Home Sweet Home

Hi there my crafty friends!  A little bit different with a 3D window box card for you.  I started with a piece of mocha card and wanted to create a background that looked like an exterior wall.  I first embossed it with the Falling Snow embossing folder to give it a texture that sort of looked like stucco (that may be an American word, not sure what the English equivalent would be), then I embossed it with our Stone mask to give it a further brick sort of appearance.  I added some Vintage photo distress ink to it around the edges and lightly across the top of the "stucco" too.  I cut the window box out of taupe card and lightly inked it with Antique Linen and folded it on the scored lines.  I cut the window and shutters too out of taupe card and I added a valance of a deep peach colour from my stash.  I cut the flowers for the window box out of green card, then cut them again out of the flower colours and cut and glued them on to the green ones and added them to the window box.  I cut two of the topiaries and nipped them off the top and kept the planter part of it.  I cut several Olive Branches and added them to each of the pots and attached them on either side of the window.  I stamped the sentiment and cut it out and added it in the centre of the potted plants.  A couple of small butterflies were added around the background as accents.  The final mats and layers were added to complete the card.  The finished dimensions are 7" x 7 1/4" in size.

There are still about four unclaimed winning dies!  Please scroll down to the post on the 28th and check the list to see if your name is among them!  All for now, Sue x

  1. Gorgeous Sue, really like this card. So pretty.
Karen, hope your hubby is recovering well. Your die win will be a good luck charm, enjoy playing when you can.
Elaine, I so happy that your eye is recovering well, your mood has lightened considerably, I'm pleased to say, you have carried such a heavy burden fir a year now but you have been such a trooper I'm proud of you. Take care, my friend.
Rosemary, it's going to get crowded in that scanner on Saturday, we will all be there with you, holding your hand.
Carmen, hope your weekend celebrations go well. Happy belated birthday to the Kid, so young to suffer the illness he has been through, you have been an amazing support when his family is so far away. Enjoy time with your family.
My physio appointment went well. She took full history, did all the checks, my blood pressure was very high, she took it 3 times and it kept going up but I will check that with GP. Got some breathing exercises and see her again in 3 weeks. See Respiratory Clinic next week do may get more info then. They were moving all the cabinets again yesterday so I had to move down to next floor.... Fir my own sake of course they said.......
Daily hugs to all, poorly and missing friends in our hearts.

  17. Yes kitty we call it pebble dash here ☺

Morning dearest Sue. You have no idea how exciting it is to have you back on our screens, it's been far too long, but us ladies 'of a certain age' need to take regular rests to regain our strength lol what's that I hear you say "you wish" ? Naaa, firstly you don't look ANYWHERE near, and secondly we know that rest is something your over active brain doesn't understand lol !
So onto your over active brain again, we thank the heavens that you have such a wonderful brain to inspire us with such gorgeous samples as this. You always make these so welcoming, we either want to open the door for a peep or cheekily open the shutters and windows to see the decor lol this is no exception, the curb appeal is so pretty, is it for sale or rent by any chance lol. Now into the confession box, I was bought this, another removed from the list last December but I've cut it out in white gloss meaning to do something with it but I've got no further and now I've seen this pretty lovely sample I feel so guilty, I really really must make a card with this collection, I just hope I can do it justice and make something as beautiful as this and other pretty samples I've seen on your Facebook groups that are full of people that love and admire you.
Hope you have a good Friday that at first light I thought it was Saturday !!! Age !
Sending love and hugs your way xx

  21. Morning Sue and all Wilsonettes, yes I love it, can just smell the flowers and hear the birds singing in the background, such a beautiful creation. I like Stephanie have the dies and will now use them as you have given me the inspiration, thank you.

Pam I reiterate all you have said above, we have some wonderful friends on this blog, I might not always mention them by name but you all know who you are and you are in my thoughts constantly. Pleased that the physio appointment went well, high blood pressure not so good, lets hope it has settled by the time you see your GP, take care of that. Your work still have got no idea have they about the disruption and stress they are causing to you do they, ostrich in the sand springs to mind.

