Butterfly Buckles

A very good  Christmas Eve's morning to all!  Sometimes when I finish a card, I end up having some nickname for it and this one was my buckle card as that is what it reminded me of.  I cut the "buckles" using two of the large label dies to create little frames that were just the right size for the cotton hemp ribbon to fit through.  The teal piece I cut to go across and secure the ribbon was one of the fancy tags and I think it worked a treat for this.  I decided to tier them down so I would have a place for my sentiment in the corner.  I offset it with a bow in the opposite corner.  I really like how the backing paper (Graphic 45) has a real country feel to it and so does the ribbon and twine.  I inked around the edge of the paper with Frayed Burlap to distress it a bit more too.  The butterflies were actually cut out of tracing paper I found (I was looking or vellum for these originally) and I really liked the softness that all the layers of the tracing paper gave them.  I added three small pearls to the centre of each of the butterfly bodies to define them.  There is a close up below for you.  And piercing, where would I be without my trusty piercing ruler!  I hope you like it as it is a bit different.  All for now, Sue x

Wow Sue, what a lovely card, so unusual. There are many different dies you could use for the buckles depending if you wanted a male or female card too. Like it!!!
Have a great Christmas

WOW Sue this card is fabulous the colours are amazing together. Such a clever way to use the dies as buckles (only you would have thought of doing that) lol I have tried using tracing paper for the butterflies and they are so pretty when done in this way.

Merry Christmas Heather x

Hi Sue
well couldn't tell if vellum or tracing paper. Us crafters never stick fast. Always find something to use. I have been using coke cans through my cuttlebug for embossing with the folders and looks great. Then cut them out.
This card is unique and colours outstanding as always. One i would bid on if selling or autioning. Merry Christmas eve.

Hello Sue
Christmas Eve Greetings to you too.
I really love this card and I have a "thing" brewing for buckles on cards! I saw a little set of spellbinder buckles but noone had it in stock but now you have shown me a whole new world of buckles opening up before me! Seriously this card has so many attractive textures I want to touch them all. Really lovely x Thinking of you, Vee x
PS You should publish your words for the dies because whenever i get them home I am always thinking: "I can totally see why Sue calls this a ...... die""

Good Christmas Eve Sue and all the fellow followers, I have been so busy today I have only just found 5mins to sit and be enthralled.
I love the innovative way that you have used the simple but useful Large Labels and Fancy Tags dies. I have a paper similar to this that I bought at Hobby Lobby in Florida 3yrs ago and I still haven't used it. While there, I bought some stunners that I am still reluctant to use. Think I better dig them out and admire them again (maybe even use.. ooohhh!!).
Well veggies to prepare as my children here early tomorrow, SO..
To Sue and family, may you find some peace and joy as you celebrate together.
To all blog friends, Have a fantastic and fun filled day.
HAPPY CHRISTMAS love Linda xx

Hi Sue, What a terrific idea! I'm wondering what other dies could be converted into buckles now. Think I saw the buckle die Vee mentioned on an American site some time ago - it was a bargain price too, but at the time I didn't think I'd have much use for it, wish I'd bought it now! I have to say - the card makes me think of stocking suspenders! Nevertheless, a pretty card and I love the colours.
Sue, I can only guess how your Christmas will be, but hope you and your family & friends will find comfort in each other, remembering happier times. Thinking about you - and anyone else who has an empty place at the table this Christmas. Sue x

I really like this buckle card - especially with the butterflies too! But it would only need to change that, to some cogs or something and it would then have a different more masculine feel because the basic design is so versatile
