Christmas Double Day

Hi bloggers!  One really bright and one black and white! LOL  First up is my experiment with some Pixie Powders and the Caught in Crystal technique.  Guess what, it works a treat!  Start with a piece of acetate,  spread some Cosmic Lacquer over the top with your finger, tap pixie powders on to it starting with a base colour.  I used the Teal Wash here and used my finger to spread it and turn the entire base teal.  Next I added Peacock Green and Midnight blue Pixie Powders, covering the area quite intensely.  I covered it with a wrinkled piece of white tissue paper and set it aside to dry overnight.  Once dry, I cut it to the size I wanted, leaving the tissue on the back.  Next I cut the Christmas Cottages in white, using piece s from both dies in the set.  I glued it to the top, leaving a bit of white card o the bottom of them.  I coated the white card with glue and sprinkled a mixture of white micro beads and Iced Snow over it and allowed it to dry.  I die cut the "peace" word from the Ornate Holy Framed Peace die several times, stacking them for dimension.  I glued the word in the upper corner.  The card was completed with a simple white on white mat.  The finished dimensions are 6" x  7" in size.  Scroll down for card number two.

Card number two was from the shows at Ally Pally a few weeks ago.  I started by cutting the snow globe into a piece of coconut white card.  Next I embossed it with the Falling Snow embossing folder.  I cut both of the cottage dies into a piece of black card.  I used the top of the snow globe outline to cut a half circle out of the bottom of the piece and then glued it into place around the snow globe outline .  Next I filled the treat cup with white micro beads and sealed it with a piece of acetate.  I cut the Snow globe Cottage die out of black and glued it to the back of the sealed treat cup.  I dropped it into place through the opening in the background and taped it into place.  Next I cut a snow globe using both die pieces and glued it over the top of the treat cup to fill in the entire shape.  I used the Starry Merry Christmas die in white with a black shadow and glued it in the lower corner of the card.  Opposite it, I added a couple of sparkly poinsettias seated on Black and White Bakers Twine and accented with Pine twigs.  White and black mats were added to finish the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  9" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Gorgeous gorgeous cards today, love them. No 1 colours are fantastic.
Elaine, Andrew has to slow down for his own good, good luck with treatment 2 today.
Tina, hope Peter got his Sky sorted, I changed to Virgin for the faster broadband but miss the Sky channels so much.
France's, glad hubby is home, good news.
Wendy, hopefully Bill will be more settled at home and progress faster.
June, how are you feeling, hope all is well and today will be a better day.
Betty, you too, ops are never nice.
Tracey, woohoo, good news about work, it will do you good to get back to normal but slowly slowly, don't overdo it.
Steph, I was shocked at your doctors surgery treatment yesterday, this caring profession needs to have a read up on their mission statement again, they seem to have missed the point.
Cheryl, hope the craft show went well yesterday.
Hugs to all, big tail wag for Billy, keep warm and well everyone.

Love both these cards. I bought some pixie powders a few weeks ago but haven't had time to experiment yet. I love the results you get. I haven't managed to buy the falling snow embossing folder yet. Each time I've tried my usual suppliers have been out of stock. I'll just have to keep trying.
Happy crafting.

WOW Sue, morning. Pixies plus caught in crystal, think I'll try one technique at a time lol. After my morning rant come moan yesterday my mood had settled so I actually took the plunge and got the 3 powders I'd mentioned - gold silver and red, also the falling snow and Nordic tiles folders with 2 more on order as I only had the lattice snowflake folder and it's too feminine for male cards, the falling snow isn't just for the festive season which is great.
The effect you have given card 2 is absolutely mind blowing, again it's the black and white scheme I'm sure that gives these illusions as it looks like it's standing proud of the background, it looks like it's standing up, what a clever card. I think it has to be the snow globe that catches my eye, it's just so bloomin illusional and brilliant, it's probably a good job that my little shop has sold out of the snow globe die set or I could have been servely tempted lol. I was talking about the background on Wednesdays card with the black gloss card and pixies to my shop owner and showed her Wednesday's entry, ahhh she said " I think that lady that was here when you came in might be trying that background as she's just bought black gloss card and the powders, it's beautiful so I'm going to have to try that myself" see what you've started lol ? The Sue Wilson background techniques have invaded the world lol so on that note I'm going to send you one of two hugs and wish you a lovely day working out other techniques to fuddle out brain's with lol and the 2nd hug goes to June, hope all is well and the nasty pain you can go through after knee surgery is being kept under control for you, stay strong, it will all be worth it no matter how you feel today xxx

