Thanks For Everything

Hello there my crafty friends!  It's a long post today as I have included a bunch of pictures from my recent holiday in Norway.  I will give the card details first though.  I just love cutting into this background!  There are just so many ways to change it and they look really good.  I started with the bottom of the card by cutting the Ursa Gemini die twice in milk card.  Once with the bottom cutting edge, then I flipped it around so it was a mirror image but cut it without any of the cutting edges.  It creates a really pretty bottom border for the card.  I added a few pearls as embellishments.  I added a backing of periwinkle card so it showed through the die cut outs.  Next I cut the New York Background out of milk card.  I cut it in half (can you find the join?) and removed a bit of it then taped it back together so it formed a square shape. Flatback pearls hide the join areas nicely.  I backed it with Periwinkle card as well.  I added mounting foam to the back to raise it for dimension.  I stamped my sentiment and covered it with a sticky sheet then coated it with Diamond Sprinkles. I cut it out with the New York tag and added it to the centre of the background with foam.  I tied a double bow out of the Antique white (cream coloured) satin ribbon and topped it with a satin ribbon flower and some dried baby's breath (from my stash).  I paper pierced the edge of a piece of milk card, then added a thin periwinkle card and a final milk card mat layer.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/2" x  8 3/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

I thought you might enjoy seeing a few pictures from my trip to Norway.  This was taken on the day excursion from Stavenger.  We took a boat through the Lysefjord.  We wanted to see Pulpit Rock, but it was too foggy to see it clearly, but we did see some gorgeous waterfalls along the way.
The view from the cabin as we entered the harbour at Stavenger.  My other half had these flowers delivered to our room prior to sailing, they were beautiful!
We took a cable car to the top of the mountain in Tromso.  This was part of the view, it was spectacular!
I managed to catch the other cable car as we were passing on the mountain on the way back down.  They only held about 27 people.
Probably my most favourite day of the trip was in Alta.  We had a day excursion going snowmobiling inside the Arctic Circle.  What a blast!  They put you in a thermal suit and helmet so it was quite warm (yes that is me under all that gear!)  and the day was absolutely beautiful too (just look at that sky!)  We couldn't have asked for better weather.  It was a two hour trip up the mountain, where we were able stop a few times for photos.

After the ride, we were treated to a tour of the Ice Hotel.  It just looks like a large igloo from the outside, but inside is magnificent!  The theme was Norwegian culture and there were so many detailed ice sculptures and carvings.
This is actually one of the beds in a "suite" in the hotel. It was round and you had to walk up the path on the left to get into the bed which was covered with reindeer hides for warmth.  You still have to sleep in all your gear inside a sleeping bag on top of the bed though.  We didn't stay the night, but I was surprised that it didn't feel colder than it did.  They keep it at -4C constantly we were told.
This was carved into the side of one of the walls.  I thought it was a Yak, but was told it was not.  I cannot recall exactly what she said it was but it was the equivalent to a Norwegian buffalo.

It was hard to get this entire sculpture in the picture (it was about 10 feet long) of huskies pulling a dog sled.
 Check out the ice furniture!
There were etched ice arched panels going into the different areas of the hotel.
On our second day in Alta, we took a tour of the city by coach.  This is the modern Northern Lights Cathedral.  Again, look at that gorgeous sky behind me.
This church was the only remaining building in Alta at the end of the second world war.  It was a beautiful wood church building.

We went out to see the Northern Lights the last night in Alta.  A coach took us up in the mountains to a remote location so that the light from the city did not wash them out.  This photo was actually taken by the ships photographer with a proper camera, using an open exposure setting to really get the colour to come through.  It was taken from the same spot we were at when we saw the lights (my personal pictures did not come out very well without the open exposure setting).  We watched them dance in the sky for a couple of hours though, it was really amazing to see!

Our last post was Bergen and this pic was taken from the top of the mountain.  We took the funicular train up to the top and wandered around. There was no snow at all any where in Bergen, even the top of the mountain was sunny and warm!  You can see our cruise ship in the port below.

We had a really lovely time and I thoroughly enjoyed the whole trip.  I have an extra eight pounds on me to prove it too! LOL  I hope you have enjoyed the pics.  All for now, Sue x

Hi Sue. Such a pretty card, periwinkle blue is a favourite colour and I love how you've flipped the Gemini die at the bottom.
Your photos are wonderful and bring back some lovely memories of my family's visit to Norway - did you stop to feed the goats on your way to Pulpit Rock? And don't worry about the pounds, they'll soon drop off when you're back in your routine. Sue xxx

Good morning Sue
Today's card is so pretty and 'girly' right up my street. Once again I never thought of flipping my Gemini dies so must try that thanks for the idea.
What amazing photos I'm so glad you got to see the Northern lights (we had them here in Wales day before yesterday) unfortunately I never got to see them. I see some future dies from the some of the sculptures lol. So glad you got some 'YOU' time, the flowers were gorgeous such a lovely gesture from your other half. As for the weight it will soon come off.

Lovely card with yet more ideas for different ways of using the dies. I have been trying out your idea from the other day of resticking the cut away pieces back using black, red and cream card and the New York background die. All three are very effective and look so different. It's a painstaking task but well worth the effort.
Norway looks wonderful - thank you for letting us see some of your photos.

