Shaded background

Hi crafters!  I love this card, it is so pretty in real life, but I do have to apologise for my lack of photography skills! The close ups look neon blue in spots!   I seriously need to take a class or something!  Just so you know, it is taupe and aubergine in colour.  With that in mind, have a good look at it.  I started by cutting my Italian Background twice, once in taupe and once in aubergine (eggplant for my American friends).  I slightly offset the aubergine behind the taupe to create a deeper shadow effect.  I glued them together and added mounting foam to the back around the edges and in spot in the centre.  I mounted it over another piece of card that I had covered with a sticky adhesive sheet, then coated with Iced Snow.  It is subtle through the open areas but it gives a bit of a twinkle that catches the eye in real life.  To add an embellishment, I used some striped grosgrain ribbon in the same colours and made a flower following my ribbon rose technique at the top of my blog.  If you saw my demo on C & C on Sunday, it is the same technique that I did with the crocheted ribbon.  I cut several of the faux quilled leaves and a few of the fern trio dies and seated my flower upon them.  I tied a twine bow and tucked it in as well to create a nice focal element as well.  I finished the card with a wide mat of taupe card, a thin aubergine mat and a final taupe mat.  On the first wide mat, I used the Cosmic Shimmer Vanilla Glue to create dots all the way around the card.  The finished dimensions are  7" x 8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Morning Sue, Pam and everyone. I so love the colours on this one Sue, in the pictures which are close up to the flower you can actually see how this would look in real life ... no I am not knocking your photo's because mine are absolutely useless, I find it very difficult to get mine right. Anyway, love the technique and yes I did see you do it with the crochet ribbon on C&C Sunday, when I first saw you cut it in half I thought OMG it is going to fray but - have no fear - Sue to the rescue she knows what she is doing (glad someone does hehe!!) - it turned out so beautifully, I will have a go when I get more confidence. Anyway everyone, keep safe, healthy and Happy. June Smith xxx

Morning Sue and everyone,
A beautiful card today as always, I didn't post yesterday as we had to get up at 4am and when we got back my dog had been really poorly. Won't go into detail, but we have a completely ruined cream carpet, but bless her she couldn't help It, so the rest of the day was spent with her. She weighs around eight stone and just laid around all day, but does seem better this morning.
Meg,we have never met but I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your sister. I only have one sister and can't imagine life without her. Well after yesterday's traumas I am going to hopefully have a quiet day and try and replicate this beautiful card.
Love and hugs to everyone who needs one

morning Sue
What a wonderful technique and one that I'll be having a go at. It certainly does give a shadow doesn't it. Today's gift is also on the simple but really beautiful scale and your Italian die is doing all the work for you. I love those fern leaves - I bought them from your first launch and they frequently find themselves on my efforts.

Cameeli - everything I can cross is crossed for you today. So pleased to see you are in a positive mind but a little help never goes amiss.

Wheelybad - hope you had a good night and that your rehab continues in the way you've been going. Good luck with your task for today.

Sandra - you can visit at anytime when you're passing. We can always find little jobs for anyone who calls even if the grapes are still on the vines lol.

We have sunshine again this morning so making the most of it and going to the weekly Friday market in our little market town.
Walk down the main street through the market; stop and sit and have a coffee at the bottom and do a little people and traffic watching; (it's really funny watching tractors/trailers etc trying to navigate the sharp corner because the 'shoe man' is jutting out into the junction)and then a very slow walk back to the car calling of course on the way for our Friday treat of a couple of wonderful pastries!!

Hope you're all coping with the hot weather you're having and any other difficulties. Take care everyone and see you tomorrow.

