A Friend Is Like A Rainbow

Morning all!  I haven't done the Faux Cloisonne technique in ages so I thought I would have a go with this stamped image.  On black card, I stamped the Zentangled Flower Square using a clear Perfect Medium pad and heat embossed it in gold.  Next I painted the images with mica powders to give it the cloisonne look.  Usually I would cover it in glossy accents, but I decide to leave it as is this time.  I cut it out with the square from the Herald Square die set.  I used the same die and cut an aperture in a piece of vintage gold card.  I used the Art Deco Rose Swirl embossing folder to give the entire background some texture.  I added mounting foam to the back of it to raise it for dimension.  I recessed the painted square down into the centre of it.  I stamped my sentiment and cut a frame from the smaller die in the Madison Square die set to go over it.  I mounted it in a diamond orientation in the centre of my card.  I added a small floral element using the Camellia complete petal die set.  I sugared it with Ebony Ice for a bit of bling and seated it on some thin satin ribbon and black tulle.  Finally. I finished the card with a white pierced mat, then a thin lavender and black mat and a final white mat.  The finished dimensions are 8" x  8" in size.

The winner of this week's Wednesday Card giveaway is:

Rosalind McLellan!!!

Congratulations!  Please email me at to confirm your address and claim your card.  All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue,

What a gorgeous card! that embossing folder, at first glance it looks like some kind of woodgrain effect...and the Zentangle stamp is beautiful given the Cloisonne treatment..I must get my mica powders out again, I had a lot of fun playing with them when I first bought them - time to re-visit that technique.

Lynn. So lovely to see you regularly posting again. As far as your little pooches and eating your flower's (how rude) lol but - and this goes out to ALL dog owners SWEET PEA plants are lethal if your dog is 'curious' enough to go take a taste test ! A dog owner had put a 'Beware' notice in a pet store saying they had lost their dog recently and toxicology results had shown some toxic poison that sweetpea plants have had been the cause of their dog 'getting it's wings'. So as beautiful and as lovely as their perfume is keep your little friends away from them !!
Sorry Sue. As a dog lover yourself Im thinking you wont mind me mentioning this here.

Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes. Wowzer. Never heard of it let alone have a bash at it lol. Just got Mr. L to look it up for me lol. I dont think Im confident enough to try this though, im not very artistic, whenever I try something that should turn out pretty it looks more like a hurricane in a mica factory !!! I can see me in such a mess with mica powder everywhere, and Ebony Ice reminding me I let it loose from its pot for months to come lol but you Sue, are just brilliant, fairycraft mother, you can make anything happen and its always ends up happily ever after lol. Im a disaster site !! Lol.
Looking forward to my metal easter egg tomorrow (bless my man he know's how much I love the taste of metal virsus chocolate lol) metal wins everytime : )

Hi Sue

I've not seen the cloisonné technique in card making before but as I make my own jewellery I am aware of the look. I think this is really pretty, I for one will be digging out the glossy accents to see how that looks as I think it'll look amazing on the mica. Will have to find a suitable stamp as I dont have this one and just give it a go.

Rosalind, congratulations on winning the Wednesday giveaway. I'm glad it has meant so much to you xxx

Late today as I'm still pushing against more pain and tiredness than usual. Have 3 cards to make before Saturdays family party, will be looking through Sues archive for help!

Wishing you all a lovely Easter weekend, a big happy hug to each of you, I have extra for those that need them

Hi, Sue, have yet to try this technique. Quite a vibrant card, but this stamp isn't one of my favourites, sorry :-(

Hope you're feeling better soon Tres x

Happy Easter everyone and hugs to all in need Xx

Love the design of the card but not so keen on the black flower.
Congratulations on your timely win Rosalind. Sorry to hear about your husband's illness and that you've had to give up your job.
Take care everyone.

Rosalind - so sorry you have had to make the decision to give up your job (and who wouldn't like to work at Colemans?!) Hope that the road ahead isn't too difficult and you get lots of support. Must try to make time for yourself. Keep posting.
