What You Do

Morning all!  I can barely look at this card without remembering the hours and hours I spent looking for my Venetian Motif die that went missing after the first use!  You see, I had wanted to use it twice on this card, but it decided to play hide and seek with me so I ended up changing the game plan and actually really liking how it came out.  It turns out the die, which still had a bit of sticky tape on it (I get them sent to me attached to a piece of copy paper with the stickiest tape ever!) was stuck between two rolls of seam binding that were on my desk at the time!  It only took me three times sorting through my waste bin because I was certain I had thrown it away by accident.  So this card was a sort of happy accident as it turned out.  I started with a piece of background paper I had (I'd cut it for something else then changed my mind).  I cut two of the Asian borders and glued them facing each other on the side of my card.  I ran a piece of sky blue seam binding down the centre and added a messy bow to the bottom.  I decided to cut one of the smaller dies from the Venetian Motifs for the centre of my bow, kinda cute isn't it!  I added a flatback pearl to the centre and two stick pins.  Now for the focal element.  I started with a large labels 28 in pale blue and a Venetian Motif in milk.  I cut the motif in half and glued it to the top and bottom of the labels 28, clipping the curly edges over.  next I cut an Asian Motif in milk card.  It was far too big so I performed a bit of surgery on it and brought the size down.  I nipped each one of the corners off at the second scallop.  Next I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with Labels 27 turned to an "X" shape.  I then glued my Asian bits to each of the corners so they were peeking out from behind my sentiment.  I added a flatback pearl to the centres of each of the pieces.  I also inked my sentiment with weathered wood distress ink while it was in the die and used a bit of mounting foam to raise it up.  I finished the card with a few pearls in the two right hand corners and pierced the edges.  I was really pleased with it when it was all said and done although I didn't end up finding that die until late the next day!  All for now, Sue x

Good Morning Sue,
Yet another stunning card, love everything about it, colour is so gentle. The combination of dies is fantastic.
Know what you mean about the sticky on the dies. They use that tape to attach them to the packaging when we get the dies. What a job trying to get them off.
Have a Great Day

Good morning.
This is a beautiful, harmonious card. Love the baby blue color. And these dies go perfectly together.
I also have trouble getting the dies off the card board, they come in. They are glued so firmly on the card board, that I'm afraid, I'll brake them..

Hi Sue,
really fabulous card. Love the colour and everything about it. Don't you just hate it when something goes missing. I remember cutting out quite a few of one die pieces for a design on a card. When I came to put them together I was one missing. I hunted high and low to no avail. I found it the next day stuck to the bottom of my slipper. Have a great crafty day everyone.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.

Hi Sue, what a happy accident, turning out a wonderful card. I know the feeling of loosing a die, with me it was one of the teeny ones, it was stuck to a stamp I had used, but I had an age trying to track it down. Love the blue theme and the bow is a beaut.

GM Sue - lovely card - very wedgewoodesque. Focal element is fantastic.

I have a tip to share for those ladies strugling with removing the dies from their packaging. Dont remove the die from the cardboard, remove the cardboard from the die! I do this by placing the dies face down - BUT PROTECT YOUR TABLE WITH A MAT OR SUCKLIKE OR YOU COULD MARK IT! gently peel back the cardboard from the dies with one hand, whilst with your other hand, ensuring the dies keep flat and in contact with the table so they dont warp as you peel the cardboard away from them. Hope this helps someone.

What a beautiful 'happy accident' I wish mine would turn out like yours. I lost a very small die yesterday and spent hours looking for it but couldn't find it anywhere. When I got up this morning I went to put the cleaner over and I thought 'I wonder' and looked in the cleaner bag and there it was. It was as if I had won the lottery lol. I successfully made a rose yesterday and can't stop making them thanks for the inspiration.

Hi Sue, watched you make this on the show, I love that you spent ages looking for a die that was sat there all along, I do that all the time even though all of my dies are on magnetic, can you have a word with Spellbinders about that hideous tape they use, surely there must be a better option like those silicon blobs that magazine publishers use.

I love this card, I have all the dies so can replicate this one easily, without having to substitute anything, oh what joy!

I have a task for you, can you get Spellbinders to do a 'houndstooth' set of dies and particularly a full die like the lattice one you showcased so well last week. That would fly out the warehouse quicker than you could say "Spellbound"!

Hi Sue,
Great card but what I liked seeing is that you are nearly on your 1195000 count which is astoundingly impressive. Keep it up Sue and I'll see what you do tomorrow.

I bet half of us wish that! Another card with the "Wow!" & "let's do a dance" factor! xx Love Karen xx

Wow it is stunning, love the colours too. My mum lost one of her dies a while ago, it turned up in a bag of cut off and waste paper she had donated to a local nursery school! Fortunately the lady who takes the cut offs to the school had checked the bag out first of all and found the missing die! Debra

Jean Johnston said...

I sympathise with you about the dies that go missing Sue! They seem to have wanderlust. I have mislaid a die on different occasions - one turned up weeks later stuck to back of another packet and the other one had accidentally fallen into the drawer next to the one it should have been in. Great feeling to find them again. Oh - mustn't forget to say what another great card you have made for us. Well done.
