Orphan Cards

Happy New Years' Eve all!  As tradition would have it, today is the day for my "orphan" card post.  They have been called orphans in the past because I was always looking for a good home for them, but I do have to confess that I have forgotten to dig them out of their totes and leave them to be posted and I am nowhere near where they are at the moment.  So, breaking with tradition, I am just going to share these with you.  For whatever reason, the colour was wrong, the layout didn't work, proportion was off, they were just plain boring or who knows why, they just didn't work for me when they were finished.  They never had their day on the blog as I just didn't feel like they would inspire anyone.  Hey, we all have off days, right??  However, I have learned one thing after all these years of blogging and that is what I may not care for, some of you do and vice versa.  There weren't quite as many as usual this year though so maybe that's something! LOL  I do, however, always love to hear what you think about them. Agree with me?  No?  Have a favourite or least favourite among them?  Let me know.

Be safe if you are out and about tonight!  All for now, Sue x

Gorgeous cards Sue all lovely and ending with a smile. , wonderful way to end 2917 which has been a suoer year fir you and us with your wibderful postings and die collections. Can't wait to see what you bring us in the Coming year. You are a very talented lady, dedicated to your craft and your blog followers and we love you for it, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Julia was superb as always, her Demos are amazing, her tips are so useful and she makes me laugh too. Good combination.
June, you sound better, hope your crafting was good. Lovely that your friend will join you on the craft retreat.
Donita I have the Baby Blue and the Spellbinders Sapphire, both small and mighty cutters and very easy to do what you want, where you want.

My SIL and nephew will be leaving tomorrow morning around 9am to drive back to Herne Bay in Kent and the house will be quiet again.
Elaine, my fervent hopes and wishes are for Andrew to regain his strength and health as I know that will give you all the best for 2018. He can do it, he is very determined. Love and hugs to you and him and all if the family.
May I pkease take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you, health, happiness and heartfelt peace for 2018, you are an amazing bunch of people who I am very proud to be part of. New year hugs to all, esoecially our missing and poorly friends and their carers too.

Good morning Sue. Happy New year's Eve to you and everyone. I wouldn't call it a break with tradition, I'd say it was a new tradition instead! Part of the reason I love your blog is that even when I don't have the "ingredients" you've used or I'm not a fan of the colour scheme, I can always get a spark of inspiration from you - whether it's a different way to use a die, or the layout of the card, so thank you again for everything you do.
I would like to wish everyone a very happy and healthy New Year. To those working tonight, I wish you a peaceful and safe night. Hugs to all. Sue xxx

Well Sue, good morning. What do I say about these samples above ? There's just one that I'm not sure about, and that's the last 1. Looks like you had just started to shade the stamp then your prototype dies arrived, you got engrossed with those then forgot to finish shading in the sample, but to have fewer cards either means your not as 'picky' which I doubt as you're such a perfectionist or your designs are making you do more 'happy dancing' either way if only my cards were as beautiful id be one happy bunny, honestly Sue, I think the human brain is so remarkable the way everyone of us will see something different in every sample. Like I've already said all but 1 really deserved to be showcased ☺
For whatever the reason people can't pop in tomorrow whether it be happy family visits, or a bad head (huh, no sympathy there for self inflicted illness) lol I hope you have fun times tonight and I wish you nothing but love, happiness and health for 2018 and a year of crafty achievements.
We find NY quite a sad time as you start to remember those you loved and lost, so on that note, I will also be thinking of Graeme and Tracey's family and friends who dread the year ahead, all the 'firsts' to get through, so I hope you can find the strength to get through those days with the love you share with your family.
As to all those that pop in and out, old and new Sue admirer's I wish you a wonderful New Year surrounded by happiness and health and who can forget ... brand new die collections ☺
Hope your day is a great one Sue wherever you are in the world and whatever your plans my love and hugs will find their way to you xxx

Hi Sue,
I didn’t know about this tradition but I know that all are lovely cards and I can find some great ideas looking at these "orphans". Favourite? For sure the last one,Smile. But all I know is that what you create, even some don’t meet your expectations, your very high expectations, those cards still have your style. I easily recognize your cards on the net, out of those hundreds of cards. That means something, right? It means that you are Amazing and Fintastic! And I hope the coming year to be better than this one for you and your loved ones.

