It's A Friday Double Day

Hello bloggers!  I have two very different styles of Christmas cards for you today!  This first card was a bit of an experiment, but I liked the way it came out so I made it into this card.  I started by stamping the Justrite stamp called Holly Ribbons using a clear Perfect Medium pad onto black card.  I dusted the card with Sparkle Pigment mica in Sunny Gold.  Next, I inked up the Snow Days Background stamp (from Justrite) using a Clear Perfect Medium and over stamped the first image that I dusted with mica.  The image was lifted out of the mica creating an interesting look on the background.  I covered it with clear embossing powder and heated it.  I cut the background into three panels and matted them with Vintage soft gold card and then a wider black mat.  I added them to a larger gold piece using mounting foam. I stamped my sentiment on milk card and cut it into a strip and added it across the card.   I cut two of the Mosaic Poinsettias in gold, offset them to make my flower and mounted them on my sentiment strip. I used a black crystal sparkler with a pearl glued in the centre for the middle of my flower.  I cut several of the Holly Spray die in milk and added them around my poinsettia as accents.  I finished the card with a pierced milk mat, a thin mat of gold, then a final milk mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4" x  7 3/4" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two is an almost all white card, but has just a hint of silver in the shadowing, matting and sentiment.  I embossed a piece of coconut white card using the Swirling Holly embossing folder.  Next Using the Grand Large Labels, I cut a frame for my card.  I mounted it on foam and placed it over my embossed background.  I cut three Christmas Trees (from the Illuminated Christmas Tree die set)in white and one in silver card.  I glued the trees so there were two white ones overlapping the edge of the frame and then the silver one in the centre.  The last white tree was glued atop the silver tree, but just slightly off of centre so the silver tree became a shadow for it.  I stamped my sentiment on a separate piece of white card and heat embossed it with silver powder.  I mounted the framed trees above it. I added some silver pearls to the centre tree as accents.   I completed the card by piercing the edge of a piece of white card, then adding a thin silver mat and a final white mat.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8 1/2" in size.  I hope you will be able to find some elements here that you ca use in your own Christmas cards!  All for now, Sue x

Beautiful cards Sue, love them. No 2 is the one for me.
Heather, so sorry your brother is so ill, my thoughts are with you.
Sheila, hope your birthday was fun, you are my age now.
Zena hope your back is improving.
Thank you for all of Robbies good wishes, he is travelling a very hard road but he is very determined. I think being home for all of the love and joy has also brought reality of the situation back to him.
The hugs basket is open again, special hugs for the babies, Rory and all who are sad or in pain.

Morning all, two beautiful cards today, I like the effect of the first one very unusual and suits the Black theme, the second is so traditional, with a very modern touch, lovely. Thankyou Sue. Off to work now, have a good day everyone. Linda.

Morning Sue, Pam and all Wilsonettes, oh it is double Friday today and what wonderful cards they are, both so different in techniques but both equally beautiful. When I looked at the first card I thought OK different, but then read the method of producing it and saw the close up pictures, and I was hooked.

The second card is so lovely, I like the Christmas tree die (although depending on the card used it can be difficult to cut out and I found you have to put through a few times) the effect is stunning, I love the technique of layering a few of the trees on top of one another to give it dimension and I used this technique on our Wednesday craft club this week, it was very popular.

There is so much pain and suffering out there, I do hope today beings some relief to you all.

Keep safe, healthy and happy everyone, hugs June Smith xxx

Hi Sue. Wow, what fantastic Double Day cards : ) Both cards are gorgeous. I love the idea of overstamping, will definitely be trying that, and off setting dies to create a shadow is such a lovely effect. I most certainly will be using all of these great ideas, and not just on my Christmas cards. Thank you for yet more inspiration Sue : )
Sending my daily hugs to you all. Take care.

Morning Sue. Double day friday is the best day of the week as us crafters get to see two of your stunning creations. Both of these cards are beautiful and both for different reasons. Never tried the double stamping before so i will be giving that a try over the weekend and the tree is a nice clean, elegant card and it has to be my first choice as i made a one last year but it was with the crosses and i was so pleased with it. Have a great weekend.

Thanks for another two-fer, Sue. Really love the first one, just my type of card in every respect. Do like the second but wouldn't have embossed the background. Think my marathon effort with the Spellbinders similar one last year has put me off doing a tree ever again! However, very fond of Christmas trees and their lovely shape.

morning Sue
What a beautiful start to the last working day of the week (for some at least).
I have to say that the C.trees are just in front this week. Both gifts are a true work of art but the tree die is so so beautiful. I have the other tree die from last year and have tried to add a star atop this to make it look a little like yours. Having said that the trees are my favourite I have to say that the holly stamp etc looks very elegant and regal and I would love it to drop onto my door mat.