Hi Sue, I Really Love Today's Beautiful Card and I don't think you need Photography classes at all, the images are great and you get a great view from the close up shots.
I Love The Taupe and Aubergine Coloured Card you've used (I Love The Aubergine, it's a really beautiful Colour)
I Love The Italian Background that you have chosen it's just Fabulous and so Intricate, I Love how you have cut your Italian Background twice and just offset them giving a shadow image. I really Love how you've placed a piece of card onto a sticky sheet then added The Awesome Iced Snow, then you've placed your Offset Italian Background on top so it show's some of your Iced Snow through your image, it must be wonderful to see the sparkle coming through. I really Love The Striped Grosgrain Ribbon (still one of my all time favourite ribbons) and you've turned it into a Beautiful Flower added your Faux Quilled Leaves,
Mat/Layered in Taupe and Aubergine to finishes off you've added The Cosmic Shimmer Dots in Vanilla, Sue a Truly Awesome Card I just Love every thing about it.
Sue Thank You for sharing this Beautiful Card, Thank You for The Great Photography Shots, the details really help, Thank You for all your hard work to keep this Blog going each day of the year. Sue a Huge Thank You For The Inspiration You Give To Me Each And Every Day I So Appreciate It.

Good morning Sue & Friends,
That Italian background a Die is stunning, you just don't need anything else, although the foliage and ribbon bow (that almost mimics the rose on the background?) lfinishes the card off beautifully!
Everything crossed for half ten! Then you can pop round for coffee & a catch up! ! Oh if only!
Janet, your morning sounds idyllic, would be a perfect morning for me, I love to people watch, it sounds like every gorgeous little French Town, I wish I could come visit you , it's such a shame you set not on our route through France to Spain, we go through Paris, Clermont Ferrand, Millau then down across the border, would have been a lovely stop and stretch your legs point! Maybe one day! Enjoy your lovely morning!
Mine isn't so idyllic ....laid on my bed, eating shredded wheat as girls have some loud action film on in lounge, I am sat here with a very sad kitten, who would not keep his funny collar on, so having to watch him constantly to make sure he isn't 'licking his wounds' I swear Paul was whincing as the vet explained what he had done! Haha,
Norah, Norah tell us a story! Come on I need a giggle, you bought back some funny memories yesterday, as I too was out with my brother and sisters from breakfast til tea, building dens, exploring, picking blackberries, getting my siblings to eat Sloe's, I convinced them that they were sweet and juicy, I have gone on to do the something to my children! Their faces were hilarious!
We had no phone, nobody worried or checked on us, it was a right of passage which due to media stories worrying the life out of us, we deny our children, chances are , like us they would be perfectly safe, but we are considered bad parents if you do not know the exact location of your child 24/7! I think thus has contributed majorly to the obesity issues we have today!
Pat & Sue, hope you are both ok, my bum has just about regained full sensation after our marathon cafe sit in ! I really had the best morning, can't wait fir next time, wish it was next week!
Brenda, hope you are well and not suffering too much in the heat! Xx
Lynne, Lynda B, Pam, Steph, & all, big hugs ,
Sandra xxxxxxx

