Wednesday Weekly Card Giveaway

Hi bloggers!  Today's giveaway card uses one of my all time favourite techniques called "caught in crystal."  It is truly a shame that you can't see this one in person (well one of you be able to!) because the photography just does not pick up the depth of colour and bling that this has to it.  I do have this technique as a tutorial at the top of my blog, but to give you a quick rundown, you need a piece of acetate, some crystal lacquer (or glossy accents), alcohol inks in three colours and some mica powder.  You lay down the lacquer first, then drip your alcohol inks into it all over, and dust with mica powder.  Then you crumple up a piece of tissue paper (like you use when you wrap a gift) and open it back up, but don't smooth out the wrinkles.  Dab it in to place using a wad of kitchen roll and set it aside to dry over night.  Once completely dry, cut it to size in a paper cutter and stamp on the smooth side of the acetate.  I used the Justrite Shabby Chic leaves set to stamp on this one.  I used black archival ink and let it dry overnight (as my acetate wasn't heat resistant so I didn't want to emboss it).  I stamped my sentiment from the set in black on white card and glued my crystal background to the top.  (A little tip when doing this technique is to mount it over white card and the colours really pop!)  I cut a Curved Border Two in black card and added it between the two sections as a decorative divider.    I tied some black and white Bakers Twine in a bow and added a black button as an embellishment.  I did a bit of matting and layering with white and black card before finishing with  a double white pierced mat layer.  Finished dimensions are 7 1/4"  x 7 3/4" in size.  If you would like to be entered into the drawing to win this card, you just need to leave a comment on today's post and check back to see if your name is drawn which will be posted on Saturday's post.  All for now, Sue x

Wednesday smiles to you Sue and early riser Wilsonettes, we'll get the kettle on, bread ready in toaster ready for the Wilsonette women just getting up : )
Not had the best of sleeps after yesterday's marathon injectfest, but heyho there ya go, could be worse, I should have stopped after my waffle here last night, but ooohhh nooo not me, couldn't leave Mrs Watts out and planned to just peek round the door to see Julia's Tuesday offering, but the 'wafflespot' took over, it was such a lovely 'me card' how could I NOT leave a quick(ish) comment : 0

Anyway, back to present time, my hands are so sore after all those injections yesterday, and I need matchsticks to prop my eyes open, but they are open enough to see this W.O.W (Wonder Of Wilson) I wonder if you were to use 'icy' frosty colour's if you would get the 'frost on the ground' look whereas this looks like the start of a magnificent sunrise on a September morning, I dont have ANY of the mediums used for this card but Id love to know or see a card using this technique but in silver's white, and sparkles and maybe those frantage wotsit thingy pots I have seen but not bought ! Shame I dont have an 'experimental' fund pot so I can save to buy toy's just to experiment with ! My recycle paper bin fills up quick enough without having the binmen shout over the wall " experiment gone wrong agen luv" as they cart away a bin full of glittered/embossed/guilded card laughing and telling me 'to give up' and take up knitting or stamp collecting (ha ! Little do they know Im trying out stamp collecting - but NOT as they know it) : )
Well, I can hear the shower running so I believe more Wilsonettes are on their way, I'll go flick the kettle on and start the toast, have a good day everyone, stay warm and happy, and good luck for the draw ladies.

Love n hugs.
Lancashire (better without injections Steph) xxx

ps Tina - June is our daughters big day, how about you hon ? xxx

Hi Sue. Todays card is truly amazing !!! It is sooo very beautiful !!! Autumn is my most favourite time of the year because of all the gorgeous colours. I really love, love love this card. A great technique to try but I do not actually own any alcohol inks !! To be honest I am a bit scared of them and I really have no other ideas what I could use them for. I have always concentrated on decoupage, stamping and my gorgeous spellbinders obsession !! Your colour combo is just fab and I have the justrite leaf stamps. I do not have the border die but it does look fab too. I would really love the chance of winning this card because it so beautiful and just my kind of card !! Wishing everyone lots of crafty happiness and Lancashire Steph I hope you are feeling a bit better now. Take care lots of love Tres x x x

Hi Steph

I like the idea of the icey look for the background, might give that a go on my late Christmas cards. I have'nt started yet. I only finished my daughters wedding invites early hours Monday morning. that's the problem of making bespoke cards, when she keeps changing the design, but like you say Hey ho. My daughters big day is in April, and then she is having a blessing in May and weather permitting a garden party to follow. Would like me to help you with that bank job? I'll even carry the money bags for you.I think we are going to need it. Look after those hands of yours and take care, and don't stop writing I look forward to that.
Kind regards Steph

Love this technique. Haven't made any though for a couple if years. Must be time to have a go. I use a clear floor polish instead of glossy accents, a good deal cheaper! It's the one that dries to give your floors a shine. Never use it on the floors just for caught in crystal, so let's hope I can find it it the back of the cleaning cupboard!

Thought it would look great for a winter wedding card I need to make.
