Ivied Sentiment

Hi bloggers!  Today's video card has a nice ivy theme running through it from the background to the sentiment.  There is also a pretty treatment for bringing your ivy embellishments to life as well.  Enjoy!

The finished dimensions are 7 3/4"  x  9 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Beautiful card, so lovely. Love the Ivy.
Steph, you can do this for Lottie Beth, she will love them.
Tracey, what a brave lady you are and so funny, made me laugh about M&S. Must check out my new store sometime.
Melody and Francis, you have my deepest admiration for your courage, yes Melody, you too, it takes a lot to speak out about something that is tearing you apart, your strength and determination. We are all supporting you. Cheryl always has the perfect words that we would all like to speak.
Hugs to all, what a great supportive blog this is.

Hi Sue. Gorgeous card, love the ivy theme and the flowers are so "touchable".
Can't believe that it's Thursday already and I haven't done any crafting at all this week! Although, we have visited two universities and had a trip to Newcastle to see a certain boy band, so I've not been idle.
Tracy - take it easy, pj days sound just the thing. Melody - hugs as always. Sue XXX

Hi Sue,

Thank you Sue - it's getting ivy on it !

Morning Sue and early birds,

Really fresh and zingy card with that gorgeous shade of green. I use the ivy die quite a lot in my cards and embellishments on other paper crafts.

Daily thoughts and prayers to Tracy, enjoy your pj day, there is nothing better than allowing your self time out to recover. My radiotherapy sessions were always the first ones in the morning, due to my agoraphobia, and I loved getting home and putting my pj's on to catch up on my snoozes.

Melody and Francis, continue being brave throughout this horrible time. We are all standing firm with you but don't forget to have some 'me' time too, you will need it. Gurt big ((((hugs)))) to you and all your family.

Love & hugs to all those in pain, discomfort or loss. I hope your day becomes kinder.

Hi Sue & Lovely Wilsonettes; Such a very pretty card Sue & some wonderful techniques, the ivy cut already comes out beautiful, as I’m lucky that it popped out of my hat a while back, but to add the glue lacquer just makes them even more appealing, have seen you use this method at your demo so really must put it into practise. Must admit when I saw the card I thought OoooooH can I really do that but watching you make this on video it is so brilliantly clever, so effortless but at the same time so lovely & effective. Thank you for sharing your extraordinary talent with us Sue I learn so much from yourself & your amazing team x x x

Every 2 years during my half term break from work Mr B & I have a good clean & sort out of the attic (too hot up there in the summer to mess around; Lol)...so yesterday we got stuck in, at a snail’s pace of course for my benefit, which took all day & his 2 trips to the skip later, with full loads, we finished around 7.30 pm. We had to be pretty stringent as he is hoping to set up his train set up there, not to my liking though as no windows which is why I put first grabs up for the study for part craft room; at least I got my priorities right; Lol.

Melody, Francis, Molly & family; my heart goes out to you when I read that the news was not what we had all hoped for you, but when faced with a dreadful dilemma it is amazing how strong Francis suddenly feels in his determination to see this through, I sincerely hope that this strength & determination brings forth a positive outcome in 6 weeks time, but as others have said please take care of yourself too as you also need some time to keep your inner & physical strength up to par, easier said than done I know but my prayers are sent to you all each day...Love ‘n’ (((HUGS))) x x x x x

STEPHANIE; my heart went out to you but you bravely completed your task, hopefully if you are asked again it will be easier for you... perhaps one way through this is to pre cut a whole bunch of sentiment labels/tags in different shapes & sizes from spare card (you can even ink the edges of each one in a neutral colour before taking them out of the die) & then pre stamp them with whatever sentiments you wish (even doubling or tripling each one), then if someone asks you for a sentiment of say ‘daughter’, ‘friend’ etc then you can reach for it out of a tub/bag & plonk it on with a bit of double sided or foam tape, that way you will have your card all made up with just the sentiment centre to add...hope this helps x x x

