Thinking Of You

Good Sunday morning all!  I have a little bit of a story to go with this card.  I was taking a gym class one morning and the gal next to me had this bright coloured beach towel over her mat in her space.  It really caught my eye.  I asked her if I could take a picture of it to use as inspiration, which led to a conversation about what I do (always so difficult to explain to a noncrafter!) LOL   Well by the time I got my phone out to snap the pic, class was starting so it was taken hurriedly and  a bit on the blurry side, but you can see it at the end of the post.  To create this card, I sectioned off a piece of coconut white card with some copy paper.  On the lower half, I used Spiced Marmalade and Mustard Seed Distress inks to build up a bright sunset look on the lake.  I used the side edge of the pad to add some water lines.   I switched the copy paper around to cover the bottom portion and expose the top area.  I used Seedless Preserves and Dusty Concord.  I cut the Palm trees in black from the Island Paradise set and glued just the tops around the top of the card. I stamped my sentiment in the lower corner.  Lastly I added some sailboats.  I used the small one from the Little Treasures die set and the larger one from the Nautical Accessories.  I cut them all in black for a silhouette look.  I completed the card with white and black mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 7" x  8" in size.

Here is the towel that I took my inspiration from for this card!  I was quite chuffed with how it came out, considering what I had to work with!

Beautiful card Sue. Love the colours ad the holiday theme and the little story too.
Congratulations to comment game winners
Elaine, I hope Andrew enjoyed the Speedway without any trouble. I was glad to hear Mary has started to improve, strong willed lady.
Rosemary, thinking of you. Hope you are coping well.
Sharon, how are things with you, thinking of you also.
CraftySue, how quickly you have adjusted, 2 good nights sleep and you sounded a different woman, I'm very happy to say. All that pressure and unpleasantness gone. Where do you live Sue, you said down the coast. We did have bad weather yesterday, rain and cloud but it got out lovely later in the afternoon with light showers. Didn't go to the Airshow, hoped to see them going down the flight path but no luck.
Carmen, sounds like most if you had a good lunch with the Kid. It will be lovely for him and his girlfriend to go home, even better for them to become engaged. I love happy endings and all seems to be coming right for this remarkable young man.
Thank you all for your support, our building is due to close in 2021 as are all the local offices as they are moving the work into regional centres, our nearest one is Longbenton, other side of Newcastle, far too far for the majority of my colleagues to move to. I wouldn't get any extra leaving then than I would get now, I just really like working and being with my colleagues, guess I don't want to admit I'm getting old, I really don't feel 69, or at least I didn't until recently. I had hoped for maybe another year but who knows. I really don't think anyone higher up the chain cares, they will know. Funny thing is not one of the Seniior Management Team have left, it's as if it has all been orchestrated.
Daily hugs to all, especially our poorly and missing friends. Laine and Yvonne, hope all going well fir you both.

Pam, you could be right about your situation being orchestrated. If everyone leaves of their own accord then there won't be any payouts when the office move takes place.

Morning Sue. Why am I sitting here open mouthed at today's sample when I already know what an amazing artist you are. To think that from a beach towel came this gorgeous work of art. You must have looked at it and thought 'I have dies that match that design' bet you can't remember the exercises you did that day as your head was full of the coloured inks you could use to create this amazing art work, did it feel it was the longest class you've ever done (hope you didn't break the speed limit to get home to your craft room) ?!! ☺
It's beautiful it's restful, it's one of those moments captured when you suddenly look out of the window and it looks likes the sky is on fire ! I don't know what else to say about this apart from you're sooo clever.
Well done comment game winners, enjoy your gift.
Wishing you a day of happiness and sunshine Sue plus love n hugs xxx

Dear Sue,

Your creativity finds inspiration even in the most ordinary of places, and then your talent takes over to render it so beautifully!

And then your generosity expresses itself when you give it to us!

Thank you Carmen for telling the lunch story. You're a good writer.

Rosemary, you go, girl!

Pam, I'm glad you like working. Me too. Never a dull moment, except for the occasional dull moment. And if it weren't for work, where would we get the raw materials for one of life's greatest satisfactions, complaining!

Congratulations to Chris Curry, Fluffy Cat and Sharon Casey.

Echoing Stephanie Cotterill's last line.

Pam, it definitely sounds as though the bosses are trying to get people to leave before they have to do any payouts. I'd say hang in there, but not at the expense of your health and happiness. I like working too, and this is the first time I haven't had a job since I was 13!
Carmen, it sounds as though you all had a wonderful lunch. Hugs to all. Sue xxx

Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, gosh what a fantastic inspiration the ladies towel was and you have captured it so well in your creation, this is a true vision of how clever you are, thank you so much for sharing this with us. Although how you get the time to go to the gym as well as everything else you do is beyond me.

Pam I reiterate all you have said above. I am also in agreement that your work situation has been orchestrated, I had thought that for a long time and Dragonsnap hit the nail on the head because if you all leave they will not have to pay out compensation. I know what you mean about liking to go to work, I must say I still (after 10 years) still miss the atmosphere and friendship I had from all my work colleagues, the challenges of every day life in the work place so completely different from being retired. I think that is why I took up crafting it is a much easier thing to do, don't have to travel up to London every day in the rush hours, oh those were bad days.

Congratulations to all the winners.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

The rate things are going I'll be carried out the shop in a box!! lol I've to work till I'm 68 but can go at 65 on my works pension. However if I can go before that I'm off!!!
LOL. I would miss my colleagues dearly as they are part of my life too but I'd still pop in to keep in touch.