Dear Wilsonettes, what I want for me, I wish for you too: to be healthy, safe and happy!
Thank you for being my friends and thank you for making this blog a lovely community of caring people! Remembering Tracey in your posts proves that. She will be forever in our hearts. Let’s hope for a better year for us all.

Happy New Year’s Eve, everyone!
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only across the pond Wilsonette

I often seem to make cards that don’t do anything for me Sue. Sometimes all you need is to change the colours, the fourth one you are showing is my favourite but may look better in lighter colours. Still my favourite though. Wishing you a very happy and enjoyable crafting new year. Xx

Hello Sue and all
Happy new year to you Sue and all the Wilsonettes - I wish everyone a happy, healthy new year with lots of time with the ones you love (and crafting lol!!!)
Love the cards Sue, as you said some kind of miss something, not much at all in most cases, a bit more colour or a different colour card - but all are still full of inspiration.
I hope you are enjoying where you are and all other fellow bloggers

Hi Sue,

I like the second card with the golden butterfly, the fourth (very) ornate black and gold number and I can see where you were heading with the partly-coloured Smile card...as for the others, although they didn't do it for you when you finished them I bet they provided a springboard for new "improved" versions which did have their day on the blog so the time you spent making them wasn't wasted was it?...

...and thank you for all the inspiration you have given us over the past 12 months, the new dies, fresh ideas and most of all this wonderful blog that we can share with you and each other whatever else is going on in our lives...

Good Morning Sue. It is an old saying that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what suits one doesn't suit another.... and where would we be if we all liked or disliked the same. There would be no change there would be no blogs there would be nothing to compare anything with.... it would all be the same. Sue you bring something to all of us admitted we all love to craft.... but we all have our different subjects. You have certainly been an inspiration to me over the last few months that I have been following your blog, I feel I have better ideas after seeing your videos and hearing your tips... on how that little tweak on something makes the whole difference to a project.... I have been made welcome by lovely people who I now regard as friends. My morning cuppa is a whole lot nicer as I read this wonderful blog. Plus I got to be a winner on your die launch, that meant so much to me. Thankyou again.
Pam I hope all goes well with your op when it happens... Elaine I hope things will be better for you all..Graham I am thinking of you all.
To every one else Have a wonderful time celebrating.....
I wish you all A Happy Healthy New Year

I like both the butterfly and the smile cards as it happens!!

Dear Sue and Wilsonettes Wishing for a Better New Year.

Oh yes, the butterfly speaks to me, too. I might swap out the black for a bluish green. I like the effect of the Daisy Circle inner die inside the treat cup, and Number 4 might just need more white. Stephanie Cotterill, you might already know and were just making a joke, but that's the spotlight technique. Usually the spotlight is smaller and round rather than octagonal.

Sue, not only are your runners up useful for inspiration, they're also worth studying for why they didn't pass muster. It's not immediately obvious to me why these seem lesser, or what the winners have that these don't, but I'm sure there are principles at work that an artist would know but the rest of us don't. Hard to figure out for somebody still challenged by how to color an orange to look round.

Izzy, what is a mangle? A blender? A garbage disposal? A mixer?

And thanks everyone who recommended little die cutters. It's nice to know they work.

I've learned that in this cold, one way to stay warm is to die cut for a while. I always have to take off my sweatshirt.

I, too, will be glad to see 2017 go, and hope for a better 2018.

