Hello Friend

Hello friends!  I truly wish that I was able to capture the colours of this card, but take my word for it, it is very striking!  You have to start with a much larger piece of card that your final finished piece to do this one.  The reason being is that as you cut into it, if it is smaller, the branches of the tree will fall away and you won't be left with anything you can work with.  If however, you start with a larger piece, you can cut the Family Tree four times in to the background (just the head of the tree inward, not the trunk) and your card will stay together except for the pieces of the tree you remove.  Next create a Pixie Powder background by tapping various colours on to a piece of coconut white card.  I used Aubergine Dream, Emerald Green, Burnt Orange and Straw Yellow for this.  Spritz with water and dry well.  Attach your black background with the tree heads cut from it over the top of the pixied background (I used spray glue for this) and now you can trim it to any desired size in your paper cutter.  The backing from the pixie powders will hold any of the sections of the tree background in place, nothing will fall off this way (I do hope that all makes sense!)  Next I cut the Bora Bora die out of white and backed it with black and cut the centre out.  I used a bit of leftover Pixie Powder background to use on the inside of the frame as the floor and I used the Tahiti and Bora Bora dies to cut a thin frame out of it as well and added it to the Bora Bora around the inside edge.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with one of the smaller hexagons and added a slightly larger black mat hexagon to it before seating it in the centre of the frame.  I completed the card with white and black mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 6 1/4" x  7 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

Good morning Sue. Sorry today's card is not for me, a bit dark and dull. Not everyone will feel that, then again it would be a terrible world if we were all alike and liked the exact same things. The design with brighter colours would maybe bring my thinking round.

Dear Sue and Avid Fans,

Not only do you give us this wonderful card, but you also give us the tip about starting with a larger paper to hold the trees together. This might work with a piece of scrapbook paper if we don't have pixie powders yet. I wonder if a spring green instead of black would work for an early summer look.
You're making it increasingly difficult to resist the Bora Bora die.
We had a beautiful warm day for a walk in an oceanside park in Connecticut. Everybody was out with their dogs, including a pug in a stroller with a matching pug running circles around it. Their owner was not having a good time but the hyperactive pug more than made up for it. We saw a few dogs that were so small, there was more happy than dog.
Thank you for such an interesting card.
May everyone's week be off to a good start.

Love,
Donita

Such a beautiful card and I don' t have the tree die or pixie powders but I could try doing something similar using my collection of your leaf dies and gilding flakes perhaps when I get back home. Or I could put them on my "want" list. Great idea Sue and thank you for your helpful tips. Hugs xx P Austen

Hello Sue, I am starting to realise I need the family tree, your cards of late have shown just how versatile this die is. It looks amazing used as a background with the pixie powders. Gorgeous card. Hope you are managing to get some rest after your busy craft fair.

Gloria congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter, enjoy all the cuddles.
Tracy and Pat I hope you manage to get together, how exciting.
Pam glad you are back on top! We need you there.
It was a train trip to a science museum for me and my grandson today, brilliant day but I'm shattered, so much to see, so many six year old questions!
Love and hugs for all

Evening Sue
Ooooooooo gorgeous. I'll bet this is soooo sparkly and beautiful in the flesh. It is stunning on the blog but I know when I have seen your cards at Ally Pally they are even more magnificent - if that is possible!
Don't know if I have mentioned this before but I quite like pixie powders so any card featuring these little bottles of magical glitz is a winner x
I hope your time at the trade show has been exciting and you are not completely worn out. Want you fresh faced for your performance on Saturday - I am counting down the sleeps x
Today was a blue sky not much cloud sunny kind of day so I was delighted to be able to get my washing out on the line. I do get a bit of a thrill seeing a line full of white washing. Small pleasures x
Pam - lovely to see you back where you belong. Which new dies did you get?
Donita - your pug story is hilarious. The sun puts everyone in a good mood - pugs included x
Gloria - congratulations on your new bundle of joy. Hope the cuddles were long x
Tracy and Pat - I really hope you manage to coordinate a meet up. So lovely to be able to put faces to names - keep us posted x
Laine - how's the hair hun? Look forward to catching up with you on Wednesday x
OK people. Sending lots of love and happy thoughts to everyone especially my lovely blog besties - you know who you are x
Take care

Hi Sue,
Wonderful background on this card. I like the colors. I haven't tried pixie powders and it is not going to happen too soon. Too many techniques for a newbie like me. Not today, but one day ...

Love the Family Tree die and the colours.
Made my first card this year, using the Candy Machine. It took me rather longer than Sue's U-tube video but I enjoyed doing it and I'm pleased with the result.
Take care everyone.
