to have to make that decision especially after five months of bonding with him. Late catching up with everyone today as sadly we have been attending the funeral of a brave, kind and lovely lady it has been our privilege to know.
While in church today Pam you were especially in my thoughts x
Norah thought of you on the way to the crem as we passed a cement wagon with a plaque on the back and in large letters was, McPhee nothing else just McPhee x
Warm wishes and hugs to those who need them.

Good evening Sue,
Had a quick look at cards, no time for video, that will have to wait until Saturday. Grand-daughters here for sleep over. Roll on next Tuesday when school Easter holiday ends, and they go back to school, and we get back to normal. Still look after them before and after school because both their parents work, but we have the middle of the day and evening to ourselves. Love your cards, as usual. xx
The photographs are great, love the tiaras!! xx

Hi Sue,
I love both cards, especially the second one, which I shall definitely be copying. I make cards to sell for the Samaritans charity so quickie cards are the order of the day.
I'm also the office card fairy, making cards for everyone to sign on colleagues birthdays etc. so the more sophisticated ones fit the bill there.
Thanks for sharing your photos of your mum's birthday breakfast, it looks like you all had a jolly good time.
NICK: I'm so pleased that you've been able to make good use of the gifts. You're doing a fantastic job. All the best.
Love, Karen

Hi Sue, two great cards again today, loving the clean look of the first one and of course you know I would love the second one with it's butterflies. I will watch the video later or more likely tomorrow lol.
Thank you for sharing the pictures of your mum's party, she looks so happy and what a great bunch of friends she has.
Nick, so pleased you have received your vouchers, we were all happy to help in our own small way.
Ivonka, welcome to the best blog around.
Happy Birthday Mrs B, hope you had a great day.
Lindsay, so sorry about 'floppy' the foal, at least he will have a good life with you even if it is a short one. As pet owners we have a responsibility to do what is best for them, not the best for us.
