Happy Birthday Friend

Hello all!  This is one for the guys today.  This card is actually quite striking in person, but I struggled to get a really good picture of it.  The close ups show it in better detail though.  I started with a piece of decorative card from my stash.  I covered it with a sticky sheet and micro beaded it for a nice textural feel.  I cut two of the Venetian borders in black and glued them to the top and bottom edge.  I stamped the sentiment from the Justrite set called Birthday Wishes For You on tan cardstock .  I cut a frame from the Splendid Circles out of black card and mounted it over the sentiment.  I used taupe card and the Gold Circles to cut a thinner frame and mounted it on top of the circle frame.  Using the Gold Majesty Circles, I cut two in tan and two in taupe.  Since this die is asymmetrical in shape, I nipped them apart and used the two matching shorter sides together in taupe and the two longer sides together in tan to give the die shape a different look and mounted them around my sentiment.  I added black flatback pearls to embellish parts of the die cuts and finished with a double pierced taupe mat.  Finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 9" in size.

Time for the winner of the Wednesday Card Giveaway.  This week's name that was drawn is:

Lydia Jordan!!!

Congratulations!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your card.  Don't forget to check in tomorrow to see if your name is on the list for the Comment Game Winners!

Sam Poole has some brand new nautical stamps for us today on Create and Craft.  Be sure to tune in to see the shows at 11am and 4pm!   All for now, Sue x

Hello Sue and everyone, wet and miserable today in Hartlepool but todays card certainly cheers me up as I need a male card. Congrats Lydia.
Jeane, so happy that Gary has had his surgery and is well enough to be home with you - nothing like a mothers care to make you feel better.
Lindsay sorry to hear about the foal.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy weekend, big hugs all round xx

I really like this card , which surprises me as I don't usually go for dark cards but there is something about this one, it has a kind of retro look which appeals, I still love the Venetian border and the other dies used here look great!
Gail, so sorry about the sad news you had about your brother , my heart goes out to you , I don't know how you deal with this but for his sake I hope you find the strength from somewhere ( sending you big hugs )
Congratulations Lynda, enjoy your original WOW card!

As much as I adore your new dies, Sue, it is still nice to see some much loved Spellbinders. Wonder if their sales have dropped since you stopped presenting them? This is a great guy's card and I'm one who likes the darker side of things!!
Well done to Lydia. Hugs for all those in turmoil, especially Gail.

Good morning Sue
What a great masculine card I find them hard to do so thanks for the idea. This is why I love your blog you make us think out of the box. I would never have used that border for a mans card but it looks fabulous. With a micro beaded background your on to a winner with me I have an addiction to using them LOL. I have some nautical stamps from CE (can't remember if they were Sam's) that I tend to use when making any men's cards. I see that Sam has some new ones today so will definitely be getting them. I have set the recorder and will be watching, she does brilliant demos and is a very talented lady.
Patricia you brought a smile to my face with your 'ironing' lol

Good morning Sue and everyone from a very wet North Yorkshire.
I can't make up my mind about this card, sorry Sue. Maybe it's because I don't do many mens cards and when I do need them they're for specific people.
Gail, so sorry about your news but unload on us ANYTIME, we are hear to listen. Jean, pleased that Gary is on the mend. Carmeeli, hope you are ok, we're all missing you.
DD starts GCSE exams on Monday so our house is a tad stressed but I know that we are very fortunate that that is our only problem.

Hi Sue. Morning all Wilsonettes from a wet and miserable Bolton Lancashire.
Woohoo - Congratulations Lydia, you have your very own W.O.W (wonder of Wilson) life will stand still for a while as you spend days stroking and staring at your W.O.W. Enjoy : )
GAIL... WELL DONE joining Sam's design team, a member of CE how lucky are you. So to ALL you Wilsonettes that share this fantastic creative talant and long to be on a design team, it IS possible. Go looking for your dream - right Gail ?
Thanks Sue for giving us a masculine card today. I have brain freeze with everything at the moment, but Male cards are SO hard I think, if they dont like sport, reading, walking or music, you've had it!! I have a collection of all the above plus a few pages from old books that look fab when inked and aged to use as background, but just to use a few dies placed on the card with the appropriate sentiment is all that is needed sometimes. Maybe we should get our Nick's help with Male cards, he could guide us in the male card direction lol as I have many a *TUT* moment when doing male cards ( as awkward as the gender themselves) !!

