Double Butterflies

Hello there my crafty friends!  I have a two-fer for you today.  Both butterfly cards.  They are both really simple styled cards and I just didn't think that giving them each a separate day was worthwhile.  I know you like the two-fers too so two it is!  First up, is a elegant distressed card.  I selected three soft pastel shades and tore on side of each, staggered them and taped them into place on to a larger piece of white card.  I stamped a sentiment (looked everywhere for a butterfly related sentiment, but alas, no luck!) in black Archival ink in the upper left corner.  I covered a small piece of white card with a sticky adhesive sheet.  I peeled the backing off and coated it with Diamond Snow.  I used the largest butterfly from my Magical Butterfly die set and cut it out for a bit of bling.  I glued white flat back pearls down the body, bent the wings up and glued it into place in the right hand corner.  I finished the card with my usual pierced white edge with another white mat to finish it off.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  8" in size.  Scroll down for card no. two.

Card number two is a remake of a card that I did about three years ago.  This time I used my butterfly dies and one of my Pinpoint embossing folders. I really liked that card and wanted to see it done with my dies.  The butterflies are going up the card the opposite direction of the original, but it is virtually the same card.  I embossed the lower portion of the card by running a piece of white card through with my Floral Brocade embossing folder.  I hand cut a diagonal edge and then attached it to another piece of white card on which I stamped my sentiment in black in the upper left hand corner.  Using another one of the butterflies from the Magical Butterfly die set, I cut five white ones using the decorative insert and the outer cutting edge.  I selected five pastel shades of card and used just the outer cutting edge to cut one butterfly from each of the colours.  I glued them together only down the body, allowing the wings to move freely.  I added small white flatback pearls down each of the bodies after attaching them along my diagonal hand cut edge.  I finished this card the same way with a single white mat layer that I paper pierced and a final white mat.  Both simple cards, but I like the clean look of them.  The finished dimensions on this one is
 6 1/2" x  8" in size.  Do you have a favourite?

Also, I have a quick question for everyone.  I have been very surprised by the number of emails that I have received about putting my You Tube videos on to a DVD.  We have checked into doing this and a double disc DVD with roughly about 20 of my demos on the two disc set would have to retail for about £14.99.  How do you feel about that?  Is it still something that you would be interested in?  We are of two minds about this so I thought I would ask the question to all my blog followers.

And finally, the winner of this week's Wednesday Card Giveaway is:

Alimecca!!!

Congratulations!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prize. All for now, Sue x

Morning Sue. These are two beautiful cards but my favourite has to be No2. I made the original one and my sister loved it so much so she had it framed and its hanging up in her bedroom. A pat on the back for me LOL. I think its a great idea for a dvd, it would go straight to the top of my big wish list. Congrats to alimecca on winning your beautiful card.
Take care everyone its still cold outside.

Hi Sue My Dear Friend,

The Second Card Is Stunning As I Love The Floral Brocade Embossing Folder, And Of Course Those Fabulous Butterflies They Look Amazing.
It's Great To See Two Cards, Double The Excitement Of Checking Out Your Work.
As For The DVD I Think It's A Good Idea.
But I Use YouTube Which I Find So Useful, And Easy To Use.

Morning, Sue, thanks for the two-fer. Still not too keen on the distressed edges although the colours are beautiful, so prefer the pretty second one.
As you ask re a DVD, I always save my favourite cards with the date, so can always go back to review when feeling the need! So, for me, very happy doing this - with literally dozens just a click away!!
Well done to Alison (alimecca) hope you're much better soon. No happy dance with a cracked rib, though!

Good morning Sue
Two fabulous cards with number two just pushing to the top. I love the way we can put a colour under the top layer. When I cut a butterfly out using your dies I place them strategically on a piece of card so that I can use the 'waste' on another card because it leaves such a pretty aperture. The two sentiments you've used are lovely are they Creative Expresssions stamps?
The DVD is a brilliant idea and will be very popular but for me I prefer YouTube because I'm struggling with storage space.
Congratulations Alimecca

Hi lovely Sue. Have a good day Wilsonettes. Number two has to be my favourite as its so delicate, the tone of pastel colour's peeping through is just so pretty, and for me, out of thrm both it looks the easiest for my level of craft, plus I have that EF, and could use another SB butterfly die I have until I can save for your magical butterfly set. The sentiment comes right back to you Sue as Im not sure where I would be in life without you and particraft. No 1 is a beautiful card also, but I know I wouldnt be able to do it justice. As for the DVD... Oh YES please - ASAP Id love it and would find it more useful and helpful than you know.
Many congratulations Alison on your ein. A card to be cherished.

Of today's cards, I love the second one, it looks so delicate. I have made your previous version a few times and it has always been well received. I like the first card, but I know if I tried it, the torn edges would look a mess!
I think, I would prefer to use YouTube instead if a DVD ( but, having said that, if you did the DVD, I would probably buy it!)
Hope everyone has a great day and that you all stay safe and warm. Sending special hugs to those under the weather for any reason. Love Alison xxxx

Hi Sus - both stunning cards, but the second one is my favourite.

