Aged To Perfection

Good Sunday morning all!  Here's a rather distressed card that is great for both the males in our lives or any wine lover!  I started with the faux leather technique for the background.  There is a step by step tutorial at the top of the blog if you want a more in depth look at it, but basically it torn pieces of masking tape over a piece of card (I used black for a darker look), then went over the tape with Black Soot Distress Oxide ink to get a dark edge to all the torn tape pieces.  Next I cut the Vineyard Frame in milk card.  I used Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink (D.O for short) on the wine barrel and vines, Seedless Preserves and Wilted Violet D.O. for the grapes and wine bottles and glasses and Peeled Paint and Forest Moss D.O. for the leaves.  I applied the inks with the pointy tip of the small smoothies.  Next I cut a backing piece out of milk card and used Antique Linen D.O. on the edges.  I glued the frame to it, then cut the centre out with scissors.  I added mounting foam to the back and attached it to the background.  I cut the sentiment and inked it with Wilted Violet and glued it to the centre of  the frame.  I used a white pencil to add some highlights to the frame.   I completed the card with milk mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are
 6 1/4" x  7 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

The jollyness of this card seems a little darkened by the faux leather. I wonder if faux white leather would cheer things up a little.

Here's my confession/brag. Instead of going broke buying all the forms of distress oxides, I just bought the reinkers. I can drip out a few drops and smear them around on my work surface or gel plate. I have some art sponges I can use to apply the barest amounts of color. To color with them precisely, I bought the largest pair of flip-flops, men's size 10, that I could find. I got a white pair. Cost a whole dollar. They are smooth foam between a textured foam top and bottom. I cut strips with a strong pair of scissors, so they were as long as the width of the flip-flop. By cutting the strips about as wide as the foam was deep, I made essentially short pencils that were square instead of round in cross-section. Then I just cut one end into a point. A drop of color on the mat, picked up by the point of the flip-flop pencil, delivered the color precisely. The smoothies seem prohibitively expensive. I need all my allowance for Sue Wilson dies!

Best,

Donita

Hi Sue,

Love your colouring of the Vineyard Frame, really brings out all the little details and it's been ages since I did the faux leather background, must find that roll of masking tape again...

Donita - thanks for the flip-flop recycling tips, very thrifty and leaves more pennies to be spent on Sue's dies...

Hi Sue, love this card especially the sentiment as we bought t-shirts in South Africa with this sentiment emblazoned on the front, in fact we go to the particular vineyard every time we go as they do them in a different colour every year........ a bit like your special edition Angel. I have this frame but have never attempted the faux leather background, YET.
Great male card. Hugs xx Pauline

Hi Sue, I have to confess that this is not my favourite frame but I do like the card you have made with it. As you say it would be suitable for those pesky men or any wine buff but for me it would have to be white wine and I don't think that would work so well on the colour front.

Donita - love your ingenuity.
