Navy And Cream Treat

Good morning my crafty friends,  today I would like to share with you a card that I was really happy with when I finished, but did not have a clue where I was going when I started it!  I purchased a pad of papers that were all cream and navy in their patterns while I was in Florida.  I just wanted to have a play with them so that is where I started.  My cards are somewhat predetermined in that I am restricted to certain dies and products that I need to use, this is no exception.  Luckily I had some chipped sapphire distress ink on the show to use so the papers were a nice fit so I was off and running.  I used the In Spades border on the top and bottom of the card and used the small piece of the die to "clip" to the edge of the card.  I think it makes a really nice accent on the top and bottom.  I cut a beaded circle die in navy blue and layered it with the lacy oval die that I had cut into a frame so that the blue would show through.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it with one of the lacy circle dies and inked it while still in place in the die.  I mounted it cross ways to complete my focal element.  I cut a spiral flower out of the navy blue card so that I could have some balance and added another flower which I made from the cotton hemp ribbon.  If you have never used this ribbon, it is quite versatile as you can stamp on it, emboss your stamp and it makes several different styles of lovely flowers too.  I added some foliage in cream, a couple of decorative stick pins  and a swirly pearly spray (sorry about the reflection there) to complete the card.  I have a close up pic for you below.  I have tried to do this recently to compensate for my atrocious lack of photographic skills!  See my shadow in the pic above, I just don't see them until I need to put them on the blog!  No moonlighting as a photographer, huh, I guess I will stick to card making! LOL Well I hope you like the card in spite of all of that!  All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue, Well what can I say greatttttt card yet again. I wanted to make a navy and yellow card recently, but the only navy card I could find where I live was a card that would not fold without cracking, and it looked more like black than navy. Congrats to the winners. Lots of love Jenny L

Love the colour combination Sue. The way the dies are cut and layered to show the darker background is so effective. The spades dies are another one for the 'wish-list', you show how versatile they can be, they looked lovely when you threaded ribbon through them (an earlier posting). Take care, Anne x

Hi Sue

Love the layers and boarders. Sadly lacking on my cards. So ordered a couple (12 inch one too),and the holly motif one too. Bought the hearts ready for valentines. Not that i have that many men in my life.
Love the ribbon flowers yes more things to try. I am in the same boat as "tine 2 craft" lots to try and not enough time,
Thank you for picking my comment as a winner. I tune in for the cards and their construction. Wonderful. Well done Sue. HUG

What beautiful papers - what a good way to start making the card - you have to limit your choices somehow and starting with the papers that dictate what is to be used is a good way - I tend to skimp on papers and buy to much card. Congratulations to all the candy winners, enjoy!
lots of love

The card is gorgeous Sue, as always! As for photographing them - I think it's a terribly difficult thing to do without studio lighting etc. and yours always look very good. We can overlook the odd shadow when we're getting such great inspiration.

You must have been going through your yellow phase when you did this one, but I like it. I have all the dies you used and will try this design out in red black and white, (like yesterdays offering). I had a delivery today on my first Grand Nesties and binding stuff and the leaves ribbon. I hope I can remember how to make the flowers.

I very much love the arrangement of this card Sue. The colours are stunning, and although they haven't come out as you would have wished, I think the inspiration is more in the layout and die usage for us, so please don't give it another thought.

I like the spades border much more than I thought I would, it really doesnt look like it belongs with a deck of cards the way you use it! Particularly love the way you have rotated the oval die cuts when matting and layering.

I have been told the way to avoid reflections when photographing is to avoid flash, and use two lights (with the same kindof light bulb in) each side of the artwork I am photographing. Oh, and to use a tripod. Its not really practical for me though to be honest! I do try and put things on the floor by the window & avoid flash when I take pictures, seems to help.

Another wonderful creation, cream teamed up with a contrasting colour seems to make very 'grown-up' cards. I reallylike it with the navy.
