You Light Up My Life

Hello bloggers!  I have to admit that I wasn't going to post this card as it got a bit damaged on the frame on the flight home and I missed taking a pic of it before I left.  However, I did think that it is a really fun technique to do and thought you might enjoy seeing it and reading the directions anyways.  All in all, I am surprised that my cards arrive in as good of shape as they do, to be fair!  This is a stained glass technique card.  There are several ways to do this technique, but I still like this one even though it takes the longest to do because of the drying time.  I think the results are worth the extra time.  I started by cutting one of my French Collection backgrounds in coconut white card.  I glued it to a piece of acetate.  Working from the back of the die on the acetate side, you just have to decide which areas you want what colours before you begin.  This is because you want to start with your darkest colours first.  I selected three colours of the polished silk glitter: gunmetal grey, silver and Ice Blue. I rubbed the entire piece of acetate with an anti-static pad first. Next,  I decided where I wanted the gunmetal grey to go and filled in all those areas with Cosmic Shimmer dries clear glue.  I covered them with the grey glitter then tapped off the excess.  I did the same thing again but with the Iced Blue glitter this time and then finished with the silver.  From the front, the entire piece looks like white glue and from the back it looks a real mess as the glitter sticks to the earlier areas.  This is why it is important to start with the darker colours as they will change the lighter colours if applied after them.  Set your piece aside for 24 hours and all the glue should be dry by then (or quite nearly at least).  The colour of the glitter will come through as the glue dries and it looks amazing through the acetate.  I cut a frame from the Grand Large Labels and added it over my background.  I stamped a sentiment and heat embossed it in silver and cut it out with the French Collection tag. I used the Silver distress stain to highlight it before removing it from the die.   I added it in the middle of my card with mounting foam.  I finished the card with a double white pierced mat and added flatback pearls in the corners.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  8" in size.

How appropriate to start a Sunday morning with a beautiful stained glass window!. Today's gift is so ethereal.
I love this technique (when you do it) but when I have tried it is the worst disaster ever!!!! I just cannot get it to work and finish up with glue and glitter everywhere - even more than normal when using glitter -. I have this die on my wish list and I have a feeling that it is now time because 'I need it' and not that 'I want it'.

Cameeli - you're going to have a very busy season and what a way to finish it by becoming a lovely Nan for the first time. Take care of yourself.
Norah - you just keep on fighting. There is nothing more special on this earth than our children -whatever age they are-. We brought them into this world and and will do everything we can possibly do to see them well and keep them safe. I cannot see a battle axe anywhere just a very strong and caring Mum.
Sandra - hope the girls won yesterday and that you had a really good day going through your old dies. I seem to forget what I have before Sue launched her own dies.
Steph - hope today is a better day.

Shopping today for new bird feeders etc to take across to France. Off now to put the slow cooker on - Chicken casserole for dinner tonight.
To all who are in need and not feeling too good hoping the days ahead are better for you.
To all take care and stay safe.
See you tomorrow.

Good Sunday morning Sue & Friends,
I love the 'spiders web' effect of this die, I tried to imagine the technique in my head but it sounds messy, could you maybe do it as a video tutorial sometime? Love the effect, thank goodness you decided to put It on display! Xx
Cameeli, your news is so exciting, just what you need right now, big hugs my lovely friend x
Sophie and Lucy lost 2-1 yesterday, but they were a player short due to one poor girl having her knee dislocated, they got absolutely soaked through to their skin, even a Pauls socks were dripping! Hot baths and hot chocolate all round was a good remedy though!
Today we are travelling to Colchester to see my Mum, looking forward to seeing her, but this journey is a nightmare for me pain wise! It will just about wipe out Monday and Tuesday! Unfortunately I have physio tomorrow too! Bad timing!
Zena, I am so sorry to hear about your burglary , it happened to my mother and father in law, doesn't matter what they take, it's that sickening feeling that somebody has been into your home, your safe place! They are so ruthless too, in our case they took the whole jewellery box which contained so many unrepeatable things like a locket with a lock of elderly relatives hair, the wrist bands from all the children from when they were born, little things that are meaningless to a stranger but mean the world to you! Evil burglars!
Anyway I must go and 'hit the road' ,, have a lovely day everyone, hugs,