The waiting is over. Alzheimer's finally released its grip on my mother on Saturday afternoon. Dad was holding her hand when she stopped breathing. I don't want to clog the blog with sadness, so I'll say that she was a difficult person nearly all her life, and for a while Alzheimer's actually improved her character because she forgot all her resentments. She didn't know who Dad was, other than that nice man who came to visit her, then she didn't know anything. Deep down she had a loving and caring heart, but life twisted her into all sorts of awful. Still she managed to give us a better start than she had. I'm feeling a great sense of peace, knowing she can no longer hurt us (I hope) and imagining her joy at coming into her true and beautiful self. Plus, I just had a lot of chocolate. Could I ask that if you feel moved to respond, could you do it by email to donita0622@gmail.com or on Facebook, Donita Naylor, with the picture of me peeking out from a slice of agate? Then we can start the new Particraft year with hope and delight.

The lovingness of this group already buoys me. You are some of the finest people in the world, and it's an honor and pleasure to be among you.

Wishing you everything good, and if it can't be good, then exactly what you need for growth. (Not talking to you, Andrew's rogue cells.)

Love,
Donita

Had I seen any of these cards on a normal day I would have thought - beautiful. However trying to look with a critical eye and see them as you would (I know that's almost impossible, but you did ask lol). My favourite would be the butterfly in black and white, and the only thing I could see wrong (maybe) would be for me the pearls on the butterfly look too creamy and need to be pure white to tie in. The only other I could find anything to complain (maybe the wrong word but I cannot think of another) about was the partial coloured one. I had to look deeply at this before I realised it was two different layers and maybe, just maybe another mat to give the upper layer a very slight separation would have worked better. I have tried to be honest and do as you ask Sue, but hope no one is offended by my comments as I would hardly like to put myself in anything like the same class as you - you amaze us all on a daily basis with your fantastic talents.

Wishing everyone a Happy and Healthy New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone!! I don’t like these cards Being called orphans!...it implies that they are unloved!! 😕 my favourite is the butterfly one! No surprise there!! I seriously can’t wait to get my craft stuff back out...I am having withdrawal symptoms!! I had to pack it all away early December because I use the dining room table...well & the whole room really! So it was quite a task! Once New Year is done I can start to get everything out again!! I think being realistic....maybe Thursday or definitely by the weekend!! Hee hee 😀

Orphan cards or not - they are still great for inspiration and I have to admit the fish bowl one is my fav...Thank you for sharing such a fabulous range of posts and die offerings over the past year and can't wait to see what the new year brings us....Wishing you and the team a happy and healthy new year....

I certainly have off days. Or is it "off" cards. Anyway, it happens. I have learned to put the "not so perfect" card away for awhile and then go back to it, sometimes months later. Most of the time, it looks better to me at the later date than when I made it. I have decided the difference between what looks good to me and what disappoints me about one of my designed cards is when the card design does not come out as I had it in my mind. Really nothing wrong with the card. It just did not come together like I thought it should come out. My favorite of your orphaned cards today is the "You're Amazing" card. Now why did that one become an orphan?

Sue i think we all make a card and then are not happy with it when finished but
i have say all of your orphan card are gorgeous. My favourite is the last one with the smile sentiment.

I would like to wish you and your family a happy, healthy and very crafty new year.
Thank you for all of the wonderful inspiration over the last 12 months and certainly looking forward to the next 12 months.

The cards are orphans I'd be happy to find a home for! At least you have kept them to share with us and I'm sure we can still find lots in them to get inspired by.

