Vintage Dress Form

Hello bloggers!  The videos are finally back!  We are kicking off the second series with this simple card using the California Collection die sets.  You have already seen this card, and some of the others to follow when they were posted during the Die Sneak Peek Week so I thought on those days, I would add a second card of some sort to the post, just so you would have something new to look at!  I do hope you will enjoy the videos, but don't forget to scroll down to see the other card as well.  If you are interested in any of the items that I use in any of the videos, you just need to click on the Joanna Sheen button and it will take you directly to the link!

Buy from Joanna Sheen

Finished dimensions are 5 1/2" x 7" in size

This is really a quick, clean and simple card that I made using the Taylored Expressions stamps.  The set is called Discover Your Wings and I applied ink directly to the dragonfly stamp using the Tim Holtz Distress markers.  What I love about these, is there is no rush, you can colour the stamp and really take your time if you lie.  Since these are water based markers, you just need to either huff on the stamp or lightly spritz it with water to reactivate.    I sprayed it with water then stamped, sprayed it again and stamped again and repeated this process until all the ink was gone so you get second and third generation stamping.  I like the sort of ethereal look you get y=when you do this.  I stamped my sentiment in black and cut it out with an oval shape.  I used my Peacock Feathers marker around the edge of the die cut.  The background was simply embossed with the Tied Together folder and then extended to make it larger.  I added white PVA glue dots at all the junctions (just can't help doing that with this folder, can you!)  A double pierced mat and voila it is done.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 8" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Good morning Sue,
After yesterdays delights, here we go again with more winners, and spectacular Two Fers really beautiful dragonfly.

I saw a bit of Julia's slot, yesterday, I hope she is OK sounded like she had a cold poor thing!!
I am just furious at C&C wish we could challenge them in some way. I for one will be watching but walking with my money elsewhere JS's website is brilliant.
I will be happy to get a voucher for Nick from Joanna, her stock is always comparable on price and good value.
Well inching closer to Ally Pally and so is my Sons wedding so just very hectic right now!!.
Sue, thank again for sharing and for the wonderful people on the blog. Hugs and best wishes Pam, Steph, Norah, Alison, all who need it. See you tomorrow and have a great day.

Two cards again 'Sue, you are a wonder. Love them both but particularly the dragonfly and I've got that stamp - hooray! If I get a voucher from Joanna Seen what do I do with it, where shall I send it? I think C and C has become much too powerful particularly now it seems to have seen off QVC and it isn't always a bargain, particularly the postage which is often free in other places! Happy days to everyone, and hugs to those who could do with one!

Good morning Sue and everyone. Can't wait to get home from work and watch the new video. I love the dragonfly card, it's elegance lies in it's simplicity. I agree with everyone, I watch C&C but buy from Joanna Sheen, why pay postage of at least £2.99 when you get it free for spending just £9? I also get my centura pearl card from Crafters Comp as they often have special offers.

Good morning Sue
So happy your videos are back, I love both cards. I made a card yesterday for a friend using burnt orange, cream and brown because she wanted something with orange in it (her favourite colour). I wish I had waited until today so that I could use your idea although she loved the card.
I've had a brilliant idea, why don't Creative Expressions have their own channel on TV? C&C are the only craft channel, therefore they have no competition and that's the only reason they win these 'awards'. I know which channel I would watch. CE have so many talented people working for them they wouldn't need to get guests to demo from elsewhere lol.

I agree with previous comments regarding c&c, they make out that their charges for postage are so good but how is it that much smaller companies offer free postage. I think they have become quite arrogant in their belief that they are the best for crafting goodies.

Great to have a new series of videos. I haven't quite finished watching the last series 'cos I've been kind of rationing them. Didn't want to end up without any to watch before series 2 started. Daft really but like to ration my treats - it makes the pleasure last longer :-)
Like both cards - how lovely of you to double our enjoyment today.
I got quickly disillusioned about C & C - you can nearly always get things cheaper elsewhere and often with little or no postage. I only watch when they have certain guests on these days.

Hi Sue,
Great to see that the videos are back and another two fer - we are being spoilt! Like the layout of the first card, but the subject is not for me I'm afraid - even though my mam was a seamstress by trade and I used to see one of these dress forms every day when I was growing up. However, the second card is right up my street. I love the simplicity of this. The tied together folder is one of my all time favourites and the dragonfly is beautiful. I have quite a few distress markers and also adirondack markers but never think about using them directly on the stamp as I thought they would dry too quickly, so the tip about sprit zing them is fantastic. I will certainly be giving that a go. Do we just get a voucher for Nick and send it ourselves or is there going to be another way of getting them to him? Can anyone advise on this? Love and hugs to everyone. Love Alison xx

Two very nice cards, but do prefer the second one (and TT folder with pearls!).
Love or hate C&C, am always aware that if we don't buy when our favourite presenters are on then they won't be asked back - after all, it's sales and lots of them that they're about. It's a dilemma when we get better service and prices elsewhere.

