Winter Trees

Hi guys!  And we have another winner to add to the list from yesterday.  The post of January 2nd had over 100 comments so I randomly picked number 15 which was the comment left by L00py's craft creations!!! Congratulations!  I love giving stuff away, this is fun!  Email me to claim your prize at americansue1@gmail.com
While I am on the subject of prizes, we are halfway along to our next big blog candy drawing too!  In case I haven't said it enough, if you leave a comment after each new post, you will get extra entry chances, thereby increasing your odds of winning!  That's all I'm saying, the rest is up to you!
Now on to the subject of today's post.  I love this card, not sure if it is just the black and white or the simplicity of the trees or the multiple layers, but it sings to me.  One thing that I never ever do is cut something out and leave the edge of the paper showing, but I needed to do it this way for the trees mounted in front or they looked very flat.  The tiny white edge gave them a bit of dimension, especially the one that was partially mounted over the black background.  I have added a close up so you can see what I am talking about.  The close up also shows the detail of the hounds tooth embossing folder on the frame I cut out.  The rest of the card is fairly straightforward.  I stamped the smaller trees on black card using a clear perfect medium and whit embossed them.  I used the white Inksential pen by Ranger to add snow dots and draw in some hills.  I stamped my sentiment in black and clear embossed it and added some of my favourite paper piercing around the edge to finish it off.  I hope it sings to you too!  All for now, Sue x

Such an awesome card again Sue. I too love trees and have a couple of stamps with some simular to these, so better get them out and see if I can´t make something as beautiful as this. You´re always ahead of all of us here, and as I don´t want just to be a copycat, I better put my head in the thinkingbox and make something new and special with them ha ha ha.

Hello Sue,
What a stunning card, love the monochrome, I have the tree stamps but they arrived too late to make 2011 Christmas cards, thanks for the tip to leave a little white around the edges when using on monochrome work. What a treat you have given us in 2012 already and it is only the 4th, thanks for you hard work.
Lots of love, June xxx

This sings to me as well because I love trees (well I love nature in general) Much as I love Spellbinders stamping will always be my first love. I like to have something pictorial on a card as well as interesting shapes. This card also emphasises the paper pricking technique which sometimes gets lost among the more elaborate cards.

Sue I love this card. Classic & elegant. Shame White us so notoriously difficult to photograph or scan. For whiter whites & truer colurs I would recommend using a paint/ photo/ crafting software that enables you to alter the levels of red, green & blue, change the colour tone & alter brightness & contrast, whilst also enabling you to save in a useable format. My Craft Studio Professional is cheap, easy to use & fulfills these needs well. However, there are many on the Market so shop around. Some cameras / scanners even come with software for this so it's worth checking your disks.
Every photographic / scanning device has it's own colour bias ( due to the numerical software) so once you have altered one image ( to what looks good to you) you can apply these corrections to all your other images in the future ( taking a few seconds), only a few occasional tweaks should be necessary.
Having said this I like the cream look = v.vintage. I would never have tried this for a snowy scene but am going to give it a go.
Congratulations to the winner.
Thanks Lindyloo & Sue for the information on glints. It's much appreciated.
With love & light Theresa. H

Love this one Sue. It is charming in its simplicity. My 5 year old g.daughter had to do a magical snow scene for school and came to grandma for help. Companion ,snowman, walking in the air, !! Your inspiration can be used for all sorts of things. Thanks a bundle.

Hi Sue, I'm fascinated with the difference the white edge makes - would never have thought of that - guess it's the exception that proves the rule, as they say. My hounds tooth folder arrived today and I think it will be used a lot, as so suitable for male cards. I haven't bought the tree stamps YET as I have so many tree stamps, but will have to have it eventually as I particularly like the treasured friend sentiment which, I think I am right in saying, is on it. Congratulations to the new winner. Sue x

(Thanks Linda-Lindyloo for supporting The Royal College of Midwives e-petition in recruiting 5000 more NHS Midwives in England and I always look forward to sue’s postings and reading your comments- breath of fresh air!) Hope you don’t mind sue.

Hi Sue,
I am sorry to be so late posting my comment today. I am still a little low and my mojo is still on holiday somewhere else at the moment.
Anyway my dear blog friend, this card today reminded me of a song I used to sing in choir and have loved ever since: 'See Amid the Winter's Snow'..... and the lines: 'As we watched at dead of night, Lo, we saw a wondrous light' especially fit your adorable creation. (The black trees in the foreground give the impression of a bright light around the trees in the background.) Genius.
I see Christine is on C&C around the 17th Jan with a Spellbinders POTD. It will be lovely to see her work, but I will miss seeing you there. I hope you are able to follow behind her very soon, but hope you don't rush yourself.
Regards as always Linda

I bought this stamp set recently but felt silly for spending more money on another tree stamp set as I already have so many. However, after seeing your card I saw the stamps classical simplicity once again. Thank you for inspiring me again.
