Woven Background

Good Sunday morning all!  I'm sneaking in another Christmas card since we are officially over half the way there now!  Never too early to get started on your Christmas cards I say!  Today's offering is an almost completely milk coloured card, just a hint of gold from the embossing and matting.  I started by stamping the  Striped Holly Background from Justrite on to milk card.  I used a clear Perfect Medium pad and heat embossed it with Ivory embossing powder for a tone on tone look.  I stamped two backgrounds and cut both of them into strips using the holly pattern as my dividing point for cutting. On each of the strips, I inked the edges with Antique Linen to give it a bit of definition.   I laid four of the strips down on my craft mat and taped the ends, then used the remaining strips to go over then under alternating the pattern with each strip until I had a complete woven background.  I cut a frame using the Grand rectangle dies and used two inside dies to emboss into the frame.  It is quite a bit easier to do all the embossing first, then remove the inside dies, transfer it to a cutting plate then cut the frame.  That way the cut piece does not move out of the dies while you are trying to emboss them!  I added mounting foam to the frame and attached it over my background, then trimmed away the excess from beneath it.  I stamped the Justrite Ornament stamp twice and embossed it in gold.  I cut out the larger circle shape out of one of them and the smaller centre circle piece out of the other.  I added slightly larger gold mats and mounted the pieces with foam for dimension.  I added it to the centre of my card with a bit of metallic gold twine from my stash.  I finished the card with a pierced mat of milk card, then a soft gold mat and a final milk coloured mat.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x 7 1/2" in size.

Now for the Sunday Comment game winners!  This week's winners are:
June Smith!!!
Jayne S!!!
Alice G!!!

From the extra qualifying post of July 2nd, the winners are:
Rach83!!!
Jane Franklin!!!
purplenana!!!

Congratulations all!  Please email me at americansue1@gmail.com to confirm your address and claim your prizes.  All for now, Sue x

Another very elegant card, Sue, do like the woven background.
Thanks to all who wished Sue (and the Wilsonettes lucky enough to go) a happy day at Haverfordwest - YES - it was great (just Sue, the whole Sue and nothing but the Sue - Julia not in on this one). If you don't mind me saying, Sue, you're just like your cards - even more lovely in the flesh, so to speak!! An altogether fantastic day, and great to meet some familiar 'names'.

'P' in Wales

If anyone else out there has a chance to go to a demo day, grab it!! Norah, you're in for a treat.
Jean Deane, hope today is perfect on your Ruby Wedding Anniversary.
Well done to all winners of the comment game.

morning Sue
Who wouldn't want to have this beautiful gift come through their letterbox. I know I would be delighted.
I love the background as it reminds me of a window and the focal point is the suncatcher only this time it has a seasonal theme.
So all in all another one for my C.box this year.
Hope everyone that had plans for yesterday had a really good day.
Lynda so pleased you had all the family round you and your husband. Family means so much.
Norah you must be my twin - I also keep everything sent to me including bits of paper and tags of presents etc. These are very precious memories and as you know we have to have little reminders sometimes and so these are ours. I have my children's cards which were put on their cribs when born; I also have my grandchildren's as my youngest daughter said 'Mum's the keeper' and so they came into my memory box.
Myra - I saw via my laptop yesterday the pics from Leeds and Harewood House and some through the dales. It looked fantastic. Am now keeping fingers crossed that today and the second stage from York to Sheffield will also be a good. How can anyone think that Yorkshire could not outdo London!!
Congratulations to all this week's lucky winners.
Take care everyone and see you tomorrow.

I do like the background idea, and it's a technique I haven't yet tried, but am about to move house,so everything is packed away at the moment, but will have my very own craft room at the new place,so will try it then. I really must start my Chistmas cards, as it will be here before we know it. Have a great day. Xxx

Sunday 'earlier' smiles to you Sue and all Wilsonettes.
What a wonderful celebration of marriage, congratulations Jean Dean on reaching 40 year's - I bet you remember the day down to every hour, as we brides do : )

Pam in Wales, it sounds like you had one of the BEST day's ever, hope you can read this from cloud number 9 : )
Bless you, I can only imagin what it's like to meet our beautiful Sue (Id better stop there before I start and sound like a stalker) LOL !!! Im SO happy you have a wonderful day, and that goes to ALL our lovely friends here holding that 'golden ticket' for all Sue's demo day's
Well done to all winners today, enjoy your gift ladies : )

How I love today's card. That will be my C card colour scheme this year. I have to save for the Grand Rectangle die, it really frames beautifully especially when embossed, I have looked at it so many times but thought I can buy two of your collection for the price of the large dies, but standing in front of it in the craft store staring at it then looking at the new collection fuddles my brain, so I leave with nothing lol !
It will be financially brain fuddling when I 'top up' my C stock as all the items you showed and used on your C show's are so beautiful, from the folders to stamps to the dies and mediums - maybe I should try my luck on the lotto ?!
I hope you had a really lovely day yesterday Sue. It must be lovely for you to put faces to blog names, I hope you continue to enjoy your travels and demo day's as much as your Wilsonettes enjoy spending time with you.
To Pam my gentle cuddles come your way and to Robbie also. To Lynn we want to hear about your little 'B's antics again, we miss our imagination running riot lol. Julie hope life is being kinder to you love. To all our lovely ladies that feel fragile, wish I could take your pain and sorrow for you so you could have one great day at least xx

Have a lovely day ladies.
Love you.

