Birthday Wishes

Hi crafters!  Today's simple make started with the letterpressing technique for the background.  I inked the Art Deco Shells embossing folder with Antique Linen Distress Oxide and used a piece of milk card in the folder.  I ran it through the die cutting machine and it transferred the ink to the floor of the embossing folder pattern.  I matted it with black.  Next I stamped the STDF called Spring Nest and cut it out with the matching Sofia die.  I used Distress Markers to colour the image.   I stamped it again and cut out the bird and birds nest by hand.  I coloured them and mounted them on foam over the original stamped image.  I stamped my sentiment and cut it out with the Stitched Flags and put the end through the stamped image frame.  I added the entire piece onto another piece of milk card that I glittered around the edge.  Milk and black  mats and layers were used to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7 1/2" x  7 1/2" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  5. Morning Sue. I'm a crafting chicken, letterpressing is a technique I tried many years ago when I didn't 'get' positive/negative sides of the folders and it went pear shaped, 7 years after binning my first attempt I've not tried it since lol but I love to see it done, maybe 7 years is long enough to shy away from this easiest of craft techniques and find my backbone and try again lol. If it was my birthday and I received a card like this, I'd have a real happy birthday - who wouldn't ? To anyone having a birthday today, enjoy ☺
Thanks for today's lovely inspiration Sue xxx

  6. Hello Sue

A lovely card and I like the Distress Oxide letterpress result. Like Steph I too tried it years ago without success (my fault I am sure) I have always struggled to get good coverage but I shall try with the oxides as they seem creamier and have a more dense colour. But you have got it perfect.

  13. Hi Sue
A pretty card. Love the letter pressed background, my very first thought was wallpaper (would make a great background for a room, maybe a Christmas scene around the tree or fireplace). Lovely stamped image.

  17. Just coloring the bird and nest would have been enough, stamped on a card, but you have given a 3D effect by making and coloring an extra bird and nest, which you layered for dimension, plus a letterpressed embossed background, and a glittered frame around everything. That's going the extra mile!

All the best to all of you.

  19. Hello Sue, a lovely card using letterpress technique. I like others have not really tried letterpress very often so it's a good reminder to give it another go. It really is so useful when you remind us of old dies or methods. Love the bird and next. Xx

  33. Hi Sue,

Very pretty birthday card this morning - I love that Art Deco Shells folder and letterpressing highlights all the details nicely....cutting out that birdie and the nest gives the whole some added dimension...

Steph - if you tried letterpressing using ordinary water-based ink pads then no wonder you were disappointed - if you try again using either Distress Oxides or any pigment-based inkpad then I think you'll like the result much better - and the coverage doesn't have to be absolutely perfect, if you look at Sue's piccies in close-up you'll see what I mean, but it looks good anyway...so have a go!
