Hope Your Birthday Is A Hoot

Hi bloggers!  It is time for the Moonlit Owl to make an appearance!  I started by cutting two circular apertures in a piece of coconut white card.  I used the Double Stitched Circles to put thin circular frames around the apertures.  I cut the moon and lightly inked it with Tumbled Glass ink, then cut the flying owl out of tan card and used Vintage Photo ink around the edges and glued them both in the upper corner.  I cut several pieces of the woody foliage from the Wise Old Owl set out of tan card.  I used Peeled Paint ink on all the leaves. I cut the tree stump from the Moonlit Owl set out of tan card and inked it with Vintage Photo.  I used the tree stump in the lower frame with a piece of the foliage and then the remaining leafy branches were used in the upper frame.  I cut the sentiment in tan card twice and stacked them, then glued them into the lower corner.  The card was completed with white mats and layers.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/4"  x  8 1/2" in size.  All for now. Sue x

  21. Morning Sue, what a great idea to have the branches coming out of the apertures, I can think of lots of other ideas for this sort of technique like including flowers or birds sitting on the branches. Thanks for setting off my creative ideas with this lovely card.

  30. Hi Sue,
I do like your owl dies and have started using the 'large owl ' from the other set to make cards for the 'twitchers' in our family. I think that I will use the aperture idea from this card: with your permission.

  32. You achieved great detail on this birthday card with the owl set telling a story. Wonderful. When I lived in Texas, there was an owl that liked our yard and visited often for those palmeto bugs that were Texas sized. It was amazing to watch this bird and I was pleased he was feasting on those BIG bugs. This large sized owl flew without making a sound. Awesome.

  38. Hi Sue, I love this card. The owl is beautiful in flight and I love the way you have the foliage spilling out from the apertures and onto the very realistic looking tree stump.

Suzette - how lucky were you to see one of these majestic birds in your back yard. Apart from captive ones that I have seen at a falconry centre the closest I have come is hearing the occasional hoot as they fly over neighbouring farmland.