Hi Sue, The start of the amazing Video's. Today and it was great I loved the New introduction and how you placed The Dies that you used on Boards making it more clear to see, The Video was great Fabulous Tips as always,I love this Dress Form can be used on so many Cards, I love the Colours you've chosen you always seem to be able to choose the correct one's where I struggle, I also Truly love the second Card I so wish I'd purchased "The Couture Creation Tied Together Embossing Folder" as I really, really Love this but I am aware that Couture don't continue with them for long! I really Love The Dragon Fly and the Beautiful Peacock Colour you've used I have this colour and it's Beautiful, I don't have the Pen I only have the Pad but I use it as a paint. Stunning Cards and I Loved The Video I'm Thrilled there back. Thanks for sharing Sue.

Hi Pam take Care x
To all the Wonderful Wilsonettes, I Truly hope your all well, I so agree with you all about Create and Craft as they say there the cheapest when they are Most Certainly "NOT" I only watch when Sue, and any of the wonderful Creative Expression Team are on,
they had JustRite Stamps for £14:99 plus £2:99 package and postage, I paid £10:99 Free package and postage, so They need to stop Fooling us!
BUT on the other hand if we wish to continue to watch "Sue and the Fabulous Creative Expression team" someone needs to purchase from them on
Create and Craft or they Wouldn't have
Sue and the Team back if they didn't sell any thing! but you'd think as a company they'd realize how many more customers they'd get if they looked at there prices! They probably feel they have such a large membership base they don't need to care.
Now to get off my soap box please take care all
Hugs from Sam x

Hello Sue. Happiness - videos are back! But ... just Love the other clean and simple card. You still have the Sue W twist with the pva dots on the embossing folder and the pierced mat, but it's really beautiful. Will give that a go later. I too buy from Joanna as she's really competitive. But we musn't put C&C out of business or we'll lose our non stop crafting. xx Maggie (better without a bow)

Good morning Sue,
I am so pleased the video tutorials are back, I think that they are the perfect solution for anyone who is lacking inspiration.
Thank you for taking the time to make another series, they are such a great idea. Sometimes it's really great to see the 'basics' demo'd, it may seem something really simple, for example 'inking around the die cut sentiment'
It's an easily overlooked step, but the extra impact that it gives the finished piece is unbelievable!
Thanks again Sue, for taking the time to inspire us all!

Love both the cards but have to say that along with so many others I do prefer the simplicity and purity of the second one.
Agree with C&C comments by so many, always going on about their prices being the cheapest and how low their P&P is,I regularly watch but then shop around for the best prices and if they are a small company I like to buy from them direct which supports them more.

Glenharon said...

Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
Thank you Sue for the beautiful stamps you sent to me, i did not have this set(there again, there is a lot i don't have) now all i need to do is have the courage to cut in to them, i wonder if i'm the only one like this as they just look so nice altogether.
Sue, Sue, Sue, what are you trying to do to us at this time in the morning? You have been watching too many of the young peoples dress sense again with a filmy layer over the dress form. They also where their clothes too short and too flimsy that you can see through it to everything they have on offer. I find it way out of your zone that i would have argued black was white that you hadn't done it. The second offering is so elegant and exquisite and so up my street as it has everything that i so love about it. This one is a definite winner in my books.
Thought going through my head today is i wonder if anyone from C&C have read what their customers are saying and thinking, but i hope if they are, they do not take out their displeasure shall we say on our Sues' company. This would be a travesty and totally unwarranted but i wouldn't put it past them, so as i say i worry about retaliations. I have to agree with all that is being and has been said about C&C and they will notice hopefully where they have made their mistake or major blunder and hopefully understand the rest of their customers objections as well as the minority who just can't stand to see some happiness being brought to a lot of innocent wee faces.
Anyway lets not ruin our lovely Sue's blog with bitter taste. This is our haven of some of the most beautiful people in the world and we have just shown what makes us different....our united kindness and need to help, give a shoulder to lean on (there again if you leant on mine i think we might collapse as i manage that all by myself), a gentle hug but most of all, hearts that are big and knows no bounds. We are doing the thing that makes us happy and that is helping in any small way we can and this is why i am proud of our Sue's blog.
Take care dear friends and have a great day. I have a cloud race going on so will hopefully see you all tomorrow,
Love and crafty hugs
Norah (Glenochil)

