Sunday 4 May 2014

Congratulations

Good Sunday morning!  Another demo card for you today.  I used dies  from across several of the collections so you can see just how nicely they work together.  I started with the California Collection for the background and cut it out of taupe card, leaving a small border around the edge.  It was just wide enough to add foam mounting to the edge and in the centre where I knew my sentiment would cover it.  I matted it on black card to bring out the pattern nicely, then on to a larger taupe mat.  Moving on to the Italian collection, I cut the largest die from the Decorative Frames in black.  This is the one with the pretty little hearts around the circle.  I used the outer cutting edge and the smaller die from the set to give me a frame. I cut a matching taupe piece without the hearts to use as a backer for the frame.  I added mounting foam to the back of this frame and set to work on the sentiment next.  I stamped my sentiment from the Creative Expressions set called Bold Sentiments using a Black Archival ink pad on to milk card.  I cut it out with the Murcia die from the Spanish Collection (we have now been around the world! LOL)  I mounted the heart frame over the die, making sure the sentiment was central, then nipped away the excess from the edges.  I mounted this piece in the centre of my background.  Using the black and tan striped Grosgrain ribbon, I tied a double bow and added it to the corner of the card.  A black crystal sparkler was added to the bow knot and two pretty stick pins were made to match and tucked into the knot as well.  I finished the card with a double pierced mat cut from milk coloured card with a thin black mat insert in between and I added pearls to the background too.  Finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x 8 1/2" in size.

LOL  I hope you understand!  All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue, good Sunday morning to you too! Love this card,(as always) just wondering where you get those lovely beads you use for the stick pins. I like to make my own, but yours are much prettier. Do you think Creative Expressions might consider bringing out bead sets for this purpose? Love to you, your Mom and all my fellow Wilsonettes.

GM Sue - love the background on this - Hope you dont mind me pointing this out but you say the Murcia is part of the Italian collection in the description but on my list it's part of the Spanish collection so think you might have made a tiny error here - most unusual for you. I dont have the Murcia but have the ohter 2 dies so will have to substitute with something else from the Spanish sets I have.

Congrats to soo many lucky winners - it's lovely to see so many names on the blog these days.

Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
What a cracker of a card this morning Sue and for me just the right amount of black against the white making it pop. Your stick pins just finish it off to perfection. I bought pj's for my mum out of primark and pinched the ribbon of the two sets that i bought as they had lovely grograin ribbon like yours tying it together and it seemed a shame to waste it.
WOW we have a lot of winners again this week and i hope that you all enjoy your stamps when you get them. I think Sue must have an in built eye into all our stash that we have as she always seems to know what we have and send a different set to build up our stamp department.
Oh i am so glad that i brought a smile to you all yesterday with the life and times of being me. Lorraine, i am glad i brought back such "happy memories" of your own honeymoon(cough, cough) sorry had a tickle in my throat. Are you certain you are not related to my family as i am sure your husband must be related to mine. I hope that the car seat was at least comfortable for you to get some shut eye, i wont say sleep as i don't think that it would come all that readily but i am amazed that you are still talking to him. Did you vacate the dog from its house for hubby's use off?
Cameeli, i hope that you had a brilliant day yesterday with all your family for such a beautiful day and i am typing quietly just incase your head is some what tender today. Hope that your mum and dad enjoyed their grandsons special day and got some pictures taken with the happy couple. Steph, you are next flower with your beautiful daughter and gaining a new son along the way. My stepdaughter is getting married in 2016 on 26th June, so i know we will all be thinking of you just like we have for Tina and Cameeli. Are you all set with everything for the wedding now? I think i am going to have to decorate the sticks but it's grumpy hubby and daughter that i will need to contend with as they wont want shown up.
Oh well from a misty Glenochil i wish you all well today and sending my cyber hugs to our most special of Wilsonettes as usual, you are always though of through my day, take care and i hope to see you all tomorrow,
Love and crafty hugs
Norah (Glenochil)

Hi Sue,
A bit later today as have had a family lunch here . Now I have sat down for a few minutes with a coffee! Today's card is beautiful. It is so lovely to see how all the dies may be used together - well not quite all at once but you get my drift! This one just looks perfect! Made more stick pins yesterday as I'd used all the ones I'd made previously.
Hope you have a lovely Sunday with your family!
Congratulations to all the many winners!
Looking forward to hearing Cameeli's wedding report! Trust it all went according to plan.
Love to all crafting friends,

