Paper Pieced Striplet

Hello bloggers!  We are showcasing the Butterflies in Flight mini striplet today.  I have used a paper piecing technique to add colour to the striplet and given it some extra shine as well.

The winner of this week's Wednesday Card Giveaway is:

Dorothy MacDonald!!!

Congratulations!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prize!

The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue. Beautiful card and a great video, I love being able to craft along with you.
Congratulations on your win Dorothy. Melody, I hope you managed to get some sleep whilst Francis spent time with his sister. I can't remember who recommended the adult colouring books for helping with insomnia, I agree they are great. I also use sudoku to help me nod off - I try to do a very difficult one where I have to concentrate so hard that everything else just falls out of my brain! Happy weekend to all. Sue XXX

Hi Sue.
Congratulations Dorothy on your Wednesday win - enjoy like so many before you have.

Such a delicate, beautiful card today. I have seen the most beautiful card using this die and it really took my breath away, it was so impressive.
I also enjoy the fill in technique and have used it on many a striplet die, I wonder if the stainless glass method would also work with this lovely little die ?
Well, whatever your plans for the day Sue, have a good one.

Good morning Sue and friends,
Well Sue another beautiful card this morning, I do love that striplet die, I think it maybe at the top of my list! The colours you have used make the card a WoW card ! Thank you for the inspiration x
My goodness how lovely it was to meet so many blog friends yesterday as our Cotswold Crafter weekend retreat began, the laughter was almost instant, I have to say that bearing in mind that so many of us had never actually met 'in the flesh' it was actually like a coming together of old friends, everyone instantly bonded and the laughter just got louder and louder to the point of some of us ending up crying with laughter! So today we have a whole day of crafting and no doubt plenty of laughter! To think that it all started right here, many many months ago we were all just strangers leaving posts for Sue everyday, it has turned into us all making lifetime friends, friends that have made my life a much brighter place! So thank you Sue, for providing the blog that we all met up on and thank you ladies for your amazing friendship, love and support!
Have a lovely day everyone,
Love and hugs

I like the paper piercing and lacquering techniques to complete the butterflies. I had only thought of cutting the extras and adding below. I don't have this die but it set me wondering about using the methods on one of the others that I do have. Thanks for that idea.

Tracey S: I don't know if this would help with the sleeplessness you are suffering from. I have recently been prescribed with the sort of anti histamine tablets that warn not not to drink and drive because they can make you drowsy. I live on a main road and have a prison style searchlight facing my bedroom window so don't sleep well these days. A side effect of taking the tablets last thing at night has been almost immediate dropping off for the last two weeks. Worth a punt if it doesn't interfere with any medication. Add with a glass of wine!!!!!!!!

Hello sue and everyone today's card is very pretty blue is my favourite colour an I think it looks good with the little bit of black round it. I no nan as been letting you no about grandad it's very sad but he is going to try an get better enough to have an operation to help him we ain't allowed to go down to there house because 1 of the girls always got a cold soon as 1 gets better the next 1 gets it. i wanted to have half term down there but I couldn't so maybe next weekend. I am sorry if I made trouble I never meant to I don't need to win prizes an I don't have to be put in any draws I just like seeing all the cards an reading what everyone says. I am going to be 13 on my birthday an I asked nan if I could have the money to buy shares in the new Hochanda craft channel. My dad told me I might loose the money an I most likely never get anything back but nan said if that's what I want then she would do it but grandad gave nan 200 so nan brought me the shares with it I don't no why but she couldn't buy £200 worth she had to but 2 lots of £96 pounds so I am really happy I don't no how many shares I have yet nan says when they take the money next week we will be sent what we got. An I have a badge an a Hochanda craft box an free membership for a few months. Grandad said 1 day I might earn a little bit of money I just happy to be a part of the new craft channel. My friends at school say I am stupid I should of had the money to spend but I don't care I got what I asked for an nan will still buy me a gift she said the shares are extra from grandad because it's a special birthday because I will be a teenager. Thank you everyone I am happy to be back oxoxox

Hi Sue

Did I let slip when I commented recently that I brought some dies that the butterfly striplet was one? No? Well, as you might be able to tell, I'm pretty chuffed to see a video starring my lovely new little butterflies! Blue white and black look pretty great too and I shall watch later when Mr. W is in bed.

Molly, welcome back honey! You didn't make any trouble, only the idiots on facebook did that! Late but happy 13th birthday wishes- and what a sensible present. Considering what the owners of Hochanda sold Ideal World for (it was a lot of millions) you have as much chance of a return as any other investment. Even if you don't, what a chance it is to say you had a part in making the channel! And how many 13 year olds own shares? I think it's very grown up and the other kids are a bit jealous of that!
Little children and germs go together I'm afraid, that's a certainty!
Lovely to have you back, hugs to you, Nanna & Grandad x

Tracy, hugs x So nice you have a good friend to help you through and glad the medicinal grape juice did it's job!