I like the sentiment in the first one and must try to find this stamp. You mention you couldn't find a butterfly sentiment to go on the first card - the lovely Phill Martin does a butterfly stamp with the words 'Let Your Dreams Fly' which would fit the first card quite well.

I'm not sure I would use a DVD as I always keep a record of your cards and videos which I can refer to. However I'm sure a lot of people would welcome one. Personally I would rather buy another set of your beautiful dies. Have a lovely weekend, best wishes

regarding the did. ... It is a good idea but like you say you already upload to YouTube which is fantastic. Would it be too much work in producing a magazine to compliment the videos Already uploaded. That way there is always reference which you can work with at your own pace rather than from memory of watching a video. Every card you put on your blog has the method you have used. A DVD would be great, for those that don't have internet access where they craft, or like me, as a quick and easy way to find a certain technique.

Morning Sue

The second one is absolutely my favourite - I am afraid I a not a great fan of the tearing approach!

As to the DVD, yes I would certainly be interested in that. It would be great if it could be set out in sections, so Christmas Cards, techniques using gilding flakes etc for easy reference.

I also noticed that another of your followers suggested a magazine or similar with all your cards/make descriptions. I think that is a great idea and would be a wonderful reference tool. I don't think it needs to be too glossy so that you can minimise your production costs - maybe one a year? I know you post one every day so perhaps you could choose one or two from each month that highlighted a particular technique(s) and then a list at the back of all your dies/folders to date and where we can buy them.

Hope that's helpful.

Well done today'a winner!

I like both of the cards, the soft colours of the first and the beautiful butterflies of the second. As for a Dvd, at the moment I just look at your list and chose a card I would like to attempt to copy but a Dvd would enable me to view and craft along with you. Not much help am I!!!
Kind regards Sandra Kent.

Good morning Sue,
Love this card which could be used for many situations. One question, do you know the name of the embossing folder you used? I don't know that I have this one in my collection but would definitely buy it. could you email me the answer to my question.
Thanks

Morning Sue and everyone. Another pair of stunners! Love them both. Sue, I would definately buy the DVD as soon as it hit the shops - I recently had to get rid of my old VHS TV/video and so all my recordings of your C&C shows are gone too! It would be so lovely to watch you demonstrate on DVD. Love, Judy M xxx

I love the second butterfly card, not as keen on the first I'm afraid.

You asked about buying a DVD of your tutorials, I have to say that I see no point myself when they're available to watch already? Still, I'm sure some people will feel the need to have a hard copy.

It is another beautiful card. I am glad you revisited and old design as I only recently found your blog and am in love with both of these butterfly designs.Thank you again.

Hi Sue,
I love butterflies! Today's cards are therefore sure fire winners here! If I had to chose a favourite it would be the second one as it is so delicately pretty. I am not a fan of my torn edges! However I was thinking I might try the card but using a border die cut in three soft shades? Yes? No?
Alison - many congratulations on winning this weeks card. Hope it makes you feel a little better!
Cheryl - my fingers will be crossed for you too! Will just cross my legs when I sit down! Safer all round! x
Have a lovely weekend everyone and stay warm and safe.
Lots of love to Sue and everyone,
Myra xxx
PS. Nearly forgot about DVD! I use an IPad all the time and tend not to have DVDS s . However I can see they would be very useful for lots of people . I could watch it in my husband's study on his computer but I wouldn't be able to craft along to it! I think your price is a very fair one. Not sure if I've been any help at all.

Hello Sue and all

Lovely Cards.

I'm not normally a fan of distressed edging but I really like this one. I'm not sure if it is because of the full width horizontal use or the colour mix you have used.

The second is so pretty it looks very delicate. I like the part embossing and the colours and positioning of the butterflies. I will save and copy this for my daughters birthday later this year, I'm sure she will be blown away.

Thanks for sharing.

Best wishes

Hi Sue,
Just me again,
I think the idea of a magazine, project book would be excellent - possibly a bit like the Creative Expression ones but not even as glossy to keep down manufacturing costs. Different techniques would be good.
Thanks again, love Alison xx

I have to say my favourite is the second card , I love the texture used and oh so many butterflies!
Sheena Douglass has a stamp set called "A Little Bit Sketchy A5 Stamp Set - Butterfly Effect Stamp" with butterfly sentiments.
The ease of checking your demonstrations on the PC is better for me as PC is in the craft room so I don't think the DVD is a good idea, I would rather buy one of your dies/folders etc.

Wheely Bad said...

Hi Sue

I love butterflies. The number of butterfly stamps I have fill a box on their own! I have butterfly dies but not yours yet. I love both of these "quick" cards are always needed. With the 2nd card I'm sure you could do a line of your daisys or other flowers (your latest flowers would look so cute). I think either of these would make lovely cards for little girls and teens too, with an appropriate sentiment they'd work for any age.

Congratulations Alison, careful happy dance please, I'm sure this has made you feel better!