Pam -Robbie would have found it extremely emotional going home to family and his wonderful Pet but from what I've read he is a very strong and determined young man and will continue to progress even if it is very slowly. Hugs to all of you.
Sheila Ginger - sorry I missed your birthday. Hope you had a really good day.
Myra P - no you don't have to buy another machine. One of my crafting friends had the same problem and I contacted Creative Expressions and they put a new handle in the post for next day delivery and charged £5.
Norah - Hope you get a restful day today after your jaunt. It's horrid when a beautiful day is spoilt by being totally wiped out the following day. It takes all the joy out of it. Hope Rory is still enjoying his college days.
Steph - stay strong young lady. it doesn't matter how long it takes to feel better you'll get there in the end.

We have some sunshine this morning but looks quite breezy. The rose tree in front of the house needs a good cut but as our house is on a corner and at the top of a hill a breeze is like a gale and I cannot stand secure. Another small job for Mr E I think.

To all who are not well and under the weather hope you're feeling better soon. To all take care and stay safe.
See you tomorrow.
Janet.

Good Morning Sue & lovely craft friends,
Wow two Christmas crackers!
I love the originality of the first card, but I think I like the second one the best, maybe as it is mainly white on white, which is always a winner, but looks snowy/wintry too, I have to say I really do love that Grand label die!
I was exhausted yesterday so I didn't get around to commenting but loved the card, I think maybe it was something to do with crafting for almost 6 hours at Pat's house, we had such a lovely time, we were like kids in a sweetie shop looking through each other's dies, that were lots of ooh's and aah's! Pat was the perfect host, keeping us fed and watered, although we were so engrossed in crafting we carried on through without a break really, the time just flew by as it always does, Pete (Pats husband) kept us entertained with his funny stories, I felt really bad though as he had hoovered before we arrived and imagine the mess of 3 crazy women, with three Grand Caliburs die cutting for a good 5 hours, there were bits of die cuts every where, Poor Pete! I even had die cut waste in my bra!
I can't wait for the next time, thank you ladies! If you could see the state I get myself into before I go out you would never believe I enjoyed myself, it's just major anxiety, I wish it would just stop, it's exhausting!
I am anxious today as my Mum is going away for the weekend to a hotel with her friendly Club ladies to Hayling Island, she has never been away on her own and she has never, ever been to stay in a hotel, bless her she is so nervous, I am as apprehensive for her as I would be for one of my children! It's funny isn't it that my 20 year old daughter can go off and organise herself a holiday, pack and go without a care in the world, but my mum is totally out of her depth, it feels like it should be the other way round. I emailed the organiser of the trip though and told her that it was a totally new experience for mum and that she would be nervous, she was very reassuring and said that she would share a room with mum to make sure she was ok, what a sweetheart!
Cameeli, I hope you are ok my love, it's almost the weekend!
Janet, how has Mr E got on a doctor, is it all systems go for Burgundy, I hope all is well and the packing has commenced (or should I say) "you secretly stashing things"! Hugs xx
Myra, maybe email Sue, she could point you on the right direction. It's so frustrating when anything happens to something you use so much, you are obviously a lot stronger than you thought, did you have three weetabix that morning! Haha xxx
Heather I am so sorry to hear that your brothers condition has deteriorated, you must be so worried, I am sending you and him a big, gentle hug xxxx
There is a new post on my blog today, so feel free to stop by and leave me a comment, I am trying to get it up and running like so many of the lovely blogs out there, but I am a bit of a computer novice!
Hugs to all of you lovely, kind, caring blog family members,
Sandra xxxxx

Morning Sue and dear Wilsonettes. I must start with one message before it disolves into the emptiness where my brain use to live ! Dawn S. Ive tried all over for the Grand label and I believe its been discontinued, although Ive not tried ebay.
Well, a beautiful end to a bit of a rough week, and a week without a single moment of craft - on the plus side I received my Wednesday Red and White WOW on Wednesday and it is absolutly stunningly amazingly beautiful. And as Ive not stepped into my craft den since last market, my gift is on my lovely fire place (my first C card of 2014 and its from Sue Wilson) !! Thank you for the kind message you wrote xx
I love both cards and never tried over stamping - unless Ive done it not realising, is that possible ???
I love the crispness of card two, but both are equally gorgeous.
Still trying to tell myself.Im feeling ok and its all in the mind but its not working, so I'll just let it run its course and hope next week is better.
To all those unwell or sad, I send many gentle hugs. To those celebrating - congratulations.
Hoping you have a lovely day if well enough.
Love you.

Two fantastic cards, but no.2 ticks all my boxes.
I had same problem with the Grand Calibur handle, went to my local craft shop and they replaced it free of charge. Nobody should have to pay for one as the item comes under the Sales of Goods Act which states that items purchased should be fit for purpose. This includes movable parts and as Spellbinders recently recalled the Calibur due to problems with the handles, then you should not be charged by anyone or even pay the postage.Creative expressions are agent for Spellbinders so the SOGA applies to them also.
My very best wishes, gentle hugs and prayers for Robbie to recover speedily now he is home. And to all Wilsonettes who are troubled by illnesses.