Speaking of nerves when I was sat at the committee table for the first time as volunteer treasurer for a Royal British Legion branch, I was the only female at the top table & they had a dark blue cloth covering the top & front of the table with an RBL logo embroidered on it...It was my turn to make my report to the members at our meeting, I knew I had to give a jolly good show as they had unanimously voted me to take position as their Treasurer...but my knees turned to jelly, my insides shivered like a pneumatic drill & my voice & lips quivered wildly. I apologised saying I was happy & proud to have taken this position for them but I was just so nervous. Everyone was very kind by saying there was no need to be nervous as we were all friends together, but one gentleman piped up “you could always crawl under the table & read your report out from behind the cloth”, “oh no” I said “I can’t do that, what would you all be thinking, these are all men sitting here you know”. Well, you’ve never heard anything like it as the room went into an absolute uproar; most of the ladies & gents had taken out their hankies & were wiping away the tears streaming down from their raucous laughter. Well to say the least I was still nervous every time I gave my report but I will never ever forget my first one; Lol

Have to split this one Sue so hope you don't mind x x x

ARWEN PERRY; I had to chuckle “enjoy the shopping” (I hope you meant me; Lol) I got some lovely CE sentiment cling stamps & the fabulous thing about them is they are all individual so no having to cut around them. My hat had pleased me immensely with the choices I pulled out, especially the gorgeous French ‘AUVERGNE’, Caribbean ‘St Barts’ Greek ‘Santorini’ & Festive ‘Tree Greeting’ had been hoping for these ones to pop out for so long. Then I came home had a rest, well if I’m honest a good snooze, & onto my dad-in-laws to share a take away, I hadn’t been well enough to see him lately so sharing a birdie meal was a nice way to spend time with him & I think he appreciated it.
YVONNE; glad your okay & lovely to see you back but please remind me never to borrow anything from you that will take you away from your daily fix I would hate for Louise to come to the forefront to exact her wrath...me thinks I’m watching too much Jekyll & Hyde; Lol as for Lorraine I assure you she has been the pillar of our little community, says I with a Lol; a perfect example of Bonnie without her Clyde, Thelma without her Louise etc etc; LOL...no seriously she, myself & Wilsonettes have missed the banter that goes back & forth between you both... (((HUGS))) x x x PS ‘Shrunken exit’ had a chuckle at this description; Lol – see told you we missed your lovely humour x
LINDA28; Happy Birthday to you, hope you had a lovely day & enjoyed your crafting birthday (((HUGS))) x x x JULIA; blessings to you both & congratulations on your wedding, so wonderful when 2 halves of you both finally become one; I sincerely wish you the joy, happiness & companionship for many, many years that I have had the privilege to share with Mr B (((HUGS))) to you both x x x HEATHER T; my thoughts are with you today, not easy to lose a friend at any age so just wanted to send you heaps of (((HUGS))) to see you through a difficult time x x x

Hi Sue, I love all my ivy leaves and I like the way you have used them here. From the comments I gather that some of them have been lacquered. I can't watch the video just now as it keeps stopping and pixelating - maybe too many Wilsonettes are trying to watch at the same time lol so I will try again later.

