Surprise!

Hi Blog friends!  I bet this one caught you off guard, didn't it?  Just when you think you will find a post with another frilly girly type card, I give you Steampunk! I had completely forgotten that I made a bunch of steampunk style cards for Ally Pally in September.  There are a scad of these that are mixed in with the backlog of cards that I have been posting recently.  Hopefully, you will find the change refereshing, or at least, interesting, even if it isn't your taste. Every once in awhile, you just have to get inky and  this card was done entirely with Pumice Stone Distress ink.  I first stamped the vintage inventor in the centre of the card using a clear perfect medium pad and clear embossed him.  This created a resist which I inked over and around in a halo effect using the pumice stone ink.  I stamped some of the extra stamps from this set (which is from Sam Poole by the way) in the background and down a strip of card that shows from under my film strip and acetate.  I stamped and cut out the pressure gauge and added a few of the Tim Holtz metal gears for texture.  I inked the chalk white seam binding with the pumice stone ink and made a messy bow and topped it with a black zipper rose.  To complete the card,I distressed the edges with a pair of scissors and then inked them and  matted it with a piece of black card in an offset manner.  All in all, an incredibly quick card to put together and especially nice if you know someone who loves steampunk.  What do you think, why don't you have a go at it!  All for now, Sue x

I love this type of card (much more my kind of thing) though you do 'girlie' so well. I need to get more of these zipper flowers, I don't think there's anything they don't go with! x

The card looks really aged, which i guess fits the era right, steam punk is something which i haven't yet tried , great stamps by Sam !
thanks for the ideas.

Thank you Sue! I am just like you in that my cards are never 'complete' without my ribbons and spellbinders. I do like the idea of steampunk, but I've tried and not been happy with the results- even examples I've seen have failed to inspire me...until now!!! I am definitely going to follow your lead with the colours, and I do have to get some zipper roses!! Carole

WOW I think, it´s a refreshing change, so it´s not just always the same. I´m the same way, I can get on with something for a while, but then I suddenly have to try something quite different, and I think, we all know different types too, so it´s just good to be able to make a lot of different types of cardds, and this looks pretty awesome I think. I just love the vintage inventor in the middle, it really looks cool.

You make a lot of very inspiring cards, but this one is absolutely brilliant! I really love it! I did talk to Sam a little about her steampunk stamps at alexandra palace show, and with this card & your trademark use of ribbon and flowers you have added your own twist! Excellent. Show us more!!!

Gorgeous card! I love how you've used Steampunk on this card.

I do like Steampunk, but sometimes the cards can be a bit too busy, but your card isn't and is just stunning.

Happy Crafting!!! :) X X

Love it Sue. I am a girly girl, but Steampunk is now my new passion. I ordered Sams stamps after watching her on C&C. They are fab and you don't have to do Steampunk cards, just combine elements to form any mens cards. However, Steampunk is delightful because its imaginery. Remember its not Steampunk if you conform, it the idealogy and fantasy that make it so interesting. Mix machinery, steam, fabric, clockwork, etc its really up to you. Sorry girls, lesson over! Regards Linda x
