Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hello bloggers!  Today's card giveaway is a relatively flat card, at least compared to my usual style!  I started by cutting an aperture in a piece of Iris card using the oval from the Cathedral Background die set.  Next I embossed the aperture piece with the Wild Roses embossing folder.  I used the negative side so the roses appear debossed and I ran a Clear Perfect Medium pad over the top to darken the surrounding card (like a reverse letterpress technique).  It is very subtle but it does help accent the pattern.  I used the smaller oval from the Cathedral Background and cut another aperture but this time out of black card.  I glued it behind the Iris card so it created an frame around the inside of the aperture.  I used the decorative die from that set and cut it out of coconut white card.  I attached a piece of sticky adhesive sheet behind the decorative cut out area and glittered it, then attached it behind the aperture.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the Pierced Flags and matted it with a slightly larger flag.  I tucked the end under the oval in the background.  Using the Blushing Rose die set, I cut three out of black card and backed them with vellum for a translucent look.  I attached them around the oval using Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue as it works great with vellum and doesn't show when used sparingly.  I cut a few of the leaves out of vellum and added those as well as accents.  I completed the card by piercing a white mat, adding a thin Iris and thin black mat and a last mat of white.  The finished dimensions are 6 3/4"x  8 1/4" in size.  Leave me a comment to be entered into the drawing to win this one!  All for now,Sue x

Thanks for sharing with us. Without your inspiration I would be scratching my head wondering what to do with my dies.
Oh and I bought both sets of the noble rectangles yesterday, Both the squares and rectangles make it easier to mat and layer. I spent yesterday die cutting a lot of the dies out in white card, and plan to use the colour cloud inks & gilding wax, like Phil showed on his shows rather than using coloured card.
Thanks again for sharing your talent with us.

Morning Sue
Hope you are impressed with my promptness today - don't be fooled - it won't become a habit.
Wowee. Love this. It is so eye catching. I know that many people are not keen on black but I really think that it makes your cards 'pop'. Iris is such a delightful colour and really appeals to my taste.
I have now begun my countdown to 1st April. SOOOOOO looking forward to having the queen of crafting back on our screens. I have a holiday in the Isle of Wight to look forward to before that but would it be wrong of me to say that my excitement levels are greater at the prospect of seeing you and all your fabulousness. Lots of love x
Lots of rain as I look out of the window. Not much on but have the girls coming round this evening for our weekly Appreciation Society meeting. Tea and cake methinks x
THERESA W - I did manage to get my sheets on the line yesterday. Much inhaling took place and you can imagine my delight when I went to bed last night. Fresh sheets - what a joy x
BARBARA - you are Woman and you can do it. Hang in there hun. Lots of love x
LAINE - before I 'met' you I was a fine upstanding member of the community. It has not taken long for you to drag me down to your distasteful level with such subtlety that I had not even noticed that I am now along side you in the gutter. You obviously realised how much more pulchritudinous I was than you and just couldn't handle my being so cultured in comparison to you. Let's face it, the North/South divide is well and truly evident when it comes to you and me. You can aspire to obtain just a tad of my obvious upper class attributes but - well dream on peasant x
LORRAINE - your family and I appreciate your efforts to smell a bit sweeter. Jokes aside - big huggles x
WHEELY BAD - sparing??? Oh I mean every word. Laine thinks she is far better than the rest of us (lol). Someone needs to bring her down a peg or 2 and I am willing to take on that task on behalf of everyone. Glad you are enjoying your new sports car x
HELEN - hope antibiotics have kicked in. Sending more hugs x
MAUREEN - I make a stove top rice pudding using risotto rice. No nutmeg but vanilla extract and it is delicious x
PAM - sending you a warm hug. Lots of love x
TINA - I am so pleased that you managed to have a lovely day yesterday x
Ok folks. Not quite sure what I should be doing. I am not usually conscious at this time of the day so it is a bit of a novelty. Possibly a bowl of porridge and a Jeremy Kyle viewing - it always makes me laugh and makes me feel a lot better about my life - don't think that is Jeremy's intention but needs must x
Sending smiles, love and happy thoughts to you all.
Crafty hugs
Yvonne

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, Sue...and the card is very pretty too lol.
I've added the rose dies to my ever growing wish list, they look so dramatic cut out in black and how inspiring to back them with vellum. I think this is a card we would all love to win :).
Pam, sending hugs your way today. I lost my next-door neighbour last week and she is being laid to rest today. She was only in her 40's and the mis-diagnosis of IBS grew into terminal stomach cancer. What a miserable day it is for a farewell, gale force winds have been blowing since last night.

On a happier note, my amaryllis now has a flower stalk that's over 2' tall. I'm wondering just when it's going to decide to actually open up and give me a show. It's a gift from my sister and I've never seen it in flower before. She was given the original bulb back in the 90's by her ma-in-law and over the years it produced over a dozen baby bubs. When she moved house she gave me one of the tubs and so far, two of the bulbs in there have flower stalks. Fingers crossed for a beautiful flower...watch this space lol.

Can I put in a request for a video tutorial using the Australian Background Die. My daughter bought it for me as a Mother's day gift. I have made a card using just the outside edge and the diamond lattice layer, which I cut into a seperate panel 4 times and puttng a background behind it before adding it to the first layer and adding to a card, but it would be nice to get some more inspiration.

Had Scamp to vets for a check and the vet is really pleased with her and has said she can have supervised strolls around the lounge as long as she doesn't jump anywhere. The only problem with that is when we then put her back in the cage she is horrendous. Little devil deliberately knocked her water bowl over three times when we tried this. Still it is great news that she's well and truly on the mend.