Evening Sue
A few years ago I would have thought that ivy was only suitable for Christmas cards. I am so pleased that it is you that has proved me wrong.
This card is absolutely lovely. Thinking of you cards are not always cards that we would choose to make but unfortunately they are necessary sometimes. This card is so befitting of the sentiment.
I have not really given the ivy dies much attention but I think that they may need to come and live here.
Thank you again Sue for your generosity and allowing us to share and be inspired by your utter brilliance x
Have had a wonderful day spending time with a very good friend. We see each other quite frequently but our 'meetings' are usually brief and hardly long enough to slurp a full cup of tea. Anyway we made a pact to have a proper catch up and had lunch and dinner together and hardly paused for breath in between all the highly intelligent articulating - if you believe that you will believe anything.
We spent most of the afternoon trying to be sensible and grown up. Our attempts at maturity were fruitless so we decided to give in to our inner child. It really is true - laughter is the best medicine. I am exhausted from all the frivolity, especially when my friend laughed so much that her incontinence got the better of her!! Is it so wrong to find other peoples failing bodily functions so hilarious??!! I don't think that Jake was terribly impressed with his mothers juvenile behaviour and his look of disdain which was clearly visible just added fuel to our terribly inappropriate behaviour x
BETH B - I have no problem anyone borrowing things. My friend did not borrow my charger - she stole it - there is a big difference. Jekyll and Hyde would be an appropriate name for Lorraine and myself methinks. Me being Jekyll and obviously Lorraine most definitely would be Hyde x
LORRAINE FREEMAN - my best 'glitter story' was when it was a friend's sons 21st birthday and I filled his card with glitter. He realised before taking the card out of the envelope and the majority of the sparkles remained in the envelope. I was not happy with this outcome as my intention had been for the glitter to make much more of an impression so decided to take matters into my own hands. My friends son was only wearing shorts so I took the glitter filled envelope and emptied the contents down the back of his shorts. The aftermath of my little 'joke' resulted in a long shower and a feeble attempt to remove the gritty but incredibly shiny particles from creases and crevices that should remain private!! There was a trail of glitter left all over the house for a number of weeks. I do like to leave my mark. On a serious note - I am on anti depressants. It is nothing to be ashamed of. I resisted the advice of my doctor for a long time but realised that I needed a little bit of help to 'keep afloat'. It was about a year after I lost Steve my partner. If you had a cut you would stick a plaster on it wouldn't you? My happy pills and I are a good partnership. Do not bottle it up - shout help if you need to x
Maria - me time is always on the menu somewhere. Me time and time spent with good friends is a necessity. Mind you if this afternoon is anything to go by I don't think I could cope on a regular basis. Laughter is a wonderful thing and silliness has it's place, but a few more sessions like that and I would be fit for nothing - knackered x
Heather T - I hope the funeral was a suitable send off and I am sorry for your loss x
Tracy - make the most of your pj days - go with the flow. Behave and do as you are told. Lots of love x
Lorraine/Thelma/Cagney - you ok?
Ok everyone. Signing off now. Need to rest after a raucous and feckless afternoon. I am hoping that I have not traumatised my son too much and he will not hold a grudge. I am supposed to be the adult after all - Lol!
Lots of love to everyone
Nite nite
Yvonne

Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew,

I am embarrassingly late today so sincere apologies for my tardiness, it's inexcusable I know:-)
I have been further remiss by not yet watching your fabulous demo so I will comment on what I can see and guess the rest.
I am a real fan of the ivy, it's a great all rounder and suitable at any time of year- I have used it in the past by inking white paper to create texture and dimension before cutting out and I think that you may have used this fabulous technique here, The lacquer is a superb addition, I've just completed a card with lacquered poinsettias and the results are awesome. All in all I really adore this card, anything featuring a noble die immediately gets my vote, and the font of your new sentiment die is beautiful. Your talents know no bounds, thanks for the continuing inspirationalxxxx
I'm feeling rather pooped this evening after a rather late appointment with my nail technician- I now have the talons worthy of any Hollywood megastar even if ,sadly, not the lifestyle, I was feeling rather festive so I went for rose gold glitter to cheer me up and it sure did the trick. I always find the first week or two after the clocks go back a real trial- my GP likes to keep a close eye on me at this time of year just in case I go off the rails and have a mini meltdown so the differences between me and Mr Hyde are negligible I'm afraid Yvonne and Beth:-) But I can really empathise with those who are struggling at the moment, but like Yvonne so wisely put it, there is no shame in asking for a helping hand to weather the storm.
Maria, thanks for your suggestion about the light box, I used to use sunbeds for 10yrs for that very reason until I developed skin cancer which I am still receiving treatment for- I think your suggestion is brill, with the added bonus of being safe! I use a daylight lamp in my craftroom which helps during the darker winter months. I really must put that lottery ticket on though, my dream would be to have a pad in the sun to spend the winter months, I watch A place in the Summer Sun dreaming of a property in the Caribbean or Florida- a thought that would send a shiver of fear down Sues spine and a restraining order in hot pursuit:-)
Heather, my thoughts are with you for your loss, it's always harder to bear when our loved one is youngerxxx
Julie, crafting can be the best medicine, I packed my Grand Calibur before my nightwear when I last had a lengthy stay in hospital, it was a great tonic. Best of luck in your recoveryxx
Beth, glad you enjoyed your birthday and managed to put the money to good use. Loved your story, I'm sure there were a few blushes along with the laughter, not a maiden speech to be easily forgotten:-)
Yvonne, losing control of your bodily functions is becoming a regular occurrence, I feel an intervention may be the order of the day- perhaps industrial strength Tena Lady is insufficient precautions, maybe Jake will feel that care in an appropriate facility is the logical step:-) My gran used to wet herself with excitement whilst watching Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks...but she had given birth to eight children so it was only understandable! I'm glad you enjoyed yourself though, even if you disturbed the peace and your son with your antics!By the way, don't you think Mr Hyde is merely misunderstood, not the raving psychopath with anger management issues? I'm slightly concerned that you see some parallels with my own character though, especially since I have worked so hard to build up a worthwhile reputation on this blog.
I think I may be nearing my word limit again so can I just send healing hugs to Tracy, melody, Francis, Wheely bad and anyone in need of a cuddlexxx Sleep tight.

