Chocolate Tree

Hi there crafty friends!  Remember the all white micro beaded Christmas tree card last week?  Well this was how it started.  When I first received the new Christmas dies, I cut the holiday tree out of white card first thing.  I just wanted to see what it looked like straight away.  I fell in love with the negative piece right away and made this card with it.  The white card from last week was where the actual tree diecut ended up!  I didn't have any Christmas papers at that point so I decided to do the next best thing and that was to make a chocolate tree (well chocolate is Christmassy, right?)  I found this yummy brown paper in my stash that has a tiny pattern on it.  It was just what I wanted (sorry, I haven't a clue where the paper is from, though).  I mounted my negative piece with foam pieces on the back for dimension.  I used some swirlie pearls that started on the upper corner, went down on to the brown background paper and finished in the lower corner.  I matted the piece with brown card and placed it on a larger piece of the same decorative paper with another brown mat.  I finished it off with a pierced edge and a double bow tied from the brown silky crush ribbon and a Dazzler centre.  I couldn't even put a sentiment on it as I loved the simplicity of it.  If you can't bare the thought of it not being a "Christmas" card in the traditional sense, find yourself some tartan paper and you are all set!  All for now, Sue x

Morning Sue,
Gorgeous and really clever.
I've said it before but I'll say it again, I love playing with negative spaces. I love the chocolate colour as well.
It is often harder to make a relatively simple card and make it look really artistic than a busy one I think.
2 thumbs up from me Sue.

Morning Sue,

I love your chocolate tree. It may not be in traditional Christmas colours but think it's the difference which helps it stand out from the crowd. As you say, Christmas is the time for chocolate and no calories either!

Like this one! I frequently use the negative space from die cutting. As an almost CAS card this is great! It's harder to do CAS than anything else...nowhere to hide anything! Also like the non-traditional color.

Good morning Sue
Gorgeous, yummy indeed!
Loving the colour and the paper, swirls etc!
I received my GC & dies on Monday, have cut a few trees (not all to a satisfactory degree, have had to run them through a number of times)
Haven't yet cut them out as a main feature...roll on 2pm (finish work at this time)
Thanks for sharing the lovely card with us!
Have a great day!

Hi Sue - simple and elegant. And such a great use of the negative piece. Have started thinking much more about how I place my dies on card when I'm cutting them out. Used to cram as many on as possible but not anymore - I'm trying to look at things 'the Sue way'! TY. Kathy x

GM Sue, I think I prefer the positive image to the negative - but the negative is still good! I tried using the negative part a couple of weeks ago but I didn't like the result of my efforts - think it was cos I only used 1 mat and layer - it just didn't look right, wasn't balanced I think - but yours does look balanced to my eye anyway! Will have another go at it the Sue Wilson way.

I'm struggling with this die at the moment, haven't managed to get a complete tree or negative yet! I obviously need some baking parchment.
Think the swirly pearls 'make' the card, but they do add two pounds to the cost, quite a bit, so probably wouldn't be profitable to sell, but lovely for personal, special, use.
Thank you, Sue
