Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Too formal? I'm looking for a new greeting or two as it keeps it a bit more interesting long term. What do you think? I have gone back to the decorative background paper that I fell in love with from Hobby Lobby in the States. If your colour isn't great on your monitor, this set of papers is all in black and gold, mostly non metallic, but there are a few of them that have some metallic gold in them too. I love the fact that the pattern is small, perfect for card making. I see many papers that I like but the pattern is always so large that it becomes difficult to use on a card. I would love these paper manufacturers to start doing smaller patterns, maybe it's just me though.
I split the background in to three panels with two small side panels and one large panel in the centre. I cut two different dies of the ribbon buckle set, one marge and one smaller. I fed the ribbon through one side of the larger one first, then through the entire smaller buckle, then through the other side of the larger buckle. The ribbon ends were secured around the back of the centre panel only. I cut two damask borders to go along the sides of the two smaller side panels. I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the large Splendid circle die. I inked it slightly with antique linen, which is actually lighter than the colour of card that I used, but it becomes a shadow on it more than a distinct colour which I like. I cut a slightly larger circle in black as a mat (you could use the splendid circle to make a faux mat if you don't have the right size of circle to use). I mounted them both on 3D foam above my ribbon and buckles. No paper piercing today, but rather decided to use the new gold Cosmic Shimmer PVA glue to make dots around the edge to complete my card. Hope you like it, it's an easy one, but a useful general layout for any occasion. All for now, Sue x

Good Morning Sue,
Yet again another stunning card Oh! My! Word! how do you do it???
Maybe you should be whispering the ears of some of these Paper Manufacturers!!!!!
This ia a card I shall be taking inspiration from, thank you.
Have a great day,

HI Sue

Love the black/gold combo. it really works, Wonder if I could get a trip to America out of my husband to have a look at the background papers you use ( LOL). Lol Lynne M
Raspberry plate saga continues
Sarah, Patricia, Karen, Anne RD, Zerena, Christine, Sheila, - thanks for your comments( if I've missed anyone I apologise)
I visited Spellbinder website and found out how to remove the white tray HOWEVER I tried sweet talk, swearing ( I know wrong but it did make me feel better), physical harm but the tray refused to budge. I will have hunt through the internet to find the raspberry plate to fit my machine. For Zerena I've been informed by a retailer that there are 3 sizes of raspberry plate 8 1/2 inch x 6 inch (small size ) 8 1/4 inch x 11 3/4 inch for GC before January 2012 and the larger one 8 1/2 inch x 12 inch for the newer models of GC. The difference I've been told is that on the newer models of GC the white tray is only across the bottom of the machine. Thanks again for all the advice. Lol Lynne M
Good morning Sue!
A fabulous and beautiful card!
Morning Sue
I love this card and as you say its so versatile too. that background paper is beautiful
I dont have those buckle dies but do have an old set of buckle dies from Spellbinders that are nice, not as nice as the new ones though
Sue Yorkshire
Like you Sue, I too wish that when I give you my comment it would be exciting and different each time!! But unfortunately I can't, you produce amazing cards and I love coming onto your blog each day so I can see what you produce! Thanks again for sharing, I love this colour scheme!
classy ,colours and design are lovely
Morning Sue, nice card very simular to the one that you featured on Saturtday. All the best Zerena x
I agree with you about smaller patterns. I also find it difficult to use some papers! I love the PVA dots around the card.
Classy Card from a classy lady - really stunning card Sue - extremely versatile!
Sarah
Super card Sue. Very classy and love the colour combo and papers.

Gorgeos, very elegant.
Great card love the background paper you've used.