Laine1972xxxx

Hi Sue

Stunning. I love the ivy dies, I love snipping as you know, I snipped the Spanish border on my last card shaping leaves fron the straight border. I was so pleased with the result.

Melody, sending hugs to you, Franicis and Molly xxx

Tracy, Pj days are perfect... just what you need. Treat yourself too- you deserve it! Sending hugs xxx

Julie Laz, sorry you're in hospital, hope you're getting better and glad you can do some crafting, sending hugs xxx

Cr@ty Heather, I'm sorry for your loss, hugs xxx

Thinking of everyone in or just out of hospital or poorly, Sam, Val and others, hugs xxx

Lorraine Freeman, down days are allowed, antidepressants or not, don't do yourself down over it. Crafting is such a great therapy though and I hope it made you feel better. Hugs xxxx I don't know about SAD lights but I can say that daylight bulbs instead of the regular low energy bulbs make a difference in the winter... plus you can properly see colours when you're crafting! They're not hugely expensive just dont get one thats too bright in the living room or you'll feel awake all evening! I have them in two rooms and they make a real difference on a cloudy, dull day.

Beth, glad you made an impression on them! Hugs and a bit of a giggle at your expense xxx

Marg, stopped the pizotifen the day before yesterday and head a headache all yesterday but it wasnt bad so I thought little of it. Had a sore head when I went to bed last night but it didn't feel like much more and decided I didn't have enough of the signs to take the tablet- woke up feeling dreadful. I fed the dog this morning and went back to sleep, evetytime I woke up I couldn't see straight. If I had a migraine it was overnight and the tablets wouldn't do much for the after effects. I'm learning now as these are a 'take it when it starts', so last night/ today was a lesson learnt! Thanks for asking, sending hugs xxx

Time to get ready for bed, hugs to everyone, enjoy watching John tomorrow!

Hugs back at you Lorraine, glad you enjoyed your bit of pampering. Thanks for the mention of Big Daddy and Giant Haystacks. Brought back lovely memories of My great nan, who loved the wrestling, she'd swear like a trooper (probably where I get it from!) all the way through and my mum would try to tell her off for it unsuccessfully. Deaf as a post but could hear the rustling of a packet of cigarettes opening from 40 yards! Will go to bed smiling tonight thinking about her! Thanks Laine! xxx

