At Play With Vellum

Hi there crafty friends!  Today's card was a bit of an experiment and the judgement is still out on this one for me.  In my minds eye, I thought it would be a really pretty combination of the pastel pink and burgundy with the vellum overlay on the sentiment and the butterfly.  It wasn't one of my favourite cards but I didn't think it deserved orphan status either.  It has grown on me a bit though.  I used the Washed Away embossing folder to create both pale pink background pieces.  Both were matted with ivory card then burgundy.  I added a bow from the burgundy frilly edged ribbon with a decorative pin for an accent.  I stamped my sentiment on ivory card and cut it out with the lacy oval dies.  I cut one more in burgundy and one in vellum also.  The burgundy die was mounted slightly offset to look like a shadow and the vellum was mounted over the sentiment to give it a softer look.  I hid the adhesive with tiny pearls around the edge.  I cut the large butterfly out of burgundy card and also vellum and mounted them together with some pale pink pearls for the body.  Maybe it just needs some piercing!  What do you think?  All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue
Lovely card, my personal opinion is that it does not need anymore on it. I love the butterfly when you put a darker card underneath. Definitely not an orphan card.

My favourite butterfly die is always a good start unfortunately I cant see the colours as they look yellow on my screen but they sound ok. As you say a pretty card. x

Another beautiful card although I don't think I am seeing the colours as you describe. I don't think any of your cards should be resigned to the orphan collection they are all gorgeous in their own way. xx

I agree with others, definitely not an orphan card at all. I am also not seeing the colours as you described, but I love your combo. :)

hi sue, I think this card is simply elegant, and I love the butterfly, sometimes less is more and I certainly think this is true of this card, it doesn't need anything else.

Love the colours and embossing and beautiful sentiment. I would be tempted to put some paper piercing in the corners maybe our on the outside of the sentiment to make it pop more.

Hi Sue this is just lovely....I really dont have much fun with vellum, it either cracks in the embossing folder or I make a mess attaching it ....so well done to you for such a lovely card.....whats the weather like over there? take care Margaret

Hi Sue, wonderful card. Pity the colours don't show as true on the computer. I bet the colours are great if we could see them in the flesh so to speak. I made a card in burgundy and yellow those colours look fab together too. Just love the butterfly die. I use it on most of my cards because I love it sooooooo much.
Lots of love. Jenny L

Hi Sue

could it be there is not as many layers as normal?!?! I like the texture you have put on the card. I wouldn't want to detract from that. I am going to do the shadow effect on my next card as like that look a lot. Then the bow. Well the ribbon is beautiful both in design and colour. Ah no topping on you bow could that be what is bothering u? No button, or twine or jewel? Yes think that would finish off nicely. But still love your work. Well done Sue.

You've used my favourite butterfly again...personally if this butterfly was adhered to a black bin liner it would make it look beautiful! He! He! Seriously though, I really like this card Sue, as usual your choice of colour scheme is gorgeous! Carole Z xx

I like the way the butterfly is off the edge, it makes things interesting, I like it but we all know sometimes we have an idea and it doesn't end up how we expected, people say 'oh thats nice' but we know it wasn't what we wanted. It is still as always a great card

Sue, this card is nowhere near being an 'orphan.' I love it!

This is lovely I like the vellum overlay - gives a subtleness to the card. I struggle to find uses for vellum, but this is a brilliant idea.

I do love this card. Definitely a winner for me too. Yes I like the use of the vellum it adds a subtleness to the card.

Hi Sue, I love the card. You are such a harsh critic.
The butterfly die is definitely the next one I intend to invest in, as it really adds something to a card. A very good friend currently uses her's to cut butterflies for me & sends them through the post. But I really need my own. With Love & Light Theresa. H

Since I love butterflies, I was especially excited to see the quote you put on your card. I am definitely going to use that! You know, it's sometimes difficult to know when to stop with a card. With this card, I think if you added one more element, it would ruin the balance and so you'd have to add even more elements. But, as it is, it's a lovely CAS card and I would not change a thing. I hope that made sense! lol

Hi Sue. Think this card looks lovely as it is. Unfortunately the colours are not so clear on my computer (looks a bit yellow) but the combination of pink and burgundy is great. Love the use of the vellum.

Hi Sue,
Hope you are well and are taking some time to relax.
I love the use of vellum to overlay an image or a greeting, it creates such a soft almost ethereal effect. I love pure white over a christmas image to give the impression of frost.
Thats a lovely embossing folder you have used, I don't have that one so must look out for it.
Take care Linda

I love the butterfly and the ribbon & bow, I think The shadow cards work ,I dont think its an orphan, but maybe it doesnt quite all hang together? If so, I am not sure what you could do to correct it. I guess you could dismantle it, pierce it then compare before and after pics? But maybe it just needs a swipe with a distress ink over the embossed backgrounds?

CraftyCj said...

Like this card a lot, a softer one and definately not an orphan x
