Sunday 4 January 2015

Thank You For Thinking Of Me

Happy Sunday!  Yes it is a black and white card for today's offering!  At first glance this card seems super simple and it was, just a bit time consuming.  Not sure it was worth the extra work, but I did rather enjoy the actual process.  I cut the Scandinavian Background in black card, leaving a wide border.  I placed a self adhesive sticky sheet over the back of the background so the front open areas were exposed adhesive.  Next I cut the background die again, but this time in white card.  I used all the "fall away" pieces in the white one and painstakingly placed them into the areas on the black background with the sticky adhesive sheet.  I wanted a really smooth even finish on the background and this is how to achieve it, however, my pics look like it just has a piece of white card behind the background!  Oh well, sometimes the process is just as important as the outcome and I really enjoyed the process here!  I stamped my sentiment in black and cut it out with the centre oval in the background.  I cut the Complete Petal Camellia out of some white card that I had sugared with Diamond Snow.  I shaped the flowers a bit and offset them and made two flowers for the corner of the sentiment.  I added flatback pearls to the centres.  I finished the card with a white mat with Cosmic Shimmer white PVA glue dots all the way around it, then a thin black mat and a final white mat layer.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  8 3/4" in size.

Now for the Sunday Comment Game winners.  This week's winners are:

Diane G!!!
Carolyn B!!!
Anne O!!!

Congratulations all!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prize!  All for now, Sue x

Morning Sue
A truly beautiful gift for this Sunday morning. Monochrome - the first of the year - and I love the colour palette. You have the patience of a Saint. But as you say it pays off in the end. I must try this and see how far I get before I give in lol.

Steph - Thank you for making me smile re your lost tiny daisy. I always thought that turn ups on trousers/jeans etc we just for catching tiny things lol. Hope your craft room is now back to normal.
June - I am so sorry to hear about China - I can perfectly understand how devastated your Son will be. To many these friends are a life line. Gentle Hugs for him.

Have to try to rescue a Bday card I made the other day. It's a different format than usual having three single squares joined together from the back with ribbon. I stood on it's own when made but has now decided that the end squares really want to keep falling down. Ah well these things are sent to try us.

To all in pain for whatever reason I hope things get better soon. To all please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Nice card, Sue, always like black-and-white and the Austrian background is really special. What a lot of work! Wonder if the same effect could be achieved by deep embossing on white and then overlaying and glue-ing the black panel (which I often do with striplets)? Just a thought!

Sunday Smiles to you Sue and all that enter this wonderland of W. O. W's today. What a shame that all the time, patience and love put into this amazing mono card doesn't show photography wise, I must say that the photo's are really fantastic lately you show every tiny detail with the close up's. Well the hard work may not show but its a lovely card, and if you enjoyed the process, does it matter if the photo doesnt pick it up, Its bound to show in real life. I can imagin this with other colour's inserted too, such as the delicate aqua or blush ? What do you think ?
Its vile here at the moment, obviously dark, but fog like pea soup, thick frost, and sooo cold, so if anyone is venturing out please wrap up and stay safe. Im going nowhere believe you me, I need my finger's LOL.
To our dear friends that have woken and feel unwell, suffering too much pain, feel low and sorrowful im sending warm comforting hugs (if only they really could do some good) to our missing Wilsonette friends we really are missing you here, please return home soon and keep us smiling with your amusing stories.
Janet, will pop in later to warm up round your fire and watch the wild life from your quaint French winter home and when we make our Sunday loaf I will imagin the fresh baked loaf smell floating round your beautiful home.
Congrats to our 3 Sunday winners Im so pleased for you and enjoy your useful gift.
Sending love n hugs.

Hello Sue,

Good Sunday morning Sue & friends,
Wow what a labour of love, I think that you can see the work you have put in on the close up pictures, the cards always look so different 'in the hand' anyway! I love monochrome, I also thought that I didn't need another back ground die but this one looks a lot more open and intricate, thanks Sue xxxx
June I am so sorry to hear about your Sons dog, bless him I bet he is beside himself, such a young age to lose a companion too, I hope that with lots of love from you he feels a title better today, sending hugs your way!
Cameeli, sounds like you are 'nesting' too, maybe the baby is imminent, you must be so excited! I really do hope that 2015 will bring you either a job that you love or the wealth required for you to stay home and craft,
Sending both you and Mari huge hugs xxxxx
Janet,Janet, Janet, I packed my bags yesterday, the temptation became too much! I was about it set off on my Mobility Scooter bound for the Burgundy Region. Grand Calibur in my basket, ready to eat and craft, sounds like heaven, despite the cold weather.
Look forward to your next instalment xxxx
Norah, sending you happy hugs and thoughts xxx
Steph, what are you like? Was anyone else hiding in your turn ups? I can just imagine the die cut confetti all over your floor, pretty but it gets everywhere, my craft room is next to my wet room, inevitably after I shower at night and walk through to bed I leave a trail of die cut bits behind me! I am glad you are not venturing out in this weather, stay home warm and safe, I can smell your Sunday loaf by the way, my mouth is watering!
To everyone that needs a hug today help yourself,
Happy crafting to everyone,

Oops!..forgot to say congrats to the comment game winners...

and to anyone who would like to have a go at this technique, the work goes a lot quicker if you use a blob of Blu-tack on a cocktail stick to replace the fall-away pieces...and if you can't be bothered to colour up the bits with a Pro-marker (or similar pens) then cut the die again twice more using complementary coloured cardstocks and work out your infill by eye...it's very therapeutic and you end up with an original artwork!...

