Christmas Double Days

Hello crafters!   The first card is a pretty traditional Christmas card done in a soft silver and white theme.  I started by embossing a piece of silver card with the Let It Snow embossing folder.  I cut three of the Christmas Greetings Tree in white and used spray glue to stack them all together.  I glued them to the embossed background, then cut a frame from the Ornate Pierced Rectangle Noble die set to fit around it.  I added a second outer frame to give it a bit of a detailed edge to the frame.  I added mounting foam to the frame and attached it over the tree, trimming away any excess card from the background.  I added small 3mm white pearls to the embossed snowflake centres behind the tree.  I used the Filigree Poinsettia die set to create several flowers in silver and added them in opposite corners of the card as accents. I used 8mm white pearls for the flower centres.   I finished the card by adding a white pierced mat, a thin silver mat and another white mat layer.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  8" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two is more of an unusual colour combo for Christmas with it's navy blue and gold theme, but I think it works a treat.  I started by embossing a piece of French Navy card with the Star Swirls embossing folder.  I cut it in half and rubbed Enchanted gold gilding wax to half of it.  I then sprayed that piece with spray adhesive and coated it with Diamond Sprinkles glitter.  I cut both pieces into small squares and added mounting foam to their backs.  I arranged them on to another piece of gold card, leaving a small gap between them.  For the focal element, I cut the Lattice Snowflake die in French Navy card.  I backed it with gold card and added a frame over it cut from gold card as well.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it with the centre oval and raised it with foam and added it to the centre of the Lattice snowflake die.  I attached it in the centre of the card.  I used milk card for the base and paper pierced the first mat, added a thin gold and blue mat and a final milk mat layer to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.  How are your Christmas cards coming along??  All for now, Sue x

Good Morning, Sue,
Hi all Wilsonettes, I hope your morning is brighter where you are. Down here in Truro it's dull, damp and cold so I'm in the middle of making a huge pot of home made soup to warm me up later :).
Sue, the first card is so elegant and beautiful. Anyone would be thrilled to receive a Christmas card as wonderful as this one.
The second is very unusual. It took me a while to realise that the blue was all cut from the same card, the sprinkles and gilding wax made it look like a completely different shade of blue...I love it. I love traditional cards but the more 'unusual' Christmas cards always get my attention and make me smile.
Thanks so much for sharing with us.

Hi Sue and the other crafters,

I like the two stunning cards, I have the tree die, though I do like to see your "takes" on the different ways you do them. Your second card is beautiful, I am going to try to do a similar card with the holly embossing board, as I do think that No. 2 card would be very suitable for the Men.

Re. Your question Sue about Christmas cards, am I the only one that has not started. Over the last few weeks, my hands have got shakier than ever, (MS) and trying hard to get all my orders done for birthdays between now and Christmas, then I can do all my Christmas cards at once. (Hopefully)..

Gorgeous holiday cards, Sue; love the first one and all of it's elegance. Really like white on white; esp. for the holidays. The 2nd card is nice and looks easier to make, quickly. Getting lots of holiday ideas from you; thanks!

Sorry so late, Sue, one of those days. Do love the Christmas doubles and will be very sorry when they end. Love them both, but perhaps number one edging in as favourite.
Melody - hope you benefit from your early night. Tracy, sleep well, too.
Lots of banter yesterday, just read the comments and had a good laugh.
Briefly seen John on H - lots of his little tips and they are selling the pierced squares and rectangles which I have and wouldn't want to be without for sure - and no, Sue, still haven't gotten around to Ccards, November soon and then the panic will start!
Seems as though there are some new die sets?? Will have to investigate.

both are great but i do love that blue/gold combo. it is not something i would have thought of putting together but it really works. i think the secret lies in the colour of gold as it is antiquey rather than in your face sparkly gold, hugs xx

Hi Sue,

Love number 1, just love the colours, all frosty! Like Steph, I saw #2 and thought "man card!" Did consider that instead of the snowflake lattice I'd use one of the oval Austria dies and a different stamp and embossing folder and... ideal male birthday card! I do like all manner of colours for Christmas so as is would be good too. Me, strated Christmas cards? Er, no. I hope to tomorrow but we'll see how that pans out!