Love the card.
xx
Absolutely gorgeous work here again Sue. I love the colors oo and agree, it´ll be just perfect for any occation and person, which is soo great sometimes to have in your stash, as we never know, what we might need suddenly. I love the way you used the buckles and the ribbon on it.
I also totally agree about what you say about the patterns on the papers. I´ve also notised, that many of them, no matter how beautiful they are, looks way too big on a card, when you get to it, which is such a shame, so maybe we should all make a shout out to the manufacurer to think about this, when they design their new papers???
have a wonderful day everyone and lots of crafty fun, I hope.
This is an absolute stunner Sue.
And I agree about the smaller patterns. Larger patterns have their place, but often they're too overpowering for what you're trying to achieve. After all, they're 'background' papers on the whole.
Really do love this card.
xx
Morning Sue, another lovely card. I love the idea with the ribbon. As I have the buckle dies, I will be trying this idea later today. Many thanks for the inspiration
Chris
G'day Sue, I've not used that greeting before....love the card very dramatic. Hope all is well in your world. Have a nice day...Mabex
Good morning Queen of spellbinders
I just love the card its fantastic.
the colours are great.
Sue you are one talented lady.
joyce.e
Lovely card, like the colours
She x
Good morning Sue I agree about the papers, I have some beautiful papers but the pattern is much too large to use on cards. Todays card is lovely and suitable for many occasions, I am waiting for the delivery of a few sets of dies and the buckle dies is one of them. hugs x
This is beautiful, so elegant.
Good Morning Sue
I really like this type of background paper, and yes I agree about smaller designs they all seem to be for scrapbooks.
love Marg
Good morning Sue. Perhaps we should do this appreciation with some of out English language emphasis so here's what I think !!!!!!!!!!
and of course beautiful and elegant. Have a good day Sue!
Hi Sue I love this card the colours are just perfect . I don't know how you do it I will definetly try to copy this.
Take care
This is such a useful card to make and have ready for those occasions when you just need to have a card to hand for an unexoected occasion. Gues what I will be making later!
Love the colours amd I have just bought the gold and black cosmic shimmer so perfect timing
LOVELY CARD SUE
Morning sue and what a lovely card this is. It would really make a good mans card which I tend to struggle with to be honest.
Thanks again for more inspiration. I have all the new dies now (yippeeee) and I also got the other floral blossoms and itty bits flowers. Look forward to seeing you demo them son. I Micro beaded the itty bitty flowers on a wedding card and they looked just amazing.
Luv n hugs
Jayne xx
Hi Sue, I so love this one and will be stealing the idea, just wish I could get my dots around the border as evenly spaced and sized as you do. Now that you've designed dies for Spellbinders perhaps you could turn your talents to paper designing (and after that, inventing more hours in the day!!).
This card looks really classic, i agree could be used for most occasions.
Morning Sue,I so wish I had your brain as never in a month of Sundays would I have thought of mounting a smaller buckle on a larger one as you have done that was sheer genius, and something I will experiment with as I have the buckles set, like you I am not a fan of large patterns on backing papers, but the backing pages you have used go together really well, so as usual you have produced a well balanced card which could be used for men or women which is great! I don't know how you manage to come up with such wonderful cards time after time after time.
love this well done sue x x
I think a Gold and Black card is just so classy Sue. I like this one very much and the layout is lovely and could easily be used with different colours and dies. Fantastic. Have a lovely Day. Hugs Rita xxxx
A very regal looking card - the papers are amazing, wish we could get them here easily.
love lilygee xxx
PS To Lynn M who has had a problem with her Raspberry Plate (like myself) just get your base plate, your embossing mat and your embossing plate to make a sandwich, then run them through the back slot of the GC making sure you knock the white tray as you go - the white tray will start to pop out from the front - hope you spot my message and this works for you - my machine works much better without the tray as well!
Hi Sue yes ,i like the background papers ,will have to get some buckle dies ,next on my wish list im thinking. Thank you Elaine H X
Good Morning Sue and Everyone. Dynamic is the word that came to mind. So very different from the calm all white cards which I love. I would love to have half of your imagination Sue.
Morning Sue, another fabulous card for any occasion. I too like small patterns,
Hugs Sue M xx
oh my word I absolutley love it, the colours the ribbon, just everything.
Good morning Sue, a really elegant card, could be used for a male as well, which is a bonus. LOVE it. Lol Ann
Morning Sue,