Good morning Sue and crafters all,
Two stunning cards this morning but no2 tips it for me, just love black and white. Got most of the dies used so will give it a go.
Dragonsnap2 : The falling snow embossing folder is on Julia Watts website , hope this info helps.
Pam - thanks for the kind words - yes the man from Sky came early at 10:25 said sorry I am early, do you want me to come back. No way was the reply. It was the wiring, over the roof so he moved the dish and put it in the garden where the previous dish had been, rewired it and voila it is now perfect.
In Hull where I live, our local telecoms company only allows their broadband so Sky is our only option and Freeview of course.
So Peter is happy now. I have a funeral today so not really looking forward to it as my old lady friend had no family - spinster to boot.

June Smith hope all went well with your operation and you are up and about!!!!!

To all crafters in need of TLC we send our love.

Good afternoon lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

Ooh, i do love Fridays at the minute, not only two delectable cards but they're also Christmassy themed, what more could i ask for:-)
I remember you demoing the pixie powder technique at Ally Pally and it was just so impressive to watch....i particularly love these colours, they are so striking and look fantastic as a night sky backdrop...i will definitely be attempting this technique myself though i doubt that it will look so expertly done, never mind, im sure i'll have a lot of fun trying...ive been saving the tissue out of my shoe boxes for the occasion:-)
I cant express to you just how much i adore the snow globe cards, im going to attempt all of them because they are so effective, real showstoppers! i am a huge fan of black and white or cream cards, i have to stop myself from using it too often, so card no. 2 is a particular favourite. I love the glittered poinsettia and the Falling Snow EF, they are gorgeous. In saying that, i really cant pick an outright favourite because both are equally stunning in their own right.
Well friends, scootergate continues:-( Just when we thought that it was up and running again we awoke to find the tyre as flat as a pancake. I guess we have to accept that it is beyond James's abilities and possibly a new tyre is required. We called the company that supplied it and does services and repairs to see what they thought. They are coming out on Monday with a new tyre at a cost of 80 pounds which i thought very reasonable but still an unexpected expense....i might have to forget about the ODS on Hochanda with John and Sue's dies though, but we'll wait and see, unfortunately the scooter has to take priority:-( in the meantime, im having to use taxis for embarrassingly short distances which im not entirely happy about....i never necessarily felt disabled or 'special' as Yvonne would say, until now, you take your mobility for granted in your youth and it can be a real wake up call to have it compromised in any way.
Thinking of mobility, i do hope you are well after your operation June, it will be an uphill struggle for you getting back the movement in your knee but worth all the pain and effort.
Betty, glad your operation went without a hitch, it will take a lot of getting used to not having a right hand but im sure you'll find ways of coping.
Elaine, hugs to Andrew as his treatment progresses, hope he feels a little stronger each day.
Frances, men can make infuriating patients, i do hope your hubby doesn't fall into that category. My friends mum has had a few minor strokes and was quickly back to driving again, so i hope he gets back on his feet again soon....if not for his sake, then for yours:-)
Myra, Maureen, im rather disappointed in you girls, i really thought that you would have behaved with much less dignity and decorum....Yvonne and i can't be the only reprobates on the blog now can we? Glad you enjoyed your stay, i guess you were on your best behaviour because you were in the company of two ladies, Norah and Diane:-)
Tracy, i'm so pleased for you, being back at work will make the next year fly by and before you know it you'll be starting the IVF, how exciting:-)
Wheely, hope Billy is recovering well after his op. Hugs
Maria, how are you sweetie, hope you're well, sending hugsxxx
Yvonne, ready for our marathon chat tonight?
Cuddles to P, Pat,Pam, LOrraine,Lynda, Linda, the Tina's, Deb C, Rebecca, theresa and Beth, plus anyone ive forgottenxxx