Tracy, insomnia is awfully frustrating, be it for any reason. My old Dr used to tell me if I couldn't sleep after an hour, to get up and do something as eventually you'd wear yourself out and you wouldn't be going over things again and again. Maybe get yourself a colour therapy book for when you can't sleep- it's quieter than dies cracking away in a grand calibur! Whatever you do I hope you'll get some sleep soon, hugs xxx

Melody, hope you have a quiet nights sleep too, hugs to all xxx

Arwen, you're in "good" company... I've never been a good girl either! Hugs xxx

Lorraine F, hope better days are not far away, hugs xxx

June and anyone going to the NEC, have fun xxx

Marg, I'm good thanks. Slept all morning, watched John demonstrate this afternoon on Hochanda. Not a bad day! Hugs xxx

Teresa W, I'm learning... sure I'll soon be able to tell the difference between a neck induced tension headache and the beginnings of those migraines. Hugs xxx

Mr W has just gone to bed so I'm going to turn off the midsomer murder repeat and find something to watch for a bit then I'm going to try an early (for me) bedtime too and not get so into reading/ watching something/ crochet that I lose track of time!

Hugs to all, plenty extra if they're needed, wishing everyone a fabulous weekend,

T x

Love the first card Sue, so pretty. The design of the second one is lovely but the colours don't do it for me as a Christmas card. Pat x

Hi Sue, sorry I am so late, I popped by earlier but totally forgot to leave my comment. Two very different cards today, both are lovely but I have to say the first one is a favourite. In answer to your question - slowly! - every time I settle down to make my Christmas cards something seems to happen to distract/delay me. I am lucky enough to sell quite a lot of my cards (profit goes to a mixture of charities) so at Christmas I need to have a large selection for my 'regulars' before making more for myself. I really must knuckle down and get some more made so your inspiration is essential!

Wow they are both absolutely stunning.
I do love the christmas words tree die, it just looks so elegant and have used it on a few of my cards but I love
the frame around your card and also love the second card as it is so different to the usual christmas colours.
Definately love both of them equally.

Evening Sue
I love both of these cards for different reasons. They are both gorgeous. The first one is simply stunning and typically beautifully Christmas. Number 2 card is so striking and I feel could be adapted for any time of year for those oh so awkward manly cards which we all dread.
I don't make Christmas cards for myself to send anymore as I found that the postage got so expensive that I simply could not afford it. Since Steve died I make a donation to the British Heart Foundation every Christmas. I still make my mum's Christmas cards as she likes to boast about 'her daughters talent' when people make comments on how much they appreciate handmade cards.
Last year as I had very little money I made boxes of handmade greeting cards as gifts to family and close friends. They were over the moon and apparently it was the 'best pressie' they had ever had - which brings into question all the expensive presents they have received from me before when I was a wealthier woman - lol x
I know exactly what they meant as I love to receive gifts that you know have been thought about with so much love and care x
Homemade fudge is another favourite of many of my friends - including you Sue - LOL x
REBECCA - I have to say if you ever do have a dream like the one you described yesterday my advice would be to take extra care not to consume too much alcohol before bed!! Failing that seek help immediately x
TRACY - I feel your frustration. Insomnia is just the worst. I hope that you are able to find some way of resting so that you keep your strength up x
JACKIE - have a fabulous crafty weekend - sounds like heaven x
ARWEN - being good is no fun - being bad is better x
MELODY - I hope you have been able to enjoy the luxury of an early night and a good nights sleep. Sending love x
LAINE/THELMA/HYDE - oh my word - Giant Haystacks and Big Daddy - used to watch them on Saturday afternoons with my Grandad. I saw some old footage of them on the tv the other week and they did not appear to be as Big or Giant as I remember them! Can I point out that it was my friend that was in need of the tena lady yesterday - for once my pelvic floor held up to the pressure of all the hilarity.
Mr Hyde is most certainly a misunderstood individual. You on the other hand are not. I feel it is you that misunderstands the definition of the word cat. One would associate cat flaps and tinned cat food with such feline friends rather that leads, walks and Marks and Spencer prawns. Never mind hun - if we were all the same then this world would be so mundane. If every body was of sound mind and quiet like myself then where would we be?
Your nails sound fab. I have been sorting through my rather huge collection of nail polishes recently. I have had many of them for a number of years but they are still fine. When purchased I was in a position where I had far more money than sense and bought very overpriced polishes which do tend to last. I have over 100 - I know - completely ridiculous
Hope you are managing to find some distractions to get you through the darker evenings. I have been persevering with my colouring using my daylight lamp and it is very therapeutic.
Off to bed now. Tomorrow the boys are starting the preparation for our fireworks event next Saturday. I am keeping out of the way. On the agenda is constructing some sort of contraption which will help launch the huge rockets of which there are many. When he said a few fireworks I should have known better x
Lot of love to everyone
Crafty hugs

Hi Sue,
Your two offerings today are lovely, first one being my favourite. I really like the colouring and textures of the second card but it reminds me of a chocolate box - perhaps it looks different in "real" life though. Having seen some of your cards in real life I can state with complete confidence that they do exactly that - look even more beautiful.
Hugs, Rose