Good morning Sue and fellow Wilsonettes,
I really do love this background die as it does make such a beautiful card. It is great in the fact that it is so versatile and can be used to make the awkward cards for the awkward people in our lives. 10/10 Sue for another beauty. I picked a pair of pj's for mum because they were wrapped in a piece of this ribbon, needless to say she got the pj's minus the ribbon. But there again she sometimes gets jumpers or tops without the little hanging ribbons, she would never hang them up anyway.
Meg,i am so sorry to read the sad news of your sisters passing. It is hard for me to say that she out of pain now because you will miss her so much. But she knew right to the end how much you loved her and we are all here to give you the love you gave your sister. Sending you big hugs,i just wish they could be physical ones.
Jean(Deane) i am so sorry that i missed your birthday yesterday, not sure how i managed it but i hope that you had a lovely day yesterday.
How is wee Milo this morning Sandra since his operation yesterday? Poor wee fella but sometimes you have to think off the long term. Sending him a hug for being such a good boy.
Cameeli flower,i have everything crossed for you today as you have a plane to catch and some wild living to do and report back to us about. I don't drink but i will raise my coffee cup to you on your birthday.
Maria A, i hope today is going to be better day for you. You can get really quiet electric fans that may just give you that wee bit needed help to sleep, sorry i can't get the pain to stop.
Welcome little Maisy, what a lovely name to give her Julie. Try not to worry about Sophie, she will soon settle down to the new comer and she might actually calm her down, Maisy on the other hand might put a wee bit life back into Sophie.
Wheely Bad, you are coming on so well, Mr Wheely's card will be lovely when it is finished. It's strange to me that men you wouldn't expect to be so interested. My special niece for example, i have known her intended since he was 5yrs old and because i am just the other side of the door at 5'1" he has always teased me mercilessly. I made an engagement card for my special girl like i had done for her sister and he nearly floored me with his thanks and how much he liked it(unheard off from our Stuart). So it is great that Mr W takes such an interest in what you like.
Well i am so glad that i brought back so many happy memories to so many people yesterday. A lot of the simple pleasures of our youth doesn't exist any more and it is a shame as our children have missed out in freedom and simple joy that kept all of us enthralled for hours. I hope that you too Sue could be taken back to your childhood although you were probably more girlie than some of us. I learnt crafting from all sorts of places, but i also learned how to enjoy the simple things and so did a lot of you by the sounds of things. Jim and I were always getting hurt having to get stitched. Did it EVER put us off doing it again...NOPE, we just tried to do it without falling. Oh lovely days of a lost youth, but i was so pleased to read everyone else's childhood exploits and that the fun was universal. Thank you everyone for taking me back to very happy times. Who did bark or brass rubbings? Today's embossing was yesterdays rubbings. Drying out flower and leaves then to using them today in our cards and projects. I laugh at the "new" "upcycling" as our mums were probably all doing that as a matter of course because money was so tight and didn't have a lot. We never had a lot but we were happy and you did things as a family so much more than today.
I have beautiful clouds today, some off them are wispy as if you've pulled it apart and can see through it. There is nothing as lovely than seeing the hills and countryside in all its glory in the summer. Sending hugs to all our fragile friends, take care
Love and crafty hugs
Norah (Glenochil)

Hi Sue. Ooooh this card today is gorgeous !! I must buy the Italian Background die as I really love it !! This is such a beautiful card Sue. You have used some great colours to. I really love how you have made two die cuts from contrasting colours and offset them to make this fab shadowey look to the card. I also love how you have added the ice snow glitter to another piece of card and put that behind also, making a slight glittery look to it. Both are fantastic techniques, producing fantastic results !! I also love the strippey grosgrain ribbon flower to. Your Faux Quilled Leaves and Fern leaves are a wonderful addition to your card aswell. Very clever, very beautiful and very striking !! You are amazing Sue. Your ideas and inspiration never seem to stop !! Thank you for sharing all you wonderful creations with us each and every day. Whenever I am stuck for making a card, I just come and look on your blog, I can refer back to any card I would like to see and read about again and I can look at all your videos and tutorial instructions. You offer such a wealth of support. Thank you, thank you, thank you Sue. I am so grateful. Well I love your Faux Quilled Leaves, but nothing has prepared me for your amazing Petite Vinery Dies !! OMG !! You have made a die that has both leaves and swirls combined together in the same die. ( I love, love, love swirly dies.) You have made a left facing die and a right facing die. They are Sooo beautiful and so very versatile. I can now put leaves and swirls any where on my card, at whatever angle I like and they fit and they look fabulous !! You just know exactly what crafters want and need to make gorgeous cards. Thank you so much Sue, you are so clever !!
I hope you have a lovely day today Sue. Lots of love From Tres x x x

What a beautiful card, gorgeous flower as always.
WELL ladies (and gents) I have a confession to make, I wrote to Sue to tell her that I wouldn't be commenting on the blog any more as I found it very sad and I was in a very bad place at the time and found it difficult to cope. Please let me explain, I know there are many Wilsonettes out there who are ill or coping with the sadness that life brings. I have been quite ill for over 13 yrs now and while I used to say Thank goodness for Morphine I am now passed that, and morphine does not touch the daily pain I have all through my body.I now take the strongest painkiller they can give me without me being in hospital, and I use more and more medical equipment to keep my body functioning. I have never felt able to say these things except to family and friends and then realised that maybe the Wilsonettes are my friends. I love to craft and although I have had several operations on my hands I am lucky enough to be able to enjoy making cards it is the one thing that keeps me going and keeps me sane, even though sometimes I am crying while I am crafting.I am not telling you all this for any kind of sympathy but to explain why I didn't comment for quite a while. Then I realised that it was me that was actually suffering for not being on the blog and enjoying the cards Sue shows. I want you all to understand I am proud to be a wilsonette, and realised that maybe my experiences might just help someone else. So I will be blogging again and reading all the comments, sad or not, and if I can help anyone with anything I will. I hope you all understand. Hugs Theresa x