Morning Sue and all that visit today. Hey Sue, hot sexy lady lol, you looked beautiful all padded out at the ice hotel, what - NO gloves? Can you hear me screaming in pain just at the thought lol. What a beautiful thought to have flower's sent to your cabin, that says it all huh ? Im thinking on the same lines as our Kitty - the next set of dies will be designed around shapes and memories of Norway perhaps ? I just want to say thank you for sharing your personal life and memories with us all, its so lovely to see you happy and relaxed (and not from behind your work table) lol hope your withdraw symptoms are starting to feel better now and that you have been reunited with your note book and pencil lol.
I remember dashing to my 'den' when you show cased this card checking I had this die to do the mirror image, and how disapointed I was only to find it wasn't in my small collection : ( like Sandra has said, I too LOVE this colour combo, they work so beautiful together.
If any of our Wilsonettes are going out to watch the partial eclypse today, dont damage those crafting eyes !! Enjoy.
Thinking of our friends that are unwell or sad today, if only 'blog hugs' could make you feel better how wonderful it would be.
Almost completed my order that was waiting for me ! Allowing no time at all to get as many 'stock up' cards done before market Sunday !!!
Well Sue, thanks again for sharing your memories and beautiful card, and I send love to you and all that visit this amazing place today.

Hi Sue. Well, what a lovely way to start a dreary Friday. A gorgeous card and then the wonderful photos : )
I love the card, the way you have flip cut the Ursa die is one I haven't thought to do before so another "must try" to add to the list, it does make a beautiful border doesn't it. I do have the New York background die at the top of my "must have dies list now, I can't wait until Ally Pally when I hope to get it. Thanks for sharing this lovely card : )
It is wonderful to see photos of you "off duty". You look like you had a great time in Norway, starting with the beautiful flowers that your other half had organised for you. You had some great weather it seems, shame about the fog at Pulpit Rock though. So many fantastic views, you wouldn't get me in a cable car for anything though! And to get to see the Northern Lights- how lucky was that? I am delighted that you have managed to see them as they don't appear every night do they. The Ice Hotel is incredible, not sure I would want to sleep there either : ) It seems like you have the proof that you had a good cruise, that extra weight will soon melt away as you get back onto the daily tread mill called life : )
I am so glad that you have had a "proper" holiday and thank you so much for sharing this with us Sue. It is always good to hear about you and yours as well as your wonderful cards.
Sending my daily hugs to everyone. Take care xx

Morning Sue
I could not ask for a better way to finish the working week than today's gift along with photos of your well deserved holiday.
Your colour palette fits extremely well with the beautiful blue skies in your pics. It's the first time I've seen one of your Gemini dies cut back to back and doesn't it look fantastic. Today's gift has just jumped into my 'must do' file and I shall definitely be trying it out.
You have one or two photos showing a couple of my 'bucket' list wishes being The Northern Lights and the Ice Hotel. I have seen a documentary on how the hotel is created every year and it looks amazing.

Steph - pleased to hear you're nearing the end of your current order. Don't do anything silly by trying to build stocks for Sunday. Looking forward to seeing you on Monday.
Sheila - hope things went as well as they could yesterday. You and Nikki are in my prayers.
Norah - hope you're building your strength and energy. Sending hugs

I cannot believe it's Friday again and so housework doth call.
To all in pain or suffering in any way I hope your day gets better. To every one please take care and stay safe. See you tomorrow.

Gorgeous card Sue and I think it captures some of the feeling of your trip in many ways, blee, white, icy shapes.

The pictures of your holiday are fantastic, you must have had a wonderful time, now you'll have to jog everywhere while you take off the extra pounds, but the memories will remind you of the wonderful time you had while you're jogging!

Craftihappiness to all and lots of love from Macky.

Hello Sue,
great what you made out of the New York background!!! And the New York tag on top... a really good idea.
Your photos are fantastic. They remember me when I stayed one night in an igloo some years ago. It was a new experience but one night was enough I must say. But you are absolutely right it´s not as cold as I thought before. But we had a snowstorm and it was a bit scary in the night because we heard the dynamite exploding to trigger snowslides.

Hi Sue,
Pretty card, I love the bottom edging.
Your photos are brilliant, my son saw the northern lights when he went to Iceland and sent me an email saying he was outside his hotel in the hot tub at 2am watching them.

Saw the first part of the eclipse and got a few photos then the cloud came over and I missed the second part. We were in Cornwall for the total solar eclipse and that was the most brilliant experience ever.

Love and hugs to everyone.

Hi Sue

Welcome back! A lovely card, gokd old stick on pearls eh?! I do love chopping up dies to see what I can find. The symmetry and the intricate details of your dies mean it's fun and easy(ish) to do. I must try to mirror my border too. It's my PA's birthday next week and although the main topper will be of a german shepherd dog I'm going to make the rest from your dies.

Thank you so much for sharing your holiday snaps, I too have seen the Ice hotel on TV, I am over the moon for you that you got to see the northern lights, some people in the north of the UK got to see them this past week, there were some lovely pictures on the news. Don't worry about the extra weight, you'll soon lose that with your busy schedule!

I don't remember commenting yesterday, was asleep as I'd taken a lot of meds. Sheila, I hope things weren't too hard on you and Nikki xxx

It was so cloudy here this afternoon I didn't even notice the eclipse but it's now blue and clear outside. Billy is looking out the window longingly so I'd best not be too long. We will go and sit out in the garden for a while before I doze off again!

Hugs to Wilsonettes everywhere, extra hugs if you need them xxx

Wishing you all a happy Friday and a lovely weekend,

T x

Wonderful card, Sue - no, can't see the join, does it exist?! Love the doubling of the Ursa die for the border. So pretty.
Wow, what a holiday - thanks so much for the pics. As I never go anywhere, always get a vicarious thrill from seeing other people's photos. All looked fabulous, even the ice carved arches looked like your twiggy bits dies, plus an owl! Hope you feel really recharged after this great adventure - even if there's a few pounds to shift!!
In the UK Tues/Wed night the aurora borealis was visible as far south as the Brecon Beacons but regret couldn't see them here.