Good morning Sue and Wilsonette Angels,
What a beautiful card Sue in the white with just the glitter to add a sparkle of colour. Your French collection i think must be my favourite for background and borders as they are exquisite in their detail. Yes the glitter might take a bit of time to dry but it gives a whole different take on the card. Sorry think you are being a bit harsh on yourself with the "state" of the frame as i think that for being pack up in a case it has done remarkable well and i have seen some of the cards that have been packed flat in a card shop and no wonder they are still on the shelf is all i will say.
Have a lovely time in Austrailia Maggie with your daughter and don't worry we will still be here when you get back. Safe journey flower.
Zena, what a horrible end to your time away in Egpyt, but what a star you have in your daughter clearing up for you coming back. It isn't the dear things that matter somehow, it's the cheap wee things that has a story to them that hurt. After being burgled ourselves when i was younger, i know what you mean about feeling safe in your own home as it's just doesn't feel like it used to. I hope that you can feel better soon and the little ratbags get caught. This is where i think our system is far too soft. I know that in the days i was at the school there were some teachers who were bullies to put it mildly but today's children and young adults have no fear in them as there is no great punishment which is wrong to me. Living next to Glenochil Prison they have everything their little heart desires while out here we have what we can afford. They have the top of the range in sky, tellies, games, education and anything else to set them on the right track again. Honest hard working folk don't have the luxuries this lot have. NO, banning discipline in schools and home has allowed our jails to be over crowded with people who think they have a god given right to anything they want, whether it is theirs or not. I'll get off my soapbox now, sorry but theives ruined my daddy's business 3 times and the when did CID show up for finger printing, 3 weeks later. The 3rd break in they didn't even bother to come out.
Jane and Mr Franklin, i hope you have had a lovely Ruby wedding anniversary.
Cameeli flower, i am sorry that you are not your usual self the now, but i am sending you a big hug just because i care. Oh i bet Christmas can't come and go soon enough for you in waiting for your little bundle of joy coming.
Steph, i know that you will not be exactly jumping for joy, but i do hope that yesterdays little surprise lifted your spirits to give you more ammo to cope with all that you have going on at the minute. I wish i could take some of it away for you but i can't. so just know that i am thinking of you dear friend.
Sandra, give mum a cuddle from me as they are the most precious friend a girl can ever have. They don't judge but support, they don't criticise but see the alternatives, but most of all they are always our first very best friend who we can trust implicitly.
Well done to all the winners, enjoy your prize when it arrives.
Well, i think i will have a wee play today as Campbell is away to see his parents, Rory is watching telly and i am wanting to try out my new stamps and die (Noel frame) out that came yesterday from Sunrise. Have a lovely day everyone and hugs to all my angels who need or want one.
Love and crafty hugs
Norah(Glenochil)

Hi Sue,
I really love today's card. It reminds me of the light at the top of a lighthouse! So your sentiment was just lovely. What a lovely card and sentiment to receive. I too have tried this technique and I was pleasantly surprised how well it turned out! Haven't tried it for a while so need to have another try. Thank you, Sue. Have a lovely Sunday.
Cameeli - so sorry you are not well but hope your lovely news cheers you up lifts your spirits.
Maggie - have a lovely time in Australia. Safe journey and we will bow watch until you get back .
Norah - not sure if you'll remember me asking you about a rainbow book/ card you made. I am going to make rainbow books with my Monday Craft Children. The pages are the colours of the rainbow like yours and we will have a different favourite thing on each page. Took me a while to prep but we are ready to go now! Will let you know how we get on. You are not a battle axe - just a lovely caring Mum and friend. x
Sandra - safe travel to visit your Mum and hope it doesn't make you too unwell - the travelling that is! Hope physio is helping you. x
Have a lovely Sunday everyone.
Sending hugs to everyone.
Love Myra xx

