Christmas Double Days

Hi bloggers!  I have two Christmas cards for you today that are both in blue tones, so a bit different than the usual fare.  I started this one by cutting a piece of coconut white card on the diagonal, then embossing it with the Let It Snow embossing folder for texture.  I cut a Snowflake Border in white and glued it to the embossed diagonal edge, then trimmed the edges of the border straight with the sides.  I added a white pearl strip along the glued edge as an embellishment.  I added some mounting foam to the back then attached it to a piece of blue dusk card to complete the lower half of the card.  I cut two of the Season's Greetings die, one in white and one in black.  I offset the black one behind the white one to act as a shadow and glued them to the lower portion of the card.  For the focal point on the top of the card, I cut the all the dies in the Snowflake die set in Blue Dusk, white and black and layered them up on top of each other.  I added a white pearl to the centre, then glued it to the top of the card.  I added small 3mm pearls to the centres of the snowflakes in the embossed background then completed the card with my usual pierced mat and other layers.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  9 1/4" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

I started this card by using the shaving foam technique to add a swirly blue background.  I used Stormy Sky distress ink reinkers on the shaving foam, swirled it, then dipped my card into it.  Once dry, I embossed it with the Frosty Swirls embossing folder so that the top of the card was on the negative side of the folder.  I then used Silver Moon Sparkle Texture Paste to grout the swirls.  I allowed it to dry for several hours before adding two snowflake borders to the top and bottom of the card edge.  I ran a strip of white pearls along both edges and added some flat back pearls to the snowflakes.  For the focal element, I cut the Peeking Snowflake in white using the larger outside cutting edge. I used the same die to cut an oval covered in sticky adhesive paper.  I glittered that piece with Silver Chrome polished silk glitter to use as a background for the focal element.  I cut several of the let it snow sentiment and stacked them and glued them to the centre of the die.  Finally, I added a white frame that was cut from the ovals in the Peeking die and the Lattice Snowflake die.  Two large pearls adorned the snowflakes and I glued the entire piece into the centre of the card.  I added a final pierced mat, a silver mat and another white mat to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 3/4" x  9" in size.  All for now, Sue x

His Sue. Two beautiful cards this morning and I can't choose a favourite as they are both so pretty in their own way. I love how you can use the foam technique, emboss then grout the embossed pattern. You wouldn't find a card with that kind of background even in the most expensive of shop's.
I must get round to making a batch of Christmas cards before it creeps up and starts nipping at my heels !
Thanks for your message Pam, I've been around.
Just watching one of the repeats of Johns flower workshop, the peonie stamp is gorgeous and finishes off the die perfectly, and my all time flower enhancement is the dandelion and I've been using the centre's for ages to add inside my die cut flowers and they look so pretty in fact I added several white sugared peonies with the little 'fairies' layered up inside to a wedding card a few weeks ago and they make up such pretty little flowers, it's such fun to play and mix and match our flowers dies, you can come up with so many variations.
That's enough of my countering, so I will wish Sam lots of love and luck for Monday and I shall be thinking of you so much.
Hope your Friday is a good one Sue.
Hugs.
Lancashire Steph xx

Hi Sue. Love the clean lines of the first card, I've been telling myself that I don't need anymore Christmas embossing folders but I think the snowflake one might just be a "necessary" now. But the opportunity to make a mess - shaving foam AND texture paste means that card no.2 just edges it for me today! Sue XXX

Warm thoughts and hugs to Melody Francis, Tracy, Lorraine F and Wheely.
You each have your own paths to tread in the coming weeks and months.
During my BC ops and treatments last year my sister had bought me a white wooden plaque to which she had added some butterflies.

These words kept me going through everything and I hope they will bring you some measure of comfort when darker days fall.

Good Morning, Sue,
I can't get over the depth the snowflake embossing folder gave you on the first card. It looked like you had stuck on loads of little flakes :). It's a beautiful card and anyone who gives it a try will be so proud when it comes out like yours :). The second card really got me sitting up and taking notice! I love the shaving foam background but never thought of trying it with distress re-inkers, I used alcohol ink when I had a play :). The grouting of the embossing folder really gives the card a beautiful sparkle. Two wonderful cards for us to enjoy.

Good evening lovely sue and her crafty crew!

Good Golly Gosh! What a splendid twosome, as gorgeous as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie! Don't even ask me to choose between them because they both use one of my favoured dies this year, the snowflake border...I've just used it myself this afternoon...and the techniques used on both are completely individual. The shaving foam technique in itself is stunning, but to then emboss AND grout it with texture paste is genius..I don't know that I have the balls to try this just yet, maybe I'll start off with the shaving foam first....note to self, I have to use my polished silk glitter soon because it looks lush as a background to your sentiment. The first card is equally impressive, there's not much I don't like about snowflakes...I have the entire set from this years release!...and I love how you have used the border like a diagonal or Gemini die. The EF is the perfect finishing touch along with the individual snowflake, I will definitely be trying this one soon.
I've had a very productive afternoon, I'm aiming to complete a card per day...when I don't have pesky appointments to keep that is...and so far I'm fairly whiz zing through them, with the help of your good self Sue! I felt really adventurous today, so I chose to base my card on one of your video demos that featured grouting with texture paste...yes! I've finally succumbed to its persuasive powers and put my OCD to one side for half an hour....and surprise surprise! It's not as messy as I'd feared. I didn't use a mask, instead I used a die cut of the snowflake background but I was beset with self criticism that I'd not done it to Sues standard and made a mess of it...and, god forbid, wasted a sheet of card! I left it to dry before placing it between two heavy books to flatten it, all the while wondering if I should have stuck to my trusty Iced Snow. I completed all the other elements and went back to check my 'botched' attempt a few hours later. Amazingly it looked not unlike Sues example, completely flat and sparkling subtly!??!Wonders will never cease! I'm waiting for a delayed delivery of the Wavy Mask from Amazon and I now feel confidant that I will have another go and make it more of a focal point like Sues Three Wise Men card from the other day. Crafting has the ability to give you a massive confidence boost when you achieve something to be proud of, and it can really pick up your mood when you are feeling low...vital at this time of year! By the way, Brodie was sleeping in my craftroom...he likes to join me when I'm being messy/creative..but he took exception to the spray glue and left in disgust, so I guess that he isn't a secret glue sniffer, he's merely a vandal!
Tracey, you must be getting really nervous about your operation with it being on Monday. Rest assured that we are alright behind you wishing you well and a speedy recovery- will you be going in to Crosshouse Hospital, or up to Glasgow? You sound like a true fighter, the big C doesn't stand a chance honeyxxxx
Melody, my heart is breaking for you, you must be feeling numb with worry. What an unenviable position for you and Francis to be in- I pray that his next appointment gives you some hope for a favourable outcome and that the operation can go ahead as planned. Give our love to Molly too....and not forgetting Milliexxxxx
Huge hugs to all my buddies, Yvonne, Beth, Rebecca, Deb C, Theresa, Wheely Bad, the list goes on, hope you are all well in your absence, missing you loads girlsxxxx

Crafty hugs,

Laine1972xxx