Lorraine F, hope you're feeling better today x

Afraid my back dictated that there would be no cards today. Spend most of the day laying on the sofa with a heatmat. Limited in crochet too as my wrist is injured so glad it was Saturday so I could indulge in my other love (football, at least my team didn't lose ay?! They didn't win either but hey ho...) later finalising online shopping list includes nice crafty things to make up for it though and can at least use the computer to design cutting files, inserts for cards etc so can't really get bored. Sleeping a lot again too so although unproductive I really can't get bored lol

Enjoy the rest of your weekend everyone. Hugs to all of you, extra hugs if your ill, in hospital, awaiting or having treatment. Big hugs to all the carers too,

T x

Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew,

I'm feeling the love for this card, the butterfly striplet is amazing, even though I've been prioritising the festive dies I couldn't resist buying it as well as the scribble flowers a couple of weeks ago and after seeing it in action I'm glad it sneaked into my basket:-)
I really like the colour scheme, the soft blue and white with a punch of black is inspired. The lacquered butterflies are a lovely touch and I will so enjoy watching the demo and a master at work later.
Apologies for missing yesterday's post, I was cream crackered after two hospital appointments yesterday and had an early night after watching the gymnastics and my soaps...a daily addiction I'm afraid!
Happy Halloween though sweeties, I look like I'm wearing a permanent scary mask at the moment, I tried a new anti ageing face cream with retinol in it and it reacted with my skin causing huge red burn like patches that are now peeling like sunburn...that'll teach me for being so vain:-) So, since I'm confined to the house in case I frighten small children and animals, I took the opportunity to do a bit of Christmas crafting. Feeling brave I reached for the texture paste and followed Sues tips by the letter and shock! Horror! I didn't come a cropper. I tried the wavy mask with silver sparkle then polar white to create the same design in different colour tones and it worked a treat. Feeling confidant I then tried the snowflake mask- the only problem was the card bending slightly and I'm wondering if I should place it between some books to flatten when it dries, or will that crush the raised effect from the texture paste? I prepared the other elements for the card so now I have four cards in production, effectively doubling the number I will have made! All going well with the drying process and I'll finish them off tomorrow...took the necessary precaution of keeping the craftroom door closed and putting them out of reach of Brodies inquisitive paws though he wasn't impressed at being excluded.
Jackie&Sandra, I am so jealous of your crafty retreat, plenty of wine , crafting and hilarity is my idea of heaven- it is wonderful that strangers have been brought together by a joint obsession with the magnificent Sue, hope you are enjoying yourself girls!
Tracey, decisions, decisions, should insomnia be treated with a) colouring in, or b) a bottle of wine? What a dilemma! Whatever you choose, hope it worksxx
Yvonne, it appears that you feel I am either a certifiable fruit loop or unable to distinguish between a dog and a cat, or both! I do concede that Brodie has had an identity crisis since he was a kitten, he looks like a cat but behaves like a dog. As a parent you blame yourself for their confusion and admittedly, if there were social services for animals Brodie and Darcey would be on the at risk register, isn't it a good job that I never pro created?
You are my spiritual twin honey, I too must admit to a nail varnish fetish, I have over 150, mainly OPI, bottles that I don't even use because I have acrylic overlays and a gel topcoat! It makes no sense to a sane individual, but as we have established I'm a touch batty!
I really like your idea about colouring- I've been keeping myself distracted by cross stitching and Cardmaking but I should really start using my Spectrum noir pens and pencils and channel my inner child again.
Your firework display has me excited and disturbed in equal measure, it's beginning to sound as if it's on a grander scale than London at the Millenium. Like the northern lights it may be seen as far away as Norway, maybe you should contact NASA for clearance?
Molly honey, welcome back, we have missed you so much. You are a valuable member of our little community and we love to hear from you. What an ingenious birthday gift, buying shares could be a wise investment, it's not silly but smartxxx
Peachy bum time, off to watch Strictly. Sweet dreams everyone.