Hi Sue. First of all, congratulations to this week's winners. I think I love everything about today's card. The background die is just so beautiful and I love the frame. I've not tried the stained glass technique as yet but I have to say it's well worth waiting the 24 hours while the glue dries. I'm thinking it doesn't have to be too thick:). As always, thanks for sharing with us. x

Hi Sue,
thanks for sharing this lovely card with us all. Congrats to all the winners and Steph so pleased you won the Wednesday card. Norah just keep on wanting the best for Rory it just shows what a wonderful Mum you are. Pam a special hug for you. Cameeli sorry things not so good at the moment but what wonderful news grandchildren are so wonderful to have I just wish we still had all ours. The youngest 2 have gone into care and we can't have them because their Daddy was only our foster son. We fostered him from 19mths old to adult. He just decided after our holiday in May he couldn't cope he didn't discuss it with us never even hinted. We are dreading Christmas. But we are still lucky as we still have our other two. Love and hugs to all.

Hi Sue, damaged frame notwithstanding this is a gorgeous card. I love the stained glass technique and have made several cards in a similar vein. The wait for the drying time is well worth it.

Sandra - Sue posted a video called Stained Glass Window on 15th April 2014 - a different die but you can see the technique.

Jane - congratulations on your Ruby wedding anniversary and many thanks to all those who have left wishes for hubby and myself on our anniversary.

Congratulations also go to the blog post winners, I'm sure you will enjoy your prizes.

Hi Sue and everyone! Stunning card today Sue,love the glitter technique and the die is soo gorgeous. The card yesterdays was nice but found the middle a bit to busy, sorry. Spent some hours watching your crafting skills and some others at Colemans yesterday, the crowd did not let off until gone nearly 2pm and you were sooo busy, don't know how you doing it but we all love you for it. Bought some gilding flakes and double sided sticking sheet, yelp have never used either before so maybe when you feel up to it Steph you wouldn't mind give me a lesson or 2 or are you to busy signing autographs after winning a Sue's special, you lucky lady :-)anyhow enjoy you fabolous win and congrats to all the other winners this week. Norah-from beautiful Scotland even if it was raining for a week when we visited we had a great time. Cheryl- take it easy, gentle hug. To all on this Blog take care and

Hello Sue and friends,
What gorgeous cards these last two days, and congratulations to the winners, how excited you must be.
Today I am catching up on the blog posts, but had such a wonderful Saturday attending our local scrapbook store's crop. We are fortunate to still have a small, privately owned scrapbook store, so many have gone out of business, leaving only the large stores.
The owner, held the crop at a local barbeque restaurant's banquet room. There were 24 of us there, and we could bring anything we wanted to work on, and eat barbeque all day, too. So, I took my recently received, Sue Wilson dies. I quietly sat in the back at my table, die cutting away, making cards. Most of the ladies I didn't know, and only knew the store owner casually. About noon we were circulating around seeing what others were working on. When a few ladies came to my table and saw the gorgeous die cuts I was cutting, they just couldn't believe it. They all wanted to know where they came from, how could they get some, who made them, etc. Even the store owner had never seen anything like them, except Spellbinders some. So everyone was asking the owner to try to get them in her shop for sale. I don't know if Sue reads our posts, but the owner took the info from one of my die packages. She's going to try to find out if it's possible to sell them in her shop. I wondered if Sue has info I should pass along to her. The shop is Scrapbook Emporium, in Nash, TX, and her name is Micky. Either way, I wanted Sue to know what a big hit she was at the crop yesterday.

Wow Sue
Beautiful card - can't believe you nearly didn't post it! I love the frame and the internal dies, the technique is very good; I'd be a bit impatient waiting for it to dry. Beautiful coloured glitters too, they go exceptionally well together. Love it. Really glad you decided go show it after all. I can't see any problems with it but I know we always see imperfections like they're the size of the moon when it's our own work!