Sunday Smiles to you Sue and all Wilsonettes. What a beautifully happy friendly blog this Sunday, it has bought a warm smile to my heart.
Cam - hope your day was full of wonderful tender moments, that the wedding went really well and your pretty additions appreciated. Was thinking of you at 2pm. Take time to recover, rest and reminice (sp) ?!
To all lucky winners listed ( too many for my grey slush to remember) ! Enjoy your stamp sets ( I also kept the envelope and compliment slip) isnt it exciting to receive a gift from our Queen of all craft : )
Id love to be able to make my own pins to enhance my cards but I just know Id be tutting every few seconds as my fingers cant feel such delicate things as gems etc so although Id love to sit and make lots n lots it would cause me too much upset and frustration - hohum : (
I picked up my Italian dies yesterday and will hopefully play tomorrow. Not a great day, easier to say where Im not hurting today, oh how I hate feeling like this, but hayho, thats life, zmile and get on with it : )
Todays card sure has taken us round the world without all the hassle of arranging connecting flights lol. WOW Sue, the reasons behind the design of your dies are sure showing us just how versatile and mix and match they all are, with stamps to match, thank you not only for showing some of us how its done, but for knowing what crafters need to expand their crafting knowledge. I must say that visiting a few Sue follower's blogs, they are showing your dies so beautifully Sue, I know you would be SO proud of your 'children' lol.
I hope you are managing you and mom time inbetween working, and enjoying every second you spend together.
Have a lovely BH Monday dear friends.
Love you.

Helloooo Sue and all the Wilsonettes! Such a gorgeous card Sue. You are always telling us to mix and match our dies and what a gorgeous example you have shown us here. I like how you have just given it a bit of pop at the back of the black circle....ooooo and those pins... Love it all! xx Hope you are having a wonderful time! Oh wow! Congratulations to all the winners! Wonderful! Enjoy your prizes xx Lynne, loving the antics of the fur babies . I can just imagine the birds ducking and diving while they're running around like "mad dogs" Lol! Our two budgies chase each other up and down the rope playing kiss chase..... Sending you a big hug xx Norah, you wonderful person you. Love it when you are telling us your stories. You bring back so many memories that have been buried soooo deep in the old grey matter and have us in fits of laughter at your journeys in life. Thank you so much for making our day. I quite agree that you should write a book. Just think with all the royalties you can buy even more of our Sue's dies..... If that isn't any motivation I don't what is!! ps, like you I also take the ribbon off.... xx Sending love and hugs to all our Wilsonettes who are in need xx Take care everybody! xx Love Karen xx

What a beautiful card! I have 2 of those dies and the Italian frames are on "the list" of items I neeeed. Going to see if I can come up with something similar. Going to have to add those ribbons. I have been mulling over them for a while. I'm going to have a lot to try when I (finally) get up the table.

Hi Beryl.

You can colour any fabric with an alcohol marker like the one you mentioned. You can also use most types of inks and ink pads, a lot of different looks are possible. For thicker fabrics or ribbons (like crochet) you will have to hold the pen on to let the colour seep into the fibres, you can also quickly and lightly run the marker over the top of fabric for an 'inked' look. If you have alcohol ink or refill ink put the ribbon onto a surface that you can clean easily and drip the inks on top. Crochet is mostly done with a cotton or cotton mix yarn so is bulkier than a flat ribbon which is quicker and easier to colour.

Cut off a small piece to practice and colour test. Then if you pick the wrong shade you haven't lost much. You can also colour over lighter shades with darker ones so if going straight for it, start with the lightest shade that you think fits your project and go darker shade by shade. Keep the test piece as a reference, label it with the colour and pen/ink type you used. If you have enough spare fabric/ ribbon have a play with inks/ pens to see what you can achieve. Water based ink works best on a lace or crochet to give a subtle pattern or change. Pigment, die and permanent ink will work on nearly everything. Even the patterned ribbon like Sue used can be re coloured as the ink will stain the lightest part. Don't forget to let the ink dry before you decide if it's the right shade as alcohol inks/ pens often dry to a slightly lighter shade.

Hope that answers your question. I love colouring and recolouring as if I have used the same colour elsewhere on the project or as a highlight or complementary colour embellishment.

Every time I think I have enough dies you use another one I must have!! Love the background on this card. Would prefer a bit more colour and a softer bow (I find that stripped ribbon very hard with such delicate cards) but the idea is great and I'm off to hunt for the background!