Evening Sue
Wow - absolutely beautiful. You just can't go wrong with a striplet!! I have yet to watch this and a few videos from the past couple of weeks and have decided to make an afternoon of it some time this week and have a Sue fest.
It has been a lovely day today with blue skies, sun and washing on the line. The boys beavered away tidying sorting and constructing firework launching contraptions!! I sat and watched, pointed and offered advice which was mostly ignored! I sat out in the garden for a while and it was very refreshing and made a change from my usual reclined position inside.
Congratulations Dorothy on your win x
TRACY - I love colouring but friends and wine are a good alternative to aid relaxation. After all wine is made from fruit so that makes it one of your five a day doesn't it? x
SANDRA - I remember you talking about your retreat when we met at Ally Pally. No point in saying I hope you are having a lovely time as it is obvious from your comment that all is going swimmingly. Enjoy yourself lovely lady x
MOLLY - welcome back sweetheart - you have been missed. You have caused no trouble and you are as entitled to win as anyone else. I think your enterprising idea to buy some shares in Hochanda is genius. You are clever. I will look forward to reading all your lovely comments again x
LORRAINE - I think we could have been separated at birth. We seem to have the same likes and ideas, with the exception of how to look after cats!! Lol. I do use my polishes as my nails are genuinely mine so I suppose that means my large collection is slighty more justified than yours.
I came to the conclusion a long time ago that my inner child is a lot nearer the surface than I care to admit. It does not take much for me to revert to 'silly little girl' mode, (much to the disgust of my boys). Do I care what they think - absolutely not.
If you are feeling excited and disturbed about our little firework soiree just imagine the emotions that are at work in my world!! Jake is like an over excited child who knows that their greatest wish is going to come true. When Steve was alive he used to go completely over the top and Jake is so like his dad. Jake also loves making others happy and enjoys it when we have friends and family round. Both the boys are incredibly sociable and for that I am so grateful and proud. I am sure that despite my 'concerns' it is going to be a great evening in the company of wonderful people having a fantastic time.
I am going to get my peachy bum fix tomorrow. Strictly and Casualty are on the menu during the day and then Downton in the evening.
Well done on your Christmas card progress x
It is George's girlfriends 18th birthday on Tuesday so I need to make her card - not difficult. Female cards are not the problem x
Bedtime for me now. Lots of love to everone.
Nite nite
Crafty hugs

Greetings Sue & WW!
What a lovely card! When I first saw this striplet die , I immediately liked it- but since I have so many butterfly dies (of course purchased prior to learning of you Sue), I decided I could do without this one. Then you go and tempt me with such beautiful creations! On to my wish list it goes! In the meantime, maybe I can do some paper piercing with another striplet. They are so versatile - especially when you show us with fabulous videos! Many thanks :)
Congrats Dorothy M! What fun for you! I'm sure it will be a thrill to receive it and see it "live & in person"!
Tracy S - glad you got some sleep! Also glad for your lovely friend - she can offer you hugs in the flesh that we can only offer virtually (but that won't stop me from sending virtual ones :)!
Sandra - your weekend sounds like a blast! What fun for everyone!
Marg- my Heraldic should be on its way to me - I'm so eager to get it - it's so beautiful!
Jane F - are you excited or nervous about your upcoming market? Maybe a little of both? I'm sure it's quite a bit of work preparing - but hopefully you will have some fun with it too! Best of luck with it! I saw your post - I know you haven't forgotten me and I'm not in any rush at all. No worries!
Lorraine F - your day with your sister sounds like just the ticket! Your lunch sounds wonderful! Nothing wrong with splurging every now and again! My problem is I want to have the naughty stuff all the time and only occasionally throw in a little healthy lol.
Suzzette Y - If you can't find it in the US, as one of the lovely ladies on this blog told me a while back, you can click on the Joanna Sheen link at the top of this blog. Shipping is free with purchases over 9.99 £. She has a huge selection (way better than I've found in the US) and her prices are quite good (even with the conversion rate). In fact, it's too bad whichever Wilsonette told me about it doesn't get royalties off my purchases! Dragonswing, you should check out Joanna Sheen too!
Hope you feel better Linda N!
Oops going to have to split this one...

Molly! I did a little happy dance when I saw you had posted! Welcome back and happy early birthday! What a smart girl you are to ask for a birthday gift that is an investment in the future & something you care about! How wonderful of your sweet Grandad to give you that special gift for a special birthday! I'm sorry you and your sisters aren't able to visit him right now, but I understand he needs to stay away from anyone sick while he works on getting stronger. So glad you are back!
Wheely Bad- sorry ur not feeling up to working on your Christmas cards today as you had hoped :(
Happy Halloween to you too Laine, but really, you didn't have to go to such lengths for a costume! Yikes! That sounds rather painful- hopefully it will heal quickly! Good for you - diving into the texture paste despite your aversion to messy! Was it fun? It looks like a lot of fun to me. I wanted to order some, but Joanna Sheen only ships it to the UK. Wise woman for closing the craft room door this time! Wouldn't want Brodie trying to clean that off his paws! Hey I was thing Creative Expressions could enter the pet toy market with their smoothies. Brodie has already provided some market testing for them :) I too seem to have an obsession with nail polishes- but not on par with you & Yvonne as I only have about 60 bottles (fortunately they are good quality so they do last). Oddly though, the whole summer slipped by without me using any - and I usually hate going around with naked toes. Too busy I guess.
Well as usual, I'm posting very late. Many of you are hopefully sleeping peacefully as I type. Here in Colorado, it's only 7pm and we have little ghosts & goblins ringing our doorbells asking for treats. Actually, haven't seen a ghost or goblin yet, but have had a few little witches, a Batman, a bumble bee, a gypsy, characters from Frozen (am I the only one who hasn't seen that movie yet?), a zombie cheerleader and various other assorted characters. Always a treat for me to see the little ones! Oh - didn't get to comment on yesterday's...card 2 was my fave and, uhm, well, I haven't started on Christmas cards yet (insert embarrassed grin here).