Good morning Sue. Beautiful card and a good way to use up some odd bits in my paper stash. I love the colours too- it would suit many different occasions. When are you on tv next, and are you going to do a dvd on techniques with the ribbon flowers, piercing and of course spellbinders?
Thanks, have a good day.
Hi Sue
What a lovely card. Love everything about it. You are so talented.
Grimsby Chris
Hi Sue...bet you are going to stock up on scrummy papers at Hobby lobby before you leave!!! I so miss my extra suitcase full of goodies from my visits to the states..Michaels, joannes oh did I enjoy. Love the card today a very Man feel to it take care Margaret
I don't think it's too formal, I think it is really elegant. Wonderful versatile card that I can see coming in useful for all sorts of occasions.
stunning card!!!!
Great colours and design. Just lovely. Anne x
Hi Sue, love this card. Yet another for my inspiration folder! I agree - more small patterned paper please.
Frances
Hi Sue,
fabbbbbbbb card as usual. Just love the papers. This card is a very classy card. What we expect from you. Thank you for sharing all your lovely designs with us.
Lots of crafty love. Jenny L.
Morning Sue, I agree with you re paper pattern sizes. I think they aim them at scrapbooking rather than cards. Surely if the patterns were smaller, they would then sell them to both hobbies. This card is a stunner but still applicable for both sexes. I particularly love the colours and the mixed pattern backgrounds. Hugs, Carol S.xx
Just gorgeous Sue!x
I totally agree about smaller patterns for cards, very often I love a paper but it's pattern is way too large for a card. :)
Hi Sue,
Another very beautiful card, keep it up.
Janet
Very elegant card. Lovely.
So elegant!
hi sue, lovely card, and I agree with you about the papers, I am always looking for small patterns too, although the bigger patterns are pretty you lose that on a small piece of paper.Love the way you have used the ribbon and buckle, a card for any occasion.
love jan x
Another gorgeous card Sue, love the intricate-ness of it, super elegant. Zo xx
Hi Sue, This is one of my all time favourite cards. I have noticed that many of my favourites use these backing papers. I love the regal look. I agree on the need for more smaller patterned papers. Though I would settle for smaller patterned masks to make my own. Unfortunatly I can't see myself using the greeting. I think it's too sentimental / gushing rather than too formal for me. With Love & Light Theresa. H
Hi Sue I really dont know how you do it. I have been following your blog for about a month now and you have convinced me that I really need a grand calibur {I was unsure as I possess a cricut}so I now posses the calibur :D
I will continue to check your blogg as your designs/ideas are fab and inspirational..and I must confess I will be pinching some of your ideas/styles
thank you

Very nicely done
I love the colors and design
Hi Sue,
Just lovely and could be adapted in so many colour ways for different occassions.

Edna x
Great card Sue, black and gold a lovely combination combined.
Morning Sue,
yes I agree smaller patterns are more user friendly.
Lovely card, works well for all occasions.
Beanx
Hi Sue
your not going to believe this. I have have just made a black and gold card and i left the sentiment off as didn't know what i would use the card for. So strange.lol,
But i love the paper and think i have got the way to use them. Always put plain paper between them to mix them. But u haven't done this and looks great. Like the boarder as looks like it stitches them together. I am really into the buckles on ribbon. Smashing. Yes grand card looks very rich. (Wish we were). Top of the class again.
Born again spellbinder

So much so that I searched the internet and found the embossing folders and the stamps which I'll get by next week!!!

Have a great day and also to all Sue Wilson followers.

This card is so elegant. I like the combination of black and cream. It looks so great!
Hugs, Uta
Good morning Sue. I agree small print papers are best for cards, I have some lovely papers but the pattern is too big for a card. We will all have to shout at the manufactures. Love this card, the colours are to die for. Would never have thought of layering the buckle up. Thank you for sharing.
Hugs June x
Wow, lovely creation! The DP is gorgeous. I have the same problem with prints, sometimes they are so big that they wouldn't come across well on a car. Hugs, Hanneke
Morning Sue, stunning card again and I dont think its too formal, very versatile. Love the papers and colours. I am off to have a play going to try In love with all white. Have a good day, Hugs Fiona P xxx
Hi Sue, love this card, colours are gorgeous and I would love you to search out some backing papers for us.
Chris x
soo pretty Sue - very stylish - I love the colourway xx
Love this card! Julia xxx
Hi sue
love your card, I agree with you that the pattern's are sometime's too big for card-making. Of course there are some manufacturers who do 6x6 &8x8 paper pads, the downside to that is you can't just buy the one sheet lol.
hugs
Sandra (craftynan)
Lovely card again Sue. When I visit my friend in America I love to visit Hobby Lobby, Michaels, JoAnn etc.
keep those designs coming.