Morning Sue and Wonderful Wilsonettes. Thank you for your new set of video's Sue cant wait to watch the rest as you work so hard at perfection and that is always what we get from you.
I love todays cards, although in 'real life' dragonflies scare me so much (after having one caught up in my 80's BIG hair at wet n wild water park in Orlando MANY moons ago) I just love the classie simplicity and colour's used, cream I find is so soothing as a background but then you introduce amazing colour just to add a little 'zing' love it. T E stamps MUST go on my 'one day' list one day I maybe lucky to own list, and its growing week by week.
I will be so glad when Ive completed these wedding invites. I know I should be drinking in my daughters day with love and excitement, but I hurt so much (obviously she wont know) is it just ME that seems to stand and craft ? I feel its so much better to get a 'birds eye' view rather than sitting and getting a flat view ! Now Im sounding
completly Gaga !!!
Well onwards I go as I hear the dolcit tones of Mr Lancs with the paper trimmer, so I'll take that hint and love and leave you with love and caring friendly thoughts
and gentle hugs to all that need and want them. Pam - nice to see you maybe a little more stronger at the moment.
Thoughts go to our sad, lonely friends.

Hello Sue,
Brilliant video - Lovely card although this colour doesn't work for me, but then making a card is more about the recipient and I know some friends who would love this colour - also we need to experiments with colours and move out of our comfort zone - otherwise things would get very boring. Examples: cost of 500g is £4.95 (£5.15 from Monday next)
Up to 1kg is £7.85 (going up to £8.05 on Monday).
So not too disastrous and you can stuff an awful lot of lightweight things into a 1Kg package.

Hi Sue. Fantastic !!! It's video day !! I am so glad they are back. I really missed them even though it was only a short space of time !! Hubby says I am a nightmare and have no patience !! Lovely video Sue, some great tips and techniques. I am not keen on the dress form style stamps but I would put another image on the beautiful Californian frames B which is another top of my wish list item !! I love the layout AND the colours you have used for this card. I have the Ginger card and it is not as bright a colour as what it looks like on a lap top screen. I tried to do your little ribbon flowers but just ended up burning them all and gave up !!
I really love your Dragonfly card today to. Really simple but Elegant and the ink pad colours you have used are just beautiful !!
Thank you for all your continuous hard work and dedication Sue. You are such an inspirational person !!
I hope all the Wilsonettes are having a good day today. Take care Sue and everybody Love Tres x x x

Ps thinking of you everyday Pam and Tina and all those going through hard times. Lots of love and hugs to you all Love Tres x x x
Norah and Steph I hope you are ok and not overdoing things to much. Steph try pacing yourself, It is frustrating to have to do it but it is the best way to get through the day. Just have little stops and rests for a while in between your card making. It can help ease the pain and hopefully stop you feeling so ill.
Lots of love to all, Tres x x x

love the dragonfly card sue its beautiful but under stated pure and simple delightful . i will stop gushing now, seems we have other issues on here as well as looking at your fab cards and videos which i watch on you tube regularly, i have brought from js twice last week and i must says delivery is a lot quicker to me in Scotland than c and c plus free postage . i also shop locally in our craft shop, got to support the small independent business too, c and c will lose custom if they dont buck there ideas up!!! i only watch for inspiration now keep up the good work sue xxx

Hi Sue
Just recovering from the wonders of yesterday and here we go again with two more and a video, you really are spoiling us Sue and no mistake. The two cards today are so very different but one thing is the same both are so very beautiful with lots of elegance and charm.
I shall await your further news on what to do about helping Nick as I gather you are to speak to Joanna Sheen. I am quite sure the two of you will be able to find an easy way for everyone to help.
Yet again thank you so much Sue for going that extra mile in the help race.
Sending warm wishes and hugs to those who need them.

Beautiful cards again Sue. Thank you. Love the colours of the first card but, personal preference here, would have used a different stamp. As for the second, stunning simplicity.
Ahh- C&C, what a can of worms we could open here. Too much sales pitch and not enough demonstrating! Like others I watch to support my fave crafters.
Thanks for the video and all you do. X

Two lovely cards but I am with the majority and prefer the colour and simplicity of the second one, especially as I have the stamps. I think we need to stop the C&C criticisms on this blog as we don't want to lose Creative Expressions from the channel. I remember years ago one of the favourite craft experts and her company were not asked back to C&C due to negative comments made about the company, I think it was Glenda Waterworth.
We don't want to get Sue and her team into trouble.