Well done Sue

Very pretty - I wonder just how long it *did* take you to do? Do you ever time yourself?

Hi Sue, there is a lot of black today but I still love it! The close-ups show the detail perfectly so your time was certainly not wasted. I love jigsaws and have completed three 1000 piece ones during this holiday so I think the technique may suit me :-)

Congratulations to the blog post winners, I am sure you will enjoy your prizes.

Hi Sue
Love monochrome and this card ticks all the boxes for me. I don't think I would have the patience to try it, but the effect it gives is lovely. Didn't get chance to comment yesterday so had a treat in store looking at yesterday's 2 cards and reading all the comments. I love the Aqua and Black one, those diagonal background cuts really appeal to me. The Striplet you used on the ginger card is my absolute favourite and that flower was gorgeous.

June, so sorry to read about your son's dog China he must be so upset, special hugs for him.

Diane and Lynda, thank you for your kind thoughts, Val's chemo seems to be going well and despite it she had a lovely birthday.

Steph, the warm hugs you and this wonderful blog family send out really do give comfort, they may be cyber hugs but they are so appreciated by all who receive them, so keep them coming !!!

Myra, thank you, we did have a safe journey "home" but it was horrid. Took us 21 hours. Thick snow in Germany and to cap it all a warning of Wild Boar on our section of motorway to contend with. Hubby was getting quite excited and hoping we might be "lucky" enough to get one and stow it in the boot, ( glad to say we didn't ).
Love and hugs
Saba

Hi Sue, now that's what I call a labour of love! You have the patience of a saint to do all that fiddly stuff, I think I would have been inclined to try and find an easier way to do it lol. I think that 'in the flesh' all your hard work would be easier to see. I have to say though, I love the finished card, especially as it's b&w. As always, thanks so much for sharing with us. x

HI Sue Lovely card and I think well worth the effort you put in. It just wouldn't look the same if you were to just attach the die cut onto a piece of white card. I think it would look good in two contrasting colours as well.

Hi Sue,
Another beauty today - yes a lot of work but another crafter will appreciate it!
Kitty - I too remember doing this with peel off stickers and some had tiny pieces. The trouble was - they never looked as elegant as Sue's card. Thanks Sue! Not sure I'll try this one but I do appreciate all the work that went into it.
Sandra! - you just be careful on that scooter! Mind you it will be safer than the broom! Health and Safety would have a field day with several grand caliburs perched on a broom! Yes - I'm slightly crackers too! Lol.
Isn't it amazing how much fun you can have from your armchair!
Congratulations to all today's winners.
Patience Cameeli - but it's not easy!
Barbiepinkfairy- keep smiling but it's not easy! You must be drained at the end of a shift!
Got to motivate myself to prepare for tomorrow's after school crafting with children !
Have a cosy day everyone,
Love to all, particularly those who are missing at the moment. Sending hugs to Norah, Sheila, Lynne and Lindsay and anyone I have missed.

Lovely monochrome card, I'm not sure if I would have such patience, I've done that with corners but not a whole card.
Janet any room in your French home for me too, sounds great. If I get some super fuel for my mobility scooter and I set off now I could make it by Easter.(lol)
Well what a waste of time flat hunting was yesterday, how do some people live in such hovels, and how do landlords let their properties get so bad.
Went again today to see a house share, it was beautiful but loads of people after it, so am keeping everything crossed that my daughter can get it.
Am going now while I can still move cos after 2 long journeys I'm not going to be up to do much tomorrow. I can here the kettle boil hubby is bringing me a nice cuppa and I'm going to take some extra painkillers and that's me done.
Congrats winners.
Warm hugs
Theresa xx

Heavens above my good girl - life is the journey not the ending and if it was fun then more power to your pokey tool!! I'm afraid I'd do a die cut with a white background but it certainly wouldn't be as classy as yours. Fabulous card. xx Maggie (better without a bow)

Hi Sue
After the sparkle of Christmas (which I love!), it's lovely to get back to something which 'shines' in a different way! I did something similar with a pretty candle die - it can't have had more than 12 pieces fall out, but I thoroughly enjoyed slotting them in and had a great sense of achievement! As many comments have already suggested, crafting is all about the journey. I'm going to hunt out a suitable die and try it again. Delighted to see my name listed today! Best wishes,
Anne O

Hi Sue. Today's card is beautiful !! I love the black and white monochrome. I love the idea of replacing all the fall out pieces to create such a uniquely different card !! It looks like the white card has been embossed through the gaps in the black die cut. Very clever !! A real labour of love and well worth doing. The results are stunning !! I also really love your glitterey Camelia flowers to. Just gorgeous !! Thank you Sue for sharing this beautiful card today. Sending you lots of love today from Tres x x x