Please don't be cross with yourself (if by that you mean angry or blaming) for getting down (even whilst on antidepressants). Depression is such a wicked disease and has many origins, which also means there's no one right way to treat it. Even within the same person, different treatments can be needed at different times throughout life. Sometimes a med or a method that worked great will quit working and you will need to try another. Sometimes no meds will be needed at all, but instead will need time or a change of situation. Sometimes counselling, sometimes a combination etc. Counting your blessings or as Tracy said, reminding yourself there are others in worse condition can be a GREAT coping mechanism. BUT, in so doing, don't trivialise your own pain (I'm lovingly talking to you too Tracy :). I'm not saying you have to dwell on it - but if you don't acknowledge it & address it, it will rear its ugly head. I liken it to holding a beach ball under water...you can't do it forever. It's going to pop up one place or another (maybe as a different illness, maybe deeper depression, etc. who knows). Another common, but fairly accurate analogy is comparing it to someone with diabetes. If that person does everything within their power such as weight loss through proper diet & exercise, following Dr's orders etc and they still can't get it under control, no amount of berating themselves, or comparing themselves to others is going to make the diabetes go away. They have to go on medication and continue with eating healthy etc to manage it. Absolutely no shame in that & depression is the same way. You have to take charge of what you can (which also happens to include diet & exercise), get guidance if needed - and if that doesn't take care of it, medication may be required too (might be short term, might be lifelong). Let me say it again...absolutely no shame in that.
Holy cow! Did I just get on a soapbox or what??? Full disclosure - I have a Bachelor's of Science in psychology and a Master's in counseling and I was a psychotherapist for a few years. Contrary to popular opinion that depression is somehow a weakness of character - the very opposite is true. People who battle depression day after day, year after year are among the strongest people I know. Same can be said of those with other chronic illness. So Lorraine that's why I've asked you not to be cross with yourself. Go to your doctor, count your blessings, distract yourself - but take care of yourself! Tracy, your awesome attitude is clearly a huge asset (not just for you - but we, and those around you, benefit too :) And, at the same time, it's ok to acknowledge feelings that aren't positive. Bringing negative feelings into the light doesn't give them power - it diminishes their power. Now, metaphorically speaking, I don't think clothing yourself and decorating your walls with them is a good idea - but I'm pretty sure that's not your style!
Goodness gracious, I'll get off this soapbox now! It's just that I've found myself quite fond of the members of this blog and want everyone to feel good about and take care of themselves. And, I don't know how to shut up sometimes lol! I certainly don't mean to offend, so please forgive me if I have (and feel free to just scroll on past my comments in the future)! Rebecca

Oh my gosh, I'm going to gush! I just so enjoy you all! I started reading nearly 3 hours ago (trying to catch up - and that was only on a few days)! I held back from commenting on everything I wanted to because much of it was in the past and I never know if anybody goes back. I planned on reading all of the comments on this offering & replying shamelessly on numerous posts- certain that I would get them in while it was still "today". Then I read Lorraine F's post & Tracy's reply and I don't know what came over me (my own Dr Jekyl OR Mr Hyde of sorts?) and I began what turned into a, well, I don't know what to call it, maybe a speech? It was all said in love...but in great length (as if I'm capable of anything else). Only then did I finish reading the rest of this days posts (and of course, by this time, it was no longer "today"). Anyway, I see that others said basically what I said, but in far fewer words! So, I've used up any time (& then some) I had set aside to post, and I still didn't get to reply to everyone like I wanted! Wait, is that a collective sigh of relief I hear? Well, I just miss catching up with everyone! I read, I laughed, I cried, I typed (one finger mind you because my phone keyboard is too small for more than one at a time), I was entertained. And that's not even counting how I enjoyed all the fabulous cards and videos! This was supposed to be my night to catch up on sleep...hmmm. Kind of an epic fail on that end! I've got to get up & go to work in a few short hours. Maybe I'll fall asleep quickly dream of giving an introductory speech while under a tablecloth & looking at my beautifully manicured & glittered nails. My speach will be so entertaining, the entire audience will wet themselves from laughter (ew, now it's starting to sound a little nightmarish!). Perhaps Brodie will saunter under the tablecloth and I'll follow him on a tour of a lovely new craft room and then a sparkling clean attic with a train set in it. Lo & behold, I'll find a whole boxcar of smoothies (the CE type - not the blended fruit type - that would just be weird). Suddenly I'll be following a trail of glitter that leads to men named Big Daddy & Giant Haystack, who, based on their size and gold lamé shorts (or is that glitter?), I surmise to be wrestlers. Thelma & Louise will then appear out of nowhere (this is a dream you know). They'll take me on a tour where we'll visit our friends in Spain & Australia and other places I don't even know the location of, everyone will have lovely accents. Instead of driving off a cliff, we'll land safely in a warehouse full of Sue Wilson dies & Creative Expressions supplies. All our friends will be there in full heath, Sue will demonstrate & mingle all day. We'll eat marvelous food and at the end of the day, we'll all be able to have anything and everything we want out of the stock free of charge. Peachy bottoms will occasionally dance through the area. Giant Haystack will pull me to the side and explain what "nippers" might autocorrect to - and llll get the joke. Hey, it's a dream... Anything could happen right- might as well be interesting. So off to dreamland I go, wish me luck! Jim throwing caution out the wind and pressing publish b4 I hit review. So who knows! If you like it, I'll take credit. If not it's because I keep falling asleep. Rebecca in Colorado
