Rainbow Card

Hello crafters!  I have a clean and simple card to share today that uses the rainbow die from the You Are My Sunshine die set.  It is very simple to use and you can make a bunch of different rainbows to use for other cards too from the left over pieces!

On another note...
Today would have been my Dad's 98th birthday (sadly he passed away a seven years ago).  Every year I go back and reread the Lessons of Life that he sent me (he didn't write it, but came upon it and sent it to me), but I still think that it is just the most well written bit of advice that I have ever come across.  I am including it again in today's post if anyone would like to read it (the card pics are below it, just scroll down.)

LESSONS OF LIFE .Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of The Plain Dealer, Cleveland , Ohio "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me.
 1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month. 6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. 7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. 8. It's OK to get angry 9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck. 10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. 11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present. 12. It's OK to let your children see you cry. 13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. 14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it. 15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye. But don't worry; God never blinks. 16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind. 17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful. 18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger. 19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else. 20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer. 21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special. 22. Over prepare, then go with the flow. 23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple. 24. The most important sex organ is the brain. 25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. 26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?' 27. Always choose life. 28. Forgive everyone everything. 29. What other people think of you is none of your business. 30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time. 31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. 32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 33. Believe in miracles.3 4. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do. 35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now. 36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young. 37. Your children get only one childhood. 38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. 39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. 40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's,we'd grab ours back. 41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. 42. The best is yet to come.. 43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. 44. Yield. 45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift." Remember that I will always share my spoon with you! Friends are the family that we choose for ourselves I think that we all need to take a few moments every day and be grateful and appreciative of what we have.

I love you Dad!!

The finished dimensions are 7" x  7" in size.  All for now, Sue x

A beautiful card which I hope will help to brighten your day Sue and all others that need their day brightening.
I always read the lessons for life and each time say to myself that they are the way to try to live it. Unfortunately I'm not very good at sticking to them, but I do try.
Take care x

Morning Sue. A very appropriate tribute to your dad, the rainbow has so many different meanings to so many people, but the rainbow is such a beautiful thing to watch develop just like the relationship with our parents. I was so lucky to have the most incredible dad who was my world, like you Sue I didn't have him in my life long enough, and our daughter missed out on the most loving, caring grandad but I make sure his love and memory remains by talking about him, she won't remember the cuddle he gave her but I will and it's the most precious photograph I will ever have, so this sample today is a beautiful tribute and I always read the Lessons of Life, some always make me think, some make me smile, and like Hollyberry above, it's one of those things I'd love to carry through, but like many that read this our intentions are good but life gets in the way and the memory of that wonderful lesson fades, it takes the memory of your late dad to remind us of these lovely, funny lessons.
To all those remembering their wonderful dad I send my hugs to you xx

Hi Sue, I love this card and the rainbow die. I made my version of this for my cousin who is undergoing major surgery next week. I used strong colours and the stitched hills and clouds; she loves it and says she will keep it with her in the hospital. I have also made a couple of baby cards using pastel colours and I am very happy with both versions.

Thank you for reminding us of the 'Lessons in Life', it is always good to re-read them and I am sure newer Wilsonettes will appreciate them also.

The Lessons of Life that your beloved Dad shared with you, and you have shared with us Wilsonettes, are very wise words indeed. After you shared this with us last year, I printed it out and always reread it when I am at my desktop computer. Happy birthday to your Dad. When we remember the loved one we have lost, they are always near to us again. Sweet card today. Great tip about cutting a lower layer of card under the die cut rainbow layer giving a whole piece allowing easier layering of the various colored pieces of the rainbow.