What beautiful cards today, Sue. I think I have to say that the first one has won my heart and I'm really loving the Pixie Powders and am going to get some as soon as I can decide which colours I want to start my collection with lol.
I hope everyone is doing fine today. I went for my annual blood tests this afternoon and was pleased to see that my blood pressure is good. I've always had a low/normal pressure but one of my meds has a side-effect of raising the bo, so now I have to take a pill to try to regulate it, so the reading today was good. Taking my blood, however, was a bit of a drama. The nurse went for a vein in the hand as the ones in my arm are very good at hiding lol. It was coming out so slowly that at one point she said if it didn't speed up it would start clotting lol. I now have a nice bruise on my knuckle about the same size as the one was on my forehead after the collision with the dog lol.
I did have a nice surprise when I got home, my order from Hobbycraft had been delivered and inside was a brilliant wooden Advent calendar which I'm going to have fun decorating...I wonder what Creative Expressions stash I can use to decorate it with :).
Have a brilliant weekend, everyone and hugs to all who are in need of one.
Happy Crafting.

Two very different cards to admire today

Hello Sue,
Two beautiful cards today.
I have been playing with my Pixie powders trying to create a similar background, it's great fun and you never get the same results even when you use the same colours.
Hope you have had a good day.
Love and hugs, Brenda xxx

beautiful cards today.
I love them both and can't possible choose a favourite.
I love the bold bright colour of the background in the first one and love
the black on the second one.

Hi Sue. WOW !!! Two such gorgeous Christmas cards today !!! If I had to choose a favourite, it would be the second card as I really love your show-stopping snow globes !!! Also you have used the Falling Snow EF and I bought this folder and the Nordic Tiles folder especially to make my Christmas cards with this year as I really LOVE them both. I have to admit I am not really much of a fan of the Pixie Powders as I think they are just a bit to bright for my taste. I much prefer something a bit more subtle. I know there will be a lot of people who disagree with me on this one but I suppose life would be boring if we were all the same !!! I love your cottage scene dies on the first card and also I really love the effect that the white micro beads and ice snow glitter creates mixed together. I think this is a gorgeous effect. As for your second card, for me i just love your gorgeous Poinsettia's !!! Thank you for sharing your two gorgeous cards today. Sending lots of love to you Sue from Tres x x x

Hello Sue,
I do love Fridays ! Two cards for the price of one! Lol. Especially just now as its all about Christmas! I love both cards and will try to emulate bits of both of them. The Pixie Powders are gorgeous!
June - I do hope you are making good progress! Thinking of you!
Frances - (Fluffycat) - so pleased you have your husband home again! That's such good news.
Pat L - Maureen and Diane are both naughty - telling tales! I'm not the slightest bit of bother to anyone - never mind trouble or double trouble! The Hotel Staff are willing to have us back again! Amazing! I think they think we are slightly mad but nice with it!!!
It's official - I'm tired! Between driving , getting up early and chatting until very late it's no wonder! Diane is our baby as she is the youngest but she was very little trouble really!!
I'm sorry I haven't had time to read everything as I've had a busy day today, once again! You know the old saying - " a woman's work is never done! " lol!
Laine - so sorry about your chariot! That's so annoying! Sometimes I know I can be guilty of taking my health and fitness for granted.
Tracy - great news! Don't go mad though! I'm thrilled for you! You have been such a star!
Love to all, Myra xxx

Hi Sue

Both cards are stunning but the card with the Pixie in Crystal background scores ever so slightly higher for me, big hugs xxx

June Smith, thinking of you and hope you're comfortable, big hugs x

I know there's so many of you going through your own difficulties at present, sending an extra specific to you all xxx

The last three days have caught up with both Billy and I, he's a little less sore so he's sleeping more, think having cracked the getting meds in him has helped along with me giving him my fleece blanket to put on his bed as he can't get on the sofa and now he's less drowsy he won't be lifted by Mr. Hoping I can follow his lead and sleep. So sore I feel a bit sick to be honest and I know it's not helped by hardly any sleep the past two days and nights, Mr will have to be number 1 over the weekend with Billy as I am in desperate need of a rest physically too.! But Billy is doing well and that's the main thing at the moment.

Sorry it's not longer, would prefer to say a personal thank you to all the kind and thoughtful people who have left messages and thought of Billy the last couple of days thank you all so much for caring xxx

Must sign off, shattered! Biggest of hugs to you all, have a wonderful weekend everyone, T x