Both gorgeous cards and nice to see your videos back. I agree with the comments about C.C unfortunately because they are the only crafting channel some of their prices are stupid. I love Joanna sheen shop and P&P free over £9 (lets be honest what crafter spends less than £9 in one go). I always shop around for goodies. hugs Theresa xx

Two beautiful cards, lovely to see a smaller card with the Sue Wilson 'magic touch'. The second card is so delicate and wistful. x

Hi Sue,
Hi Everyone,
I have to confess I am not too keen on the first card today! It has too many of less than favourite things! Sorry! Not keen on orange, or dress forms. The combination of orange and brown took me back to Mums kitchen in the late 60's early 70's . Loved my Mum dearly but never liked that kitchen! Ain't memory a funny thing!
I do like the second card and it is lovely to have the videos back. Learned loads again!
Waiting to hear about Nick. So pleased for him at the response you have had.
Steph you asked about crafting standing up - I often do that when matting and layering as I think it's much easier to get it straight - may just be that I'm not tall enough! It's a bit sore on the neck and back though!
Trust everyone has a good day!
Love to all, Myra

Hi everyone,
I've just had an email from Sue re the gift vouchers for Nick. If you want to get one for him, you have to say it's for Nick so that Joanna doesn't go through time & effort of doing a handmade card for each one. If you then send it to Sue at CE headquarters ,she will send them all to Nick at once. Of course you can post to Nick yourself if you want. Hope this helps. Love Alison xx

Hi Sue, I am not overly fond of the first card, maybe I will change my mind when I have time to watch the video. On the other hand I love the second card. The dragonfly is the symbol for the Scottish hospice for children or CHAS as it is better known. This would be a perfect card for them.

I have so enjoyed the video just now. As you say, unusual colours but they work well and look darker in the video. As always, you explain so clearly the steps taken to create such a beautiful card. The second one is so different, quite elegant and simple but again beautiful. Thank you Sue.

Hi Sue
So glad the videos are back. Not to sure about the colouring of the first card today. But love the simple lines of the second card. I agree with Sam and others who say that C & C are not cheap (although they say they are). I have bought from JS and not paid any postage, and ICON.co.uk which are sometimes £6.00 cheaper than C & C on Spellbinders. Apart from C & E shows I also only look for inspiration. If only C & E sold direct from the shop. hugs to all who need it. Norah and Steph you both do to much. Please try to take it a bit easier.

Hi Sue

Nice to see the videos back again. It appears that there is a white line around the dress form in the pictures which actually looks great not sure how that happened though it's like a ghost! Spooky darling!

Of the two I prefer the simple classic lines of the second card but having bought the dress form stamp a while ago and only used it once I am grateful for some inspiration.

Thanks Sue

Hi Everyone,
Sue, hope this is ok ! I bought Pins from Julia to make my own hat pins . As I have mentioned I used old necklaces to make my hat pins . However I have found The Bead and Button Company .co .uk. Have bought buttons from them for quite some time - lovely! However decided to investigate beads. Arrived today - made some lovely hat pins - all measurements are there and I use Glossy Accents to stick them to pins. They have assorted coloured crystal beads and pearl colours as well as tear drop shapes for the top. If this is as "clear as mud" as my Dad used to say , Sorry!
Worth a look - and I am not paid by the company!!
Hope this helps, love Myra

Hi Sue,

Thank you so much for the return of your fabulous videos,
Out of the two cards today I prefer the dragonfly one it is so simple but oh so pretty , I think it's the dress form that doesn't do it for me so maybe if I try a different focal element .
Thanks again for all your hard work putting the videos together for us I know it speak for all of us we really appreciate it .

Lovely to see the videos are back - you make it all look so easy, Sue.
Like the card in the video though I don't have the stamp or the dies. The second card is just beautiful.
Think my craft room needs a mat at the door for me to wipe my slippers as the little bits that come out of my dies keep escaping to the rest of the house - I'm a messy crafter.

Sue, I was so glad to see how you used this stamp for this card. I see these stamps so often, sort of unusual and retro but to me I never know what type of card to make using some of these unusual stamps. Like so much of the travel stamps I see, I never know how to use them. So this was very pretty to see how you made this card. Very beautiful as is all of your cards. :)
