Checkerboard Barbecue Card

Hi bloggers!  Need a fun background to use?  Today's video shows you one of my favourite (and really easy) ways to create this checkerboard background.  It's just perfect for a barbecue card too!

The finished dimensions are 6 3/4" x  8 1/4" in size.  All for now, Sue x

  23. Morning Sue from a lovelyvwarm morning here in S.A.. You couldn't have chosen a better card today as we are going to a barbecue this afternoon. I have all of these dies and all of the male members of our family love the cards which I have made for them. Even my 11 year old great nephew was impressed. He once asked me why I always had to make my cards instead of buying them. He obviously thinks that money is a big problem. Either that, or my cards look a mess!! lol
Take care everyone. Hugs xx Pauline now in S.A..

Now I have to confess to having a chuckle this morning as I thought the apron had a smiley face on it, knots as eyes and pocket as mouth, then I put my glasses on properly! It's still a great card and made me smile though. Love the checkerboard background, it really sets the scene for a bbq doesn't it. It's lovely hearing the comments from around the globe of bbqs and sunny weather while we shiver in the uk, we have spring to look forward to and summer ahead, always a good thought.

  52. Hi Sue and everyone

A bright fun card today. I am a little perplexed as I have been commenting but just noticed that my comments have disappeared. I will keep it short then today and not mention anyone as I wonder if my ‘reassurances’ to certain people have not been allowed. I have seen that my comments had published as I had a time showing. Think my last one was about 2am this morning. However, it has vanished today.

  66. Good morning Ladies,
This card is so cute AND (to Myra) my son has a February birthday and this is the card I am making for him. I have a picture of him barbecuing in snowy Montana a couple of months ago. Yes, he is crazy but he loves his grill.
Pauline, I had a laugh over your nephew's comments....sure have saved a lot of money making my own cards!
Helen, be sure you are on the web page and not Blogger (or the app). That helps me as I was frustrated by the dropped posts awhile back. Don't think it has anything to do with your comments.
Can't wait to see the new release. I can't imagine how Sue can top her previous releases. She is amazing.
We may have snow/ice tomorrow (in SC that is usually not much). I do not drive on it however so may be missing my stamping group on Thursday but Julia will be on Hochanda so not a bad deal.
Please, if anyone knows how Elaine is, let us know.

  88. Dear Sue,

Thanks for the checkerboard tutorial. You make it look so easy. Getting the strips and crosscuts exactly straight and square might not be so easy. But if it works the results are worth the effort. I think the sentiment would also look nice on the apron.

This card will be perfect for my Dad, because he used to work for Ralston Purina, which had a red and white checkerboard logo. When we were on car trips, whoever saw that logo, usually on the town's feed store, would say, "I saw it first!" before anybody else could.

Violette's, the stamp store in Lakeland, Florida, had some of your sets, I was pleased to see. I did some damage there because Dad asked me to make Valentines for him to send, and I hadn't brought any supplies for that. While Dad was wasting time as I shopped, he explored Lakeland, then took me to see what he found. Old trees dripping with Spanish moss. Stately Southern houses. And they don't call it Lakeland for nothing. On a pond near the town center we saw pelicans lined up on little walls overlooking the water. Swans swam in pairs, and we got close-up looks at black swans and black-necked swans, as well as ibis and ducks and a heron, who crowded a woman feeding them bread. It was such a nice day, sunny and 70.

Had to preorder some of your January release before they sold out.

I sure hope Pam's son had the right information.

I'll try, Carmen, to see if Elaine will supply an update.

Great to see you back, Yvonne. Hope you continue to improve.

Crewe Trish, you are such a dear.

    Love,
    Donita

    Super card Sue.
I have a Daughter-in-law in Canada who is known as Queen of the grill and I would love to make a card like this for her. I think I made a diary error as my day out at Inspirations and my first look at my little girl baby is TODAY. I am all dressed and ready to go and can't wait to be looking at the Creative Expressions row in the store. My daughter will probably insist that I take my wheelchair which is a bit of a hinderance but OH I am so looking forward to the day.
    All for now.
