Hi guys! And we have another winner to add to the list from yesterday. The post of January 2nd had over 100 comments so I randomly picked number 15 which was the comment left by L00py's craft creations!!! Congratulations! I love giving stuff away, this is fun! Email me to claim your prize at americansue1@gmail.com
While I am on the subject of prizes, we are halfway along to our next big blog candy drawing too! In case I haven't said it enough, if you leave a comment after each new post, you will get extra entry chances, thereby increasing your odds of winning! That's all I'm saying, the rest is up to you!
Now on to the subject of today's post. I love this card, not sure if it is just the black and white or the simplicity of the trees or the multiple layers, but it sings to me. One thing that I never ever do is cut something out and leave the edge of the paper showing, but I needed to do it this way for the trees mounted in front or they looked very flat. The tiny white edge gave them a bit of dimension, especially the one that was partially mounted over the black background. I have added a close up so you can see what I am talking about. The close up also shows the detail of the hounds tooth embossing folder on the frame I cut out. The rest of the card is fairly straightforward. I stamped the smaller trees on black card using a clear perfect medium and whit embossed them. I used the white Inksential pen by Ranger to add snow dots and draw in some hills. I stamped my sentiment in black and clear embossed it and added some of my favourite paper piercing around the edge to finish it off. I hope it sings to you too! All for now, Sue x

Another beauty.
Sue
Such an awesome card again Sue. I too love trees and have a couple of stamps with some simular to these, so better get them out and see if I can´t make something as beautiful as this. You´re always ahead of all of us here, and as I don´t want just to be a copycat, I better put my head in the thinkingbox and make something new and special with them ha ha ha.
Super card Sue. The black and white colour scheme, the simplicity of the design together with the layers create an elegant, classy christmas card. Just love it.

Lots of love. Jenny L
Elegantly simple but I love it. I see what you mean about making the trees pop with the bit of white left on the edges. The paper pricking really stands out on this one too and looks fabulous.

Beautiful elegant card.
Hi Sue,
Another lovely card but you have got me thinking too and it would make a suitable card for any time of the year changing the black to various shades of green during the year to reflect the season minus the snow though - I will experiment!! Thank you once again
love from Jackie D
Hi Sue
well takes your breath away, can feel the ice cold air. Love the foreground and background dimension. Brill. U have an amazing eye for detail.

Hi Sue
What a lovely elegant card. Although I realise it's black and white-it looks cream and d.brown on my screen and still stunning.

Hello Sue,
What a stunning card, love the monochrome, I have the tree stamps but they arrived too late to make 2011 Christmas cards, thanks for the tip to leave a little white around the edges when using on monochrome work. What a treat you have given us in 2012 already and it is only the 4th, thanks for you hard work.
Lots of love, June xxx
What no bow? lol
That is really beautiful, and the sentiment is lovely.
Tracy x
This sings to me as well because I love trees (well I love nature in general) Much as I love Spellbinders stamping will always be my first love. I like to have something pictorial on a card as well as interesting shapes. This card also emphasises the paper pricking technique which sometimes gets lost among the more elaborate cards.
Hi Sue
This one is simple, elegant and a Beaut

Hi Sue, I love this card. I like what you have done with the cutting out of the trees and explaining it to us. Santa brought me the H tooth folder can't wait to use it, he also brought me the Dvd, smashing is all I can say.
Sue C
Love trees love this card as you say I think it's the simplicity of the trees and being black and white!
Maggie
How do you manage to keep them coming. Beautiful elegant card! I have similar stamps can't wait t play. Sue your cards certainly help with Crafters block lol. x Craftylicious x
I love that expression "I hope it sings to you too!" - I think only a crafter/card maker would understand how that could be :) It's another lovely card.
beautiful card Sue. simply elegant
jan x
I can only echo what everyone else is saying - a beautifully simple but so elegant card. I had the same thought as Jackie D; in another colourway it would be good all year round. I can see the sun rising or setting on green hills already! Your inspiration is never ending.
Oh, and congratulations to all of yesterday's winners too.
Frances
Great card Sue
Very nice idea with trees Sue!
Hi Sue, It sings to me as i like monocrome and i like using my tree stamps, another winner. Yvonne xx
As they say less is more, sometimes just simple colour combinations are enough. Yesterdays card is fab in different way, but if they were all the same that would not be crafting. I never, ever make the same card twice.
Lovely card Sue

