Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hello there my crafty friends!  This is the card that I demoed on my very first Hochanda show.  I was on Youtube one day and came across a video called Northern Lights card that was done by a gal named Debbie Henderson.  Having just been to Norway and seen the northern lights, it piqued my interest so I decided to watch it.  It was a lovely video and while she did her card with Distress inks and stamps,  I couldn't help but wonder what it would look like done with Creative Expression Colour Cloud inks and my dies instead.  This is the result which I was tickled to bits with (thank you Debbie!)  I started with a piece of coconut white card and, using smoothies, inked it in slanted stripes with Chic Aubergine, Scarlet Woman, Baked Peach, Decadent Teal and Chic Moss Colour Cloud inks.  I tore a piece of card to use as a mask for the hills, then inked with Smudged Charcoal.  I went over the edges with Black Soot distress ink to darken the hills and give some contrast.  I inked the sky with Decadent Denim and pulled in streaks to soften the Northern Lights colours.  Finally I went around the edges a bit more with Black Soot.  I dotted the sky with a white gel pen to create the stars.  Using several sizes of my Winter trees, I added a forest line on either side of the hill, leaving a small gap for my sentiment die.  I cut the Merry Christmas die in both black and white, cutting away the snowflakes then offsetting them, using the black one on top.

If you would like to be entered into the drawing for this card, please leave me a comment.  I do need to say, however, that the pictures shown here are of the original card made.  However, I took it to Ally Pally to display on my demo table and ended up accidentally damaging it while I was demoing (a smoothie filled with ink bounced onto the card)  so the card that will be sent out will be the actual card made during the Hochanda demo and it may be slightly different to the pictures shown here.   All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue. I saw you make this card both on Hochanda and also at Ally Pally. It truly is a stunning technique and as you have shown it is easier to achieve the look than it would at first appear. Thank you

Hello everyone. Sue, I loved this card when I saw your demonstration on Hochanda. Definitely one to practice myself; so different to your more flowery cards.

Hi Sue
I have been waiting to see this card on your blog since you did the demo on your show which i was amazed by, and also my husband which never happens regarding craft.Out of all your cards you have ever done Sue this card is Absolutely Stunning you should be very proud of it. I have watched the Northern Lights every since i was a little girl on my parents farm which living in the heart of the highlands you see the Northern lights much better than in the city as there are no light pollution and what i see with them is what you have created with this card, it's truly like watching the lights dance in the sky . You have brought the Northern Light alive in your card Sue.
I truly love and adore this card.Thank you for sharing it with us all
Take care

Hello Sue,

I love this card and have been waiting for you to add it to your blog, I saw it at AP (but didn't take a picture) BUT did buy all the colours you were using. SO NOW I can put them to good use. This will be a fun technique to try with the grandchildren - who are on half term next week, thank you, that's another few hours allocated xxx

Hope everyone is feeling fit and well,
Love Brenda xxx

Hi Sue, the card is gorgeous the way you done the sky looks so pretty. I did watch you demo this card it's lovely.xxxXxxx

Thank you all for the wishes for today. Well he had the tests an they were not as good as they were hoping for I didn't really understand a lot of what they were so the surgeon broke it down into numbers he said each level they would of liked to have seen least 50 an Francis was only on 25 for most of them, went on to say it meant he would be of a high risk making it,mfrancis asked if he could maybe have little more time to try an build up some more before they did the op an the surgeon said it would take at least 6 months to even go up a few points an said Francis does not have 6 months left. So Tuesday we go to see the main surgeon who will tell us if he is willing to go ahead with the operation an yonder if Francis wants to do it. They said it's around a 9 hour operation an if pulled through it they wouldn't try bringing him round for 5 to 7 days. I am unsure right now what he is going to do, I can't really believe it's all happening he is 51 years old. Anyway again thank you all for the ongoing support. xXx

Molly not a word to th girls sweetheart let's wait an see what Tuesday brings xxx

What a unique card. The colours are beautiful. It has the feel of Northern lights. Of course your trees pull the screen together. I love the trees in front and back of the hill. Gorgeous card!

There is absolutely NO END to your talents!! You made the sky look SO REAL!!! BRAVO!!!
I would love to know how you did it. Of course you make everything look so easy, but for me it is much more difficult.

Thanks always for your BEAUTIFUL cards and for sharing your inspiration with your fans!

Hello Sue,

This is a wonderful card. Stunning colour scheme!
I have never seen the northern lights in real life,
even though I live close to Norway (I live in Denmark).
I just may take a trip up there.

Very pretty card. Love the northern lights--how I would love to see them in person. I purchased the tree die and making my Christmas cards. My card this years again, is very intricate. Why I don this every year, I don't know. However, they are pretty.