Stunning Christmas Card! I love the weaving and the frame ,truly gorgeous and just a touch of gold , very classy!
Congratulations to all the lucky winners!
Sounds like all the girls that managed to Sue's workshop had a fabulous day to remember, maybe some day ( I can dream) .
Just like Norah and Janet ,I too love memory boxes full of cards and little reminders of special times ( my grandchildren ,5 of them , oldest 11 years, now love to get a peek in and ask questions about drawings and school items that belonged to their mum & dad) they love hearing the stories related to them and I love reminiscing , so happy faces all around! Nearly 5 years ago when the youngest ( Sandy ) was a baby , Abi, Amber and I made a memory box ( as a present from them for their mum & dad) which was a big plastic storage box lined with plain paper which they put multi coloured handprints and Sandy's little footprints on( and one handprint of mine ), so the first memory was in the box! ( and they loved it) .
Got quite carried away there lol!
Anyway , hope you have all had a lovely weekend and loving thoughts to those with pain.
Hugs to all xo

Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
I like the patchwork effect Sue that you have done in the background as it reminds me off times of doing the various crafts with mum when she was working. I love the frame effect that you are using the at the moment, but the dies at the cheaper shop are not in stock at the moment. It with your focal point just makes for a cracker of a card(well it is a Christmas card).
Well done ladies on winning the comment game, i know you will enjoy your new stamps when they come.
OK, yesterday i made a blunder as it should have been a nod we give for a welcoming nod back. I didn't realise that you could get dyslexic fingers, i always thought it was the brain that had the dyslexia not the fingers, ah well i hope Myra knew what i meant.
I've already told you about my summer holidays as a child of mum always landing in the hospital and us getting farmed out to what ever patient in the ward that didn't have a visitor, well in between her stays in hospital she worked there as an Occupational Therapist craft instructor. She always seem to be working as she would bring back patients work to finish off. We used to make all sorts of things up and sell them at the sale of work that the hospitals would put on along with raffles, bonnie baby competition, bottle stalls etc, it was fun. One of the hospital fetes we were working at we took my nana to. Her mum skipped off after a wee while until we heard an uproar. Mum had sneaked in to the bonny baby competition when the doctor who was judging it back was turned and sat on my nana's knee dressed in a big baby bonnet, hair in plaits(it was down to her bum)with ribbons in, a big baby bottle that was for another use entirely in the hospital, and a wee baby dole nightie on over her baby grow. To say that there was hysteria was putting it mildly as all the patients were laughing, the babies(the real ones)were giggling and the staff and mums were laughing. The doctor turned around and looked and said with a dead straight face " Aren't you a little bit old for this sort of thing". She got disqualified on grounds of her age, which was discrimination as there wasn't an age limit on the competition and my mum was the youngest in her family, so technically she was my nana's baby. The doctor was and still is one of the grumpiest doctors on the go, but it brought fun and enjoyment to the patients who were stuck there forever. I hope that the life and times of Norah has gave you a wee smile today.
Well girls that have been so lucky to see our superstar in person i can't wait as i am so excited and i still have 9 days to wait.I am glad that you had a wonderful day yesterday and haven't come down off cloud nine as yet.I wonder who amongst us would ever have thought that we would go through that starstruck experience at our time in life and find out that the idol of our worship is even better in real life and just as kind.
Lynne and Lyndsay please come back as we are worried about you. Sending hugs to you both, to Julie who's going through the mill, Pam who is trying to be a kangaroo on one leg and getting held back with weighty issues, young Robbie, come on young man, don't be getting to comfy in that bed as you have a lot more mischief to get up to, and all our fragile friends who need that wee bit of a hug, i have plenty going. Have a beautiful day like we are having up at my hills which are so beautiful today,
Love and crafty hugs
Norah (Glenochil)

Hi Sue

Wow, simply stunning. No further comment required!

Congrats to the winners, and Pam- hope you and Robbie are recovering well. Hope the rest of you aren't feeling too bad, this sudden hot to cooler and wet is playing havoc with my body- and my mind it seems. I had my specs when I went to bed but now- no idea! Mr Wheelybad is going to lean to see if they've dropped under the bed. I need to distract myself and it's going to be difficult if I can't see much! :-) oh well, just another day in paradise!

Crafty hugs to all,

T x

Hi Sue,
What a lovely card. I really liked this when I first saw it on TV. I love the tone on tone and the whole thing just looks so elegant. So pleased to hear you had a super day yesterday!
Thank you all so very much for your good wishes for Alastair and myself yesterday. We had a super day in sunny Scotland! Yes Norah , thanks for the lovely weather and good wishes and I absolutely got the gist of what you were saying! We couldn't have a family get together until next Saturday because of work and school commitments so we had dinner for two overlooking the Irish Sea in a small hotel near Portpatrick. Gorgeous!
Thanks Tina for the kind things you said - I can't remember everyone and I'm afraid signal will go!
You are such a special lot of friends. Hopefully one day we might meet up.
Jean - many Congratulations to you and your husband on your Ruby Wedding. Trust you have a lovely day too.
June - thanks so much for the news on Lynne and Lindsay .
Alison - hope you had a great time watching the Tour de France. Some of the pictures have been amazing.

Hi Sue,
Lovey Christmas card. Congrats to all the winners. Sorry if anything has happened to anyone but I haven't read the comments as I clicked on a file on my laptop that I didn't realise I had and the photographs have brought the big black cloud back even thicker just when you think you are starting to cope it comes back just to prove you haven't even stated to move an inch. Love and hugs to everyone.

Hi Sue and blog friends

Lovely card today, I love the background.

Hope you enjoyed your day yesterday, really wish I could have been there. Hoping to go to Ally pally with my daughter.

I have'nt read all the comments today, as it has been a very full on day packing up my son's belongings as he is moving out, don't know what I am going to do without him. He is such a lovely , kind gentle young man with a wicked sense of humor and an addictive laugh, the moment you hear him laugh, you giggle. Home is going to be so quiet now both of my children have flown the nest. What I would'nt do to turn the clock back. Hey Ho.

Kind regards to all :-)