I am off to a craft workshop all day tomorrow so will miss some of your shows Sue on Hochanda, but I will be watching them on catch up - eagerly I might add, it will be the highlight of my weekend.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  37. Hi Sue
What a gorgeous card today, I really love the effect the double embossed wall gives to showcase the window box with all the pretty flowers. Perfect for a new home card. Yes as others have said we have pebbledash here ( I remember trying to prise a particularly pretty pebble off of my great aunts wall when I was a child, I never managed.) or rendering which is then painted, usually in pastel colours. We all know what you mean by stucco though. Thank you for sharing.

  56. Dear Sue and Some of You Who Are New and The Usual Crew,

This would be good if we had a sentiment stamp that said: Whenever God closes a door, he opens a window, which helps with the hot flashes.

Probably wouldn't fit between the planters.

Why does it take a genius like you to think of greenery other than topiary in the pots?

This might not have to be a new home card. Could be a hello card or miss you or thinking of you.

In other news, my festive dies arrived today from Ontario! Got Noelle and her sister, the checkerboard poinsettia, the snowflake/icicle/star edger and the pine cones and needles. Also Comfort and Joy. Could we just skip the next launch so our bank accounts can catch up?

    Wait! No skipping!

Rosemary Powell, maybe you could listen closely to the machine noise and try to hear our voices all whispering love and encouragement and names of die sets in your ear.

Pam if you can make it through Friday, maybe the dust will have a chance to settle over the weekend.

Maybe The Kid and Andrew are both responding to the healing effects of fun!

We can say we do this for our health. Because we do!

    Love,
    Donita

I have all of the window/door/shutter/accessories dies and matching stamps, I love using them (that cat gets in everywhere lol) and have made quite a few variations but none so beautiful as this one. Stucco as others have said is mostly known in the UK as pebble dash but here in Scotland it is also called harling.

Carmen - your June birthday party sounds a great celbration, so pleased for the Kid. Enjoy your Canada Day week-end with your family.
Pam - again? Do you work for furniture removers? It sounds crazy. Hope your BP goes down.

  87. Good afternoon Sue and all the lovely Wilsonettes,
Well i am so chuffed to bits to see so many of my beautiful Wilsonettes names that i have known for so long win such a prized trophy from our wonderful Sue, without whom this wouldn't all be possible. Especially for me though my lovely friends Myra and Lorraine(don't tease PP too much Lorraine), but also June, Bejay, Hazel, Roasemary, Patricia, Chris, Jan, Carmen to name but a few. To all our newbies that also won i am highly delighted that you have also won a prize and that they are travelling so very far and wide this collection, now we have friends all over this great world who will know just how good it is to be apart of our happy wee club. WELL DONE EVERYONE, SENDING LOVE AND HUGS WITH THOSE GOOD WISHES.
I do like this new home card Sue especially with the brick wall of the house looking so real and what would a house be without a window box of some kind. A lovely card that is sometimes forgotten about in todays new age where everything is done by text or email. Thank you flower for bringing us our different daily diet of wonder and excitement.
I had ordered a few of the new release that came on Wednesday but i haven't had enough time to play with them yet. At this moment i am typing up this with Harry down for a sleep and trying to make up tags for a washing line with baby clothes for one of the bairns from the village, her oldest niece is expecting and due in 4 weeks time, just 5 weeks after she has been made a big sister to finally a baby brother. Since she knows she is having a girl, her wee brother will be an uncle at 5 weeks old. Her dad has just got used to being made a father for the 4th time and now he is going to be a grandfather as well, i wonder what the 3rd thing will be?
Well i will leave everyone with hugs where ever you are,
    love and crafty hugs

