Asian Design In Kraft

Hi bloggers!  I know it is a bit different to see black flowers on a cherry blossom twig, but I just love the combination of kraft card with black and red.  I did them first in red and it just didn't work for some reason.  I like the black flowers, it gives the card a more mysterious feel to it I think.  Whether you like it or don't though, I hope at least it will show you that you can try different colours rather than just traditional ones and step outside your comfort zone a bit.  I started with a piece of kraft card as my background.  I very lightly inked the edges with black soot.  I cut a wide strip of red card and embossed it with the Asian embossibility folder.  I matted it on black and wrapped some red Bakers Twine around it before adhering it to my kraft card.  I stamped my sentiment on milk card and cut it out with the Asian Motif.  I inked it with Antique Linen while in the die.  Next I cut my cherry blossom branches, I used the reverse side of the kraft card and inked them with Antique Linen.  I cut a bunch of the smaller flowers in black card, but cut the largest flower in milk card twice.  The large flowers I used in the corner of my Motif with smaller black flowers atop them.  I dotted the black flowers around my twigs and put tiny flatback pearls in the centres of all of them.  Matted the entire card in black and pierced the edges.  I am glad to see a touch of the Orient coming back into style as I really enjoy the look.    Check back later this afternoon for the blog candy drawing winners.  All for now, Sue x

I love all the Asian dies and the embossing folder. They are some of my favourites.
The way you combine them with the Cherry Blossom dies really extends the oriental theme.

Hi Sue, yes I do like the black flowers. It's interesting to use colours not usually associated with flowers and other things. The Kraft card is beginning to be used more often and the colours chosen compliment each other in this crd. Love it. Look forward to seeing the winners later today, fingers crossed.

GM Sue - a very different feel to this card today and I am not sure I like it if I am really honest with you - but then that's a good thing in some ways, as if we all liked the same, the world would be a very odd place me thinks!

Hi Sue

Lovely card I think the black flowers just pop and bring out the cherry blossom from the craft card and the embossed red just finishes it off nicely. Nice to see oriental making a comeback.

morning Sue
I am guilty of not trying 'out of the box' colours but after seeing today's results I have given myself a note to try them out.
So thank you for showing me that it does work. Crafting this week will begin with using colours I don't usually use.

I really like your black flowers! Weird though, the last card I blogged is red, white and black and uses the cherry blossom die too. I made the branches black and the flowers red. This red and black works really well with oriental style cards I think. Have a great weekend sue, Maddy x