Hi Sue
What a great card and a fabulous story behind it. Now I'm amazed you have the time to go to the gym as you have such a busy schedule but I can see you looking just as elegant at the end of the session as you did at the beginning! You are just that kind of person - me I would be the limp lettuce leaf collapsed in the corner! Haha. Now I wonder if this card will pay a visit to the gym with you so you can show the towel owner where the photograph led, you never know you might inspire another lady on the downward slippery slope of craft! Thank you for sharing the card and story, it's nice to know how inspiration strikes.
Love Diane G xxx
Congratulations to all the lucky winners xxx
Pam I think you've found the reason for the lack of care in your offices. Yes the management are all holding out for their big bonuses, would you really expect to carry on another 4 years to get the money, I would just go now and enjoy yourself rather than putting up with the hassle. Yes you will miss the routine but I think you will find the friends will stay in touch and a good natter over a relaxed coffee is better than a quick 5 minutes in the loo! I went to a meal on Friday with a friend from the school I worked at, and met so many old friends and caught up with all the news, they are a lovely bunch. The good thing is my lovely friend is now leaving school so hopefully we can catch up with each other more often and craft together. Echoing your comments again today, you say it so well xxx

Carmen - glad the lunch went well and I found that in any office there was always going to be a grump that doesn't want to join in. It is their loss and you can enjoy yourselves without them. The Kid's attitude is amazing and I think he will go far. An engagement would be good news.

I think you did a fab job on this scene card. We crafters do not "see" things as those who do not craft. Inspiration is everywhere if only we "look". You did one better by following through on your inspiration. You inspire me everyday with your lovely art. This fall I will be showing a group of ladies how to "layer" a card per their request. Most of them have never made a card larger than an A2 card. There are a number of us demonstrating techniques that day, so actual crafting time will be limited. I have chosen your Seville Background die to do so. I love this die set. I have been busy die cutting "layers" so these ladies can quickly put together this card and can actually leave the workshop with a finished card. I'll let you know how it goes.

Pam, I'm sure like others have said that the hierarchy are hoping that people leave so that they don't have redundancy payments to make. That, if it's true, is despicable! I think you should just join the retirement gang! I used to love teaching but it got to the point when I was 57 that I decided that after 36 years, I'd had enough! It was just after I had my knee replacement done and discovered that there was more to life than teaching! I have to say that was 5 years ago and (apart from falling over a couple of times and well and truly messing up my knee replacement ) I've never regretted it. Yes, I did miss my friends and some of the students, but I still keep in touch with my closest friends and meet up regularly for coffee etc. I'm sure you will do what is right for you. Love and hugs Alison xxxx

Hello Suel
Gorgeous vibrant card today, and the inspiration was inspired!!!
Pam, I live only 5 or 10 minute's car ride from the offices at Longbenton, you could live here during the week and go home at weekends, that would put the cat among the pigeons in your office!!!
Sharon, glad you're feeling much better and congratulations on being a comment winner.
Rosemary, fingers crossed for you for tomorrow.
Fluffycat, don't be embarrassed at winning again - we don't mind - MUCH ha ha.
Congratulations on your win Chris.
Congratulations to the Wednesday card winner yesterday.
love to all
Maureen xx

This card looks like a scene I might see up my street (I live right along Lk.Erie). We get some beautiful sunsets along the southern shores of our lake. You picked the exact colors that run across our horizon at sunset. Such a beautiful card, you should make a whole set of them. They would be great for wall hangings also. Nicely done!!!

Hi Sue. I have only just realised I have forgotten to comment to today's post. I opened my emails and saw there was a YouTube post on Silhouette Moonlit Forest Card and got completely distracted watching that and then several other posts afterwards. You have certainly managed to capture the image on the towel with this card, such wonderful colours.

Hi Sue,
Wow! So beautiful! Love, love, love this sunset on the lake. This card reminds me of those Caribbean evenings spent on the beach waiting for the sunset. At the fist glance I thought that you stamped the sailboats and the palm trees. I mentioned many times that black is not what I intend to use on my cards, but black is perfect for this one. Love that you stamped the sentiment on the card, love the way you arranged the tops of the palm trees... (Even my hubby loves this card!).Thank you for sharing your story. I am really interested to know where you find your inspiration. My inspiration is always the receiver, first of all. I am making cards for family and friends only that why I cannot send a card to somebody that has nothing in common with that person.

Congratulations to the winners of this week's Comment Game: Chris Curry, Fluffy Cat &Sharon Casey!!!

Rosemary – Thinking of you tomorrow. Hope everything will go well.
Pam – Wish you to get the year that you hope for, without more work and stress. Hopefully the situation will calm down soon and whoever is left, including you, will have a professional work environment. Am I dreaming?

Dear friends – The engagement will be the next step in my vision. The time will tell.

Donita – Good writer? Me? I took it as a good joke, and I laughed. If you remember, or maybe you missed that comment, English is not my first language and also, it is not an easy language to learn at a certain age, but I do my best. This blog means a lot to me: learn from Sue and others how to make cards and improve my English. I am a winner every day, thanks to you all.

In this note,
Have a great Monday & Let's hope for good news only,
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only Canadian Wilsonette

Good morning Sue and all.
It's Monday morning here in Lancashire U.K. I don't seem to get the posts from you on the day they are posted. I don't really have time to read all comments although I do try and am beginning to look for specific commentors . At 86 years of age I think it's really too late to be moving house despite the good reasons for doing so. I had my first viewers yesterday so I do wonder how long I will have to keep the house tidy LOL.
Your card is beautiful Sue as they all are. Congratulations to the recent winners.
Love to all. Marie