Hi Sue,
A very elegant card that will do for many occassions.x
Hi Sue,
This is a great card and I can't put my finger on weather it is the trees or the way you have arranged the whole card but I love it anyway.
Carol x
I love black and white, it is so elegant, another beautiful sining card Sue, I wish I was as gifted as you and had half as many ideas, tfs Helen O xxx
lol that should have said Singing!! not sining!! Helen O xxx
Sue I love this card. Classic & elegant. Shame White us so notoriously difficult to photograph or scan. For whiter whites & truer colurs I would recommend using a paint/ photo/ crafting software that enables you to alter the levels of red, green & blue, change the colour tone & alter brightness & contrast, whilst also enabling you to save in a useable format. My Craft Studio Professional is cheap, easy to use & fulfills these needs well. However, there are many on the Market so shop around. Some cameras / scanners even come with software for this so it's worth checking your disks.
Every photographic / scanning device has it's own colour bias ( due to the numerical software) so once you have altered one image ( to what looks good to you) you can apply these corrections to all your other images in the future ( taking a few seconds), only a few occasional tweaks should be necessary.
Having said this I like the cream look = v.vintage. I would never have tried this for a snowy scene but am going to give it a go.
Congratulations to the winner.
Thanks Lindyloo & Sue for the information on glints. It's much appreciated.
With love & light Theresa. H

Hi Sue
Nice card like the trees very elegant. joyce e

The perspective of the trees is great.

Dear Sue , A Lovely card - I really love stamped trees and these are very nice. I really admire your matting and layering, Vee x
Hi Sue, well this card sings out loud and clear to me - maybe because it is monochrome and Black & white is always so classy. That's a clever liitle tip about leaving a tiny white border it definitely gives depth and perspective.
Lovely card I love trees. I thought it was cream and black, makes more sense white and black. Hugs x ChrisB
Lovely card.
Love this one Sue. It is charming in its simplicity. My 5 year old g.daughter had to do a magical snow scene for school and came to grandma for help. I looked through your cards and we made a lovely scene. A snowy hillside with torn paper hills, flower soft and glitter snow on hills and sky. Then we cut out a Crafters. Companion ,snowman, walking in the air, !! Your inspiration can be used for all sorts of things. Thanks a bundle.
Beautiful card Sue! love the stamping and color
Nice one Sue, rather tranquil and relaxing, would look good in a frame, then of course all of your cards would. xxx thanks for showing us.
The hounds tooth is lovely on this card, it is very dramatic but simple at the same time. Another great card Sue. Regards, Anne Rx

Hi Sue,
This looks to be a lovely simple card but still very stylish. I have just done a card and copied your pricking around the edges. It does really make a feature on the card and so easy to do.

Hi Sue, I'm fascinated with the difference the white edge makes - would never have thought of that - guess it's the exception that proves the rule, as they say. My hounds tooth folder arrived today and I think it will be used a lot, as so suitable for male cards. I haven't bought the tree stamps YET as I have so many tree stamps, but will have to have it eventually as I particularly like the treasured friend sentiment which, I think I am right in saying, is on it. Congratulations to the new winner. Sue x
Another beautiful card. Hoping with practice I can achieve the perfect layering with my stamping giving that natural depth and dimention to my designs
beautiful trees - love this card - it must have been a lot of fun stamping them Sue - they look wonderful.
lol lilygee xxx
This is very beautiful, I love the colour scheme
Beautiful card- I love black and white - so classic
Hi Sue, I absolutely love the clean look of this card, you can never beat white and black combo with a twist! Love the understated but high impact dimension you given the trees. I don't believe i have this particular stamp set either, like sue Parish said; I’m going to have to get the stamp set!
(Thanks Linda-Lindyloo for supporting The Royal College of Midwives e-petition in recruiting 5000 more NHS Midwives in England and I always look forward to sue’s postings and reading your comments- breath of fresh air!) Hope you don’t mind sue.
Hugs, Bim x
Hi Sue,
I am sorry to be so late posting my comment today. I am still a little low and my mojo is still on holiday somewhere else at the moment.
Anyway my dear blog friend, this card today reminded me of a song I used to sing in choir and have loved ever since: 'See Amid the Winter's Snow'..... and the lines: 'As we watched at dead of night, Lo, we saw a wondrous light' especially fit your adorable creation. (The black trees in the foreground give the impression of a bright light around the trees in the background.) Genius.
I see Christine is on C&C around the 17th Jan with a Spellbinders POTD. It will be lovely to see her work, but I will miss seeing you there. I hope you are able to follow behind her very soon, but hope you don't rush yourself.
Regards as always Linda
Dear Sue
I've followed your blog for sometime as I enjoy looking at your beautiful dimensional cards, but this is the first time I'm making a comment. I bought this stamp set recently but felt silly for spending more money on another tree stamp set as I already have so many. However, after seeing your card I saw the stamps classical simplicity once again. Thank you for inspiring me again.
Best wishes.
Paola
By the way I absolutely adore your DVD.

Hmmn.. curious how you got the white edge around the trees? I'll figure it out in a bit!! lol, Lovely card though just scrummy in its simplicity, if that makes sense?
Lovely card Sue, been wondering what to do for brother-in-law this month so I think you have solved that problem

Love the card today. It looks as though you have sewn round the edge without thread in the machine. Or did you painstakingly do it by hand?
a very elegant card, I love it
lovely card - still love those tree stamps too! Simple and elegant as ever, also liking the subtle touches - the way the black mat shows through the piercing complementing your white snow.
Love this card simple idea but brilliantly executed ( as ever) One to save for next year!