Re DVD, a lot of people have internet but while it may be fast enough to look at pages it doesn't work well for streaming videos so this would be great for them. My internet is ok for streaming sometimes... if I'm in the craft half-a-room streaming the football on sky, craftvon you tube or watching C&C and Mr.W starts looking on the net in another room it buffers like crazy- v. annoying. Mine slows in bad weather too, probably same for a lot of people too, so for me it'd be a good idea as long as you don't need the internet to watch it. I don't know if that is worked into the cost or not but that's my position. In the majority of rural areas bband is dreadful and I think those people would find a 'stand alone' dvd better too. I have a few dvds from various designers and of different crafts and I love them to work along with as I can pause to catch up, go back etc - it's how I learned to knit! I like you tube too to look up a stitch, techniques etc. I think there are lots of people who use your dies or who watch you on C&C who don't come on the blog too. I hope you do go through with it but I have no idea what I'd like to see, maybe some of your 'old' technique s from 5 plus years ago re jigged to work with your dies?

Must go, lunch is ready. Big, big hugs to everyone. Extra available if required

Good afternoon Sue and the fabulous Wilsonettes,
The first card is not me i'm afraid Sue as i can't get into this shabby fashion at all(probably due to being brought up with everything done to pristine proportions and standards) although i do like the colours that you have incorporated into the card, lovely spring or better days to come colours. The second card i just love to bits as it is so pretty. I have spent the last 10mins trying to work out how you managed to emboss diagonally (ignore me, i try to work out how you have done a card before looking at the instructions to see if i was right or not, silly i know) as i think it can be done but i will work it out eventually(probably about 4:00 am in the morning it will come to me). Thank you for giving us a twofer day as it is a welcomed surprise and i for one would be interested in your dvd, and if worked out that is working out at 75pence a lesson which is great value for money and there is no interruptions over the top of listening to you, so count me in please.
Fantastic news Alison as i know you will love your hand made gift of friendship when it arrives, but no gynastics please or the ribs will never heal. I am so happy that you have something to bring a smile to your face flower.
Well it is a beautiful day up here at the Ochil Hills with the sun shining although it is a wee bitty cold. Campbell is taking off the old back door at Mum's and having to replace all the timber that goes around it because it is rotten. The people that built it for my daddy i am getting more and more annoyed with as i think that all they were, were chanty rastlers. They haven't put any insulation inbetween the plaster board walls and the brick work of the outside, none up between the ceiling and roof space so there is damp coming in that needs to be addressed and sorted. I'm more annoyed because it took my parents along time to get anything that they needed done as they didn't approve of credit cards or such, so the money that it cost to get the two outside wee sheds/coal bunkers and passageway made part of the house took them 20years to save for it. Anyway, there is two new doors going on back and front and Campbell is just doing it himself but what a difference they will make to the place, then all i need to do is get the new windows to finish off the outside of the building. I think that mum would be pleased with what i have been getting done to the house as it will look nice when it is all done and in place. My other inside doors that have been with the carrier for over a fortnight now have been cancelled and i have asked for my money back. They have lost one of them and wont send out the rest because it would give them a double journey up from Birmingham which i can understand but they can't tell me how they are trying to sort it out and when i will get them, so that's just no use to me or anyone else.
Anyway that's my moans and groans finished with but i will wish you all a good weekend. Sending hugs to all my Angels on blog and not at the moment. To Lindsay and Lynne, i hope that you are picking up in spirit and health and that you come back home again soon,
love and crafty hugs

WAUW sooo beautiful work here again Sue, especially the one with the 5 butterflies are just amazing. I love butterflies and these ones are just tooo cute and beautiful in all their different colors.
About the Cd´s or DVD´s I don´t think it´s taht bad if it´s for a doublle, as that´s what most of these cost for just a single, so it sure doesn´t scare me of for sure.

Hi Sue
A different mix of card styles today & always like to see something new...
The first card is striking & like the soft pastel colours you have used & the sentiment is so personal & for that Special friend or family member I think plus with the addition of the butterfly makes for a lovely card..
The second card is so beautiful & I love it..
I love anything with butterflies & the Floral Brocade embossing folder is so pretty, I'll have to get that one for sure..
Love the style of the card & the soft pastel colours peeking through the butterflies are stunning & really finishes the card off beautifully..

Both cards are lovely, and I really like no 1, which is a surprise because I don't usually do distressed. I think it would look great in shades of blue with a ship or lighthouse stamped for a man/boys card or Even a mermaid stamped for a girl's card.
Great idea to issue a DVD, put my name down for one. I often go back to your original DVD and use it as an aide-memoire.

You seem to be in a world of your own talking to yourself but we are all carried along with you.(even my husband will stop and watch a demo and he is not a crafter) You could make a bucket with a hole in the bottom interesting. I would love to see a DVD EVERY MONTH, I would have them all.... I as many others love the 2nd card the best.

Particularly loved the second card but the first one would be very quick to make in a pinch. The DVD would be fantastic for times when I am NOT near an internet connection (cabin through the warmer months)or cruising.