  99. Good evening lovely Sue and her crafty crew!

What a charming card created with some of my favourite 3D dies....i do have the pleasure of owning these beautiful dies but havent, as yet, used them, in saying that, its only because ive lost my mojo not because there isnt a million and one things that can be created with them.
The double embossed background effect is ingenious and so effective, i will really need to get that brickwork mask. The cute little window box finishes off the card beautifully, the flowers are adorable as are the shutters and pink curtain. I'm sure that i could find plenty of reasons other than a new home card to send this little beauty, thanks Suexxx
Sincere apologies for my oh so rude absence yesterday but i was totally wiped out by being the hostess with the mostest....i had forgotten just how demanding men can be....hence my single status:-)....you have to be at their beck and call 24/7 otherwise there are sulks and arguments. Uncle B has lived with his son and daughter in law for a few years and is used to having everything done for him, and at 81 i guess that's allowed but now he has decided he wants his own space again and is in the process of moving into his own flat....he's going to have a huge shock to the system doing things for himself because that's why he moved in with my cousin in the first place! I'm not sure he realises what he is taking on because he's had a life of being catered to by my Aunt and then his DIL, he is excited about it though so i hope all goes well. He departed this morning looking forward to a few more whiskeys on the journey home no doubt:-), and sense of calm has descended as Darcey regains her place on the sofa and Brodie gets his bed back!
As befits my Princess status...thanks Carmen:-)....i spent the afternoon having my nails sculpted and my hair blow dried, must maintain a certain standard for my public!:-). Think I'll have a quiet weekend enjoying Sues shows and attempt to recharge my batteries.
Pam, what on earth are they playing at in your office? Why do they keep moving furniture? I hope that your chest isnt affected this time and please be careful with that high blood pressure because it can be so dangerous if left. 103. Hello Sue,
I'm rather late today as it's Friday! Fridays are chaotic in this household!
Sue I really love the effect you have got on the wall! It may be stucco ,which I recognised or, pebble dash! Either way it's very effective!
I have this Die set and planned to use it more at Christmas but I can see I am missing a trick or two! Have used the flowers in a couple of Shadow Box Die cards! So I do think outside the box! Occasionally! Lol!
I'm sorry I haven't read the posts today! I know, I know, it's very wrong! However - as Laine is just above me I know her Uncle has gone back to Yorkshire - Saba calls it God's own County! Ok - fine - Scotland though is God's own Country ! !!' We can't be held responsible for the Politicians thought they dontake liberties! Lol!
Love Myra, Friend of Maureen! Oops I've lost the brackets! Xxx

  104. Hello Sue,
Love this card and the faux stucco is brilliant. I would have said stucco rather than pebble dash but it looks good whatever you call it.
I might not be able to comment for the next two weeks, we are sailing around the Croatian islands and whilst most of the bigger islands have wifi in their restaurants I don't want to appear rude by being on my iPad whilst dining. I will try and get in when I can though. I'm gutted to be missing your shows tomorrow, nearly cancelled my holiday!

Pam glad your appointment went well despite your Bp. Good luck next week at the clinic.
Elaine safe journey home for Andrew tomorrow, shame about the carp but the main thing is he's felt well, had a fantastic time and has made you happy, that's worth its weight in gold. Good luck to John tomorrow.
Donita loved your sentiment! Didn't you do well with your dies, enjoy.
Carmen enjoy your long weekend with your family.
Myra I'm not arguing with you but Yorkshire has first claim! Listen to the words of Jerusalem.
Laine, at last I am going to get to play with my rope, can't wait to tie some knots on board.
Last but not least, Rosemary there will be a big cloud of love and support all around you tomorrow, big hugs.
Love and hugs for all, be good.
    Saba xxxx

  111. Hi Sue,

Did a bird tell you that I have to make a new home card for a friend? Probably ... so thank you for the inspiration. It is a lovely card and looks easy to make it ... we’ll see. Love your idea to emboss twice the background! Oh....the ideas are flowing now, thanks to you.

Rosemary P. – Hope your MRI will go smoothly.
Elaine – Safe journey home for Andrew.
Pam – Brilliant idea: move the cabinets again! Are they doing this on purpose? It might be a message for you and other complainers, they won’t stop moving the furniture till you quit. You never know what is in other people mind. Better not :)
Marion, Saba – Enjoy your vacation!
Donita – That is a lovely sentiment! Enjoy your new toys! Did you order them from Ecstasy Craft or from a different craft store?
Myra – Where is your friend Maureen?

Dear friends, since so many of you wished me to have a good long weekend, I promise do to my best.

Hugs to you all and have a good weekend,
Still a newbie to Craft / not longer the newest, or the only Canadian Wilsonette

  113. A lovely card again Sue. Wish my sight was just a little bit better although I am blessed to be able to see at all.
Happy Canada Day to CCM and any other Canadians on here. I have dual nationality and spent 22 years in Ontario and loved it. I returned to the UK after I was widowed and my sight got worse.