Hi Sue,
What a beauty today! I love this die and use it a lot but today's offering adds another twist! Never mind the photography we can clearly see the card and the description and pictures do the rest! It was a flower just like that which gave me such trouble as the ribbon does tend to fray. I am improving - there was a lot of room for improvement believe me!
Theresa - thank you for being so brave and trusting to post today. Everyone tries to help each other here as you know and we enjoy the fun things as well. Sue's cards are the reason we check in daily but sometimes it helps to talk to people and there are many on this blog who suffer a lot of pain and who can really empathise with you. Sending crafty hugs to you.
Janet - your trip to the village sounds idyllic - wish we were there! Enjoy.
Norah - you got me thinking about up cycling ! My Mum made a lovely floral frilled skirt for a treadle sewing machine! Mats were put on top and a triple mirror! This was a dressing table in a little spare bedroom! Single bed cover and curtains matched and the seat cover on the chair! She used to go in their to sew and that's where I learned too. Thanks for reminding me.
Meg- So sorry to hear about your sister. Thinking of you and sending love.
Must stop! Love to everyone - hope you have a good weekend.
Love to Pam and Robbie
Cameeli - hope your news is good.

The colours look good to me but reading the text they are not as you described. The picture you took is good - it's the artificial light that has distorted the colours.

Good Evening Sue and my Wonderful Wilsonette friends.

I love the colours you've used Sue, purples are a favourite of mine (and blue, and teal, and pink, and black lol). The flowers and quilled leaves (hurrah! Ordered some from Julia today with some embellishments and some cream/ black ribbon- a little reward to myself for not listening to the hyperactive little devil WheelyBad that sits atop my shoulder telling me to do more than I should!) the whole ensemble looks stunning. The layer, colours, details... just lovely I thought your photo was pretty good! My rule is to always photograph in daylight (sunlight or a bulb that simulates it).

Meg, my most sincere condolences to you. I cannot begin to understand how you feel.Just know I'm thinking about you.

Theresa(TOB), Thank you for sharing, you are amongst friends here so please don't stay away. Pain is understood here, physical or emotional and is shared, along with our successes, joys and sad times. There is so much genuine care here. Craft is our thing, Sue is our Crafting Queen, it's a therapy, a shared love. Please do keep posting hun, I have felt so much happier since I have tried to post everyday, it's my 'outside world' if you will. Doesn't matter even if you just say if you're having a good or rough day- we will talk back cos a fair few of us know where you'll be coming from. I will be thinking about you like the others will be, Gentle hugs of understanding for you xxx
Cameeli, I hope the Dr visit was ok, have a lovely trip & a great birthday.
Lindsay, how exciting! I've always loved horses even though once past the age of 10/11 I couldn't ride them. Beautiful majestic creatures- obviously my favourite breed is the Suffolk Punch!
My gosh, thank you all again so much! I did sit at the table today. Shame I faffed, spectacularly so. I couldn't decide at all what to do. Achieved a card blank, a colour scheme and 8 different ideas non of which I actually started on. Need to decide, plan tomorrow when back to the balance blob and resting then hit it Sunday having made a decision. I got til Tuesday. He's a craftsman as well, his medium is bricks though. He used to restore listed buildings and can make amazing patterns with bricks that blew my mind when I saw him do it- plus he can paint and decorate to a phenomenal standard too and appreciates any good design or piece of art. I like to really push myself when I make for him- cards, jewellery or home items over the 16 yrs we've been together. He deserves it with the stuff he does for our little family!
Big crafty hugs to Sue. Thank you for having this blog and letting us share our love of crafts and to be here for each other, Crafty Hugs for Pam & Robbie, Yorkielass June, Norah, Janet 'Ecco', Alimecca, Lynda, Lyndsay and Wilsonettes the world over.
