Hi bloggers! I have an in and out buckle card with an up and down background for you! I started by cutting the Diamond Squares Background out of both white and aqua card. I backed them both with white card and then cut them into strips. I added foam backing to the three aqua strips and alternated with white ones that I attached without foam. Next I cut three of the circular die from the Ivy Garden Background die set; two in white and one in aqua. I cut a long strip of white card and added forked ends to both with my scissors, then used it to weave the three circular dies together. I added mounting foam across the back and attached it to the background. I cut the smaller inner circle as a base for my Thank You Mini Expression sentiment, which I cut out of aqua card. I added 5mm white flat back pearls to either side of the strip and completed the card with white and aqua mats. The finished dimensions are 72 x 8 3/4" in size. All for now, Sue x

ReplyDeleteGood morning Sue this is a stunning thank you card I just love the design. The dies and the colours are gorgeous. Have a great day today. Take care. Hugs Jakie
ReplyDeleteWow! Buckle cards never did anything for me, but THIS IS FABULOUS!!! This isn't a buckle card, this is weaving strips and circles. How clever to cut a background out of two colors, cut them in strips and raise one color of strip and leave the other color recessed. That looks almost woven by itself. Then to run the long strip through the circles gives the illusion that the background strips are also woven in.
ReplyDeleteI love that long strip, so elegant with flag tails on both ends, and pearls accentuating the length.
Now you've got us looking at our die sets for shapes we can weave. You've also got me admiring how your contrasts look so balanced, or inevitable, rather than just two things that don't belong together. I'm trying to figure out the "rules," but maybe it's like being able to carry a tune. Either you can or you can't, and no one can teach you if you're tone deaf. I'm just glad I can appreciate people who can do it, especially because you're generous to share and let us copy what you've tested and proven. I'm also thinking maybe some embossing folders could produce backgrounds that can be cut into strips. I wonder if you could do the weaving illusion with sunburst rays rather than vertical strips. Maybe that's too trippy.
Anyway, buckle card. Now I get it. Wow. It only took a masterpiece to make me a believer.
So, today they're giving away Slurpees at 7 Eleven stores in the U.S. Do you know why? It's similar to why people eat pie on March 14.
Has anyone figured out how Sue made a frame 15 squares wide but only 13 squares deep in yesterday's Thanks card? I don't see a seam being hidden by foliage. Could she have cut a 15 square frame and a 13-square frame and used the sides of one and the floor and ceiling of the other, then cut Lexi through both? I still don't see any seams.
Best to Sue and all the Wilsonettes.
Love,
Donita

Hello Sue,
ReplyDeleteAlways love your buckle cards, they're such an interesting concept and this one uses some of my favourite dies too - the Ivy Garden circle looks fabulous cut in aqua showing how useful it is all year round and not just for the festive season...and all that dimensional layering sets is apart from anything you'd find in a card shop, so well worth the extra time taken for us crafters to put this together and wow the recipient...

Hi Sue,
ReplyDeleteI don't know what I love more about this card the design or the colors? Maybe both equally.Love this color scheme;very fresh looking. Seeing the circular die from the Ivy Garden Background die set used in this way I am wondering what dies that I have I can use to create a buckle card ...I already have some ideas thanks to this tutorial.
Donita - A partial die cutting technique will do the trick; to create a rectangular out of a square.
Hugs from Toronto to you all and special hugs to all missing friends.
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only across the pond Wilsonette