Cam we NEEED you, we are waiting to hear about the wedding !
Another day PAM - you are an inspiration every day.
Thinking of you Gail and Lindsey..

Thank you Margaret and Corgies.

Soft gentle cuddles to those unwell and in pain.
Cassie off to see her canine friends again at 11am, yep, training day, no outside playtime for them today : (

Hope your day is beautiful and bright Sue and you find time to relax today.
Love to all Wilsonettes.

Hi Steph, It's a shame Men's cards are harder, I have to agree, a lot of it is because a lot of companies either don't bother catering for us or they all bring out the safe stuff so the choice is very limited. I have to say I usually make my own toppers etc. for men's cards.

Hi Sue, a great male card just right for those awkward men in our lives. Not too dark for me love the colours used very stylish. Lol lynne m x x x

Yucky day yesterday with the wind and rain, I was dreading poochies being stuck indoors. I have to thank a fly ( yes the only time I will thank a fly!!!) for keeping said poochies occupied. They spent the entire day chasing the fly around the house trying to catch it, even jumping up and down like kangaroos at one stage. It was super funny to watch cuz you could tell they were getting frustrated and
trying to out do each other in the hope each one of them would get to the fly before the other one did. Well the fly has lived to annoy them another day.
Lindsay - so sorry about the foal and stallion. Poor you, sending you hugs x x

Hi Sue,
This is a lovely card, using dies that I would not have naturally used for a guy card. I like the colours as well. A few more ideas for guys would be very welcome! I love making flowers, but my guys don't really appreciate them! LOL!
Best wishes, Anne O

Morning Sue, How did you know that I need to make a 'man' card for June and this has given me some inspiration. i have used the Venetian die many times on cards particularly for females but have't used it for any men in the family. as yet. I like your colour scheme too as i am into black and gold cards at the moment so this will be an extension of that . Congrats Lydia. Hugs Pauline A x

This is really gorgeous Sue and whilst it's quite masculine it still has a beauty to it.
My hubby isn't a sport lover or DIYer etc and so the usual male themes just don't work for him. But something like this is perfect. But it would also be perfect for some of my girl friends who don't "do" pretty pretty.

Thank you, it's really got me thinking about what I can make :)

hi sue i always struggle with mens cards so this one is brilliant i will be sending out a few, as long as the men don't start visiting each other then i will be rumbled, lol i love the colours and when i look at the dies it makes me realise how few i have but i will soon rectify that

Anonymous said...

Hi Sue,
I can't make up my mind about today's card - I think it might be because it is showing a little too dark for me on my screen. I'm sure it looks much better in real life. I do however love the fact that you have used the Venetian border die. I love that set and would have it was too 'girlie and frilly' for a man's card but in black it looks stunning. Hope everyone has a good day even if the weather is bad.

Cameeli great to have you back , you sound really upbeat despite Ofsted ! All the best , glad wedding went well .
Congratulations Jackie, will definitely look out for your cards today! Have recorded the shows. You must be thrilled.

It's a bit dark for me, but I do like it.

I was having a little play with the corner die from the Italian Collection - Corner, Border & Tag and I made a butterfly. I will be posting it on my blog later today, so hopefully you will pop by and take a look when you have a chance.

Have a lovely weekend.

Happy Crafting!!! :) X X

Hi Sue,
This is a dark one for today, but I adore the Venetian border, I have used mine many times, it can be blinged up or toned down, as in this card. It is too dark for me really, but I like the antique look and the micro beaded paper is a lovely touch.
Congrats to the lucky card winner.

Bye for now from windy Wales.

Great masculine card for us Sue, and for those who think it rather dark I'm sure it would look just as good using slightly lighter colours.
Congratulations to Lydia on your card win. Cameeli so goo to have you back and grat to know all went well, as soon as the ousted report is done have a rest! Lynne, love your story today about the girls fly, Jackie well down for getting on the DT, excellent news, nancyd so glad your friend is going well after her op.
Thank you all so much for the lovely words you have sent me today, Arfur the stallion is about the same, still a swollen leg bit he is being good and taking his antibiotics in a feed with no problem so hopefully they will start to work tomorrow, as for Fauna foal, no choke episodes today but her breathing is very fast at the moment, so life is still not good for her, but she looks so cute going out in my dogs coat to keep her warm and dry, just hope she has no more occurance a of choke as it's horrible when this happens, on a brighter side though my ribs are far less sore!
Love and hugs to everyone, and extras to those in pain either physically or mentally, and hope Norah is ok xx