Hello Sue
I have been waiting all week for your orphan cards to appear and you haven't disappointed there are elements in everyone and it makes us feel better about ourselves knowing you can produce cards that are not quite perfect.
Rosemary lovely to see you back.Donita extra special huggles and extra chocolate.
To Sue and all the wonderful wilsonettes a happy, healthy and crafty new year

Hmm.The orphaned card collection. I can see why all but number four would be classified by you, Sue, as not worthy. If I made any of them, I would be proud but your standards and abilities are much higher. As many have said previously, most could be "repaired" in some small way or perked up with a change of colors. We have a hard time finding fault with any of your cards.
Happy New Year to everyone here. We will wish for a better 2018. Donita, chocolate is comforting. Elaine cheers to Andrew, clink his orange juice from us.
Hugs,

I would also be happy to give these Orphans a home. I am sure we all have orphan cards at sometime or other. I do like the butterfly and Smile cards. Thank you for shar8ng these with us and I wish you a very Happy 2018. June so glad you have enjoyed the last few days with your family. I am sure the house will be quiet tomorrow morning. Met up with No. 2 son and family yesterday at a National Trust property. Was lovely to see them. I didn’t like going home to an empty house though. Hope you get your op very soon Pam and 2018 will be a better year for you. Elaine I hope you and your family have a better year next year and Andrew will be a lot better. Thinking of absent friends and remembering Tracy’s family. Happy and Healthy New Year to all.

Hi Sue, sorry I am so late but I have been tucked up on the sofa for most of the day drinking Lem-Sip and sleeping. I am sorry but card no.1 does nothing for me but I love Nos. 2,4,5 & 6. I think no.3 just needs something to lift it a little. Having said that, I wish some of my cards looked as good as your orphans.

Donita - sending you hugs for now but will mail you when I am feeling more human.

As the witching hour is fast approaching I will wish everyone a very happy, peaceful, healthy, prosperous and crafty New Year. I will raise my virtual glass to everyone especially Tracy's family.

Happy new year to everyone l like the second one with the butterfly the best. Although all have something appealing to them even if the finished card may be a bit off. Laura O Springfield

Good morning and a Happy New Year to you and your Blog Followers, Sue.
Can hardly believe a year has passed since we last saw a batch of orphan cards!
It would be very strange if we all liked the same style or colour of cards and I can only say there is not one I dislike although I might have changed a message or two or put something bobbing on the ocean that we could see through the porthole!!
It is time to go to bed so I send all my Good wishes for 2018 to you all!

If I only had just six cards in a year that I wasn't entirely happy with I would be ecstatic. These little dears have plenty of fans on the blog. My favourite is the Smile card.

My very best wishes to you, Sue, your family and to all the Wilsonettes for a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year. Elaine, special thoughts to Andrew hoping that 2018 brings better health. Donita, sending you a big bar of virtual chocolate.

Take care everyone.

All lovely cards. It’s strange though as I can look at some of my cards and not be happy with them and someone will want a card at short notice and go through my box and sat it’s “one of your best”
We all have different tastes and look at things differently
Happy New Year to everyone. Hope 2018 is a good one for you all
Luv

HAPPY NEW YEAR Sue ans all the Wilsonettes.
I do wish that I knew how to change 'settings' (If that is the problem) as I never get these postings until the day after . Better the day after than not at all. I have so enjoyed being a member of this blog as it's the first thing I look for when I log in to my PC.
I would feel proud to have made any of your orphan cards and I'm sure that they would all be able to find a forever home if you put them up for auction (LOL)
My eldest Daughter lives in Wisconsin and she called me on Skype just before midnight so we sort of welcomed the New Year in together. We do chat every day at 12.30 p.m. my time which is 6.30a.m. her time. I do appreciate it because she is often the only person I speak to in the day.
My Great Granddaughter who was due on Dec 29th. has not arrived yet so perhaps she will be a New Year baby..
I send hugs to all who need them and to those who think they don't need them too.
Bye for now.

Hi Sue,
No. 2 is stunning (in my mind) and all the others don't deserve to be called orphans (also in my mind) as they are lovely. Apart from one and that is the technique more than the card - I could never warm to it when I did it so I've stopped doing it. That's where you colour only one or two areas, be it flowers, leaves etc....
But you know what they say......... one man's meat is another man's poison...........
Hugs, Rose