Good morning Sue and Wilsonette Angels,
Card one is different Sue in an elegant way which i will try with the stamps that i have, but number 2 looks like you have made the middle out of chipboard(looks like it is quite thick is what i mean)as it really stands out with the silver back to it as a shadow. And none of them have a bow anywhere in sight which i know you have done to please all our no bows Wilsonettes. Two beautiful cards that i will try next week when i have cleared the decks a bit with all my sewing and invitations. Thank you Sue for continuing to inspire us with your beautiful creations.
Pam, Robbie will get there not because of his injuries but in spite of them. Mary will need to put her love to one side when making him do what he doesn't want to, as this is the only way that he is going to become stronger and beat his disability to become whole again. She can become mum again when he has done everything he needs to each day, giving him all the love and support that a mother can. He will beat this and with the love of his parents, family and friends he will be strong once more.
Myra P, contact Sue and she will source a new handle for you. Hemming not done yet and will need to be done today as he will need them tonight as on nightshift. He is on the new forth crossing at South Queensferry and although there is a speed limit in place to protect the men on the roads working, the amount of idiots that pay no heed to it is amazing, so the hi viz clothes are so needed. I was trying out the silver diamonti hearts with the ribbon for my nephews wedding invites. I have now everything cut out for the invites except the wording which i need to print of today and cut to fit.
Steph, oh i so wish that we had a switch that could erase and blank out the awful memories. Since we don't have that, i am sending you a hug instead flower.
Heather T, my thoughts, prayers and hugs are with you too, flower.
Tandy, I am thinking of you also dear lady, your son and those wee grandchildren of yours. I truly hope that common sense will come to the powers that be.
My hills have been pinched this morning by the fog, but it is colder and damp up here in the Wee County. I hope that Alison is getting better weather this visit up to Scotland than she has had in the past. Got Kirsten to pick up from the garage as her car goes into have a service and then back to getting these trousers all altered. Have a great day where ever you are today and hugs to all my Angels both on blog and not at the moment, thinking of dear angels not able to make it the now for one reason or another
Love and crafty hugs

Norah - when we were in Edinburgh in July we went to South Queensferry one day. I wondered why the pub was called The Three Bridges! Not living in Scotland any more I didn't know they were building another bridge! The waitress I asked told me it was because the other road bridge was "really old" . Steady on, I said - I remember it being opened! Hope your husband stays safe - why do people not obey speed limits?! happy hemming!
Sandra - just call me Popeye ! Lol . Pleased you all had a super day crafting and ahem talking a little. X
Heather T - how very kind to leave a message when you are going through such a tough time. Sorry your brother's condition deteriorated overnight. Thinking of you and sending love and praying he is not suffering too much. x
Must go as we off to the Lakes this afternoon for a family celebration this evening for my lovely daughter in law's 40 th birthday.
Take care, everyone,
Lots of love Myra xx

Hi Sue
Two stunning cards for us today. I especially like the second as it looks more Christmassy.
I to Dwan was looking for the Grand Labels die that Sue used, but as it is an old one its now discontinued. I mentioned this to Sue when I was at Ally Pally and apparently it's still popular. So I'm hoping this type of die goes on her very large to do list. We just might be lucky in the future. Hugs to all in need of one today. Hope you mum has a fantastic weekend Sandra and take care. We seem to have wore you out on Wed, but we all did a lot of standing, so that probably didn't help.

Brenda said...

Hello Sue, WOW its a two-fer day. Both cards are gorgeous. I think the over stamping on the first one is really clever, definitely will try that. The second one is stunning, love the Christmas tree die, and white on white (well with just a hint of silver) is always a winner for me.
Hope you are enjoying a good day, love Brenda xxx

Heather T and brother - you are still in my prayers.

Sheila (Ginger) Sorry I missed your birthday, hope you had a lovely day.

Sandra, your Mum will have so much to talk about after her weekend away, I'm sure she will be fine. I do understand you worrying about her - But that's because you care.

Sending Friday hugs to everyone LOL

Two beautiful cards today!
I am a white on white addict and love the 2nd one so much.
As it has been mentioned a few times about the Grand Labels can Sue design something similar or persuade Spellbinders to make some more. I have seen a couple of these dies for sale but they are at silly prices because they have been discontinued and I refuse to buy them!!!

Unknown said...

I like both of these and will have a go at something similar to the first card! Thank you, Jan

Bejay said...

Good Afternoon, Sue. Both cards are really beautiful. The three panels on the first one are very effective. It's a technique I haven't tried yet but it's on my list lol. The die cuts just bring it to life. The second card is so elegant. I think all the white on white cards you show us have an added touch of elegance about them and I always love seeing them. As always, thanks for sharing with us. x

Sue, I love both of todays cards andd they can be adapted for posting, but is it possible to do some flat designs (and a little smaller) so we can use them for cards to be posted in the UK? With a lot of cards to send, it gets expensive unless they are flat and small enough for the guidelines.

Yorkielass, we've hit a snag as we can't get booked up for York (unless we pay some ridiculous amount), so it looks as though we'll only be going for the 29th