Very nice elegant card. Thank you.
I don't think it is too formal at all. The colours are perfect for a male card, I think.
Morning Sue, I agree with you that sometimes the patterns are just too large. I love the colour combination on this one.

Love, love, love it!! Just wish I had time to use the ideas you give us. Had you thought about designing a range of papers yourself Sue? You did a stunning job with the Spellbinders dies so I am sure designing some papers would be just as rewarding for you and a bonus for us!!! Take care

Hi Sue love the card today,a good all round card. x
Gorgeous as always, I'd read this this mornin but forgot to comment, I just love your style as each make is perfect x
This is a beautiful card. i think your papers are just fantastic, such a shame we don,t have access to them
Hi Sue, This is a very classy card, love the black and gold together. Haven't bought the Splendid Circles yet as I already have several other circles sets - but I can feel myself warming to them, there's lots going on in them yet they're not too feminine to use on a man's card - a very useful set. Speaking of useful sets - how about the Sue Wilson Papers My Style CD rom, a printable collection of background paper designs. With your great sense of style and eye for colour it would be a guaranteed winner! (Just put it on your to do list!! lol) Sue x PS Don't forget the Houndstooth!!
Hi Sue
I love the greeting, it could be used for so may occassions. Beautiful card, the colours are rich
Sue H. xxx
Hi Sue
What a beautiful sophisticated card I love it

Love this card, gold and black are so classy!
good card for lots of different accasions loving the colours can be used for a man or lady
I love this color combo. I don't have all the dies you use, but the design is versatile enough to find suitable substitutes. I like the smaller patterns on paper, too, but often make due with bits from larger patterned pieces. Lovely card, indeed.
ooohh. Love this Sue. Colours, style everything. Keep 'em coming. Thanks

Great multi occasion card Sue and I think it would make an excellent man card, I know its got ribbon on (so has girly elements), but it still works as a man card for me, thank you Helen O xxx
Just fabulous Sue hope you are enjoying yourself cant wait to have you back on C&C xxx
Hi Sue,
These rich black and creamy brown papers you have are fabulous, as some of the girls have said they are opulant and I think very dramatic indeed.
This is definitely the card to send when you want to make a big statement. It is bold, opulant (as agreed), dramatic and even a little Gothic. Don't laugh now girls but this is the sort of card my 'bad' side likes. I'm a 'girlie, girl' normally but now and again (like almost every other woman out there) I like the theatrical, powerful and thrilling.
It's like the Greek god in the historical novel, slow and seductive, patiently charming and alluring, waiting for the right time to .....!! Ok that's enough of that..ROFL!!!
Wow Sue, inspiring and emotive. Your cards surely are the best. Ha,ha,ha.
With your permission Sue, I would like to answer Vie question.
Vie, I buy my base pins from different places. I started first with cheap long dressmakers pins and chopped the heads off the ones I didn't like, then I moved on to specialist longer pins from the web. If Sue wouldn't mind, you can email her for my email address and I will give you the details of the best glues etc also. I have been doing this a while now and have learned all the pitfalls etc so I may be able to get you started. I will warn you it is addictive when you get into it. Funny enough I have just finished a new batch and posted some today to our lovely Sue. I am going to try to put a picture of some of the new ones on my Pinterest page now, just look for pinterest.com/lindyloo27/
Sue I really hope you like the new pins they are much, much fancier than the originals and I have included a few different colours for you too.
Thank you Sue, I do love your blog so much. You are a special lady and so talented and your followers are such nice people.
Take care and enjoy your last week in USA. Hugs Linda
Hmmm, may have to have a trip to Hobby Lobby! Love this card and that paper is yummy. Thanks for sharing it!!

Hi Sue,yet again a fanastic card.xx
